Summer Camp Fun

Chapter 3: Smores

Sunset led her campers to the campfire where dozens of other campers and counselors were gathering by the fire.

Flash saw her and smiled. He waved at them. In a fraction of a second, she could hear his thoughts.

I really want to talk to her, maybe Sunset will sit next to me? Is my face red? Oh jeez my face is red. Is she walking over to me? I guess every cloud has a shimmer lining. Whait, was that pun?

“Hi Flash.” Sunset walked up to him and sat down while her campers took their seats a little ways away from them.

“Hi Sunset, I was just thinking about you.”

“I know.”

“Whait, how did you know?”

Sunset shrugged. “This must be one of those days when Rainbow has to use her super speed to get away from Zephyr all day.”

“You mean Fluttershy’s brother? What does that have to do with your magic going haywire?”

“Well, Twilight said when Rainbow uses her speed too much it superchargers our powers, once I was walking to school with Twilight, and all the sudden there was a floating bench over our heads!”

“Yikes, that must have been scary.”

“It was scarier when it fell on top of us.”

“It did?! Why didn't you tell me you almost died?!”

“If I told you about all the times I've almost died you would never leave my side.”

“That’s happened that much?”

Sunset shrugged. “Hey, I've been meaning to ask you, when did you become a vegetarian?”

“When I was about five, when my older brother told me what meat was.”

“You’re very considerate about how I feel, there’s only Twilight and Fluttershy who are vegetarian, and last week I passed out because Applejack showed me her horse Carmel.”

“What happened?”

“I woke up four hours later after Applejack poured a bottle of hot sauce in my mouth.”

“She poured a bottle of hot sauce in your mouth?”

“It wasn't just any hot sauce, it was the kind that granny Smith makes with apple cider and Trinidad Scorpion peppers.”

“Aren't those like the fourth hottest peppers in the U.S.?”

“Those would be the ones, after that I found out the Apple family has an incredible tolerance for spice, at their family reunions they hollow out apples and fill them with that stuff, it’s like a snack to them.”

“That’s… strange.”

Just then Sunburst popped out of nowhere next to them. “You guys were so distracted by your conversation you didn’t get the stuff for your smores!” He handed them two sticks and a small bag with marshmallows, crackers and chocolate. Then something distracted him and he disappeared again.

“Sorry about Sunburst, he’s… a little overly positive.”

“No kidding.”

Sunset and Flash put their smores over the fire and they smiled more than anything. Flash took a few pictures of them together. “Hey remember when we met? You were so clumsy on your feet that I started to think you came from a country where people walked on their hands.”

Sunset laughed. “Says the guy who seems to crash into me every time we go to meet each other.”

“Okay, you got me there, I do crash into you alot.”

“Hey Flash?”

“Yes?”

“I think Riptide has a crush on one of my campers.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Well look at him.”

They both looked to where Riptide was still holding his smore over the fire, it was so burnt it was like charcoal. He was distracted by something, and they followed his gaze to where June was sitting, enjoying her smore with a huge smile on her face.

Flash looked back at Sunset. “You can hear his thoughts too, can’t you?”

“Don’t blame me, blame dash, and his thoughts are all jumbled and the only clear thing is her name ringing like a bell in his head, that and “Ask my counciler’s girlfriend later if she can teach me sign language.”’

“Whow, this is going to end well.”

“Why do I get the feeling the jumbled thing was happening in your head when we met?”

Flash turned red, and Sunset tried to muffle her giggle behind her hands. “You're so cute, I'm gonna take this geod of, it’ll stop the mind power over reactor thing, but not the pony ears when we play our music together.”

The director, Fern, walked past the campers and looked down at them with an annoyed expression on her face. “If you two love birds are done, I would like to get the music started so I can go finish my movie.”

Sunset and Flash looked at eachother confused, then shrugged. “I guess we should go grab our guitars.” Flash stood up and Sunset followed him, and ran off to their cabins and grabbed their guitars. Once they walked back, she looked over at him then sighed. “I really enjoy doing this but sometimes the magic gets on my nerves, but it is my fault it’s even here in the first place.”

“Quit blaming yourself, I still say it was Celestia’s fault after hearing that story.”

“Agree to disagree, I was the one how let her get to me, I let myself get cold and bitter.”

“Let’s settle this debate later, Which song do you want to play first?”

"How about we just go along with it? That usually really works out."

"Okay, let's do this."
