A Tale of a Loving Sister

Chapter 25: A Visit from the Superintendent

After Chase and Sunset came home from school, they saw a blue and white 1957 Chevy Belair Convertible near their apartment. When they got inside, they saw someone sitting on the couch waiting for them. She had sand colored skin, golden yellow hair with honey yellow streaks, and she wore a navy blue business jacket and skirt, a white work shirt, and black high heels with gold buckles. “Sunset Shimmer, I presume?” she asked. “I am Child Adoption Superintendent Meridian Honeymoon, but you can call me Miss Honeymoon. I work for the public law society.” Sunset nodded. “Sorry to keep you waiting. Do you want something to drink before we start?” Sunset asked politely.

“Yes, please,” Miss Honeymoon replied, until she saw Chase hiding from her, “Hey, it’s okay. I’m not here to take you away. I just want to talk to you and your sister about something.” Chase then came out and Miss Honeymoon stroked his hands and rubbed his hair softly, until Sunset came back with some coffee for Miss Honeymoon and herself. Then after Sunset sat down, Chase sat down on the couch and leaned by Sunset’s side. When she finished putting some milk in her coffee and in Miss Honeymoon’s cup, she wrapped her arm around Chase and stroked his hair and the back of his neck and shoulders.

“Alright, I have the adoption documents that you signed. I looked over and found out that they were checked clean and it was your actual handwriting,” Miss Honeymoon said. “If I am correct, do you really want to adopt Chase Tucker as your brother?”

“Well, the reason why was because when he looked at me with those sad eyes, he thought of me as a sister,” Sunset explained. “He also told me about his parents and how he lost them in the car crash. And Estella mistreating him.” Miss Honeymoon placed her fingers on her lips, “Oh my goodness. You poor thing. I am so sorry.” Chase sniffed, then Sunset continued, “When I found him on the last week of February, he looked so cold, tired, hungry, hurt and scared. After I brought him home with me, I decided to let him live with me until I find out what to do. And after he told me about his past life, I had no choice but to adopt him and take him under my wing. I mean, look at his sweet little face.”

Sunset and Miss Honeymoon looked at Chase leaning next to Sunset’s stomach and hugging her, and having puppy eyes with tears, then Sunset continued talking, “He needs someone to love him and take care of him. Because without someone to properly care for him like a mother, father, brother, or sister, he would perish in the cold of winter. He also had two nightmares about Estella being giant monsters, if I recall. I sometimes let him sleep with me if he gets scared, but he would normally sleep in his bed after I read him a bedtime story and tuck him in under his blankets. He also likes to hang out with my friends sometimes in case if there isn’t a babysitter available, but we also enrolled him to the daycare program at Canterlot High. He made two new friends there who were his age and his teachers are very sweet. He also met some other people who were so kind to him.” Sunset told them the names of the people Chase met and how kind they were and the places they went to, and Sunset finished up, “And we’re trying to keep him safe from Estella being close to him. She could be anywhere near here.”

Miss Honeymoon nodded and wrote some notes during their chat, “Mmhmm... I’ll make sure these notes and documents are used as evidence for the trial.” Sunset nodded. Miss Honeymoon made a suggestion, “If you win, we’ll hand over everything that he owns from the place he used to live with his parents, including his birth certificate, toys, portraits, pictures, and everything else over to your house so that his family will be remembered, as long as he has you. If there’s something you need, call me and I’ll come over.” She handed Sunset her calling card and then kneeled down towards Chase’s level, “Chase, I’ll be at the trial to help you and your friends win the adoption.” Chase nodded and then Miss Honeymoon then stood back up and shook her Sunset’s hand, “Report at the courthouse on Saturday at 12:30 pm, and be sure to dress formal, but not too formal. See you then.” Miss Honeymoon then left the apartment and drove off back to the office.

“Okay, just need to send a text: ‘Adoption trial is on Saturday at 12:30 pm, dress formal. Superintendent hired. Need lawyer.’ And send.” Sunset said after she texted her friends and Dean Cadence about the trial. Then, Rarity texted back that she’ll make outfits for the trial after she finishes the outfits for the spring formal this Friday. Twilight replied that she will ask her brother to be on a look out for Estella. Rainbow Dash replied that they will help protect Chase and make sure he stays with all of them. Sunset replied with a comment saying “thank you” and both a kiss and thumbs up emoji. After their texting was done, she went to the kitchen and started to make some dinner.
