The ponies weren't sure what they expected to find when they entered the laboratory, but they sure weren't prepared for what they found.

The surfaces of the room were entirely covered in flesh, forcing the ponies to walk on it to their displeasure and disgust. Many machinery and tables (all of them bloody) were spread out as well as some cocoons here and there. Every few meters, some kind of luminous organ was present among countless eye-balls and big tentacles, many of them ending in something, scissors, scalpels, claws, more eye-balls, and all kinds of other stuff. About a dozen ghosts of ponies in lab coats were present, all of them facing the entering hunters.

But the centerpiece of the room was a brain four times bigger than the head of a pony hanging from the ceiling by a very long backbone and many, many nerves. The brain itself had some mechanical parts including a telescopic red eye.

Which, right now, stared at the ponies.

Then, one of the tentacles, holding some kind of device with a screen where a flat line could be seen, moved beside the brain. Out of the device came a monotonous voice that sounded charming but was clearly artificial.

"GREETINGS."

The hunters looked warily at the brain and at the various tentacles that had dangerously turned their sharp tools toward them.

"Big Brain?" asked Apple Bloom as she eyed the brain.

"INDEED, I AM BIG BRAIN, THANATOS' HEAD SCIENTIST. AND YOU ARE THE ONES DEFYING HIM IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN."

"Eeyup. And ya're the next in our list," said Apple Bloom.

"I HAD GUESSED THAT, OR YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT IS SAD, HOWEVER, THAT WE MUST COME TO THIS. I DO NOT MEAN ANY HARM TO PONYKIND, OR TO ANY SPECIES FOR THAT MATTER."

The hunters raised an eyebrow at this. "It isn't what all the abominations we fought on the way were saying," deadpanned Applejack.

"THEY WERE SIMPLY MY CONTRIBUTION TO THANATOS. AS HIS HEAD SCIENTIST, IT IS MY DUTY TO SUPPLY HIM WITH NEW MEANS TO HAVE 'FUN' AND TO SHOW THAT HE IS THE BOSS OF THIS PLACE. IN RETURN, HE LET ME DO WHATEVER I WANT IN MY RESEARCHES AND SUPPLIES ME WITH WHAT I NEED. MY GOAL IS NOTHING EVIL, I SIMPLY WISH TO UNDERSTAND AND CONTROL DEATH SO THAT NOBODY WILL HAVE TO FEAR IT ANYMORE. THIS INCLUDES DISCOVERING A MEAN TO BRING THE DEAD BACK TO LIFE AND FOR THE LIVINGS TO BECOME IMMORTAL. YES, THIS MEANS THAT SOME LIVES MUST BE SACRIFICED, BUT IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE AND FOR REACHING THIS GOAL, THIS IS NEEDED. WE CAN'T MAKE AN OMELET WITHOUT BREAKING SOME EGGS AS SOME SAY."

Little Ghost shook her head. "Death is a part of life, Big Brain. Stopping Death would destroy the harmony of the world and cause many problems."

"i AM NOT A FOLLOWER OF 'HARMONY'. I ONLY CARE ABOUT ADVANCING. AND THE GREATEST ADVANCEMENT WOULD BE FOR OUR SPECIES TO DEFEAT DEATH. IF IT CAUSES PROBLEMS, THEN I WILL WORK TO FIX THEM. EVERY PROBLEM HAS A SOLUTION." Before the hunters could answer to this, Big Brain continued. "YOU CAN STOP TRYING TO 'TALK SOME SENSE' INTO ME, NOTHING YOU SAY WILL CHANGE MY MIND. I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU OR ANY OTHERS THINK. ESPECIALLY SIMPLE MINDED SUCH AS YOU WHO REFUSE TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS SIMPLY THE NEXT STEP TO OUR EVOLUTION. WHO SAID THAT THE CURRENT NATURAL ORDER MUST REMAIN UNCHANGED? WHO SAID THAT IT IS WRONG TO DESTROY DEATH? CELESTIA? SHE IS NOT ABSOLUTE. SHE HAS NO RIGHT TO SAY WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG. THERE IS NOTHING THAT SAYS THAT IT IS WRONG TO DO THIS. IT IS NOT WRITTEN IN THE LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE. WE CAN LIVE WITHOUT DEATH. AND IF YOU ATTEMPT TO STOP ME FROM MAKING THIS A REALITY,  AND I KNOW YOU WILL, THEN I WILL BE FORCED TO TAKE ACTION. NOT THAT I HAVE A CHOICE WITH THANATOS BREATHING DOWN MY NECK."

The closest tool-holding tentacles attacked the ponies and Little Ghost and Applejack had to work together to cut them and protect the others who could at best stab, burn, or electrify them. However, they also had to work against the very ground in which they began to sink like the poor zebra back in the dungeon, so the hunters constantly had to move their legs to avoid an horrible fate.

At the same time, the scientists also began attacking, some of them using CS guns while the others used guns that fired normal beams. And to make things worse, the cocoons broke open, unleashing all kinds of abominations encountered until now by the hunters.

The fight barely started and the hunters were already threatened of being overwhelmed, and this time, the Red Mode wouldn't save them because they still couldn't suck up the flesh enemies and the tentacles. Apple Bloom could turn into a ghost, but she wanted to keep it secret in the very probable case that Grogar was observing them.

This forced Little Ghost to unleash her great powers that she consciously conserved since they entered the basement. She sent blasts that destroyed a lot of the tentacles and the minions, leaving her friends to deal with what remained, mainly the ghost scientists. Once the number of tentacles had greatly diminished, she then turned her powers toward the brain, but thanks to the long backbone that could easily bend like a snake, it had no problems avoiding the projectiles sent toward it while it fired in return a red laser from its red eye that Little Ghost had to dodge, guessing that it could hurt her. Then, she targeted the base of the backbone, on the ceiling, only for it to reveal that it could move all over it and escape.

The tentacles revealed to be able to do the same thing as some that were too far of the ponies moved closer. Some even entered the flesh of the walls to get out a few seconds later in another place. Those tentacles used this to take the hunters by surprise by appearing right from under them and trap them. This forced the hunters to remain close to help each others in case one was caught by a tentacle.

Then, more cocoons came out of the ground and broke open, unleashing more minions for the ponies to fight. At least, by then, all the ghost scientists had already been captured (or controlled by Sweetie Belle to attack the others), so the ponies had more openings to attack the brain, but it still remained hard to hit as it didn't stop moving.

"YOU KNOW HOW TO FIGHT," said Big Brain.

It was before more tentacles came out of the walls, all holding a weapon.

"BUT I STILL HAVE A LOT IN STOCK. SOONER OR LATER, YOU WILL FALL."

Most of the weapons revealed to be laser guns, firing sweeping lasers, cruciospectro or not. The result reminded the fifteenth floor of Eternal Rest's hotel that was full of those lasers that Apple Bloom and the others had to dodge and walk, crawl, and jump around.

Of course, Little Ghost immediately used her powers to destroy most of them, only for more tentacles to take their place while more cocoons were coming out of the ground (one of them releasing the zebra from the dungeon who now possessed two scythe-like appendages).

And the tentacles that hadn't used their weapon until now began to fire. The weapons were strange coil guns that fired a number of bolts of electricity over an area. The electricity wasn't that strong, but it was really hard to dodge. Another tentacle also came out and threw a pair of dynamite sticks connected to a clock by wires. The ponies quickly ran before the dynamites exploded (killing one of the minions).

Again, Little Ghost sent blasts that destroyed many of the tentacles and their weapons.

"HOW LONG WILL YOU BE ABLE TO CONTINUE?" asked Big Brain as the destroyed tentacles were quickly replaced by others. "I ADMIT, I AM GETTING LOW ON MINIONS, BUT I STILL HAVE HUNDREDS OF WEAPONS HIDDEN UNDER YOUR HOOVES."

One of the tentacles then threw a boomerang with a ruby. However, where a normal boomerang would bounce upon contact and fall on the ground, this one not only hit Apple Bloom on the head despite her attempt to avoid it, already revealing that it was a homing boomerang, but it also went to hit Sweetie Belle and the two clones of goo before returning to the tentacle that threw it. The boomerang thankfully wasn't sharp and only stunned Apple Bloom and did nothing to Sweetie Belle, but it still caused some damage to the clones of goo.

"AS THANATOS' HEAD SCIENTIST, I WAS ALSO TASKED TO DEVELOP ALL KINDS OF WEAPONS AND TO STUDY OTHERS HE GOT HIS CLAWS ON."

Before the tentacle could throw the boomerang again, it was burned by several streams of fire from the hunters. But then, another came and threw some kind of small disco ball. The next instant, music began to play, and the ponies who were too close to it (Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetiegoo) and even the minions began dancing against their will.

"What?!" shouted Apple Bloom.

"Hey! I can't stop dancing!" shouted Scootaloo.

"THANKS TO HIS POWERS, THANATOS CAN GO INTO OTHER DIMENSIONS WHICH ARE FULL OF INTERESTING ITEMS AND WEAPONS SUCH AS THIS ONE THAT FORCES ANYONE CLOSE ENOUGH TO IT TO DANCE," said Big Brain as one of the tentacles holding a laser gun targeted Apple Bloom. "MAKING THEM VULNERABLE."

Apple Bloom was barely saved by Applejack lassoing her from out of range of the disco ball.

«What kind of weapon is that?» asked Twilight.

«I don't know, but it's effective,» said E. Gadd.

But then, a winged spiked blue shell was thrown by another tentacle and flew right at Applejack who barely had time to throw her sister away before she was hit, the shell creating a big blue explosion that sent the mare flying.

«Hey! That was a Spiny Shell!» said Mario.

Just at this moment, the disco ball exploded, freeing Scootaloo and Sweetiegoo who got their revenge by firing fire balls at the brain which was, by now, starting to have some visible damage from all the projectiles it took.

Again, Little Ghost sent energy blasts to destroy many of the tentacles, including one that was holding some kind of golden ball with a cross, making it drop and roll away.

But by now, Little Ghost was getting tired. She used a lot of energy since the beginning of this fight.

More tentacles replaced the ones destroyed, including one that possessed some red weapon shaped like a fireball that revealed to be a flame thrower.

"IT IS A MATTER OF TIME. I STILL HAVE A LOT OF ENERGY, BUT SOME OF YOU ARE REACHING THEIR LIMIT," said Big Brain. "DID YOU REALLY EXPECT-"

He was suddenly interrupted by Little Ghost destroying the device he used to talk.

"Shut up."

Without the device, everypony hoped that Big brain couldn't talk anymore, but he revealed that he could still talk from the brain. However, the words that came out were garbled, barely understandable, and gave chill.

A tentacle then came out of the flesh and placed some round, pyramidal device with a hole on the front of the brain.

Then, as the brain faced Little Ghost, the device began to emit light from the hole.

But just before he could demonstrate his device, Grogar came out of the ceiling and snatched the device before flying away.

"W̷̮͋̋h̸̢̥͙͇̠͓̙̯̼͑̐̒̀̒̀̆̔̎a̸̠͇͚̯̿t̵͓̜̿?̴̛͙̘͇̪͎͍̟̺̎̄͂̔̚!̸̛̟̪̀̀͂͊͗͋̈́" shouted Big Brain.

Once he judged he was far enough, Grogar faced the brain and smirked.

"Took your time, but I finally got it. Now, you won't be able to get more power."

"Y̶̢̝͓̖̿̑͝o̶͚̠̝͈͈̞̝̾̽ṳ̸̮̘̘̣̿͗͛̓̈́͊̂͝.̵̩̯̬̤̳̤̽̏̆͑͘.̶̯̀́̒̾̄̕.̷̖̹̩̱̼̽̐̃͆̕͜͜!̶̜̔͗̔̑̆"

While Big Brain was busy, Apple Bloom approached the golden ball with the cross that had been dropped earlier and took it, wondering how it worked and what it did. By now, the totality of Big Brain's eye-balls in the room were destroyed, so he didn't see her as the brain had its back turned toward her.

Having a hunch, she took the cross and successfully pulled it off, and the golden ball began to emit a ssssss.

Understanding what it was, she quickly threw the ball at the brain. A "HAAALLELUJAH!" suddenly came out of nowhere, getting Big Brain's attention.

But it was too late.

The ball, or rather, the bomb exploded, taking with it the brain and a good chunk of the room.

And all the tentacles stopped moving.

Everypony jumped in joy, but the fight wasn't over yet. The brain was destroyed, but Big Brain himself was still there. He just lost his envelope.

The cloud caused by the explosion cleared, revealing a white earth pony stallion with a messy black mane and round glasses.

A very enraged earth pony who began to send bolts of electricity in all directions, causing havoc all over the room. Despite the electricity, the ponies attacked by firing Poltergun beams, Big Brain now being vulnerable. Still, the stallion resisted the pain and retaliated with shockwaves and thrown objects.

Behind his back, Grogar traversed the ground and came back with another disco ball. The ponies saw this and moved away of the doctor before Grogar threw the ball. A different music played, but the result was the same. Big Brain began to dance, leaving him open without being able to do anything in return excepted curse.

Once Grogar judged that Big Brain was weakened enough, and before the disco ball stopped, he placed the Absorber on his chest and activated it (it had a mental activation). Like before, a light emitted from the hole of the device, and out of it came a beam of light that hit the scientist. Big Brain could do nothing but watch as his powers were stolen and absorbed by the ram.

Then, the disco ball exploded, and the ponies could finally approach to finish the job. Knowing that he had no chance, Big Brain attempted to escape, but he was stopped by Grogar who used his recovered necromancy power to force him to not move.

And so, he was easily captured by Apple Bloom.

And a golden key with a draconequus skull appeared.

But before the ponies could grab it, Grogar turned the Absorber toward Little Ghost and activated it again. Before it could fire the beam of light, Apple Bloom turned herself into a ghost.

"Wha-"

Apple Bloom suddenly teleported just in front of Grogar, punched him on the muzzle with all the energy she could gather around her hoof, and at the same time, snatched the Absorber as Grogar was sent flying.

As the ram recovered from the punch and stared at Apple Bloom in rage, the other hunters fired at him. Grogar however resisted the pain and attacked Apple Bloom with powerful projectiles of energy that the filly countered in the same way, resulting in the projectiles exploding on each others.

When the smoke cleared, he was surprised to see Apple Bloom charging at him, and before he could act, the filly activated her Poltergust.

In Red Mode.

Grogar still was able to resist and used his powers to attempt to free himself, failing. In the end, Apple Bloom had to stop as her Poltergust was about to overheat, and she also had to return to normal. But as Grogar had been busy with Apple Bloom, the others had taken the occasion to approach and take over.

But Grogar then got the good idea of escaping by moving through the floor.

It was so simple and effective that it was surprising that no ghost did the same thing before.

Grogar came out at the opposite side of the room and gathered a lot of energy into a big ball that he sent at the group of hunters. They ran away in an attempt to escape, but the ball exploded upon contact with the ground and they were all caught in the explosion which sent them flying and crashing against the wall.

At least, the walls being made of flesh cushioned them, even if it was still disgusting.

The ponies quickly recovered and restarted firing Poltergun beams at the ram who materialized a shield to defend himself. Seeing this, Scootaloo turned into a scooter and quickly rolled to approach Grogar, getting his attention on her as he attempted to stop her from approaching.

The others used this occasion to disperse in the room to avoid being all hit again if Grogar decided to use another giant explosive ball, and also to ensure that, if Grogar flew away again, then there would always be somepony close enough to attack him directly within a few seconds.

As Scootaloo got close, Grogar attempted to keep the distance, but she really was too fast. She eventually close enough to turn back to normal and activate her Poltergust, but she was rapidly stopped by a shockwave sending her flying.

Grogar then flew to an end of the room and used his power to create a powerful tornado that he sent to sweep the room, the tornado attracting what remained of the machines and tables and sending them flying in all directions. At least, the ponies ran far enough in the sides of the room to avoid the same fate, but they still had to avoid the objects sent flying by the tornado.

All the while, Apple Bloom kept an eye on the countdown before she could become a ghost again.

By the time she could transform again, not much had changed as Grogar continued to attack and the ponies continued to dodge as best as they could while attempting to weaken him. With Little Ghost still tired from the battle against Big Brain and the others starting to feel drained, the timing really was perfect.

As a ghost, Apple Bloom unleashed her full power on Grogar and forced him to keep all his attention on her, giving the others the occasion to approach him and attempt to suck him up. But again, Grogar escaped by the floor.

But when he came out, he got the bad surprise of seeing the Absorber placed on Apple bloom's chest, under the Spectral Transmograftizer, activated and ready to fire the beam of light.

Before he could do anything, he was caught again in the vortex of Little Ghost's Poltergust.

And so, he could do nothing to avoid being hit by the Absorber's beam of light.

And his powers were absorbed by Apple Bloom.

Powerless again, Grogar was then captured by Little Ghost.

Finally, it was over, and the hunters used the calm to recover and celebrate their victory over Big Brain and Grogar.

And Apple Bloom decided to keep the Absorber thinking that it will be very useful against Thanatos.
