Equestria's resident human John was excited, they had finally managed to get the Mirror Portal to link to Earth so he could go home. He was going to miss all the friends he had made here but he knew he had family and friends to get back to. When he was informed by Twilight that they had made a successful link he was ecstatic, but it quickly dawned on him that he would have to leave behind everything that he had built up while he was here.

He had till the end of the day to get his stuff together that he would take back with him among them were pictures of him and friends, multiple books, his birthday gifts, as well as a jar of dragon fire which he was to try to use to contact them from the other side. With all of his stuff packed he went to his room in Twilight's castle and crawled into his cloud bed and fell asleep quickly so he could be up and ready for the next day. As he felt sleep start to take it's grasp on him he thinks about how much he'll miss everyone here but that he is needed back home as well.

When he wakes up in the morning he quickly grabs his stuff and says goodbye before boarding a train to Canterlot. While on the train he starts writing his letters to ponies here that he will try to send when he gets home. Once he finishes his writing he decides to take a quick nap before he arrives. Once the train has finally at the station in Canterlot he is jolted awake from his nap as he gets off the train and starts heading to castle waving to a few of the friends he's made in the city as he passes them. 

Once he finally at the castle he shows a letter he had received from Celestia which would allow him access into the castle. Once he is in the castle he makes his way to the throne room where he is supposed to meet the princesses. On his way there he notices something odd about one of the plants and stops to look at it. As he gets close to the potted plant it jumps in the air before spinning and seemingly morphs into Discord.

"Wow nice entrance there Dissy, I actually thought I was imagining things before you transformed." John casually says to Discord pretty used to his abilities at this point.

"Oh my you wound me, I'm becoming predictable this is just the Worst Possible Thing!!" He shouts dramatically in a tone that sounds similar to Rarity as he 'faints' onto a couch, before he gets up and smirks. "Well John seems like you finally get to go home, I hope you don't miss me too much."

John shakes his head at Discord's antics but can't help but smile. "I'm gonna miss everyone, but I'm hoping that they can eventually make it stable enough to travel back and forth, but I know not to get my hopes up." He says sadly but with a smile thinking of home.

"Well let's not keep Celly waiting." As Discord says this he snaps his talons and teleports the both of them including Celestia to a room deep in the castle with multiple protections in case the portal explodes. When they arrive John takes a second to regain his balance as even after a few years he still isn't used to teleportation. At the same time Celestia turns to the both of them and glares at Discord.

"Was that really necessary Discord?" She asks him as she shakes her head and approaches Twilight and Luna and checks the portal herself before nodding. "Are you ready John?" She asks him just to make sure he isn't having any second thoughts.

John looks to the three princesses and nods as he walks forward. Once he gets to the portal Twilight lights up her horn as she activates the machine attached to the mirror. The portal starts up and sparks for a second before it stays still and shows a weird purple vortex as it stabilizes. Once it finishes, John walks forward and gives the princesses each a hug and gives Discord a wave before walking through the portal.

As he goes through the portal he arrives on the other side almost instantly, once he arrives on the other side he looks around and sees crumbling buildings and is what looks like a warzone. He's concerned at that fact and is very careful as he looks around. After a while it seems that the place was abandoned a while ago as everything has a fine layer of dust on it. He hears an odd sound and looks outside and sees a plane up above. When he looks at it he can't recognize the flag painted on it. As it gets closer he sees it drop something roundish in shape. His eyes widen as he runs back to the portal,  he can hear the sound of an explosion as he approaches the portal. He looks behind him and sees the blast quickly approaching and jumps through the portal.

When he comes flying through the Equestrian side of the portal everyone is shocked that he was back so quickly. He explains what happened on the other side of the portal. He's upset he can't get home now but had already accepted he may not ever make it home before. He asks for a place he can sleep at for now and Luna graciously offers her room while her, Celestia, and Twilight have a chat. He nods and Luna teleports him there where he quickly falls asleep.

When John wakes up a few hours later he remembers why he's in Luna's room and get's out of bed. After getting his stuff together he walks out of the room and asks a guard where the princesses are. Having been informed to give him their location when he awakens he is lead to them. Once there he sees Luna but no Twilight and Celestia. She explains that they moved to her sisters study and they requested she bring him once he awoke. He thanks her and they start heading to the study.

As they arrive they knock and are greeted by Celestia and asked to take a seat. He notices that everyone has sad faces but are still keeping strong. "We would like to apologize that we can't get you home. We tried but could never find any other way, and with the portal on that side destroyed we can't access it anymore. Is there anything I can do to help make this up to you?" Celestia is visibly sad as she says this.

"Maybe just a hug for now." After he says that he is quickly surrounded by the three princesses as he hugs them back and thinks about how things will be very different now, but he knows he can get through it with his friends help. He feels himself smile as he thinks about just what he can do now that he knows for certain that this is his new home.
