Turquoise and Rainbow were camping out in the middle of the forest with Turquoise doing some training with her Pokemon to prepare for both the Fuchsia City Gym and the upcoming contest in the next town. As soon as Turquoise noticed how tired her Pokemon were she decided to stop.
“ All right everyone time for a well-earned break,” Turquoise said as she pulled out some berries and a bag of something else.
“ Whatcha making Turquoise?” Rainbow asked.
“ Special Pokemon Food for my team. After watching Fluttershy make some of the best Pokemon Food I ever tasted I decided I wanted to make my kind and I even bought these for some extra flavor,” Turquoise said while pulling out four bags of Rare Candies. “ The lady at the store said these increase a pokemon’s level and since we pretty much reached the halfway mark of our journey I need to be ready to face much stronger opponents than before. After blending the berries as Fluttershy taught her she melted the rare candies down and added the liquid to the mix. After finishing the stirring the Pokemon food came out nicely with a nice glaze of Rare Candy essence on it. As soon as all of Turquoise’s pokemon took a bite they all looked like they were in a state of pure bliss while at the same time feeling reenergized.
“ Looks like your new pokemon food is a hit what do you call it?” Rainbow asked.
“ I call it Turquoise’s Power Boost Surprise,” Turquoise said. Suddenly Trapinch began to glow.
“ That must be some powerful stuff because Trapinch is evolving,” Rainbow said as Trapinch began to change shape and grow wings. As soon as the flash died down a green bug-like creature with green eyes hovered where Trapinch once stood.
“ Vibrava,” The creature said before Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex.
“ Vibrava. The Vibration Pokemon and the evolved form of Trapinch. The ultrasonic waves it generates by rubbing its two wings together cause severe headaches,” The Pokedex said.
“ This is awesome I now have a Vibrava,” Turquoise said joyfully. Suddenly Vibrava unleashed a breath of blue fire into the air showing off his new move. “ And it looks like he learned Dragon Breath. The rest of Turquosie’s pokemon were also showing off some of the new moves they just learned. Espeon Learned Morning Sun, Venusaur learned Synthesis, Zorua learned Knock Off and Riolu learned Swords Dance.
“ Let’s head over to the next town,” Rainbow said impatiently while Turquoise was packing up the campsite.
“ Sure I can,t wait to see what awaits us next,” Turquoise said after grabbing her bag. After about thirty minutes of walking The girls arrive safely out of the forest and see the next town on the horizon. As soon as they entered the town Turquoise saw a poster for the contest but was disappointed to see she and Rainbow arrived five whole days early. “ What are we supposed to do for five days?
“ If you girls are looking for something to do why not enter the Steel City tag Battle Tournament,” a passing trainer said.
“ I guess we can do that since we have time,” Rainbow said.
“ Registration is by the stadium. Its the building near the Pokemon Center you can,t miss it,” The trainer said before running off. After signing up for the tournament Turquoise and Rainbow were each issued a card with a number on it. Turquoise was 7 and Rainbow was 20. After registering Rainbow decided to make a quick call to someone to get some of her pokemon from her previous adventure to aid her in this tournament. Sometime later all thirty-two trainers competing in the Tag Battle Tournament were gathered in the stadium awaiting the mayor to begin the opening ceremony. Suddenly a plume of smoke went off and out of it came a woman in a red pantsuit who took the podium.
“ Ladies and Gentlemen, Trainers of all ages as the mayor of Steel City and the Mc of this tournament I welcome all of you to my fair city. I hope you are all excited for three days of battling and bonding and I hope all of you have your entry cards because on the jumbotron you will see everyone’s number so look for your number and the one next to yours. They will be your partner in this tournament for the next three days. Without further ado, let’s see who is who,” The mayor said before slamming a red button. The numbers appeared on screen with Turquoise paired with number 12 and Rainbow with number 9.
“ Awesome I’m in the B block,” Rainbow said.
“ And I’m in the D Block,” Turquoise said.
“ And now using the numbers to guide you find your tag team partner,” The mayor said before all the trainers began to talk among themselves. Turquoise and her Zorua began looking around for the trainer with number 12.
“ I’m number 7 trying to locate number 12,” Turquoise said while Zorua stood on her head holding the number for her.
“ Number 9 where are you?” Rainbow asked with her Blastoise next to her.
“ So your number 9 how lucky for me,” A gruff female voice said.
“ Gilda? Your number 9?” Rainbow asked.
“ Yep, long time no see Dash,” Gilda said.
“ Looks like Rainbow found her partner so where is mine?” Turquoise asked before a lovestruck boy with the exact number she was looking for approached her.
“ Who knew such a beauty like yourself would be number 7,” The boy said.
“ Well thank you and I’m guessing your Number 12?” Turquoise asked.
“ Sure am. The name is Minato,” Minato said.
“ Nice to meet you I’m Turquoise,” Turquoise said.
“ Now that everyone has found their partner allow me to show you the prize for the winners of this tournament,” The mayor said before pulling out a pair of bells each attached to a red string. “ These are called soothe Bells and they help deepen the connection between trainer and pokemon and the winners will each get one. The battles shall begin this afternoon which gives all of you time to practice with your partners.
“ So Gilda are you in the Indigo League too?” Rainbow asked.
“ Sure am I already have four badges,” Gilda said.
“ That’s awesome,” Rainbow said.
“ So Turquoise tell me a bit about yourself?” Minato asked.
“ I’m into Contests and fashion and plan on winning both the Indigo League and the Grand Festival,” Turquoise said.
“ A girl that can do both now that is my kind of girl,” Minato said. After talking for some time the Tournament began. The A Block went by quickly after a good back and forth. Now it was Rainbow and Gilda’s turn and their opponents were a furisode Girl with black hair wearing a black kimono with red bows and a Biker punk with muscles.
“ And now its time for the B block which I’m sure will be exciting now let’s bring out the Pokemon,” The mayor said.
“ Braviary come on out,” Rainbow said as she called forth her Braviary.
“ Mandibuzz lets rock,” Gilda said as she calls out a giant vulture with a bone in her hair.
“ Umbreon Lets play,” The Forisode girl said as she called forth a black cat-like creature with yellow rings on its body and piercing red eyes.
“ Koffing lets roll,” The Biker Punk said as a floating purple meteor with a skull on and crossbones on its body which was also its face. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for all three of the new Pokemon she saw.
“ Mandibuzz. The Bone Vulture Pokemon. They adorn themselves with bones. There seem to be fashion trends among them, as different bones come into and fall out of popularity,” The Pokedex said before Turquoise moved on to the next pokemon. “ Umbreon. The Moonlight Pokemon and another evolved form of Eevee. On the night of a full moon, or when it gets excited, the ring patterns on its body glow yellow. Turquoise then moved on to Koffing. “ Koffing. The Poison Gas Pokemon. Its body is full of poisonous gas. It floats into garbage dumps, seeking out the fumes of raw, rotting trash.
“ Now that the Pokemon are out, battle begin,” The Mayor said.
“ Braviary let’s start with Tailwind. Braviary generated a tailwind that made both him and Mandibuzz faster.
“ Umbreon use Dark Pulse on Braviary. Umbreon fired a blast of dark rings of energy.
“ Mandibuzz use Payback. Mandibuzz took the Dark Pulse and managed to strike back with twice the power on Umbreon.
“ Koffing use Sludge Bomb on Mandibuzz. Koffing unleashed its Sludge Bomb on Manibuzz who thanks to tailwind dodged it.
“ Shall we end this Dash?” Gilda asked.
“ Let’s,” Rainbow said. “ Braviary use Superpower on Umbreon. Braviary unleashed a great power that managed to nail Umbreon for some massive damage.
“ Umbreon use Moonlight. Umbreon’s rings began to glow as it recovered some health.
“ Koffing use Thunderbolt on Braviary. Koffing unleashed its Thunderbolt on Braviary thus managing to nail it for some major damage but not enough to beat him.
“ Mandibuzz use Steel Wing. Mandibuzz’s wings turned to metal as she charged at Koffing which the Biker Punk was waiting for.
“ You fell right into our trap. Koffing use Explosion. Koffing began to build up power while the Biker Punk’s partner braced herself.
“ Umbreon use Protect. Umbreon erected a barrier around itself before Koffing blew up and created a huge blast that covered the entire stadium. As soon as the blast cleared up both Braviary and Mandibuzz were still in the battle which shocked the Biker Punk.
“ Impossible Explosion is a move that wipes everything out. How can both your pokemon still be flying?” The Biker Punk asked.
“ We had our pokemon ride the updraft your explosion created,” Rainbow explained before pointing out how explosion caused Koffing to faint.
“ Koffing is unable to battle,” The ref said.
“ Mandibuzz use Steel Wing again. Mandibuzz charged at Umbreon with metal wings and this time managed to cause enough damage to make Umbreon faint.
“ Umbreon is unable to battle which means the winners are Braviary and Mandibuzz,” The ref said while pointing his right arm at Rainbow and Gilda.
“ And Rainbow and Gilda move on to the second day of the tournament,” The Mayor said. The C block match ended in a flash and now it was Turquoise and Minato’s turn and their opponents were a man dressed as a soldier and a boy wearing a school uniform. “ And now its time for the D Block lets see what Pokemon our teams have for this one.
“ Go Riolu,” Turquoise said as she sent her Riolu into the battle.
“ Manectric Forward March,” the Soldier said as he threw his Pokeball which unleashed a blue and yellow canine-like creature.
“ Meowstic let’s go,” Minato said as he threw his Pokeball and unleashed A indigo and white feline-like creature with blue eyes with green pupils.
“ Plusle come on out,” The boy said as little mouse-like creature with red cheeks with plus signs on them and a red plus-shaped tail came out and danced happily. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for more info starting with Plusle.
“ Plusle. The Cheering Pokemon. It cheers on friends with pom-poms made of sparks. It drains power from telephone poles,” The Pokedex said before changing to Menectric. “ Menectric. The Discharge Pokemon. It stimulates its own muscles with electricity, so it can move quickly. It eases its soreness with electricity, too, so it can recover quickly as well. Finally Turquoise focused on Meowstic. “ Meowstic. The Constraint Pokemon. The defensive instinct of the males is strong. It's when they're protecting themselves or their partners that they unleash their full power.
“ Battle begin,” The mayor said.
“ Plusle use Helping Hand. Plusle began jumping up and down while waving its paws thus causing Manectric to glow.
“ Thanks, kid. Manectric use Thunder Fang on Meowstic. Menectric Charged at Meowstic with its fangs glowing with yellow electricity.
“ Riolu use Bullet Punch. Riolu’s fists were covered in red energy as he intercepted Menectric and punched rapidly
“ Meowstic use Light Screen. Meowstic generated a barrier made of yellow energy around Turquoise and Minato’s side of the field. “ You leave the defense to me and focus on attacking.
“ Thanks, Minato. Riolu use force palm on Manectric. Riolu ran towards Manectric with his palm generating power.
“ We won,t let you near Manectric. Plusle use Nuzzle on Riolu. Plusle charged at Riolu before rubbing upon him and caused him to be paralyzed.
“ Manectric use Thunderbolt on Riolu. Manectric began to unleash its thunderbolt on Riolu until Minato acted.
“ Meowstic intercept that and use Payback. Meowstic moved in front of Riolu and took the front of the Thunderbolt which did not hurt as much thanks to Light Screen and then struck back at Manectric with double the power and knock it out.
“ Manectric is unable to battle,” The ref said.
“ It’s up to you now kid,” The Soldier said.
“ Plusle use Discharge. Plusle suddenly let loose by unleashing a massive amount of electricity from its body that hit both Riolu and Meowstic.
“ Riolu try and use force Palm again. Riolu did his best to follow Turquosie’s command and managed to strike Plusle with enough force to knock it out.
“ Plusle is unable to battle which means the Winners are Riolu and Meowstic,” The ref said as he pointed his right arm at Turquoise and Minato.
“ We did it we won,” Turquoise said excitedly.
“ We sure did,” Minato said. The rest of the battles were intense and after the H block battle was concluded the mayor declared the end of the first day and told every to look forward to day two. Everyone went to the Pokemon Center to have their Pokemon healed which may have stressed Nurse Joy out a little.
“ These opening days of the tag battle can be quite exhausting,” Nurse Joy said to herself. Luckily one of the other competitors offered to help her. While they waited for their Pokemon to be treated Rainbow and Turquoise along with their tag partners decided to talk with each other.
“ So Rainbow who is your friend?” Turquoise asked.
“ This is Gilda. We have been friends since we were little,” Rainbow said.
“ We have been friends since we met at Professor Celestia’s Pokemon Camp,” Gilda said.
“ So the two of you have history together,” Turquoise said.
“ Sure do,” Rainbow said. “ So who is your partner?
“ I’m Minato,” Minato said.
“ Nice to meet you Minato,” Rainbow said. As they were talking Nurse Joy came out with everyone’s Pokemon and after reclaiming them all four trainers decided to call it a night.
