A Tale of a Loving Sister

Chapter 23: A Dazzlingly Stormy Saturday

The next morning on a nice warm Saturday, Chase was in his bedroom on the floor playing with his toys about a giant monster attack in Tokyo. Until then, Sunset peeked into his room and went to talk to him, “Chase, are you okay in here?” Chase nodded, the she spoke up again, “Can we have a talk?”

“Okay,” Chase replied as he stood up and sat next to Sunset on his bed. “Okay, so today, we’re not gonna be able to hang out as brother and sister today,” Sunset said. “I have to help my friends and the Shadowbolts think of a party plan that may be suitable for both our schools and your classmates. I also tried to find a babysitter, but everyone else is busy, so I guess you’re gonna have to find something to do. I’m sorry, little bro. I just don’t want you to be overwhelmed by all this work. You understand, don’t you?” Chase nodded and then gave Sunset a warm hug, then she left his room. “Can I go for a walk in the park by myself and come back home?” Chase asked. “Yeah, sure. Just be back before the storm hits. It’s also gonna rain, so you’re gonna need a rain jacket with you,” Sunset said, then left the apartment to go help her friends with party plans.

After Chase was all alone, he was so bored. He couldn’t think about what to do, so he got up, put on his rain jacket and went for a little walk. While he was walking, he went over to the park and then sat on a bench and looked at his locket.

When all of a sudden, the three Dazzlings from the Neon Moonrise were walking in the park. Adagio wore a black jacket and purple glittery shorts, and her boots were knee high and mixture of black and purple in gothic design, but she wore the same shirt from before. Aria wore a magenta long sleeved shirt with white polka dots that was covered by a lime green short sleeved faux fur vest, dark reddish purple spandex pants with turquoise streaks, and pink and purple gradient boots with lime green fur. Sonata wore a magenta modified dress with one side sleeved and the other side sleeveless and had taco stickers on the center and bottom sides of her skirt, pink horizontal striped socks, and aqua green converse sneakers. “Ah, such a nice day, huh?” Aria asked. “Yep, such a beautiful day to get outside and get some exercise,” Sonata replied. “You said it,” Adagio said. “Otherwise, we would’ve been wandering around without a clue arguing about some kind of schedule for today. But if only we-“ She cut herself off until she saw Chase sitting on the bench looking down at his locket, so Adagio and the other two girls hid themselves and watched how Chase was feeling. “That’s Chase, Sunset’s brother,” Adagio said. “What’s a cute little guy like him doing out here in the park by himself?” Sonata asked softly. “Shhh... Listen and we’ll find out,” Adagio said.

Until he then realized he still had his parents in his heart, Chase looked up in the sky and decided to talk to their spirits in heaven. “I still miss you, Mommy,” Chase said sadly. “But I still wish you and Daddy were here and would’ve met Sunset. She’s been a good sister and she’s been taking care of me so far and so have her friends. I’ll be okay with them because all I wanted was a big family since you left from that car crash. But, with Auntie Estella at large, I don’t know what I’ll do. I don’t want Sunset or my friends to get hurt because of me, and I don’t want to lose them the way I lost you and Daddy in that car accident. While you were gone, Auntie Estella’s been mean to me and she hit me, called me names, and I was always hungry in that cold and terrible house she lives in. Could you ask the spirits to send me a guardian angel to watch over me and my friends? If I ever want to see you, I’ll never stop praying for protection. I love you, and may peace be with you.” Then Chase had tears in his eyes and softly began to cry after he began to walk home. Suddenly, the Dazzlings finally knew the truth and started to feel sorry for him.

“Aww, the poor cutie,” Sonata said. “I don’t believe it,” Adagio said. “All this time, he was abused by his own aunt and he lost his parents from a car crash? That’s totally pathetic.” “I agree. Although I’m sorry to say this, but I think there’s a storm about to hit, along with some rain,” Aria warned. “And he might get struck by lightning!” Sonata exclaimed softly, then shook Adagio while placing her hands on her shoulders, then began whining and sobbing. “Adagio! What are we gonna do?! I don’t want the little cutie to die in such a cruel world!” Adagio slapped Sonata, “Will you stop complaining? Plus, I know exactly what to do. Let’s head back to the van.”

When it started to rain and thunder softly rumbled, Chase was all wet and cold in the rain while wearing his jacket, but he couldn’t zip up his zipper because it was stuck, and he got scared from the thunder. He felt lonely like before, but until a black van came towards him and the door opened. Chase turned around and saw Aria kneeling there, “Hey, little guy. Need a lift?” Chase nodded and then got into the van, and saw Adagio and Sonata sitting in their couch, then Aria got back to the driver’s seat and drove the van. “Adagio!” Chase said as he hugged her. Sonata came over, took off his jacket, and put a towel around him, “Here, you’re freezing wet.” After he was comfy in the towel, Sonata gave him a kiss on the cheek and went back to her seat. “Can I sit with you, Adagio?” Chase asked. Adagio smirked softly and reached out her arm, “Go right ahead. And yes, you can sit on my lap.” Chase then climbed onto the couch and sat on Adagio’s lap, then he laid his head on her chest and listened to her heart thumping. Adagio then embraced him in a hug and stroked his wet hair.

“Long time no see, kiddo,” Adagio said. “Miss us?” Chase nodded. “We also heard what you said in the park,” she explained while cuddling with Chase on her lap. “We’re sorry you had to suffer that way. That kinda behavior your aunt gave you was kinda gullible but irrelevant. Mostly predictably embarrassing.” Then, Chase felt kinda better. “What were you doing out there by yourself before the storm, anyhow?” Aria asked. “I was trying to find something to do since Sunset’s busy helping with the spring formal,” Chase said. “So, I went for a walk to find something to do, but I didn’t feel like playing in the park today.”

“Aww, well that’s too bad,” Sonata said sweetly. “You probably never had a babysitter with you, huh?” Chase nodded as his face was still wet from the rain. Then, he heard thunder and pressed his cheek on Adagio’s chest, whimpering until Adagio rubbed his back and comforted him. “Aww, poor little Chase, scared of thunderstorms,” Sonata said, until Adagio shushed him. “Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you for today,” she said. “How about we go grab some lunch?”

“Ooh! I know just the place!” Sonata exclaimed in excitement. Aria and Adagio rolled their eyes, but Chase was confused, “What place?”

“Trust me, Sonata is obsessed with this place,” Aria said.

Later on, Chase and the Dazzlings were in a Mexican food joint having tacos and burritos for lunch. Chase ordered a kid’s meal of two plain tacos with just soft shells and topped with just beef and cheese with a small kid’s cup of Coca-Cola to drink. He also sat between Adagio and Aria while eating. Adagio and Aria ate their burrito supremes like normal people do, and so did Sonata, but she had 4 hard shell tacos. Adagio ordered a burrito with beef, cheese, onions, lettuce and tomato. Aria ordered a burrito with both ground beef and beef and bean chili and covered with cheese.

“Thanks for looking after me, Adagio,” Chase said kindly. “You’re quite welcome, Chase,” Adagio replied. “This is some good stuff, huh?” Sonata asked with her mouth full, then swallowed. “We know, you love tacos and burritos so much,” Aria said. “We’re glad you do, but you don’t need to say it every time in different ways.”

“I know,” Sonata said, then made a squee smile. “They’re like this most of the time,” Adagio said. “But they try to handle it by getting along.” Chase nodded after taking a bite of his taco, then sipped his soda.

Sonata then saw a jar full of salsa that included fiery habanero peppers. She took a spoonful from the jar and placed some on her taco, then took a bite. She suddenly felt her tongue burning a little, “Hot! Hot! Hot, hot, hot, hot, hot hot, hot, hot, hot!” She then drank some of her soda and swallowed it with the peppers. “Aaaah, that’s better,” she said, until Chase, Adagio and Aria giggled.

“So, you lost your parents in a car accident?” Aria asked. “Yeah, I did,” Chase replied sadly. “Sorry if I brought that up, baby,” Aria said rubbing his shoulder. “We just want you to know that they love you too.”

Chase nodded, then took another bite of his taco, until he finished his first and moved to the second. “Chase, no matter what happens, you’ve got people that love you and adore you, and if you feel sad or scared about something, never back down and keep going,” Adagio said, then kissed Chase’s forehead. Chase then showed them his locket, “This belonged to my mommy. I put a picture in it just in case if I wanna look at it. Something to remember them by.” The three girls were surprised that he never forgot about them, until Adagio asked by placing her hand on his shoulder and neck, “So, what have you been up to so far?” Adagio asked. “Yeah, how’ve your sister and friends been since last time?” Sonata asked, before eating another bite of her taco.

“They’re fine. Well, yesterday, I went to the park with my sister, then we went to the zoo, the museum, the observatory and planetarium, and the aquarium. But, before the night we met last week, I hung out with my sister and her friends from a slumber party at Pinkie Pie’s house one Sunday ago, and hung out with one of her friends each for a whole week before we went to the boardwalk for spring break. I wish you were there. It would’ve been so much fun!” Chase said as the three girls nodded. “Then, that day after we got home from the boardwalk and when I got this huge dragon plushie, I got sick with a tummy ache and huge fever for two days.”

“Oh, my goodness,” Adagio said placing her fingers on her lips. “Glad you felt better after that.”

“So, then what happened?” Aria asked.

“I enrolled to the daycare program at Canterlot High,” Chase answered. “I met Miss Blue Belle, who is my aid. I made friends there. There’s Sam Sam, who is a boy I met yesterday and then there was my first best friend, Melody Blossom, who was Miss Blue Belle’s daughter. I also met Mrs. Chrysalis, our teacher. She was very pretty.”

“Awww, so cute!” Sonata said. “Then, we got a visit from the students from Crystal Prep Academy. My babysitter Cadence is the Dean, and I found out my parents used to go to that school,” Chase said. “My parents won so many trophies.”

The Dazzlings were surprised about his parents going to Crystal Prep and winning trophies. When they finished their tacos and burritos, they drove off.

Later on, they went to a department store. After they shopped for toiletries, shampoo, body wash, conditioner, groceries, they went to a clothing section to try on a few clothes. Each of them were checking out which outfits would be perfect for the three, but Chase kinda started to have an uncomfortable reaction within him. Aria was trying to choose between the jackets she picked out, “Ugh. So many choices, can’t decide what to choose.” Suddenly, Sonata appeared holding up a cute pink top shirted dress, “Hey, Aria. What do you think of this? Do you think it’ll look good on me or no?” Aria shrugged her shoulders, then Sonata made up her mind, “Yeah, I guess it’ll look cute.” Then, they saw Chase holding his bladder in control and sobbing softly, until Adagio kneeled down, “You alright? Because it almost sounds like you gotta go to...” She was eventually cut off by Chase making a whining noise. Adagio realized what he meant, “Oh, crap. Uhh...” She saw the sign for the men’s bathroom.

While Chase was going potty, Adagio, Aria and Sonata waited for Chase to be done so they can leave. They even heard him hum a cute song, but then he stopped for a moment. “Chase, are you done in there?” Aria asked. “No,” Chase replied. “Alright, but hurry up,” Sonata said. “Just take your time.” Chase then continued to sing his song. “That’s such a cute little song,” Sonata said softly, then they heard the toilet flush. “Okay, you’re finished now, right?” Adagio asked. “Hello?” Chase came out from washing his hands, “Yep, I’m done.”

“Phew. Well, that’s a relief,” Adagio said.

After they left the department store, they drove off in their van around the city.

Chase thought of something for a quick second, then poked Adagio and asked her a question, “Adagio, can I ask you for a favor? It’s something I’ve been thinking about.” Adagio nodded, “Yeah, shoot.” He thought for a moment, and then asked her to lean closer and whispered in her ear. Adagio then realized what he asked, “You want us to sing at the spring formal in your school?” Chase nodded. “Well, I don’t see why not,” Adagio said. “I’m sure you two won’t mind.” Sonata and Aria squealed in excitement, “IT’S A DEAL!”

While they were driving, Adagio asked Sunset if they could take Chase to their place, then let her come pick him up around 8:30pm. Sunset replied with a yes and asked the three if they make sure Chase eats dinner around 5 or 6 o’clock, and Adagio replied with a “okay” and thumbs up emoji.

When they finally arrived at their place, Adagio lifted Chase up in her arms and carried him inside as the other two followed her. They got inside and Chase saw the place having plenty of living space, three decorative bedrooms, a huge decorative living room with a huge plush couch, a small kitchen, and a master bathroom. He also saw a painting of three colorful mermaids sitting on a rock that was stranded on the ocean, and then saw lots of colorful lights and interesting decor.

“Chase, welcome to our humble home. It’s not much, but it’s something that feels like home,” Adagio said. “We call this “The Siren’s Cove.” It’s because our voices relate to sirens,” Aria said. “Yeah, but some people think of us as beautiful mermaids,” Sonata said softly. “Wow, but to me, you almost sound like angels from heaven,” Chase said, then the Dazzlings blushed, “So, you three live here together?”

“Yeah, It’s not much, but we like it that way,” Aria said, until Adagio spoke up, “And we also make sure each one of us gets a turn for doing particular household chores or go pick up some required errands listed down.”

“But sometimes, mostly Aria and I like to take turns on the chores,” Sonata said. “Yep, but it’s just to make sure that nothing bad happens to either one of us,” Aria stated. “Yeah, especially plumbing and leaks. Also, a huge load of groceries that is way too much to carry,” Sonata stated back. “Well, at least one of us has confidence,” Aria said. “Will you two knock it off?” Adagio silenced them with a death stare. “Sorry,” they said softly. “God, you two are so annoying. It’s always the same stupid bargaining,” Adagio said with her finger and thumb pressed on her monobrow bone, until she kneeled down to Chase and placed her hands on his shoulders, “Hey, Chase. Why don’t you go sit on the couch and watch some TV? We’ll take care of you later,” Adagio suggested kindly. “Okay,” Chase said, as he ran to the couch and kicked back on the cushion, took his shoes off and neatly placed them on the white tiger fake fur carpet, then put on “Thomas and Friends.”

“Here you go,” Sonata said, as she gave Chase a plate of cookies and a glass of milk, then the girls went to their rooms to have some privacy.

After the girls came back from some relaxing, they saw Chase sleeping on the couch and his milk and cookies were already done. Sonata took his cup and plate to the dishwasher, then she sat down with Adagio and Aria on the couch. Adagio laid Chase down on her lap and wrapped a leopard print blanket all over him, then Aria put on a movie, until the channel they found aired something that Chase might enjoy, and Sonata grabbed some Doritos.

When the movie started, Chase woke up and saw that they were watching one of his favorite Disney movies, “The Lion King.”

“I love this movie,” Chase said softly. “Hey, sleepyhead,” Aria said softly. Adagio stroked his shoulders gently, “You have a good nap?” Chase nodded, then stretched his arms and back, but Sonata tickled his armpits and caused a giggle from him. Then, Chase laid back and enjoyed the movie with them.

While they watched the movie, they ordered Chinese food for dinner. Chase got some sweet and sour chicken with white rice and steamed vegetables, while the girls ordered sushi. After they finished both dinner and the movie, it was time for Chase to go home, since Sunset was at the front door.

Adagio got up after Chase got up from the couch and walked over to the door with her. After she opened the door, Sunset had an umbrella with her and Chase went over to his sister and gave her a hug, “Thanks for watching him, Adagio,” Sunset said. “It was no trouble at all. He was easy as pie,” Adagio said. “But we have good news. We were wondering if we could sing at your spring formal in Canterlot High. Chase asked us nicely.” Sunset looked down at him and saw him giving her the puppy eyes, “Alright, but there’ll be preschool kids present. Just to let you know.” Adagio saw the other two squealing girls in excitement, “We’re in.” Sunset nodded and then took Chase home. “See you around, kiddo!” Adagio said kindly. “Call us next time if you wanna see us!” Sunset gave her a thumbs up and then walked home with Chase under her umbrella.
