Demons of Equestria

Memories

Waking the demon inside of Equestria.

Emotions swirled.
Anger swelled.
All the emotions, sadness, anger, grief, all the emotions that create strife wherever they go, they wake.
They wake, in the demons of war.
What’s to say that anypony likes war?
Nopony does. But when war breaks out in Equestria, the bear is poked. The usual peace-loving ponies strike out, and show their full might.
Ponies should never go to war. It’s directly against their own code.
But what choice did they have? The nations were the ones who gathered against them in an almighty effort to throw the ponies down underfoot.
The unicorns, who used to use their magic, to levitate food, items and help others. Now, their magic is used for war, wielding blades, and casting spells that would kill an enemy. I ask you, is this right?
A certain lavender pony who loved her friends. She was hailed as the strongest unicorn before her ascension. Because of this reason, she was called to war. With her power, she rained devastation upon her enemies. She never liked it. Her alter ego did. It never came out before, because she had no reason to carry hate in her heart. But when a friend close to her was struck down, what other emotion could she carry? And thus, the Midnight in her was awakened.
The earth ponies, who loved farming. All they wanted was to carry on what their ancestors did, and tend their land to feed the country. But when war breaks out, they are called to be soldiers. They bring their ancient warplates out, and their blacksmiths’ hammer all night to bring armour and weapons to the frontlines. None of them liked it, but they did it all the same.
Earth ponies had an affinity with certain abilities. With their abilities, they hardened their skin, and charged into battle. They didn’t like to kill. But to protect their families, they would do anything.
One of the foremost earth pony families served the war effort. With their entire family, they sent resources and food to the frontlines. Two of their strongest members were sent to the frontlines. A sister, and her brother. They donned the plates of war, and attacked the enemies with the frontline soldiers. With their indomitable strength, and courage, they defended their comrades and brought glory. Sadly, when they returned home, they were scarred. Never again would they tend the land with their opened eyes.
Pegasi were the crucial part in the war. They used to control the weather to give the ponies of Equestria the weather they needed. Now they used their wings to create thunderstorms, tornados, and many different natural weather disasters. It went against their code. Only when their comrades fell to the griffins, they were aroused.
A prismatic pegasus took to the skies. In her heart, sang grief. One of her closest friends fell the day before. She could not stay put and mourn. On that day, she poured her everything into that one action. With one flap, she created a storm that was bigger than anything a single pony had ever done. She sought out her friend’s killers. With tears in her eyes, she poured all her speed into the storm. With a singular boom, the storm devastated the enemy camps. The pegasus was seen speeding off into the distance, after the storm dissipated, towards a lone cottage on the horizon, dotted by animals of all kinds.
The leaders of the nation, the alicorns. Centuries of boiling water for tea when they knew they could boil the seas. Of lifting quills for tax laws when they could lift mountains. Or breaking wax seals when they knew, they could break anything they pleased.
With their powers, they could kill thousands. They called upon the celestial bodies and rained death upon their enemies. But it was not enough. The enemies had their weapon against this.
The tricksters, the shapeshifters. Without a queen, they were easily controlled through their hive mind. The enemies had their own spellcasters. The tricksters stole into pony encampments, and slaughtered hundreds by the night. It was said that one almost killed the night. When the sun found the shapeshifter, it was told that not a single one of them survived the hellfire that was brought upon.
War never helped anypony. It certainly never gave joy to any of them. The elements of harmony, represented by six ponies, were broken. One of their numbers was taken. They cried out in grief and anger. Their draconic friend was maddened. The enemies did not realise that there was a second way to induce growth. Grief. The maddened dragon grew into great heights, and crushed his enemies underfoot. The five ponies, out for revenge, came together. With their abilities to support each other, and know each other’s moves, they rained their anger upon the enemies.
After several long years of grief, sorrow, death, and pain. The war ended. But did it truly end?
The ponies of Equestria were scarred. Now they knew that their abilities were not only for simple purposes. They were made for war.
The enemies of Equestria were almost wiped out. Now they knew. Poke the bear of Equestria, and a dragon roars back in retaliation.
For Equestria, they were made for war.
