//------------------------------// // 283. Best Days // Story: Azure Edge // by Leaf Blade //------------------------------// Twilight’s top priority during her first day out of bed in what felt like twenty years was to spend time with her son, who she had kept brushing to the side because of other things she needed to deal with, and she felt just awful about it. But that said, she had promised Rainbow Dash and Applejack that she’d let them give her the tour of the Crystal Empire, and while Applejack was off with Rarity and their families, Rainbow was still eager to go out with Twilight and the feeling was more than mutual. So naturally, she found herself wandering the Empire with both of them, her brain tearing itself apart over whether she should be in Mom mode or Girlfriend mode, because she honestly had no clue how to do both at once. What made matters even more stressful on Twilight’s brain was once the three had sat down in a booth in a buffet style restaurant, Rainbow and Spike engaged each other in lively conversation about the Daring Do books, specifically the newest book in the series, which Twilight hadn't had much chance to read yet. It wasn’t even a matter of spoilers or anything, Twilight didn’t mind that so much since she tended to read books in a manner of dissecting them and evaluating how well she felt they told their story and how Twilight would have done things differently, which spoilers didn’t ruin in any way. No, it was just that… Twilight missed the library so much. “Hey, Twi,” Rainbow said as she noticed Twilight flopping her chin down onto the table, “are you okay?” “Yeah, she looks perfect, Rainbow,” Spike said drolly. “Well you know what I mean,” Rainbow balked, getting all flustered. It was cute. Rainbow was cute in general. “Do you two ever miss the library?” Twilight asked, feeling a little too melancholy to phrase her question in an elegant manner. “Of course,” Rainbow said immediately. “Yeah, all the time,” Spike added with a sad nod. “Sometimes I worry,” Twilight sighed, and then chuckled, “which I know, very unusual of me. But sometimes I worry that my best days are behind me. The library was so good, and I worry that I’ll never be able to recapture that sense of joy and peace ever again that I had there.” “Yeah, I getcha,” Rainbow said and draped a comforting wing over Twilight’s back. Rainbow’s wings were shockingly soft considering Rainbow’s personality and lifestyle, and feeling them on her skin never failed to make her smile. “But I tell ya what, our time we spent together at the library was awesome. But I wouldn’t trade the time since for anything in the world. “And I mean all of it, from the time you ate me to save me from Trixie, to the way you’ve been slowly teaching me how to do magic, to all the times we’ve spent smooching or cuddling or just hanging out. I love you, Twilight, and I could never feel like our best days are behind us, cuz every day I spend with you is the best.” “Rainbow Dash,” Twilight blubbered, falling even more in love with her darling blue pegasus than she even thought was possible, Rainbow putting her arm around Twilight and holding her close enough for the two to smoosh cheeks. “Dang, Rainbow,” Spike chuckled, “that was really smooth. I oughtta take notes.” “Just speakin’ from the heart,” Rainbow shrugged. “That’s the way you gotta do it. I spent way too much time hiding my feelings cuz I was embarrassed or worried about how people might react or whatever, and that turned out to be a huge waste of time. And I’ll always be grateful to Twilight, and Rarity, and Applejack, and the others for teaching me that.” “Rainbow, you are a saint,” Twilight sighed affectionately, “and I love you.” “Love you too, babe,” Rainbow pulled Twilight in again and smooched her on the lips, Twilight buzzing and getting all giddy and stuff. “Twilight, here’s what I think,” Spike said, Twilight giving him her attention. “The library was great, and we had a great time there. Those memories are gonna stick with me forever, for sure. But the best part about it? Was that it led us to meeting Rarity and Rainbow and everyone else. Back in the library, it was still just you and me, but now it’s you and me and everyone, and that’s way better if you ask me.” “And you’re not terribly upset with me,” Twilight asked sheepishly, “cuz I can’t always pay attention to you?” “Pffft, of course not,” Spike scoffed and batted his hands. “I want you to be happy, Twilight.” “I am happy,” Twilight said, nuzzling against Rainbow Dash, who returned the favor with aplomb. “Good! And y’know what would make me happy?” Spike asked, not waiting for anyone to answer before he answered his own question. “Grabbing some grub! So gee I guess that means you two will be here all by yourselves for a hot second, WINK.” “C’mon, Spike,” Twilight grumbled and playfully rolled her eyes, Spike chuckling as he departed the booth and headed for the buffet. “I mean, what does he think is gonna happen?” Twilight asked, looking at Rainbow. “That we’re just gonna start making out under the table the second we’re alone together?” Rainbow blinked, and Twilight smiled cluelessly. Before she knew it, she was making out with Rainbow Dash under the table, pressed against the floor and panting as Rainbow absolutely ravished her with kisses. Stars, Rainbow Dash was so hot, and if they weren’t in a public place with Twilight’s son nearby, her pants would already have been off. She would just have to settle for Rainbow putting her hands down them, which she did, and Twilight made the most embarrassingly squeal of delight as Rainbow started fondling her. Twilight’s life detection spell she picked up from Fluttershy pinged her that Spike was headed back to their table though, so she agonizingly tore herself away from Rainbow and climbed back up to the booth, sitting up like a responsible adult next to Rainbow Dash, whose lipstick had been smeared on her lips. Twilight hadn't even noticed she’d been wearing lipstick, but then she looked down and saw it stained all over her chest and WOW did she feel gay about that. “Sorry, Spike, we were just—” Twilight paused as she looked at the child standing beside their table, staring daggers directly into Twilight’s eyes. It wasn’t Spike. It was the assassin from the Neighagra Falls Inn.
