//------------------------------// // What do you mean, Spike? We don't look similar at all! // Story: Why Do Twilight & Moondancer Look Similar? (We Do?!) // by Petalled //------------------------------// ''Twilight, why do you and Moondancer look the same?'' A violet alicorn was sitting comfortably on the couch as a purple dragon with green polished scales had entered into the living room with a feather duster as a question was slipped through his lips. Her ears perked up and faced Spike immediately as she slammed the book shut. Out of the blue, Spike suddenly had asked her this question. Out of all of the things he could ask her, it had to be this one. ''Why, whatever do you mean, Spike?'' Twilight asked, slightly puzzled. ''We don't look the same at all.'' Spike huffed. ''Then how do you explain the same manestyle and you guys' obsession with books.'' This had got out a chortle from the violet alicorn, still sitting on the couch. However, she hopped off to place a hoof on his back to pat it. ''Oh, Spike.'' She smiled as she looked down at him. ''Just because we love books doesn't mean we look-huh.'' Spike raised an eyebrow with his arms crossed against his chest, hoping she had already noticed his point. There was a moment of silence between him and the violet alicorn until Spike waved a claw over her purple eyes to try and get her attention. ''Twilight? Twilight...'' Twilight was staring into space, functioning her brain properly to try and see clearly through his point. She rubbed her chin as she wondered about all of the things they would be the closest in their old friend group. They both had liked studying, less friendship, and had the same manestyle. That's what Twilight was mostly thinking about that Spike had pointed out. ''Um, Twilight? Are you okay? Equestria to Twilight? Hello, hello?'' Twilight shook her head out of her thinking trance and turned back to see the dragon, standing below her. ''I...am starting to see your point, Spike.'' Spike's eyes stared into space at first until it flattened. ''Really? You believe me?'' Twilight nodded meekly. ''I admit that I had never paid attention to any of my friends but...'' ''You paid attention to Moondancer sometimes though.'' Twilight arched an eyebrow. ''Ahem. You two both liked books and studying. That's not one but two things in common and you paid attention to her more than Minuette, Twinkle Shine, Lemon Hearts, Lyra Heartstrings...'' ''Alright, alright!'' Spike defensively put up his hands as Twilight began soothing out her voice. ''What I was saying was...who was the first one to have my...uh, this manestyle first?'' Spike rolled his eyes. ''Obviously you.'' An eyebrow was raised on her face. ''How do you know that?'' ''Duh! I just had this weird tingle that she was more likely to be obsessed with you since you were Princess Celestia's most faithful student. So she might have probably got your manestyle in order to be like you.'' Twilight was about to protest further before refraining. She stared at the book that she had left on the couch. ''But we shouldn't be too quick to judge, Spike. Maybe she didn't mean to copy and I don't think anypony would be obsessed with me. What had got you that idea?'' ''Are you kidding? I could always see a look in her eyes whenever you two were talking with each other or you were busy having your eyes inside a book, which was like very often then.'' Twilight rolled her eyes. ''So I was obsessed with books before, and?'' ''And so was Moondancer.'' Twilight blinked, then she facehoofed. ''I should have gotten you a therapist long ago...'' ''Hm?'' Spike muttered, not paying attention as he sat down on the couch and got out a 'Power Ponies' comic from behind his pillow and started having his eyes skim through the page. Twilight shook it off though. Rubbing her chin, she exited out of the living room to go to the library. She realised that there was a book from the box Celestia had packaged up and delivered it to her since she wasn't living in Canterlot anymore. She thought of reading through that book again since she had also realised something... ...Moondancer had given her that book. The doors opened with a glow of her magenta presence coming from her horn as she had powered it up. She entered inside it and started trotting through the isle of books until she had found a big brown book with little yellow stars on the cover. She blew off the dust from the cover of the book and started flipping through the pages but stopped at one page. ''Aha!'' Twilight uttered. ''To my friend Twilight Sparkle...'' She trailed off as she looked up from the book. ''Oh, it's just a letter she had written to me before giving me this book.'' She started flipping through the pages again until she stopped at one. She squinted her eyes carefully as the writing on the page was very small and hard to read, even for her. Twilight stretched her eyelids out in frustration until her eyes were scattering around the library and spotted a magnifying glass on one of the tables. ''Perfect!'' she exclaimed. ''Just the thing I need right now.'' She levitated the magnifying glass towards her with her magic and plotted it on the small text on the page. ''Dear Diary,'' she started. ''Today was one of the best days ever in my life! You can't believe what just happened. Apparently, the pony Twilight in my class I was talking about didn't have a partner today since they were sick and so was my partner! What a miracle! So, the teacher decided to pair us up and we were getting along so well! It looks like she might be the only pony who truly understands me...and have the same interests as me...'' ''Anyway, we were researching about Mage Meadowbrook from our history textbooks, and oh boy! Where do I even begin? She's so smart and literally knows everything! Well, I wouldn't be too surprised, considering she's Princess Celestia's most faithful student, but that is what makes her special!'' ''Although, she doesn't seem to care about making friends...like me, but I want to be her friend! I mean I think we are? I hope we are! She's so clever and cool! I wonder if I do the same manestyle as her then she'd notice me...'' Twilight looked up from the book, feeling a bit flattered at the same time. She skipped to the other page and started skimming her eyes down there. ''Dear Diary,'' she started. ''You know when I was talking about doing the same manestyle as her to get her attention? Well, turns out it didn't work after all. All she ever notices is her books! It gets me so annoyed and...angry.'' Twilight felt a swam of guilt on her shoulders. After all this time, she didn't notice that somepony really looked up to her yet took that for granted. She wished she could go back in time to undo that, but...time travel is risky. ''No! I shouldn't be mad at the Princess' protégé!'' Twilight lowered the book. 'Huh?' she thought to herself before having her eyes remain on the page again. ''Anyway, I have to go! I got invited to a birthday bash party by Minuette and her trio! Not going to lie but I prefer her, Lyra, Twinkle, and Lemon than Twilight Sparkle...I mean at least they pay attention to me! They care about their education yet still manage to make time for their friends. I feel...well, I don't know how I feel! But I know that writing all of this down isn't going to get off of my shoulders.'' Twilight snapped the book closed and secretly announced that this was the last diary entry she would be reading and she didn't want to intrude on her privacy anymore... ...but she gave it to her so it makes sense why she did. Twilight tried shaking it off and teleported to the living room again, having Spike sleep on the couch on top of his 'Power Ponies' comic until he had woke up due to the *POP* The violet alicorn was in a state of awe until he rubbed his eyes. ''Twilight?'' ''Oh. Hi, Spike. I didn't mean to wake you up, you can go back to sleep now.’’ Twilight put up a smile, tittering sheepishly and slowly walking back out the door. He yawned and scratched his back. ''No, it's fine. I was about to wake up anyway to go to my own bed. Thanks for the wake-up call though.'' Twilight chortled. ''No problem. Although, you know I could always carry you to bed, right?'' ''I know...but are you sure I haven't gained weight over the years?'' Twilight rolled her eyes. ''I don't think so.'' She used her magic to carry the purple baby dragon in her magical grasp to carry him to bed. Soon after, she opened the door and laid him inside his comfortable basket, and tucked him in before giving him a midnight kiss on the forehead. She trotted out the door and almost turned off the lights since... ''Twi?'' Twilight turned around, her horn fell silent, facing the baby dragon, who was tucked in his comfortable basket. ''What is it, Spike?'' ''I, uh, have one more question to ask.'' Twilight sighed. ''Sure. Go ahead and speak.'' Spike fiddled with his fingers, trying to come up with the right words to word this. ''Why do you and Starlight look similar?''
