Turquoise was on the vidphone with Professor Oak while Fluttershy was outside waiting for her. Sometime later Turquoise came out ready for her Gym battle. As soon as they reached the Violet City Gym Falkner was waiting for them.

“ So Turquoise have you gotten any stronger since Gustville?” Falkner asked.

“ You bet a lot stronger,” Turquoise said.

“ Then I won,t need to hold anything back,” Falkner said before all three of them entered the Gym. As soon as they entered the floor began to rise like an elevator which explained the tower-like shape of the Gym. A few minutes later, they arrived on top of the tower which was an outdoor battlefield with no roof, which made perfect sense for a Flying-Type gym. As soon as both Trainers were positioned one of Falkner’s students took their position on the Ref’s spot.

“ The battle between Falkner the gym Leader and Turquoise the challenger will now begin. Each side will use three pokemon and the battle is over when all pokemon on one side are unable to battle. Also, Only the challenger is permitted to substitute pokemon,” The ref said.

“ Got it,” Turquoise said.

“ Agreed,” Falkner said.

“ Battle Start,” The Ref shouted. 

“ Noctowl take to the skies,” Falkner said as a brown owl-like pokemon with black triangle spots on its chest flew over the battlefield. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for more info.

“ Noctowl. The Owl Pokemon. Its eyes are specially developed to enable it to see clearly even in murky darkness and minimal light,” The Pokedex said. Turquoise wasted no time in calling her first pokemon.

“ Go Altaria,” Turquoise said as Altaria came out and looked graceful doing so.

“ I see you caught an Altaria very nice,” Falkner said.

“ Thanks, I caught it as a Swablu,” Turquoise said.

“ However it’s going to take more than elegance and grace to beat us. Noctowl use Air Slash. Noctowl unleashed a bunch of blades made of air that were heading for Altaria.

“ Dodge and use Dragon Breath. Altaria dodged the Air Slash and unleashed a breath of green fire that nailed Noctowl for a good amount of damage and paralyzed it.

“ Not bad but that won’t work either. Noctowl use Psycho Shift. Noctowl’s eyes began to glow before causing Altaria to look dazed. Suddenly the paralysis was transferred over to Altaria.

“ What just happened?” Turquoise asked.

“ Psycho shift is a psychic-type move that transfers any status condition my pokemon has to another Pokemon,” Falkner explained.

“ Altaria return,” Turquoise said before recalling Altaria. Turquoise figured now was a good time to give Murkrow a taste of a Gym Battle. “ Go Murkrow. Turquoise threw her Pokeball which popped open and unleashed Murkrow who looked ready to rock.

“ You challenge my Noctowl with that? Interesting choice,” Falkner said.

“ Murkrow use Wing Attack. Murkrow flew like a bullet at Noctowl and managed to score a powerful hit.

“ No way that’s Super Luck an ability that increases the odds of a critical hit,” Fluttershy said amazed by Murkrow’s ability.

“ Not bad but we are not out just yet. Noctowl use Steel Wing. Noctowl flew towards Murkrow with wings made of iron and managed to score a powerful hit as well. Murkrow managed to hang on but just barely.

“ Murkrow let’s end this in one shot. Use Assurance. Murkrow charged at Noctowl while covered in dark energy. Noctowl tried to dodge it but could not move in time and took a heavy amount of damage due to Assurance’s effect to dish out double the damage on the same turn the user takes damage. The resulting hit was enough to cause Noctowl to faint and crash to the ground.

“ Noctowl is unable to battle Murkrow is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.

“ Return Noctowl,” Falkner said as he recalled Noctowl. “ You battled splendidly now rest. I must say I was not expecting to lose to a Murkrow.

“ To be honest I was just as surprised to learn she had Super Luck as an ability,” Turquoise said.

“ But let’s see how you handle my next pokemon. Dodrio take to the skies,” Falkner said as he threw his next Pokeball which unleashed a brown three-headed bird that looked like it could not fly. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for more info.

Dodrio. The Triple Bird Pokemon. An odd species that is rarely found. The three heads respectively represent joy, sadness, and anger,” The Pokedex said.

“ Return Murkrow,” Turquoise said as she recalled Murkrow knowing she would lose since she took a lot of damage from her battle with Noctowl. Turquoise pulled out another Pokeball and threw it. “ Come back out Altaria. Altaria flew out of her Pokeball completely healed from the paralysis.

“ How is Altaria no longer Paralyzed?” Falkner asked.

“ It’s thanks to Altaria’s Natural Cure ability which heals any status conditions upon switching out,” Turquoise said.

“ Either way smart choice switching out. But that does not mean I’m going easy on you,” Falkner said.

“ I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Turquoise said.

“ Dodrio use Fury Attack. Dodrio managed to leap high into the air to everyone’s amazement and managed to ascend higher than Altaria before delivering a barrage of strikes on Altaria before using her as a springboard to go higher. “ Now use Drill Peck. Dodrio came soaring down with all three of its beaks spinning which made the attack three times as powerful thanks to its three heads.

“ Dodge and use Dragon Rush. Altaria managed to move out of the way in time before plummeting at Dodrio while covered in light green energy and nailing Dodrio for a ton of damage.

“ Not bad but let’s see you dodge this. Dodrio use Tri Attack. Dodrio formed a triangle that had a red, blue, and yellow circle on each point that was launched at Altaria who took it and was suddenly burned.

“ Altaria end this with Moon Blast. Altaria focused her energy before unleashing a powerful blast of pink energy.

“ Dodrio use Drill Peck. Dodrio managed to push through the Moon Blast while still taking damage. As soon as Dodrio made contact both he and Altaria fainted.

“ Both Pokemon are unable to battle this round is a draw,” The Ref said while crossing his flags.

“ Altaria return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Altaria. “ You battled elegantly now rest.

“ Return Dodrio,” Falkner said as he recalled Dodrio. “ You battled excellently now rest. Falkner smiled before pulling out his next Pokemon which Turquoise had a feeling she already knew who it was. “ Go Pidgeot. Pidgeot flew over the battlefield eagerly awaiting Turquoise’s next Pokemon.

“ Go Corviknight,” Turquoise said as Corviknight flew out and glistened.

“ Almost reminds us of our battle back in Gustville doesn’t it?” Falkner said.

“ But this time my Corviknight is a lot stronger than last time,” Turquoise said.

“ We shall see. Pidgeot use Tailwind. Pidgeot unleashed a gust behind him which raised his speed greatly. “ Now use Hurricane. Pidgeot flapped his wings very hard and generated a massive tornado that was heading for Corviknight.

“ Corviknight ascend and use Drill Peck. Corviknight flew above the Hurricane and unleashed a powerful Drill Peck on Pidgeot.  

“ Not bad but not good enough. Pidgeot use Aerial Ace. Pidgeot used the split second between the hit to loop around quickly and nail Corviknight for a decent amount of damage from close range.

“ Corviknight use Steel Wing. Corviknight struck back with wings of iron which caused Pidgeot to lose altitude.

“ Not bad you got much stronger since we last met. Now it’s time to show you our most powerful move. Pidgeot use Sky Attack. Pidgeot began charging power which gave turquoise an opening.

“ Corviknight use Brave Bird. Corviknight flew higher before tucking his wings in and setting himself on fire. Before he hit the ground he pulled up and the fire turned into a blue energy field while flying towards Pidgeot at a fast pace. Suddenly Pidgeot finished charging up and dived towards Corviknight causing both pokemon to push against each other. Both Corviknight and Pidgeot gave it all they had but in the end, Corviknight won and Pidgeot fainted and hit the ground while Corviknight took the recoil damage.

“ Pidgeot is unable to battle. Corviknight is the winner which means victory goes to the challenger,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.

“ We did it we won,” Turquoise said while hugging Corviknight who looked happy about it as well. After recalling Pidgeot Falkner approached Turquoise.

“ Turquoise that was an impressive battle and as proof of your victory at the Violet City gym I present you with the Zephyr Badge,” Falkner said be handing Turquoise a silver badge that looked like a pair of folded wings.

“ Thanks,” Turquoise said.

“ So any idea where you’re off to next?” Falkner asked.

“ To be honest I’m not sure. I might try and find the nearest contest or gym,” Turquoise said.

“ I may not know about contests but as for the nearest gym the next one is in Azalea Town which is also home to Kurt the Pokeball Maker,” Falkner said.

“ Then that is where we shall go next,” Turquoise said. After saying goodbye to Falkner Turquoise and Fluttershy returned to the Pokemon Center for the day. After healing Altaria and Corviknight Turquoise sent them back to Professor Oak for some R&R. As for Murkrow she was fully healed and stronger than before thanks to that gym battle.





Meanwhile, on Route 32 Loki and his Cyndaquil were in the middle of a battle with another trainer and his Chikorita.

“ Cyndaquil use Ember. Cyndaquil unleashed its Ember attack which not only burned Chikorita but also knocked it out. Which made Cyndaquil level up some more and also learn quick attack.

“ You win Loki,” The trainer said before recalling his Chikorita and returning to Violet City.

“ Soon we shall be ready for that rematch Falkner,” Loki said before looking for more trainers to battle while still thinking about his defeat at the Violet City Gym.





Back at the Pokemon Center Turquoise and Fluttershy noticed a lot of trainers coming in after losing a battle to the same guy. After hearing the description of the trainer Turquoise knew it was Loki. As soon as Fluttershy was ready they both went to Route 32 to see how Loki was up to. As soon as they got there they saw a bunch of trainers trying to avoid Loki since the rules of battle state once you meet each other’s gaze you must battle. Turquoise called him out which got his attention.

“ So we meet again Turquoise. I assume you’re here to do some trainer for the Violet City Gym too,” Loki said.

“ Don’t need to I already won my Zephyr Badge,” Turquoise said while showing him her badge.

“ You already won? But how I couldn’t even beat his Hoothoot,” Loki said in shock.

“ As I said before I’m the current Indigo League Champion so my Pokemon are much stronger,” Turquoise said.

“ Prove it,” Loki said.

“ If that is what it will take to show you then bring it,” Turquoise said.

“ Go Cyndaquil,” Loki said as he called out Cyndaquil.

“ Go Espeon,” Turquoise said as she called out Espeon.

“ Cyndaquil use Quick Attack. Cyndaquil leaped at Espeon like a bullet which did not faze Turquoise in the slightest.

“ Espeon use Psychic. Espeon unleashed her Psychic which levitated Cyndaquil before slamming it on the ground and causing it to faint. 

“ Cyndaquil return,” Loki said as he recalled Cyndaquil.

“ Now do you see the crystal clear line between your skills and mine?” Turquoise asked.

“ Fine I will admit you are stronger than I am but when we next meet I will beat you,” Loki said.

“ That aside how many pokemon have you caught so far?” Turquoise asked.

“ So far all I have is my Cyndaquil,” Loki said.

“ No wonder you lost to Falkner. You can’t win with just Cyndaquil you need to catch some more pokemon to at least stand a chance against a Gym Leader,” Turquoise said.

“ I tried to catch more but each time I tried they would run away after breaking free from the Pokeball,” Loki said.

“ Have you tried battling them and weakening them before catching them?” Turquoise asked which caused Loki to slap his own forehead out of frustration. “ You’re kidding me, right? must I keep holding your hand?

“ Well sorry if I am not Mrs, Indigo League Champion like you are,” Loki said.

“ You don’t have to be a champion to learn the basics you just need to learn through experience,” Turquoise said. After wrapping things up with Loki the girls continued towards the next town.
