//------------------------------// // I'll Try to Go Easy on You // Story: The Pokémon Showdown // by PPEF1 //------------------------------// Sunset opened up Discord to call Fluttershy. She wanted to introduce her to a new game and see if she could play. “Hey Fluttershy.” “Why hello Sunset.” “Do you think you can play this game with me?” “Sure. But uh, what’s the game called?” “It’s called Pokémon Showdown. It’s an online Pokémon battle simulator. And I know you like Pokémon just like me.” “Ooh. That does sound fun.” “Great! Just search it up on Google, make a username, and then make a team.” “Okay.” Sunset waited for Fluttershy to make a team since she already had a team made. “Oh and uh you have to select a format for battling,” Sunset pointed out. “Just set your format to National Dex AG.” “Oh, okay.” Few minutes later, Fluttershy had finished constructing her team. “Okay, I’m done. So how do we battle each other?” “We’re gonna need each other’s username. In this case, I’m gonna need your username.” Fluttershy then gave Sunset her username. Sunset typed it in the ‘Find a user’ option, sending Fluttershy a battle request. “Now you should have a battle request on your screen. Do you have it?” “Yes.” “Okay, now just click accept and we should be able to battle each other.” Fluttershy clicked accept, sending both of them to a battle. On the screen showed both Sunset’s and Fluttershy’s team. Sunset’s team consisted of Galvantula, Salazzle, Milotic, Sableye, Dragonite, and Excadrill. Fluttershy’s team consisted of Azumarill, Lopunny, Vivillon, Togedemaru, Flareon, and Indeedee. “Nice team Fluttershy.” “Thanks.” The battle had started. Sunset sent out her Excadrill while Fluttershy started with Lopunny. “Okay, not a good start,” Sunset thought. “It’s fine. I’ll just switch to Sableye.” Sunset switched to Sableye, knowing that Lopunny’s Normal and Fighting-type moves won’t affect it thanks to its Ghost-typing. Sableye was sent into the battlefield. Lopunny then mega evolved, which was expected from Sunset. Lopunny used Fake Out doing 19% of damage. This confused Sunset. Sure, 19% was not a lot but Sableye is a Ghost-type which is immune to Normal-types. “Wait, how did that hit me?” Sunset asked. “Because of my ability,” Fluttershy replied. Sunset realized that when Lopunny mega evolves, it gets a different ability being Scrappy which makes Normal and Fighting-type moves hit Ghost-types. “OHHHH. Right.” Sunset thought hard about her next move since Return would do about half and High Jump Kick would just OHKO. Suddenly, an idea popped into Sunset’s head. She would burn the Lopunny via Will-O-Wisp, cutting its physical attack in half. Though her Sableye had a Sablenite, she decided to not to mega evolve so that her Prankster ability would come into play, making status moves have priority. “Let’s hope I land this,” she thought. Sunset clicked Will-O-Wisp, successfully landing it, making High Jump Kick do 60%. Lopunny then took burn damage. “Alright, that’s good,” Sunset thought. “Now I could just stall out till burn kills it or just switch to Milotic to get the Marvel Scale up. As Sunset thought about her next move, Fluttershy asked her a question. “Um, Sunset. I see this timer option on the screen. What does it do?” “Oh, well, you click it when someone takes too long making their move. But we’re not gonna use it for our battle.” “Oh, okay.” After thinking for a little while, Sunset decided to switch to her Milotic. As Sunset switched to her Milotic, Fluttershy did the same maneuver, withdrawing Lopunny for Azumarill. Milotic’s Flame Orb activated which also activated its Marvel Scale Sunset started to think about her next move since her Milotic couldn’t hurt Fluttershy’s Azumarill. “Okay. Can’t really do anything here. I guess I could just use Toxic.” As Sunset clicked her move, Fluttershy made another withdrawal, switching into her Togedemaru, immune to the Toxic. Milotic took damage from the Flame Orb.  “Dang. Nice switch.” “Thanks.” Sunset decided to switch to her Excadrill to take the Electric-type attack. Excadrill was sent out and took the Zing Zap. “Okay. Fluttershy knows the incoming Earthquake and will switch to her Vivillon. So I can either set up the Stealth Rocks or just use Iron Head. If I use Stealth Rock, the Vivillon isn’t going to take the juicy damage I’d like though I would get some entry hazards up. If I use Iron Head, it would do some good damage. I think the right move would be Iron Head.” Fluttershy withdrew to her Vivillon as expected of Sunset. Excadrill used Iron Head getting Vivillon to its Focus Sash. “DAMN that was some good damage!” Sunset exclaimed. “Ahh goodness! Good thing I had my sash.” “Another Iron Head should do the trick.” As Sunset clicked Iron Head, something unexpected happened. The Vivillon was faster and put Excadrill to sleep by using Sleep Powder. “Wait WHAT?! How are you faster?! I have a Jolly nature!” “Well I have a Timid nature.” “Ugh dang it. It’s fine I’ll just switch to my Salazzle.” Sunset switched to Salazzle as Vivillon Quiver Dances. Sunset started to panic. “Okay. The Vivillon needs to die NOW!” Since Quiver Dance boosts Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, Vivillon made the first move using Hurricane dealing 76% to the Salazzle. Unfortunately, Salazzle was confused. “Oh no,” Sunset feared. “Please don’t hit yourself.” Thankfully, Salazzle didn’t hurt itself in confusion, KOing the Vivillon. “Okay, that’s one down.” Fluttershy sent out Azumarill. “Okay, so Azumarill is clearly going to Aqua Jet,” Sunset thought. “That’s fine. I’ll just Sludge Wave. Hopefully I don’t get confused.” However, Azumarill didn’t use it’s priority move and Salazzle thankfully didn’t get confused, using Sludge Wave dealing 83% damage. Azumarill was in Sitrus Berry range gaining back 25% of health. Azumarill used Belly Drum halving its HP getting it to 21% health while also maxing out its Physical Attack. Azumarill used Aqua Jet, knocking out the Salazzle. Sunset wasn’t worried at all. She had a plan. Sunset brought out Galvantula, knowing that she wouldn’t worry about the Kinder Egg bunny sweeping her team. Azumarill used Aqua Jet, getting Galvantula to its Focus Sash. Galvantula safely used Thunderbolt KOing the Azumarill. “Okay, it’s five to four. This is fine.” Fluttershy brought out her Togedemaru. “Alright. Can’t really do anything here so I’ll just set up Sticky Web.” However, the Togedemaru had Fake Out, KOing Galvantula before it could set up webs. “Dang it,” Sunset thought in frustration. “It’s fine. I still have Excadrill for entry hazards.” Excadrill was sent out but was still asleep. “Oh no,” Sunset said in defeat. “I forgot that Vivillon put me to sleep.” Fluttershy withdrew Togedemaru for Flareon. Flareon’s Toxic Orb activated. “Oh no. You’re Guts.” Fluttershy decided to tease Sunset a little bit. “Since your Excadrill is asleep, and that I have Guts activated. I’m just gonna…” Fluttershy clicked Flare Blitz KOing the Excadrill. Flareon took Flare Blitz recoil and Toxic Orb damage. “Oh God. This thing is at max attack now and there’s nothing I can do about it. Not only that, I didn’t even get to set up any of my entry hazards. I guess I could switch into Milotic and try to tank some moves.” Sunset sent out Milotic. Suddenly, she realized that there was a little problem. “Oh wait. This thing has Facade. It’s gonna do more damage since it has a status condition. It’s okay, I think I can still take a Facade or two.” Flareon used Facade doing 35%. Milotic used Scald, getting a critical hit KOing the Flareon. “YESS!!” Sunset cheered. “I needed that crit!” Fluttershy sent out Togedemaru. Sunset decided to let Milotic fall to Togedemaru’s Zing Zap, and did just that. “Okay. Let’s see if I can pull off a Dragonite sweep,” Sunset thought. Sunset sent out Dragonite. Togedemaru used Zing Zap and did 19% due to Dragonite’s Multiscale ability. Dragonite used Dragon Dance. Sunset was ready to clean the rest of Fluttershy’s team. “Time to sweep.” Dragonite used Earthquake but Togedemaru lives with its Sturdy ability. Togedemaru used Zing Zap dealing 38% this time since the first one broke the Multiscale. “Ugh. That would’ve killed if it weren’t for Sturdy,” Sunset said in an annoyed tone. “It’s fine. Any attack kills from here.” Sunset decided to use Scale Shot even though it lowers the user’s defense, it also boosts the user’s speed so she could outspeed Lopunny. Togedemaru fainted after. Fluttershy sent out Lopunny. Lopunny used Fake Out flinching Dragonite and dealing 11%. Lopunny was hurt by burn “That’s fine,” Sunset thought. “If Scale Shot hits four times, I think this Lopunny goes down.” Dragonite used Scale Shot… and missed. Lopunny used Ice Punch KOing Dragonite. Lopunny was hurt by burn “OH COME ON!!!” Sunset was fuming mad. “NINETY PERCENT ACCURATE AND IT MISSED WHEN I REALLY NEEDED IT TO LAND!!! NOW I’M JUST LEFT WITH SABLEYE!!!!” “Oh dear. I’m sorry Sunset.” “No Fluttershy. It’s fine.” Sunset had cooled down. “Sableye, you’re gonna need a miracle if we’re gonna win this.” Sunset sent out Sableye. Sunset clicked ‘Mega Evolution’, turning Sableye into Mega Sableye. Lopunny used High Jump Kick and missed, taking half of its health. Sableye used Knock Off, getting a critical hit. The burn damage finished Lopunny. “OH MY GOD YESSS!!” Sunset was ecstatic. She got another critical when needed. “How are you always getting a crit when needed?” But that didn’t annoy Fluttershy. She sent out her last Pokémon, Indeedee. A psychic terrain occurred due to Indeedee’s Psychic Surge ability. Out of nowhere, Fluttershy dynamaxed her Indeedee, using Max Starfall dealing 52% to Sableye and changing the psychic terrain to a misty terrain. Sableye used Knock Off dealing 57% while also knocking off Indeedee’s Choice Specs. Sunset knew she had lost. Though Indeedee was in kill range, Sableye was slower. One more Max Starfall, and it was over. Fluttershy had won the battle. “Yay!” Fluttershy cheered. “That was so much fun Sunset.” But Sunset didn’t reply. She was frustrated due to her loss. “Sunset?” … “GG,” said Sunset. “Huh?” “Good game.” Fluttershy let out a little giggle. “Hehe. Good game to you too.”
