//------------------------------// // Chapter 5: Drenched // Story: Summer Camp Fun // by FireworksPOP //------------------------------// Sunset walked out near the lake, the stars were bright because a new moon stayed unseen in the night sky. The deer cabin campers were supposedly asleep, after a good half hour of keeping June from tackling Violet after something else that she said came out wrong. SMACK! Sunset walked straight into something and fell to the ground. “Why does this keep happening to us?” A familiar voice of a certain someone made her giggle. “I don’t know why, but if it happens any more often my brain will become a smoothie.” A goofy grin spread across Flash’s face. “So either you’ll always look like this,” He stuck his tongue out and crossed his eyes. “...or a zombie will come and drink it for breakfast.” He got up and offered his hand to Sunset who took it and stood up. “Flash you really are a goofball.” “Not as big a goofball as the guy who transferred to Canterlot high and challenged the Pinkie Pie to a goof-off.” “Cheese Sandwich? Yhea, Rainbow’s birthday was a little strange when they began trying to outdo each other while planning her party.” “Didn’t Pinkie show up with some sort of giant pinata and accidentally drop it on Rainbow Dash?” “Yhea, we had to talk to her for a long time trying to get her to not leave town, and I get the sense she know has a crush on him, during camp Everfree when I discovered that mind reading power, she made me look into her mind and I felt myself getting a cavity while I watched Pinkie skip down a road made of candy and with all sorts of dancing sweets, then just before I pulled myself out I saw a memory where they saw each other in the hallway, turned red, and walked in the other direction.” “Sounds like us after the fall formal when everything was sort of awkward.” “Eggsactly.” “And we have those three in the CMC group to thank for that situation that brought us back together.” “I just hope no one finds out about that beat up I took on because of it.” “You blacked out, had a sprained risk, ankle, scratches on your face and bruises down your arms, like i’m not going to help.” “I’ll never be able to forget that voice that told them to kill me.” “There awful people, every time I see them I have to force myself not to march up to them and yell, what is wrong with you?!” “Thanks for not doing that.” “Maybe one day I’ll get over what they did to you.” “Maybe one day.” They walked down to the dock and climbed into a canoe. Flash untied the rope and they drifted away from the dock. Sunset looked down at the water and let her fingertips glide through it. “This place is way better than equestria.” she whispered. “Do not tell princess Twilight I said that.” Flash let another grin spread across his face. “Maybe I will, maybe I won’t.” Sunset splashed him with some water. “Hey!” He said before splashing her back. Sunset laughed. Then fell backward, causing the canoe to tip over and making them both fall into the lake. Once they resurfaced, Flash smiled. “Who’s the clumsy one now?” “I’m guessing it’s me seeing I'm the only other one here.” She giggled. “Why do I really want to kiss you right now?” “I have no idea.” her shy smile and sparkling eyes returned, and a crimson blush appeared on her face. Flash didn’t know what came over him, but he swam closer to her and leaned in, giving her a deep and meaningful kiss. Her heart melted right then. Flash pulled away and turned red. They were silent, staring into each others eyes, both scared to be the first one to speak. Flash looked down. “Sorry.” “Don’t say that. I… feel that way to.” “You do? We never got that far from me kissing your cheek.” “No.. we.. didn’t. But I still.. I still.. Love you.” “And I love you.” “We really have come far from the Anon-a-Miss thing.” “Yhea.. we have.” “Hey Shim-shine?” “You know I love that nickname, I’ll answer any question you want.” “If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?” Sunset went into thought. “Lets see.. I was stuck in the mirror dimension for a year… and inside there time is still… so I didn't age there… huh. Princess Twilight is like a year older than me, I think I’m… I remember my birthday being somewhere in august, so I’m gonna say i’m actually sixteen this august.” “But we're going into the eleventh grade, you're fifteen?” “Yeah… but my human counterpart is probably about sixteen so when I went through the portal it made me the same age as my counterpart.” “So you're actually fifteen?” “Technically, I haven't told Twi yet because she would probably want blood samples to run tests on.” “Have you ever wondered where your human counterpart is?” “No not really… I do remember living in a small town that was very far from Canterlot, so she could either live in another state, or a completely different country.” “That would explain it.” “Explain what?” “The shape of your eyes, not like everyone else's, the stripes of gold in your hair too.” “I remember a few months ago Rarity thought I dyed my hair red and yellow, so she had Twi secretly create a type of chemical that can remove hair dye, then dumped it on me in the middle of the hallway.” “Is that why you showed up to history class with wet hair?” “Yep, but there was on side effect to that stuff that Twi missed.” “What was that?” “When I woke up the next morning my hair was purple, thankfully it faded before school started.” “Umm…” “What was that for?” “Well, that part of the story kinda explains why a few of the curls in the back of your head where… purple.” Sunset’s mouth dropped open and she dunked her head under the water making it hard to see where she was. “Sunset? Where did you go?” A cold splash of water hit the back of his head. “You didn’t think to tell me that I came to school with partly purple hair back during december?!” He turned around and ducked under the water to avoid another splash, which didn’t exactly help. “I thought that Rainbow had pranked you again! She would kill me if I had pointed it out!” “Then why did no one else tell me?!” “Everyone else thought the same thing too! During the sixth grade her brother ended tied to a ceiling fan with a soccer net when she got mad at him! No one but her friends ever mess with her!” “Okay, I would say that’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard, but once pinkie said, and I quote, “The writer of this story is probably scolding me right now for eating a taco from taco tuesday that I stored in my hair until friday.” “Pinkamena Pie is one of the weirdest things that has ever happened at our school, and that’s saying a lot.” “I hear her and Cheese sandwich say weird things like that alot to, and it’s weird how she can guess something exactly off the top of her head, like, “While you were in Summer camp you got back with Flash Sentry and fell out of a canoe during a date and had a long conversation while freezing cold in the water!” Then Rainbow says, “Pretty sure she wasn’t gonna say that.” then she ends up being right, she called it Pinkie sense, like a sixth sense so she knows something is about to happen, sorda like how I know when there’s magic around, I kinda feel something like it right know but maybe it’s just because we've been talking for two hours in a lake at night and I feel really cold.” “Okay, I’m feeling cold too, we should get our canoe and go back to our cabins.” ***** Sunset quietly opened the door of her cabin. She looked around and smiled. Violet was sleeping peacefully, Camo mumbled something about commanding soldiers, and June was asleep on her bed curled up in the fuzzy soft blanket with Ray laying on her pillow because he had climbed up there earlier to make June feel welcome. Ray was kinda like a emotional support animal, he liked to climb off her desk in the mornings when she had nightmares about the fall formal, particularly the parts where she heard the sound of the princess of friendship’s voice saying the things that she wished she could forget, which the whole school had herd, but never thought much about and eventually forgot. Sunset grabbed a pair of pajamas from her suitcase and a towel. She walked into the bathroom and took a quick shower and put on her pj’s, then coming back to her bed and laying back with her head on her pillow, her heart filled with joy and wonder. He kissed me, he kissed me, he always cared, he feels the same way I do, and such a goofball too, I love him so much. I told him my actual age, never done that before, never told anyone, but he didn’t care. Jeez my friends would kill me for not telling them right away, but to be fair, me and Flash did make a promise to each other, not to tell until we really feel we should, and when we did the Anon-a-Miss thing was happening, then before the promise I was going to tell them at lunch until that particular trick Rainbow pulled on me, then that was the afternoon we promised. Sunset’s thought’s wandered back to that magical moment after the canoe had tipped, replaying it in her head a few more times before falling asleep. ***** Flash walked into his cabin with a huge smile on his face. Riptide sat up. “Hi.” he mumbled. “Hey Riptide, why are you still awake?” “I dunno, I want to go to sleep but I can’t.” “Are your thoughts still scrambled?” “What?” “Nevermind, it’s something about June, isn’t it?” “Well, maybe. I want to be her friend.” Flash shook his head. “Then tomaro go ask her if she wants to be friends, then go enjoy the fun.” “I don’t know what she’s saying though.” “Just have some fun, you’ll figure it out soon enough.” “Did you tip over the canoe while you were talking?” “Nope, oddly enough, Sunset caused us to get drenched.” “I’ve only been here for a day, and I already know you get super clumsy when you're around her.” “I wouldn’t say supper clumsy.” “I think I can go to sleep now, I’m gonna imagine you falling out of the canoe.” “ I hope you get some sleep, where doing a planned hike, the director wants to get us out of campgrounds for awhile, each cabin was assigned a buddy cabin to make a hundred precent sure no one gets lost or something like that, Fern also said something about lawsuits and stuff, anyway, we got buddy with deer cabin and were hiking up to glacier point.” “Why’s it called glacier point?” “Perfect view of the lake, supposed to look amazing when the sun is in the middle of the sky.” “Sounds *yawn* cool.” Riptide lied down and after just a few seconds started to snore. Flash took a shower and put on a t-shirt and shorts. He lied down in his bed, not able to get her shy smile, bright cyan eyes, and crimson blush that appeared on her face why he asked her that stupid question as to why he wanted to kiss he right then. He had felt stupid just asking, and right after finding out she was actually fifteen, but that didn’t really matter, when she came through the portal it made her the same age as her counterpart, so she was about sixteen. It was confusing, and if he ever got the chance he would march up to that princess and make her feel real guilty about what she did to poor Sunset or punch her real hard. While they were on the bus, she told him that she had been in a mirror dimension before, but hadn’t mentioned she had been in there for a year, or that time stood still and she had stayed the same age as everyone else went on with a new year of their lives. Sunset probably never had a birthday party since she became Celestia’s pupil when she was three! Oh I’m gonna give that princess a piece of my mind if I ever go to Canterlot. Sunset can’t ever remember the day, all she knew is it was in august. I’m gonna give Sunset the best day I can when the first month of eleventh grade starts. I don’t know what day, but it can still count. I can surprise her with something nice. Like a new one of those jackets she loves to wear, or a- whait, that it, perfect. Simple but kind and full of love, she would love it. I swear, the first night of the summer and I’m planning on getting her something two months from now. She’s so sweet. I love Sunset, and I’m not letting go again. I’m am a sappy goofball.
