Ponies In Australia

Arrival (or: OMG! Ponies in My Backyard!)

My name is Pinkie Pie (Hello!)
And I am here to say (How ya doin'?)
I'm gonna make you smile, and I will brighten up your day-aaay!
It doesn't matter now (What's up?)
If you are sad or blue (Howdy!)
'Cause cheering up my friends is just what Pinkie's here to do.

I sat on my couch listening to Pinkie Pie’s smile song for the 3rd time that day. To say I was bored was an understatement, I was beginning to wish I had gone with my family on their two week trip to New Zealand, but I’d insisted on staying home. Why? I had no real idea, but I felt like I needed some time alone without my younger brother and sisters to get on my nerves, but after two days I realised I missed them.

Sighing as the song finished, I clicked the next song in my playlist, the Gala song. My cockatiel Mystery flew from his cage to perch precariously on top of my open laptop. Smiling, I rubbed his head and he seemed happy enough to let me. Mystery then hopped onto my shoulder and started chewing on my glasses as the song finished and I looked at the time, 12:19, lunch time.

As I closed my laptop I heard a noise, a strange, crackling, zappy, thunder like, loud sort of noise. It was a noise I’d never heard before, and it spooked Mystery, so he flew around the room three times then landed on his cage. That’s when I heard them, those voices, coming from the backyard…

“Wow! That was one doozy of a spell Twilight!” came a bubbly, bouncy voice, though how a voice could be bouncy I had no idea.

“It sure was, but where in Equestria are we?” came a voice with a clear Southern accent.

“I… I don’t know, we’re meant to be in Canterlot” another voice said, it sounded tired.

“Well where ever we are the weather pegasi here were really slack today, there’s meant to be clear skies throughout all of Equestria” another voice said.

Were my ear deceiving my? Was this some sort of joke? My friends knew I loved the show, a few of them did to, but would they really try and trick me like this? Curious, I glanced over the couch. Nothing. The spa, the pool, the stairs up to the small grass area… Wait! A flash of fluffy pink around the corner of the house! I ducked down as a flock of rainbow lorikeets flew over the backyard.

“Oh, I’ve never seen those birds before, I wonder what they are?” I heard a soft voice say.

“Well, they do have lovely colours in their feathers… It has given me an idea for a new dress” another voice said.

“Hey! Let’s see if there’s any pony in this strange building who can tell us where we are!” The voice I was now certain to be Pinkie Pies came again. I heard the other five voices consent to the idea and I glanced over the couch in time to see Fluttershy holding a lorikeet, Rainbow Dash hovering over the pool and Pinkie at the top of the stairs, then ducked down again. They were real and they were here! What should I do, what should I say!? If the show was anything to go by, they had no idea what a human was. Would they be scared of me if I went out to meet them? Or should I just wait on the couch for them to come inside? The screen door was unlocked; it would be a simple matter for one of them to open it, and as if on cue I heard the screen open.

“What a weird place, I wonder what that big black rectangle on the wall is for? Hey guys…” Pinkies voice fell silent, and risking a glance up I saw her staring at the large portrait of my family on the back wall. “What in Equestria are those things? Twilight? Do you know?” I heard the other ponies come in.

“What is it Pinkie… Oh, no, I’ve never seen creatures like this before, Fluttershy, have you?” Twilight said, she sounded very tired.

“No, I’ve never seen anything like them before” Fluttershy said.

“Well I must say they do have a good sense of fashion” Rarity said.

Fluttershy seemed to have just noticed Mystery as she entered my line of sight, she had yet to notice me, and her focus on my dark grey cockatiel sitting on his cage “Oh, what’s your name little birdy?” She reached out a buttery yellow hoof to him, and Mystery hopped onto it, but then dived off her hoof and flew onto the couch above where I sat. Fluttershy’s eye went wide at the sight of me, she uttered a small ‘eep’ before standing still as a statue.

Suddenly Pinkie Pie was in front of me, gasping loudly, and the other four ponies had walked over and were staring at me. “Ummm… Hi?” I said, staring back.
