Turquoise and Fluttershy were walking through a dense forest on their way to Azalea Town when they suddenly saw a bunch of honeycombs flying around.
“ Are those some kind of pokemon?” Turquoise asked herself before pulling out her Pokedex.
“ Combee, The Tiny Bee Pokemon, It ceaselessly gathers nectar from sunrise to sundown, all for the sake of Vespiquen and the swarm,” The Pokedex said. The Combee all looked like they were too focused on their work to notice the girls.
“ Where do you think they are going?” Fluttershy asked.
“ Back to the hive didn’t you hear the Pokedex entry?” A man with purple hair wearing an explorer's outfit said before leaping out of a tree to reveal himself.
“ And you are?” Turquoise asked.
“ The name is Bugsy, The Azalea Town Gym Leader and the ultimate expert on Bug-Types,” Bugsy said.
“ Your the Azalea Town Gym Leader?” Turquoise asked in shock.
“ I have been for over 20 years now,” Bugsy said.
“ Then why are you out here and not at your gym?” Fluttershy asked.
“ I occasionally come out to do some field research on Bug-types and my current topic is finding the location of the Amber Hive which is where all the Combee goes to make the legendary Amber Honey,” Bugsy said.
“ Good thing Rarity isn’t here she hates Bug-types,” Fluttershy said.
“ Whoever this Rarity is I have a whole earful to give her about how amazing Bug-Types are,” Bugsy said.
“ Rarity’s Dislikes aside do you have any leads on where this hive might be?” Turquoise asked.
“ I wish, I tried following them but whenever they spot me they attack me But I do have one clue,” Bugsy said before pulling a map of the forest out of his backpack. “ After gathering nectar they tend to fly into this cave that is on the far east of the forest.
“ So let’s head to that cave and start looking,” Turquoise said.
“ But here’s the thing I already investigated that cave there seems to be nothing there but a dead end,” Bugsy said. Little did they know there was a trio of familiar faces hiding in some foliage nearby listening in on their conversation.
“ Did you hear that? A legendary Treasure,” Chris said with joy.
“ We heard and imagine what we could do with all that honey,” Isabelle said.
“ I think Jessie and James would love a taste of it,” Meowth said while beginning to imagine what he was thinking. “ Imagine them waking up but not with the lights on upstairs when they suddenly get a whiff of the amber honey and begin to drool from the smell alone and then dig in before saying.
“ For finding us this amazing honey we will give Isabelle and Chris a big promotion,” Meowth said in his best impression of James. All three members of Team Supernova began acting like they were on cloud nine before focusing on following Turquoise and her group. Bugsy decided to start up some conversation while he and the girls were walking towards the cave.
“ So what brings you two to this forest?” Bugsy asked.
“ We are on our way to Azalea Town to challenge the gym,” Turquoise said.
“ Is that so well let’s make a deal then,” Bugsy said.
“ We’re listening,” Turquoise said.
“ If you two help me find the Amber Hive I can return to my gym quicker so I will accept your challenge then,” Bugsy said.
“ It’s a deal,” Turquoise said. As soon as they shook on it they arrived in front of the cave Bugsy was talking about. Before they could get inside a bunch of Combee flew out and began using a combined gust attack to try and send Turquoise, Fluttershy, and Bugsy away.
“ Murkrow come help me out,” Turquoise shouted before sending her Murkrow out. “ Use Nightshade on those Combee. Murkrow unleashed her Nightshade on multiple Combee before Turquoise pulled out a Pokeball instinctively.
“ Go Pokeball,” Turquoise shouted while throwing her Pokeball at one of the Combee with a red triangle on the bottom face. After absorbing it and shaking a few times it clicked shut indicating the catch was successful. “ I just caught a Combee. The other Combee retreated after seeing one of their comrades get captured. Turquoise recalled her Murkrow after they all left.
“ What was with the Combee with the triangle on its face?” Fluttershy asked.
“ Tell me are you girls familiar with gender differences?” Bugsy asked.
“ You mean the characteristics that define the gender of certain pokemon?” Turquoise asked.
“ Precisely,” Bugsy said before continuing his explanation by showing the girls a picture of a male and female Combee side by side. “ As you can see by this picture the female Combee have the triangle while the male ones don’t but here is why that difference is important. Only the female Combee evolve while the males don’t.
“ So I was lucky enough to catch a female?” Turquoise asked.
“ Yep now let’s keep going before those other Combee come back with reinforcements,” Bugsy said. The group continued into the cave before running into a fork that split into three paths.
“ So which way should we go?” Turquoise asked.
“ I tried all three paths and they each lead to a dead-end,” Bugsy said.
“ That’s impossible perhaps your missing something,” Fluttershy said.
“ Your right I must be missing something,” Bugsy said.
“ Let’s each take a path,” Turquoise suggested. “ I’ll take the left, Fluttershy you take the right and Bugsy will take the middle one. All three took their assigned paths each with a flashlight.
Meanwhile inside a massive hive that was almost the size of an actual house that was on top of the tallest tree in the forest a silhouette shaped like a queen that was sitting on top of a wax throne had her eyes glow red as a bunch of Combee flew towards the other end of the cave which was the exit to the left path.
With Fluttershy, she was walking along her path when she reached a dead end. Bugsy who also continued down his path also reached a dead end. As for Turquoise she reached the end of her path and noticed the wall she bumped into felt like it was alive. After backing up and shining her flashlight on the wall it was revealed to be a bunch of Combee all stacked together. Fluttershy and Bugsy soon joined her and Bugsy already knew what was going on.
“ Fascinating this must be Defend Order in action,” Bugsy said.
“ Defend Order?” Turquoise asked.
“ It’s one of three moves exclusive to Vespiquen,” Bugsy explained. “ It is normally used to raise her defense and Special Defense but in this case, it’s being used to block our path.
“ Then let’s unblock it,” Turquoise said before Bugsy stopped her.
“ Slow down ms quickdraw we need to handle this without harming the Combee or that defend Order will switch to an Attack Order,” Bugsy said.
“ Well, how are we suppose to do that?” Turquoise asked.
“ Like this,” Bugsy said before calling out a Butterfree. “Butterfree use Stun Spore. Butterfree unleashed some yellow powder that made contact with the wall and caused it to collapse, revealing a massive clearing with multiple hives in the trees. What was most noticeable was the massive amber-colored one on top of the tallest tree in the clearing.
“ Looks like we found the Amber Hive,” Fluttershy said. Before they could proceed any further, many angry Combee flew out of the smaller hives and looked ready to attack.
“ Let me guess this is Attack Order?” Turquoise asked Bugsy.
“ Exactly,” Bugsy said. Just when it looked like the Combee were about to attack they suddenly flew into the cave as if there were other intruders. The group took this chance to head towards the Amber Hive which luckily for them was unguarded now with half the Combee dealing with the other intruders and the other half paralyzed. As soon as they reached the top they crawled through the entrance and managed to find a room full of fountains of amber-colored liquid that smelled insanely sweet. But the most noticeable thing in the room was a Beehive-shaped creature sitting on a wax throne.
“ Girls meet Vespiquen,” Bugsy said before Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex.
“ Vespiquen, The Beehive Pokemon and the evolved form of a Female Combee. It skillfully commands its grubs in battles with its enemies. The grubs are willing to risk their lives to defend Vespiquen,” The Pokedex said. Vespiquen’s eyes suddenly glowed indicating she was issuing another order which caused all the Combee to return to the hive and prepare to attack.
“ We are not here to cause you harm, we come in peace,” Bugsy said trying to convince Vespiquen he and the girls were on her side. Suddenly a giant mechanical Beedrill appeared and started destroying all the trees in the clearing while sucking up all the Combee into its tail stinger. Naturally, this angered Vespiquen who now started to lash out at Bugsy and the others with Power Gem.
“ Why is she attacking us? we did nothing wrong,” Turquoise asked.
“ It’s that robot outside she must think we are with whoever is piloting it,” Bugsy said. Suddenly Turquoise saw the Team Supernova Insignia on it and knew exactly who was piloting it. Turquoise rushed in and tried to stop them before Bugsy grabbed her arm.
“ Slow down you can’t take on a robot of that size on your own,” Fluttershy said.
“ Well, what can we do?” Turquoise asked. Suddenly Fluttershy pulled out one of her Pokeballs.
“ Ursaring use Focus Blast,” Fluttershy said as she threw her Pokeball with Ursaring coming out and unleashing Focus Blast into the suction which caused the robot to explode and free all the Combee. Despite the robot being destroyed Isabelle, Chris, and Meowth were not done yet and rushed into the hive.
“ Now may I do something?” Turquoise asked.
“ Go right ahead,” Bugsy said.
“ In that case go Espeon,” Turquoise said before calling out Espeon. “ Use swift on these freaks. Espeon unleashed her strongest Swift on Isabelle, Chris, and Meowth thus sending them flying through the air until only a twinkle was left in the distance. Vespiquen saw how Turquoise and the others went out of their way to save her Combee and decided to reward them with some jars of her Amber Honey.
“ Thank you Vespiquen,” Bugsy said. The group left the hive and sometime later returned to the forest path. “ And now as promised allow me to show you to Azalea Town. after what felt like ten minutes of walking the group Arrived in Azalea town which despite being small was quite peaceful. “ I have a report to write but I promise to battle you tomorrow. After parting ways, Turquoise and Fluttershy went to the Pokemon Center where Loki was waiting for them.
“ About time you showed up,” Loki said.
“ How long have you been here?” Turquoise asked.
“ Two days, the Gym Leader wasn’t here so I killed some time by visiting Kurt for some Apricorn Pokeballs which he just finished today,” Loki said.
“ How convenient since we just got here with the Gym Leader Bugsy,” Turquoise said.
“ You met the Gym Leader? Where was he?” Loki asked.
“ In the forest conducting field research on Combee and the Amber Hive. We even got some Amber Honey,” Fluttershy said.
“ Neat, So did you challenge him to a battle already?” Loki asked.
“ Not yet, he said he will battle me tomorrow after he finishes his report,” Turquoise said.
“ In that case let’s battle right now I have some new Pokemon I wish to try,” Loki said.
“ Sure I have been itching to try my new Pokemon out,” Turquoise said. Turquoise and Loki went to the battlefield and after taking their positions had Fluttershy enter the conditions for the battle into the Refbot before hitting the ok button.
“ This battle will be a three-on-three battle with no substitutions,” The Refbot said.
“ Go Quilava,” Loki said before calling out a bigger and longer version of Cyndaquil with red eyes and fire on both its tail and its head. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for more info.
“Quilava, The Volcano Pokemon and the evolved form of Cyndaquil, It intimidates foes with the heat of its flames. The fire burns more strongly when it readies to fight,” The Pokedex said.
“ Go Murkrow,” Turquoise said before calling out her Murkrow.
“ Battle start,” The Refbot said.
“ Quilava use Flamewheel. Quilava ran fast before being covered in a wheel of fire.
“ Murkrow ascend and use NightShade. Murkrow flew higher and unleashed her Nightshade which damaged Quilava.
“ Not bad but we are not out yet. Quilava leap at Murkrow and use Flamewheel again. Quilava lunged at Quilava and unleashed Flamewheel this time landing it and causing burn status on Murkrow. “ Now use Ember. Quilava unleashed Ember which managed to land.
“ Murkrow use Assurance. Murkrow managed to land a powerful hit that caused Quilava to faint.
“ Quilava is unable to battle Murkrow wins,” The Refbot said while raising its right flag.
“ Return Quilava,” Loki said as he recalled Quilava. He then pulled out another Pokeball and threw it. “ Go Pichu. A cute little mouse-like creature with yellow fur with black on the edge of its pointy ears and pink spots on its cheeks. Turquoise while being struck by its cuteness pulled out her Pokedex.
“ Pichu. The Tiny Mouse Pokemon. Despite its small size, it can zap even adult humans. However, if it does so, it also surprises itself,” The Pokedex said. The battle resumed.
“ Murkrow use Wing Attack. Murkrow charged at Pichu with wings covered in white energy which did not faze Loki.
“ Dodge and use Thundershock. Pichu managed to dodge Wing Attack and unleashed a small electric jolt while not as powerful as Thunderbolt was still enough to inflict a good amount of damage to Murkrow.
“ Murkrow use Faint Attack,” Murkrow charged at Pichu while covered in dark energy.
“ If it’s a head-on crash you want then so be it, Pichu use Volt Tackle. Pichu charged at Murkrow while covered in yellow electricity. Both moves pushed against each other but in the end Volt Tackle prevailed and caused Murkrow to faint.
“ Murkrow is unable to battle Pichu is the winner,” The Refbot said while raising its left flag. Suddenly Pichu began to glow white which by this point Turquoise recognized as evolution. Pichu began to grow bigger while his ears became thinner and his tail turned into a lighting bolt. As soon as the light died Turquoise was shocked to see what Pichu became.
“ Pika,” Pichu now Pikachu said.
“ Pichu evolves into Pikachu?” Turquoise said in shock.
“ Your surprised didn’t they teach you about it in school before you started your journey?” Loki asked before using his Pokedex to see if Pikachu learned any new moves. “ Any way back to the battle call out your next pokemon.
“ Chikorita come on out,” Turquoise said as she called out Chikorita who looked ready to battle. “ Use Poison Powder. Chikorita spun her leaf around while releasing her Poison Powder which Pikachu got caught in and ended up being poisoned.
“ Pikachu use Quick Attack. Pikachu despite being poisoned managed to hit Chikorita with the speed of a bullet.
“ Chikorita use Razor Leaf. Chikorita unleashed her Razor leaf which managed to surround Pikachu before nailing him from all sides and finishing him.
“ Pikachu is unable to battle Chikorita is the winner,” The Refbot said while raising its right flag. Suddenly Chikorita began to glow indicating it was now her turn to evolve. Chikorita began to grow bigger while changing shape. When the glow died down a yellow plant-like creature with a light green leaf stem sticking out of her forehead and buds around her neck stood where Chikorita once did.
“ Bayleef,” The creature said before Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex.
“ Bayleef, The Leaf Pokemon, and the evolved form of Chikorita, A spicy aroma emanates from around its neck. The aroma acts as a stimulant to restore health,” The Pokedex said. Turquoise also noticed that Bayleef also learned Magical Leaf.
“ Not bad but let’s see how you handle my newest pokemon, Go Sewaddle. Loki called out a small caterpillar-like pokemon that had a leaf around its neck and head. Turquoise used her Pokedex one last time.
“ Sewaddle, The Sewing Pokemon, This Pokémon makes clothes for itself. It chews up leaves and sews them with sticky thread extruded from its mouth,” The Pokedex said.
“ In that case return Bayleef,” Turquoise said before recalling Bayleef and pulling out another Pokeball. “ Go Combee. Combee flew out and looked ready to battle.
“ A battle between bug-types how appropriate,” Loki said.
“ Yes it is now let’s see which one is stronger,” Turquoise said.
“ Sewaddle let’s start with String Shot. Sewaddle fired a white string at Combee before wrapping her up with it.
“ Combee use Gust to break out of there. Combee flapped her wings and managed to break free from the String shot and inflicted a ton of damage to Sewaddle since Gust was twice as effective against a Grass and Bug-type like Sewaddle. The damage was enough to knock Sewaddle out.
“ Sewaddle is unable to battle Combee is the winner which means Turquoise wins the match,” The Refbot said while raising its right flag.
“ Your team is not so bad,” Turquoise said.
“ Yours is good as well especially now that Chikorita has evolved,” Loki said. After recalling their pokemon and having Nurse Joy heal them everyone decided to call it a night.
