After walking for over an hour the girls finally arrive in Fuchsia City. After reaching the Pokemon Center Turquoise decided to make a call to Professor Oak. After dialing the number and waiting for a few seconds Professor Oak appeared on screen.

“ Ah Turquoise so good to see you again,” Professor Oak said.

“ Nice to see you too Professor Oak,” Turquoise said.

“ What can I do for you?” Professor Oak asked.

“ I would like for you to send me my Corviknight please,” Turquoise said.

“ Sure thing and who will you be exchanging for him this time?” Professor Oak asked. Turquoise thought over who would be best for this Gym Battle and made her choice.

“ My Zoroark,” Turquoise said.

“ Sure thing you know what to do,” Professor Oak said as Turquoise placed Zoroark’s Pokeball on the tray while Professor Oak did the same on his end. After the swap was completed Turquoise thanked Professor Oak before hanging up.

“ So who will you be using for the battle?” Twilight asked.

“ Well you told me, Janine uses Poison-types so I just had Professor Oak send over my Corviknight and I also have my Vibrava and Espeon too,” Turquoise said.

“ But remember to also consider the secondary typing of her pokemon,” Rainbow said.

“ I know but enough talking about my strategy we need to find out where the gym is,” Turquoise said.

“ I can take you five there,” A familiar voice said before it was revealed to be Akane.

“ Akane so good to see you again. How is your training going?” Turquoise asked.

“ Janine is a tough master but I am learning a lot from her,” Akane said. After finishing catching up Akane had the girls follow her to what looked like a Japanese style mansion.

“ This is the Fuchsia City Gym it looks more like a mansion,” Rainbow said.

“ First lesson master Koga taught me. Things aren’t always as they appear,” Akane said as she showed them inside and were greeted by a woman wearing a black ninja outfit with tied back purple hair and a fuchsia-colored scarf.

“ Did you bring back my Pokemon?” The woman asked.

“ They are fully healed and ready for action,” Akane said as she gave the woman her Pokeballs.

“ Thank you, Akane,” The woman said before Akane went back to training with her Greninja. “ And I can assume you girls are here to challenge my gym?

“ We are and I assume your Janine?” Twilight asked.

“ You got it I’m Janine the Gym Leader and Sensei of this dojo,” Janine said.

“ Then we challenge you to a battle,” Rainbow said.

“ All five of you?” Janine asked.

“ No just Turquoise, Twilight, and Rainbow. Applejack and I are just here to watch,” Rarity said.

“ I can only challenge one of you at a time so here is how we will decide. The battlefield is in the center of the mansion and you three will need to navigate and avoid the various traps in the mansion. whoever makes it to the battlefield first will be my first opponent,” Janine said before disappearing in a puff of smoke along with Rarity and Applejack. All three of them ran for it and the first trap they encountered was a room full of what looked like pokeballs. Twilight stopped Turquoise and Rainbow.

“ What gives Twilight?” Rainbow asked.

“ Watch your step or you set those Voltorb off,” Twilight said prompting Turquoise to check her Pokedex.

“ Voltorb. The Ball Pokemon. It is said to camouflage itself as a Poké Ball. It will self-destruct with very little stimulus,” The Pokedex said. The girls tiptoed through the room until Rainbow got impatient and shook the room which caused all the Voltorb to explode and them to run out of the room covered in scoff marks. As soon as they entered the next room the room began to slowly turn on its side as one of the walls fell and revealed a moat outside the mansion.

“ Now what?” Turquoise asked.

“ It’s a slanted room if we don,t hurry we will fall out,” Twilight said as she, Rainbow and Turquoise ran. After making it out of the slanted room and entering the hall they ran into an invisible wall.

“ First exploding Voltorb then a Slanted Room and now invisible walls whats next throwing stars?” Turquoise asked.

“ Actually' they are called shuriken,” Twilight corrected. As soon as they tried to go back the way they came they hit another invisible wall. “ We are trapped. As Twilight and rainbow were trying to break the invisible walls to no avail Turquoise was inspecting the regular walls after thinking back to what Akane said about things not always being as they appear. After tapping the wall on the right and pushing on it causing it to revolved revealing a secret passage.

“ This way girls,” Turquoise said as she, Twilight, and Rainbow went through the passage with Turquoise ahead of them.

“ How did you find this passageway?” Rainbow asked.

“ Remember when Akane told us the first lesson Koga taught her. Well after those invisible walls appeared I figured there had to be a way out that we were not thinking of,” Turquoise said before they arrived at what looked like the battlefield.

“ I see you girls made it through the traps and found the passageway to the battlefield,” Janine said.

“ Wasn’t easy,” Rainbow said.

“ So who will be my first opponent?” Janine asked.

“ Turquoise you may challenge her first since you figured out the puzzle before we could,” Twilight said.

“ Go for it,” Rainbow said. After Turquoise took her position on the battlefield a man in a black ninja out took his position on the Referee’s box.

“ The battle between Janine the Gym Leader and Turquoise the challenger will now begin. Each side will use three pokemon and the battle will be over when all pokemon on one side is unable to battle. Also, only the challenger is permitted to substitute pokemon,” The Ref said with both sides agreeing to the rules. “ Battle begin.

“ Ariados to my side,” Janine said as she called out a red and black arachnid-like creature with yellow and purple legs which prompted Turquoise to pull out her Pokedex and creeped Rarity out.

“ Ariados. The Long Leg Pokemon and the evolved form of Spinarak. Ariados's feet are tipped with tiny hooked claws that enable it to scuttle on ceilings and vertical walls. This Pokémon constricts the foe with thin and strong silk webbing,” The Pokedex said. After seeing that Ariados was also a bug-type Turquoise pulled out her first Pokeball.

“ Go Corviknight,” Turquoise said as Corviknight came out and glistened while flying above the field.

“ Ariados let’s start with Toxic Spikes. Ariados fired a bunch of poisonous missiles at Corviknight who just dodged them while they embedded themselves into the Battlefield.

“ Corviknight use Drill Peck. Corviknight’s beak began to spin as he approached Ariados.

“ Ariados dodge and use Electro Web. Ariados fired a web string from its back and used it to pulls itself onto the ceiling before spitting out a web made of electricity that ensnared Corviknight and inflicted a good amount of damage. “ Now keep up those Electro Webs. Ariados kept crawling across the ceiling while spitting out web after web of Electro Web.

“ Corviknight use Steel Wing to break those webs. Corviknight’s wings turned to metal while breaking the Electro Webs and nailing Ariados for some great damage while sending it back to the ground. “ Now use Drill Peck. Corviknight charged at Ariados which did not faze Janine in the slightest.

“ Ariados use Double Team. Ariados split into multiple copies before Corviknight nailed one of the fakes. “ Now use Electro Web. Ariados and its clones spat out multiple electro webs which managed to cause Corviknight to faint.

“ Corviknight is unable to battle the winner is Ariados,” The ref said as he pointed his left flag at Janine.

“ Corviknight return,” Turquoise said as she recalled her Corviknight. “ You battle valiantly now rest.

“ Did you not think we would have countermeasures against flying-types,” Janine said.

“ I must admit that Electro Web took me by surprise,” Turquoise said.

“ In any case bring out your next pokemon,” Janine said.

“ Very well. Go Ninetails,” Turquoise said as she called out her Ninetails. As soon as Ninetails landed on the field and unleashed her Drought Ability she was suddenly poisoned. “ How did my Ninetails get poisoned so soon?

“ That is the power of Toxic Spikes you thought I was aiming for Corviknight but in fact, I was aiming for the battlefield. You see Toxic Spikes is a move that covers the battlefield with poisonous caltrops that bury themselves into it and as soon as a non-poison or steel-type makes contact with the field they get poisoned. This is the secret technique we use in my gym,” Janine explained.

“ Ninetails can you still battle?” Turquoise asked with Ninetails nodding yes. “ Than use Flamethrower. Ninetailes unleashed her Flamethrower which Ariados easily dodged.

“ Ariados use Venoshock. Ariados unleashed a poisonous liquid that was heading towards Ninetails.

“ Dodge and use Extrasensory on Ariados. Ninetails dodged the Venoshock and managed to capture Ariados in her Extrasensory. “ Now use Flamethrower. Ninetails released Ariadoos and unleashed another flamethrower. Ariados tried to get away but was not quick enough to dodge the Flamethrower and fainted.

“ Ariados is unable to battle the winner is Ninetails,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.

“ Ariados return,” Janine said as she recalled her Ariados. “ You did great now rest. Clever thinking using Extrasensory to stop Ariados from crawling away.

“ Thanks, I figured if I wanted to beat Ariados I needed to stop it from moving,” Turquoise said.

“ But can you handle my next Pokemon? Venomoth to my side,” Janine said as she threw her next Pokeball which unleashed a purple moth-like creature which creeped Rarity out some more.

“ What is that?” Turquoise said while pulling out her Pokedex.

“ Venomoth. The Poison Moth Pokemon and the evolved form of Vanonat. The powdery scales on its wings are hard to remove from skin. They also contain poison that leaks out on contact,” The Pokedex said.

“ Venomoth let’s start with Psybeam. Venomoth fired a beam of many colors at Ninetails.

“ Ninetails use Flamethrower. Ninetails despite the pain from the poison unleashed her Flamethrower which collided with the Psybeam and caused both moves to explode after constantly pushing against each other.

“ Venomoth use Sludge Bomb. Venomoth unleashed a barrage of blobs of sludge at Ninetails who was hit by it because of the pain from the poison.

“ Ninetails let’s give it one last attack. Use Fire Blast. Ninetails unleashed her Fire Blast which Janine reacted to.

“ We won,t lose this one. Venomoth use Silver Wind. Venomoth flapped its wings with all it had in a desperate attempt to push the Fire Blast back. Ninetails was taking some damage from the Silver Wind while the Fire Blast managed to break through it and hit Venomoth for a ton of damage which knocked it out.

“ Venomoth is unable to battle the winner is Ninetails,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise. After the declaration of victory, the poison finished off Ninetails and caused her to faint.

“ Ninetails is also unable to battle,” The ref added.

“ Ninetails return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Ninetails. “ You did a magnificent job now rest up.

“ Venomoth Return,” Janine said as she recalled her Venomoth. “ You were amazing as well now rest. Looks like we are both down to our last Pokemon.

“ Looks like it,” Turquoise said.

“ Then let’s see how you handle this one. Crobat to my side,” Janine said as she threw her last Pokeball which unleashed a purple bat with a creepy expression on its face. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex once again.

“ Crobat. The Bat Pokemon. Silent and swift in its four-winged flight, it bites down on its prey before they realize what’s happening. In a heartbeat, it drains their blood,” The Pokedex said. Turquoise thought carefully about who to send out and made her choice.

“ Go Espeon,” Turquoise said as she sent out her Espeon who got poisoned as soon as she landed on the field.

“ Crobat use Cross Poison. Crobat created an X made of poison and charged at Espeon.

“ Dodge and use Confusion on Crobat. Espeon dodged the Cross Poison and covered Crobat in a blue aura before slamming it on the ground.

“ Not bad but let’s see you dodge this. Crobat use X-Scissor. Crobat created another X but this one was moss green instead of purple. Espeon tried to dodge but could not move because of the poison kicking in and was nailed for a ton of damage.

“ Espeon use Morning Sun. Espeon began to recover almost all of her health from the sunlight bathing her. “ Now use Psybeam. Espeon fired her Psybeam hoping to hit it.

“ Dodge and use Confuse Ray. Crobat dodged the Psybeam and unleashed a bright light that was reflected back at it thanks to Espeon’s Magic Bounce ability. Crobat began to look confused which surprised Janine.

“ Espeon use another Psybeam. Espeon fired another Psybeam at Crobat.

“ Crobat use X-Scissor. Crobat did not listen to Janine’s command and was nailed by the Psybeam which knocked it out.

“ Crobat is unable to battle the winner is Espeon which means victory goes to the Challenger,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.

“ We did it we won,” Turquoise said while hugging her Espeon.

“ Crobat you did a great job now rest,” Janine said before recalling Crobat and approaching Turquoise with a scroll. “ That was a splendid battle. You showed some quick thinking and strategy. So as proof of your victory here at the Fuchsia Gym I present you the Soul Badge. Janine unfurled the scroll which revealed the badge and Turquoise took it.

“ That was amazing Turquoise,” Rainbow said.

“ So Turquoise have you decided which Gym to challenge next?” Janine asked.

“ Not yet,” Turquoise said.

“ Normally I would recommend the Saffron City Gym but given what happened to Saffron City I would suggest going somewhere else,” Janine said.

“ Than the Saffron City Gym, it is,” Turquoise said.

“ Have you lost your mind Saffron City is crawling with Supernova goons there is no way you will be able to go there,” Rainbow said.

“ That is a chance I’m willing to take,” Turquoise said.

“ Fine but we are coming with you. We stand a better chance together than alone,” Twilight said.

“ Very well but what can I do while I wait for the both of you to get your Soul badges?” Turquoise asked.

“ May I suggest the Safari Zone it’s a great place to catch new Pokemon if your interested,” Janine said. 

“ Very well Twilight, Rainbow you have five days to get your badges before I decide to set out on my own,” Turquoise said.

“ That’s plenty of time,” Rainbow said.

“ Why that long?” Rarity asked.

“ Because if Twilight fails on her first attempt we may be here a while,” Turquoise said.

“ I won,t fail this time,” Twilight said. After leaving the Gym the girls all went back to the Pokemon Center for the night.
