//------------------------------// // Interlude I // Story: Love Story // by LunaEclipsed15 //------------------------------// Sunset had been asleep most of the flight home from their vacation in Hawai’i, but now she was wide awake. Twilight was crying as she tried to keep a level head and all Sunset could do was hold her as tightly as possible. She knew her fears were justified! The rest of the girls had made fun of her, but now that it was happening to them she knew she had been scared for real. As their plane barreled towards the pacific ocean, Sunset knew they were all going to die. A plane crash was rare to survive from. A plane crash into the ocean was even rarer. The only thing keeping her from dissociating and zoning out until she died was Twilight’s death tight grip on her. This wasn’t how she wanted to go. She wanted to live a happy life with Twilight. She wanted to get married, maybe adopt a kid or to, stop working for shit grocery stores in between classes and find a real job. She wanted to use the art degree she had spent four years and tens of thousands of dollars to get. She didn’t want to go like this. She was only 22, she was too young. “I love you. I always have,” Twilight sobbed into her fiancee. Her fiancee, who now will never be her wife. “I have too. Ever since the Friendship Games. Maybe even before that, when you showed up at the school to investigate the portal. I love you baby.” Sunset was crying now too. Fluttershy was curled up into the tightest ball she could be to Twilight’s right, Rainbow and Applejack were clutching each other in a similar fashion to Sunset and Twilight behind them. Rarity and Pinkie were the only two in a position that was supposed to protect them. “At least we get to die together,” Twilight let out a watery laugh. “I didn’t even tell my dad I loved him the last time we talked,” she suddenly cried, wailing into Sunset’s chest. The fall was agonizingly slow and way too fast all at the same time. All Sunset could do was hold Twilight, cry, and accept her death. Princess Twilight and Sunset’s family would never know what happened to them. Cheese was losing his girlfriend just a year after he had gained her. Everyone’s families were losing their brightest lights. They would never again go to one of Pinkie’s parties, or model clothes for rarity, or go one on one with Rainbow, or help at the shelter with Fluttershy. She wondered what their families would do to honor them. She couldn’t imagine what she would do if she had lost Twilight. At least they were dying together. A fire began to spread through the cabin as they hit the water. Sunset was shocked she didn’t die on impact. In her arms, Twilight went limp and stopped crying. She rushed to move her hand, to find a pulse, but felt herself blacking out before she could do anything. “Sunset! Sunny!” Sunset heard her name being called as she was being shaken by the shoulder. She groggily blinked her eyes open, groaning. She looked to the source of the voice to see Twilight, safe and smiling. “You were crying in your sleep. You okay?” she asked, concern seeping into her tone. “Are-” Sunset coughed. “-are we safe?” She sat up slowly, looking around. People were standing up and getting their carry-ons out of the overhead bins. “Of course we are. We just landed at LAX.” Twilight shook her head with a laugh. “Oh, I had a dream that we crashed on the way home.” Tears filled Sunset’s eyes. “You-you died in my arms, Twi.” Twilight reached up and gently caressed Sunset’s face, running her thumb under her eyes to catch her tears. “Well that didn’t happen, and we’re safe. Come on, we need to get our stuff.” Twilight leaned forward and softly kissed her. Sunset melted into the kiss, still shaken from her nightmare. Feeling Twilight’s lips pressed up against hers, tasting like raspberry lip balm, it helped solidify the fact that this was real, and not just death playing a cruel joke on her. Twilight grabbed her hands, pulling her out of her seat and reaching up to get their backpacks from the overhead bin. Twilight lifted her hand to show Sunset her ring. “See this? It’s real. I’m real. We’re safe. And even if we weren’t, there’s nobody’s arms I’d rather die in than yours.” Sunset could stare at that smile all day. The reassuring one that made her feel safe and warm and totally in love. Suddenly Rainbow Dash’s voice cut through their thoughts. “Hey lovebirds! Let’s get this moving!” Rainbow pushed past them as they laughed, intertwining their hands together as they made their way after her towards the exit of the plane.
