//------------------------------// // Of Butterflies and Balloons // Story: A Pie and a Fluttershy // by Lil Sunny //------------------------------// Sugarcube Corner. The premier bakery and cafe of a small town called Ponyville. Inside one could purchase as many sweet treats as they wanted and enjoy them right there or take them to go. One of the bakery's key employees was a pink pony with a bouncy mane, and a cutie mark of 3 balloons showing her love for joy and parties. As she climbed the stairs to her room she saw pictures on the wall of the many parties she had thrown, each one reminding her of how happy she made her friends. Her eyes kept focusing on one aspect of each picture as she stared, a yellow pegasus pony with butterflies for her cutie mark and a long flowing pink mane. This was Fluttershy, the one pony in all the world Pinkie admired above the rest. Sure all her friends were great but something about the butter colored pony just made her feel tingly inside. But she didn't know how to act on her feelings. Every time she thought about Fluttershy her heart beat faster, her tummy felt funny like a thousand butterflies tried to escape. No matter what she did she couldn't stop her heart from telling her she felt something special with Fluttershy. Pinkie feared a direct approach to the subject might intimidate or scare poor Fluttershy. Knowing all too well she was rather timid Pinkie felt that what she needed to do was to tell Fluttershy without overwhelming her. So she hatched a plan. She baked some special butterfly buns and placed them along with some sandwiches, drinks and cups in a basket. Before making her way to the cottage in the woods, home to her friend and crush. A knock on the door was met with a quiet "one moment please" before the door swung open to reveal Fluttershy. "Hi Fluttershy I was wondering if you wanted to go on a picnic with me." "Oh hi Pinkie, I'd love to. Are any of the other girls coming?" Pinkie shook her head "nope, just a special date for the two of us." Pinkie backed up a bit realizing her slip of the tongue. Fluttershy thankfully didn't seem to notice and happily walked alongside Pinkie to a nearby hill overlooking the small town they called home. After placing a small blanket down and setting out the sandwiches and drinks Pinkie sat down and beckoned Fluttershy to join her. The two enjoyed the simple cucumber sandwiches while Fluttershy watched the townsfolk bustling about, Pinkie couldn't keep her eyes off Fluttershy. Something which unfortunately for her didn't go unnoticed. "Umm Pinkie, you've been staring at me for awhile now, is something wrong?" Pinkie quickly snapped her head around to look towards the town trying to hide her adoration. "Oh, n-no everything's fine Shy." She spoke with a smle, before realizing she made a second slip of the tongue. Pinkie sighed and pulled out a small box from the basket. "These are for you Fluttershy, I made them special." Each cupcake was decorated with yellow cream and pink cupcake pieces styled like a butterfly with a tiny edible icing butterfly on each one. Fluttershy stared in wonder at them as she wondered why Pinkie would make something so special just for her. "Why thank you Pinkie, these look lovely. I'm sure you'll help me eat a few now I mean we are on a picnic right? She giggled causing Pinkie to smile wider than before. "Happy to Fluttershy, just for you." As the two enjoyed each other's company the sun began to set and Pinkie decided to try a different approach. She saw how calm and happy Fluttershy was beside her and thought maybe being a little more direct couldn't hurt now. "Hey Fluttershy, I wanted to tell you something. But I don't think I have the right words for it." "Oh that's ok Pinkie, I struggle to find the right words a lot too. But one thing I do know is your friends will always understand you even if you say nothing at all. Maybe you could show me what you want to say?" "Well ok, if you're sure Fluttershy." Pinkie then kissed Fluttershy on the muzzle, Fluttershy was intially taken aback and ready to pull away but something in her heart told her to stay, she embraced the kiss and deepened it with the two ponies tasting each other for several minutes, though to them it felt like an eternity. "There, I showed you how I feel Fluttershy. I've always known what to do or say when I needed to, but looking at you just makes me giddy and happy, and a little nervous. You're prettier than any mare I know and I knew if I confronted you directly right away you might have run away. You're not the most confident pony in the world. But I also knew I needed to tell you how I felt somehow, I knew I had to find some way to show you how much I care. Your sweet smile, kind nature, cute critters and so much more just makes you perfect to me. I've probably ruined our friendship now, but I hope you can forgive me being so forward and accept my love." "Pinkie, I-I don't know what to say. Nopony has ever kissed me before, I never imagined my first kiss would be another mare, let alone a personal friend. But I do know in that one moment, something told me I should stay. To relax, let go and feel the passion in the air. I probably would have run away crying or confused if you had confronted me directly you're right. So I'm glad you were able to find a way to show me how you felt and keep me beside you. I didn't ever think the right pony would come along for me. I always thought I'd grow old with just my friends to keep me company, I didn't ever think I'd find a special somepony. And of all my friends you were the least likely pony I would've ever thought to love. You're fun loving, hyperactive and incredibly extroverted. So many thing I'm not. But a relationship is like a puzzle, even if the pieces are different, they come together to complete the picture. I'd love to give us a try together Pinkie." Fluttershy then wrapped a wing around Pinkie and gave her a nuzzle. "Hey Fluttershy, do you mind if I stay with you tonight? I'd like to be with my new marefriend rather than be home all alone." "Sure Pinkie, I'll show you how soft pegasus feathers can really be." Fluttershy spoke softly while blushing beet red. Back at the cottage all the animals were asleep and the two ponies proceeded straight to Fluttershy's bedroom. There they gently climbed into bed together and Fluttershy wrapped a yellow wing around Pinkie Pie pulling her closer and cuddling together till the morning.
