Turquoise woke up ready to challenge the Viridian City Gym. As she was heading out the others also woke up.
“ Are you off to the gym already?” Twilight asked.
“ I can’t wait any longer, I'm too excited,” Turquoise said.
“ Well calm down the gym is not going anywhere so you have plenty of time to eat,” Applejack said.
“ Besides, the gym leader also needs time to get ready,” Rarity said. After eating breakfast the girls left for the gym. The guy from last time recognized Turquoise.
“ Haven’t seen you in a long time. How many badges do you have now?” The man asked.
“ Seven,” Turquoise said.
“ Then welcome to the Viridian City Gym,” The man said before the doors opened. What surprised the group was Serena on the other side of the door.
“ Good to see you, girls, again,” Serena said.
“ Serena? What are you doing here?” Twilight asked.
“ I am the gym Leader’s wife so naturally, I would live here with him,” Serena said. “ But enough about that let me show you around. Serena showed the girls around the gym until they stopped on a bridge overlooking a huge habitat with a lot of pokemon roaming free. “ And this is the place where my husband and I keep all of our pokemon.
“ This place is huge,” Rainbow said.
“ When my husband took over this gym he wanted a place to keep all of the pokemon he caught on his many journeys,” Serena said before they moved on to the battlefield. As soon as they arrived a familiar face was standing on the other side. Turquoise recognized this person as Ash
“ I have been waiting for you Turquoise,” Ash said.
“ Ash? You’re the Gym Leader?” Turquoise said in surprise.
“ Sure am. When the pokemon league officials approached me with this offer I took it so I may help others with their journey,” Ash said. “ Now then I believe you girls came for a gym battle.
“ That’s right so who is going first?” Rainbow asked.
“ I already decided I was going to challenge Turquoise first since I want to see how far she has come,” Ash said.
“ Very well,” Turquoise said as she took her position on the opposite side of the field and one of the gym trainers took the ref’s spot.
“ The battle between Ash the gym Leader and Turquoise the challenger will now begin. Both trainers will use five pokemon and the battle will be over when all of one trainer’s pokemon are unable to battle. Furthermore, only the challenger is allowed to substitute pokemon,” The ref said.
“ Got it,” Turquoise said.
“ Right,” Ash said.
“ Battle begin,” The ref said.
“ Gengar I chose you,” Ash said as he threw his Pokeball which popped open and unleashed a purple shadow creature with red eyes that started to laugh mischievously as Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex.
“ Gengar. The shadow Pokemon. It is said to emerge from darkness to steal the lives of those who become lost in mountains,” The Pokedex said. Turquoise thought carefully about who to send out and then made her decision.
“ Come on out my friend,” Turquoise said as she threw her Pokeball which popped open and unleashed Flygon.
“ Interesting choice,” Ash said. “ But let’s see how your Flygon handles this. Gengar use Ice Punch. Gengar disappeared and then reappeared in front of Flygon before hitting her with a fist covered in ice blue energy. The punch caused Flygon to transform into Zoroark. “ I see you faked me out with your Zoroark’s illusion ability, not bad but not good enough. Gengar use Ice Punch again. Gengar tried to use the same punch from before but Turquoise was ready for it.
“ Zoroark use Night Daze while spinning. Zoroark spun around on her tiptoe while using Night Daze which turned it into a waveform that not only trapped Gengar but knocked him around each time he hit the Night Daze. Ash remembered this technique from his days traveling through the Sinnoh Region. Gengar was still being knocked around until he fainted.
“ Gengar is unable to battle Zoroark is the winner,” The ref said as he pointed his right flag at Turquoise.
“ Gengar return,” Ash said as he recalled Gengar. “ You battled nicely. I must say I wasn’t expecting you to use a counter shield. Where did you learn how to do that?
“ From watching Dawn during a town festival three years ago,” Turquoise said.
“ Interesting fact she was the one who inspired me to come up with it,” Ash said.
“ You invented it, that's cool,” Turquoise said.
“ If the two of you are done talking may we resume the battle?” The ref said.
“ Oh right sorry about that,” Ash said before pulling out his second Pokeball. “ Heracross I choose you. Ash threw his second Pokeball which popped open and unleashed a blue beetle-like pokemon. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex once again.
“ Heracross. The Single Horn Pokemon. Heracross loves sweet sap and will go looking through forests for it. The Pokémon uses its two antennae to pick up scents as it searches,” The Pokedex said.
“ This could be bad. Zoroark return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Zoroark.
“ Why did she pull Zoroark out? She was just warming up,” Rainbow asked.
“ Turquoise made the right call switching out,” Twilight said. “ You see Rainbow Heracross is a bug and fighting-type. A dark-type like Zoroark would be at a major disadvantage.
“ Go Corviknight,” Turquoise said as she called out her Corviknight.
“ Good choice however it takes more than type advantage to win. Heracross use Horn Attack. Heracross flew like a bullet with his horn glowing and managed to inflict decent damage. “ Now use Focus Punch. Heracross’s fist was covered in white energy.
“ Loop around and use Drill Peck. Corviknight did a loop and managed to nail Heracross with a Drill Peck which stopped the Focus Punch.
“ Not bad but we are not done yet,” Ash said as Heracross was covered in a moss green aura which indicated the swarm ability has been activated. “ Heracross use MegaHorn. Heracross took off at top speed with his horn glowing light green and extending.
“ Corviknight use Drill Peck. Corviknight charged at Heracross with his Drill Peck. The two pokemon collided and pushed against each other. Just when it looked like Heracross was going to win Corviknight pushed harder and managed to send Heracross falling face-first onto the battlefield.
“ Heracross is unable to battle Corviknight is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.
“ Heracross return,” Ash said as he recalled Heracross. “ You were amazing now rest. I must say knocking out two of my pokemon without losing any of yours is not bad.
“ Thanks,” Turquoise said.
“ However, playtime is over. Charizard I choose you,” Ash said as he called out his Charizard.
“ Can you keep going Corviknight?” Turquoise asked with Corviknight nodding yes. “ Then use Hone Claws. Corviknight sharpened his claws which raised his attack and accuracy stats.
“ That won,t work. Charizard use Flamethrower. Charizard unleashed his Flamethrower and managed to nail Corviknight for a great amount of damage.
“ Corviknight keep using Hone Claws while dodging. Corviknight kept using Hone Claws while dodging the Flamethrower until he maxed out his attack and Accuracy. “ Now use Power Trip. Corviknight’s wings were covered in a black aura as he flew straight for Charizard.
“ We won't lose that easily. Charizard use Dragon Claw. Charizard’s claws were covered in blue energy as he and Corviknight clashed with each other. As soon as both moves hit an explosion covered the field. When the smoke cleared Corviknight was the one who fainted.
“ Corviknight is unable to battle Charizard is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his left flag at Ash.
“ Corviknight return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Corviknight. “ You did an excellent job now. Turquoise took a moment to think over her next choice and then made it. “ Zoroark come on out. Turquoise sent Zoroark back into the battle.
“ So you’re going with Zoroark again, interesting,” Ash said.
“ Zoroark use Night Slash. Zorark’s claws glowed with dark energy before slashing at Charizard. “ Now use Knock Off. Zoroark slammed her arm down on Charizard which caused him to hit the ground.
“ Charizard use Overheat. Charizard’s body turned red before unleashing a powerful blast of fire that engulfed Zoroark and caused her to faint.
“ Zoroark is unable to battle Charizard is the winner,” the ref said as he pointed his left flag at Ash.
“ Zoroark return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Zoroark. “ You were great now take a good rest. Turquoise took a moment to think about what would work best against Charizard and then made her choice. “ Go Flygon. Turquoise threw her Pokeball which popped open and unleashed Flygon.
“ Not a bad choice,” Ash said.
“ Thanks,” Turquoise said.
“ But that does not mean we will lose to you. Charizard use Dragon Claw. Charizard charged at Flygon with his claws glowing which did not faze Turquoise.
“ Dodge and use Dragon Breath. Flygon managed to fly back before Charizard could swipe his claws at her and then unleashed her Dragon Breath from point-blank range which not only sent Charizard crashing into the ground but to also faint.
“ Charizard is unable to battle Flygon is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.
“ Charizard return,” Ash said as he recalled his Charizard. “ You were amazing as always not rest. I must say you are quite formidable.
“ Thanks, I always try to be,” Turquoise said.
“ But can you handle my next Pokemon?” Ash asked.
“ Bring it,” Turquoise said.
“ Glalie I choose you,” Ash said as he threw his Pokeball and unleashed Glalie. “ Glalie lets start with Ice Beam. Glalie began building up energy between his horns and then fired a beam of ice at Flygon.
“ Use Dragon Breath. Flygon unleashed her Dragon Breath which collided with the Ice Beam and caused both moves to explode and cover the field in a layer of smoke. “ Now use Earthquake. Flygon landed on the ground hard which shook the whole battlefield and dealt some serious damage to Glalie.
“ Glalie use Blizzard. Glalie unleashed a powerful Blizzard from his mouth that not only cleared the smoke but also managed to wipe Flygon out in a single attack.
“ Flygon is unable to battle Glalie is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his left flag at Ash.
“ Flygon return,” Turquoise said while recalling Flygon. “ You were awesome out there now rest. Turquoise wasted no time in calling out her fourth pokemon. “ Go Ninetails. As soon as Ninetails appeared on the battlefield her Drought ability went into effect and covered the field in Sunny Day status.
“ Your Ninetails knows the Drought Ability?” Ash asked.
“ She sure does,” Turquoise said.
“ Regardless it will take more than that to beat me. Glalie use Headbutt while spinning. Glalie spun around while charging at Ninetails.
“ Ninetails use Flamethrower while spinning. Ninetails leaped into the air and spun around while using Flamethrower which formed a counter shield around Glalie who despite using a spinning headbutt was now being knocked around like a ping pong ball before fainting.
“ Glalie is unable to battle Ninetails is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.
“ Glalie return,” Ash said as he recalled Glalie. “ You did great, now rest. It's been awhile since anyone has pushed us this far. I hope you are ready.
“ Bring it,” Turquoise said.
“ Pikachu I choose you,” Ash said as Pikachu ran onto the battlefield.
“ That’s it? A Pikachu? That’s your ace in the hole?” Turquoise said not impressed.
“ Don,t underestimate my buddy. We have been through a lot over the years and many times he came through for me in battle,” Ash said.
“ We shall see. Ninetails use Flamethrower. Ninetails unleashed her Flamethrower which Ash was expecting.
“ Pikachu use Thunderbolt. Pikachu unleashed his Thunderbolt which collided with the Flamethrower and overpowered it thus nailing Ninetails for a good amount of damage.
“ Not bad but we are not out yet. Ninetails use Fire Blast. Ninetails unleashed her Fire Blast which was heading for Pikachu.
“ Pikachu use Electro Web to block it. Pikachu leaped into the air and unleashed a ball made of electricity from his tail before it turned into a web that not only blocked the Fire Blast but also extinguished it.
“ I had no idea Electro Web could be used like that,” Turquoise said.
“ Sometimes when using moves you have to think outside the box. That's the way I battle,” Ash said. “ Pikachu use Electro Web on the ground. Pikachu unleashed his Electro Web on the battlefield which created a huge web on the ground that Ninetails had the misfortune of getting caught in and ended up getting slower. “ Now use Quick Attack. Pikachu took off like a bullet.
“ Ninetails use Extrasensory. Ninetails tried to use her move but was too slow and ended up getting nailed for enough damage to faint.
“ Ninetails is unable to battle Pikachu is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his left flag at Ash.
“ Ninetails return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Ninetails. “ You battled awesomely now rest. I must say that is some Pikachu.
“ Glad to see you recognize my buddy’s strength,” Ash said.
“ But that does not mean we will give up,” Turquoise said as she pulled out her final Pokeball. “ Go Venusaur. After popping out of his Pokeball Venusaur landed onto the Battlefield and shook Pikachu off balance.
“ The bigger they are the harder they fall. Pikachu use Thunderbolt. Pikachu fired his signature attack at Venusaur who waited for Turquoise’s command.
“ Venusaur use Petal Blizzard. Venusaur unleashed his Petal Blizzard which not only blocked the Thunderbolt but also dealt some damage to Pikachu. “ Now use Sludge Bomb. Venusaur fired a blob of poison at Pikachu which Ash was expecting.
“ Pikachu use Iron Tail on that Sludge Bomb. Pikachu’s tail turned to metal before he used it on the Sludge bomb to not only stop it in its tracks but to also propel himself into the air by using it as a springboard. “ Now use Quick Attack from above. Pikachu bounced off the ceiling and managed to nail Venusaur from above.
“ Shake him off Venusaur. Venusaur tried to shake Pikachu off but he was holding on tightly.
“ Now use Thunderbolt. Pikachu managed to zap Venusaur with enough power to inflict a ton of damage. Suddenly Venusaur’s Overgrow went into effect.
“ Venusaur use Petal Blizzard. Venusaur unleashed his Petal Blizzard with all he had which managed to send Pikachu flying. After landing Pikachu looked tired but still able to battle.
“ Pikachu let’s end this with Quick Attack. Pikachu charged at Venusaur as fast as he could only for Turquoise to react.
“ Lets win this with our new move. Use Frenzy Plant. Venusaur slammed his front legs onto the ground and managed to summon a bunch of thorny roots that not only blocked the Quick Attack but also slammed Pikachu for a ton of damage which knocked him out.
“ Pikachu is unable to battle Venusaur wins the match which means the winner is Turquoise the challenger,” The ref said as he pointed his right flag at Turquoise.
“ We did it, we won,” Turquoise said as she hugged Venusaur. Ash walked up to Pikachu and picked him up.
“ That was a lot of fun,” Ash said as Pikachu climbed up to his shoulder. Ash approached Turquoise after she recalled her Venusaur. “ Turquoise this was one of the best battles I had in years and as proof of your victory here at the Viridian City Gym I present you with the Earth badge. Ash gave Turquoise a green badge shaped like a feather.
“ Thanks,” Turquoise said as she placed the Earth Badge in her case.
“ That was your eighth badge now right?” Ash asked.
“ Sure was,” Turquoise said.
“ That means you now qualify for the Pokemon League which is being held at the Indigo Plateau in three weeks,” Ash said.
“ So now that you have all eight badges, what are you planning to do next?” Twilight asked.
“ After I heal my Pokemon I’m going home to do some training with my other Pokemon,” Turquoise said.
“ Then we shall meet you at your place once we are done here,” Rainbow said. Turquoise returned to the Pokemon Center and after healing her Pokemon left for Route one. After walking for almost an hour Turquoise made it home. As soon as she opened the door a Yamper started barking at her. Turquoise’s mom came to see what the commotion was about and was surprised to see Turquoise back from her journey.
“ Turquoise so glad you made it back. How was your journey?” Turquoise’s mom asked.
“ It was great. I just won my eighth badge,” Turquoise said before asking about Yamper.
“ With you gone I felt lonely and luckily I rescued this little guy from an abusive monster,” Turquosie’s mom said.
“ I know what you mean mom. Trainers like that make me sick,” Turquoise said. After telling her mom about her journey Turquoise went to her room to call it a day.
