Insomnambula

Epilogue

It was a full house in Ponyville’s theater that evening. Consisting as part of the crowd were the Mane 6, Spike, Princesses Cadance, Princess Luna, and Princess Celestia. The audience remained enthralled as the event was nearing its end with one last but not least musical performance…

As the curtains drew, there sat Octavia Melody with her cello in the limelight. Everyone’s attention was drawn to her. Maintaining composure, Octavia was resolute to perform her best.

She inhaled a deep breath and began to play her cover of ‘Canon in D’. The audience was mesmerized by its melodic yet soothing tune. Octavia played slowly but steadily. About a minute into the song, the sound of a rhythmic beat was heard, and it wasn’t coming from Octavia.

Confusion swept the ponies, until behind Octavia, a platform ascended onto the stage. On it stood a colossal DJ controller, operated by DJ Pon-3, backing up Octavia’s song piece with her own symphonic enhancements. The audience cheered and laughed in delight of the surprise performance, including Twilight and Princess Celestia.

By the end of it, thunderous acclaim swept the auditorium as DJ Pon-3 and Octavia were showered with endless praise. DJ Pon-3 lifted her shades and winked at Octavia, who smiled and nodded back at her. It was excellent teamwork indeed.

In a dark and isolated room within Canterlot, the Crystal of Celestia sat silently in an open chest. An eerie glow emanated from within it. Princess Luna was inexplicably magnetized to it, having been summoned by its seductive voice… the voice of Somnambula. Her evil presence remained strong. She lured Princess Luna ever closer to her. Princess Luna felt ever so tempted to touch the crystal, merely an inch away, invited by its captivating beauty and glare.

“MOLLY, STOP!” exclaimed a voice.

Princess Celestia pulled Princess Luna away forcefully by her mane. Princess Luna awoke from her trance with a blink from her eyes and acknowledged her sister’s presence. She didn’t know what came over her or why she was even in such a desolate place.

“Celestia…?” Princess Luna meekly spoke, befuddled. “I… I don’t know what came over me… but something drew me here… it was that… thing. For some reason I can’t explain, I recognized its voice… like I’ve heard it before...”

She heard it before indeed, but that was from another lifetime. Princess Celestia stared at crystal with stern eyes, closing the chest firmly and locking it for good. “You shouldn’t be here. In fact, you should forget about ever coming here.”

The princesses left the abandoned chest and departed the room. At its entrance stood two royal guards on duty, who shut the doors behind them as they passed. No one was to ever go anywhere near Somnambula again.

Octavia was practicing with her cello once more in her house, getting ready for yet another upcoming concert. She had practiced all morning and for the majority of the afternoon. There were other rehearsals going on in Ponyville’s theater, so the dedicated musician chose to play at home while DJ Pon-3 was off spending the afternoon with Neon Lights.

A knock came from the door.

It sounded almost like the creepy knocks she received weeks ago. Octavia settled down her cello and bow and put them inside their case safely and securely, locking the case. She cautiously approached the door, peering through the peephole. There on the other side was DJ Pon-3, waving at her. Perhaps she’d forgotten something else besides her headphones this time round.

Octavia opened the door, much to her surprise was not only Neon Lights accompanying her, but also the Mane 6.

“Oh…” remarked Octavia. “… to what do I owe this unscheduled visit?”

“Nothing.” chuckled Twilight. “We just wanted to ask if you’d be interested going apple picking with us at Sweet Apple Acres tomorrow.”

“C’mon, pretty please?!” Pinkie Pie begged.

DJ Pon-3 nodded in support with them.

Octavia rolled her eyes away and considered. She smiled once she had made her decision: “Of course, I’d be delighted.”
