//------------------------------// // Lunch (Or: Pinkie Discovers Television) // Story: Ponies In Australia // by Dawn-Designs-Art //------------------------------// “Okay, so let me get this straight, in this world, nopony controls the weather? It just, happens on its own?” Rainbow Dash asked incredulously after I had explained why the clouds were strewn so unprofessionally across the sky. “That’s right” I replied, slicing tomatoes for toasted tomato and cheese sandwiches, which was to be our lunch. I refrained from adding ham to my sandwich, as I doubted the ponies would take too kindly to me eating meat. “So you humans never have any idea what the weather will be each day?” Rainbow sounded shocked. “Well, no. We have weather radars and satellites and stuff which can tell us what the weather will be for the next few days, their pretty accurate” I smiled at her. “And… and what of the ahh, animals? D-do they erm, care for themselves?” Fluttershy asked quietly. “Well, the wild ones do, we care for our pets, like Mystery is my pet and I care for him” I told her. She nodded and glanced at Mystery who was singing his hear out in reply to the lorikeets and noisy minors in the bottlebrush outside the window. Applejack shakes her head “Now that just doesn’t sit right with me, it sounds too much like the Everfree Forest.” She looked at the fruit bowl on the bench and too an apple in her hoof. “This apple is mighty small.” “Yeah, perfect for lunchboxes” I said with a smile, but Applejack didn’t seem to agree. “Apples are meant to big, not small, it just aint right” she shook her head again and went to sit on the couch. “Don’t mind her Rebecca dear, she is just fussy when it comes to apples” Rarity told me quietly. “Ah heard that Rarity” AJ said. Rarity just rolled her eyes and looked at my clothes. “So humans wear clothes every day? And have lots of clothes too?” “Yeah, we do” I replied. “Oh my, think of all the business I could get! In fact, you must allow me to design an ensemble for you, I would make it simply divine!” Rarity giggled quietly, a sparkle in her eye. I grinned and nodded “sure, sounds wonderful” I finished slicing tomato and assembled the sandwiches, putting the first four in the sandwich toaster. Suddenly there were voices in the room, and background music. Turning around I saw images on the big Plasma TV on the wall. Pinkie Pie had found the TV remote. “Wow! The black rectangle is a MAGIC black rectangle! Cause it was all black before, and then I pressed the big button on this doohickie here and suddenly colour and sound and… Wowie! Guys! Their cooking cakes on the magic black rectangle! Look, look!” Pinkie pointed at the screen, a huge grin on her face. Looking at the screen I smiled, one of my favourite shows was on, ‘Ace of Cakes’. “It’s not a magic black rectangle Pinkie, it’s a television, it runs on electricity, which is what powers most things. That show is called ‘Ace of Cakes’, they decorate cakes” I explained, but she didn’t seem to hear me as her attention was on the TV, where the workers of Charm City Cakes were making a Hogwarts cake for the opening of one of the Harry Potter movies. I’d seen the episode a few times already, so I tended to the sandwiches while she watched, and the others soon joined her. I smiled and gave them their sandwiches once they were done, and we all ate lunch on the couch watching what appeared to be an ‘Ace of Cakes’ marathon.
