Chapter 1

Canterlot the first great city of Equestria and within this bustling metropolis was a school of magic. The Starswirl's School for Gifted Unicorns (which would later be renamed Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns), it was founded by it's namesake Starswril the Bearded. A great wizard who was taught by Gusty the Great, the hero who defeated Grogar the Terrible.

The school was also famous for two of its star students, the alicoinian princesses of Equestria.

And outside this prestige magic school stood a young unicorn colt. His coat was orange and his mane is long and brown. He has green eyes and a saddlebag on his back. On his flank was his cutie mark of a blue gem with a silver ring with ruinic markings on it and a pair of green wings coming from the gem. On His horn was a ring with a gem in it just like the one in his cutie mark. His name is Galax Starrise.

"I can't believe I'm actually here." The young unicorn colt thought as he reflected on what how he ended up here.

******* A few weeks ago *******

Galax was sitting alone reading a book under a tree at the orphanage outside of Canterlot. He has lived in this orphanage for as long as he could remember. He has no memories of his parents since they died when he was really young. He had seen many ponys come and go from the orphanage. He hoped that one day he too would leave to see whats outside the orphanage, but now he was one of the oldest orphans there.

That's why he loved to read books. They could take him to places he'd never seen or heard of before and he hoped to see them for himself one day. Little did he know that his wish was about to come true.

One day he was reading one of his favorite books, when the caretaker of the orphanage, Rose Gemstone; a pink mare with a curly white mane and a pair of roses for a cutie mark, brought him a letter in a blue envelope. He was surprised to receive a letter, since he didn't know anyone who lived outside the orphanage. The letter had no return address so he had to open it to find out who it was from. He pondered on whether to open it or now, thinking it might just be junk mail.

After a few minutes of thinking about it, he finally decides to open it. It contained a letter from the Starswril school for gifted unicorns located in Canterlot, inviting him to attend it. He would be living on campus and the school would cover his room and board. They wanted a reply as soon as possible.

Rose was so happy for him, but he couldn't believe it. He couldn't possibly believe that the greatest magic school in all of Equestria would want a nobody like him. So he thru it away, believing it to be somebody's idea of a joke. He hadn't done anything to get the schools attention and why would they. He couldn't do basic unicorn magic that most unicorns knew. So it had to be a fake. Rose tried her best to convince him to take it seriously but it wasn't enough to change his mind.

Over the next few weeks, he continues to receive the same letters in increased urgency, but he still continues to throw them away. Untill one day a cloaked unicorn mare arrives at the orphanage and Rose Gemstone approaches her as she enters.

"Can I help you?" Rose Gemstone asked.

"I'm looking for Galax Starrise, is he here?" asked the cloaked pony.

"Yes, can I ask what this is about?"

The unicorn takes off her cloak reveling her light purple coat, pink mane and a cutie mark of a four leaf clover, " I was sent here on the behalf of the Starswirl school for gifted unicorns to find out why we never received a response to the the letters we sent him. "

" I knew it. So they were real."

"Of course they were real," the unicorn mare said confused, "why would you think otherwise?"

"Galax believed them to be fakes sent by someone to him as a joke"

"Why would he think that?"

"I think it would be better if you speak with him about it and then y'all understand why."

Rose Gemstone guided the unicorn mare though the orphanage, till they got to the field behind the orphanage where Galax was. He was like usual sitting by a tree in the middle of the field. He was reading alone, facing away from the orphanage. Once the unicorn mare knows where he was, she walks up to speak to him. The first thing she noticed was he still had not gotten his cutie mark yet, which was surprising since most fillies his age already have there cutie mark.

"Hello," she greeted him from behind.

Galax stops reading and says without look behind himself, "If your looking to adopt somepony, I'd recommend one of the younger fillies."

"Why would you say that?"

"I've been in this orphanage a long time most ponys would rather get a young fillie instead of a older one like me," Galaxy replied, "Plus no one wants a unicorn that can't use magic."

"What do you mean you can't use magic," the unicorn mare asked.

"Exactly what I said."

Galax then closed his book and placed it on the ground in front of him, "I'll show you what I mean."

Galaxy then tried to pick up his book with magic just as he had learn from reading books on the subject. He harnessed his magic within himself and trys to make it flow through his horn but nothing happened excerpt for a few green sparks coming from his horn.

"I've studied all the books on magic we have here multiple times," Galax explained sadly with his ears turned down, " But no matter how hard I try nothing happens. "

After listening to what Galax had to say, she understood his reason for thinking the letters were fake. But she knew the headmaster must of had a reason for wanting him to attend the school. So she casts a magic detection spell to gauge the amount of magic Galax possesses and she is surprised at the results.

"Wow! I detect a large amount of magic within you," the unicorn mare said surprised.

"Look," Galax says as he finally turns around to see who he's talking to, " if your trying too... "

Galax's words suddenly escaped him as he realizes who he's been talking to this whole time. He quickly opens up his book to a picture of the very same unicorn mare. He looks back and forth between the unicorn standing in front of him and the picture in his book.

"Your.. Your Clover the clever." Galax said in disbelief.

"Yes I am, " Clover bowed.

"Why would a great unicorn like you be here talking to me? "he asked.

"I was sent here on behalf of the Starswirl school for gifted unicorns to find out why you never answered any of our letters," she explained.

"Well now you know. I can't do magic. So you can understand why I never answered them. You've wasted your time coming here," Galaxy said sadly.

"I don't think so. If I'm right might know what going on with your magic," she says as she magicly pull something out of her saddlebags underneath her cloak.

Clover pulls out a silver ring with a blue gem embedded in it and ruinic marking carved on it and floats it towards him.

"What is that?" Galax asked curiously.

"This is a magic support ring," Clover explained, " I'm going to place this ring on your horn. Then I want to you to try use magic again, but this time try to make your magic flow though the ring before your horn. "

"Ok." Galax said as she places the ring on his horn.

Then Galax tried again to pick up his book with magic. He followed Clover's instructions and try to make his magic flow though the ring. The ring began to glow green and then his horn glowed green too. Green magic surrounded his book as it began to float off the ground. Galax couldn't believe it. He was so happy he was finally able to do magic. Then suddenly his flank began to glow and his cutie mark appeared. It was of a blue gem with a silver ring that has ruinic markings on it just like the ring Clover gave him. There was also a pair of green wings coming from the gem. He was so happy that he lost control of his flow of magic as the tree next to him glowed and was ripped from the ground. The sound of the trees roots snapping as it was ripped from the ground shocked Galax causing his flow of magic to stop. The book fell to the ground and before the tree could fall on him, Clover caught it with her magic.

"Believe me now?" Clover asked as she reset the tree back into the ground.

"I don't understand thou. Why did I need a magic ring to use magic?" Galaxy asked.

"It's a extremely rare unicorn disability that cause a unicorns horn to not work properly." Clover explained, "It's usually cause by one of the parents not being a unicorn."

Galax used his magic again just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. He used his magic to pick up his book, open it, and closed it before placing it back on the ground. Galax now had a big smile on his face. He had never been so happy in his life. And he had her to thank for it.

"So what do you think of joining the school now," Clover asked smiling.

"Really? You still want me, even when I need this ring to do magic."

"Yep! You have a lot of magic inside you and your pretty smart too."

"Then I except and thank you for helping me find my magic!" Galaxy smiled happily.

***********
There was still a couple of week before school started, so Clover spent most of that time helping Galax with his magic and before he knew it was time for him to leave.

"So your leaving?" Rose asked as Galax packed his few belongings into his saddlebags.

"Ya," Galax answered in high spirts.

Even though Galax tended to keep to himself, Rose was always there. She always looked out for him. Every time he had received a letter from the magic school, She always tried to convince him to take it seriously. She even went out of her way to get new books for him. She was like a mother to him. And Galax knew all this.

So when he finished packing his saddlebags, he gave her a big hug as he crys tears of joy and saddness.

"Galax!" Rose said surprised by the sudden show of emotions. "What's wong?"

" I just want to thank you for always being there," Galax said crying, "I'm going to miss you."

Rose begins to cry too, "I'm going to miss you too. You will always have a home here. So you better come back and visit, Ok."

"I will."

*******************

Even now as Galax stood there in front of the Starswirl school for gifted unicorns, he still couldn't believe this was happening.

Clover walks up beside him and asks, "Are you ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." Galax says before the two of walk towards the school.

What Galax didn't know was this was only the beginning of his story. A story filled with adventure and battles against great evils. A story of love and doing whatever it takes to save the ponys he cares about.

This is an untold story in Equestria history. The story of Galax Starrise.
