It's My Fault

The Accident

Twilight glanced back at her friends behind her as they walked through The Everfree Forest, and although she hadn't fully understood the true meaning of friends yet, she was starting to warm up to them. Sure she didn't appreciate it when the princess sent her to Ponyville to check on preparations and to make friends as well, but now she was starting to realize how important friends are.

"So, none of you have been in here before?" Twilight asked the group with slight fear in her voice.

"Ugh, heavens no." Said Rarity in disgust. "Just look at it, it's dreadful"

"And it ain't natural." Added Applejack as they trotted over a cliff. "Folks say it don't work the same in Equestria."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Twilight asked nervously while looking around scared.

"Nopony knows." Rainbow said as she emerged from the shadows. "You know why?"

"Rainbow!, quit it!" Applejack groaned with frustration, but Rainbow didn't stop as she crawled closer to them.

"Cause everypony who's ever come in, has never come OUT!"

Right as Rainbow said that, the cliff that they were standing on crumble beneath them and Twilight, Applejack, Rarity and Pinkie Pie start plummeting down the cliff, screaming. Rainbow and Fluttershy watched them slip down, getting closer and closer to the cliff.

"Fluttershy, quick." Called out Rainbow Dash as she goes after them.

"Oh my goodness, oh my goodness." Whispered Fluttershy and followed Rainbow Dash.

As the four mares continue to plummet to their possible death. Rainbow managed to catch Pinkie pie as Fluttershy zoomed over to Rarity. Meanwhile, Applejack holds onto a branch with her mouth and looks down to see something heart dropping. She saw Twilight sliding to the edge of the cliff, she cried as she grasped onto the edge of the cliff as her back hooves dangled over the edge.

"Hold on, I'm a coming." Applejack called out as she slid down to help out Twilight.

"Applejack, what do I do?" Twilight worriedly exclaimed, slipping her hooves over the cliff.

As Applejack struggles to prevent Twilight from falling, she looks up with a shine in her eyes. Then she looks back at Twilight with faith in her eyes.

"Let go." Applejack said.

"Are you crazy!" Cried Twilight, thinking Applejack went insane.

"No I ain't, I promise you'll be safe." Applejack assured her.

"That's not true." Twilight called out, refusing to believe the orange mare.

"Now listen here." Applejack said with confidence. "What I'm saying to you is the honest truth, let go and you'll be safe."

Twilight looked at Applejack with wide and pleading eyes, but although she wanted to protest the orange mare, she could see the look of honesty in her face, she had a friendly grin on her face. Twilight decided to do exactly what she said and let go of her hooves and started to plummet towards the ground. As she screamed in terror, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy flew towards her with such speed and agility, but Twilight was getting closer and closer to the ground. Twilight realized pretty quickly that they weren't capable to catch her in time. Twilight closed her eyes and braced for impact..... CRUNCH!!!

The rest of the mares were only a few feet away when they heard the terrifying crunch. They gasped in horror as they stared at Twilight's body in shock. Her bones could be visibly shown from outside her hooves and she was surrounded by a pool of her own blood.

"TWILIGHT!" Pinkie screamed at the top of her lungs and Rarity lost all of her color and nearly fainted.

"Oh.... my." Was all that Fluttershy could whisper. "It's all my fault, I didn't go fast enough."

"No Fluttershy, it was my fault." Rainbow cried.

"Come on ya'll, we gotta get her to the hospital." Applejack called out to the group.

As the mane five and Spike were waiting in the waiting room of the hospital, Twilight had just woken up in her room, she felt pain in her hooves and back and her head was throbbing and her vision was blurry. As she looked around the room, she realized she was laying on the bed with her front hooves bandaged up. She couldn't remember what caused this.

"Wh... What happened?" Twilight croaked out. "How did I end up here?"

As she looked around the room some more, she realized that she was alone. Distraught, Twilight hung her head and couldn't hold back a tear as it dripped onto the blanket. Back in the waiting room, everyone was anxious about Twilight's injury as they subconsciously darted their pinprick eyes across the room. Before anyone could break out at start crying right then and there. Nurse Redheart trotted up to them, they looked up to her with hope.

"So, how is she?" Spike asked nervously.

"Good news, she is awake now." Redheart replied and then paused.

"And what's the bad news?" Applejack pondered with slight worry in her voice.

"She only has a few minutes left to live." Redheart said.

Anything could've happen, a pony could've burst in and started yelling at everyone, a cow could've charged through the hallways, the mane five would've just sit there in silent. It was like time slowed down.

"Wh... What?!" Rainbow cried.

"Yeah, I'm terribly sorry, so, come say your goodbyes." Redheart replied.

Nervous and having nothing else to do, the mane five followed Nurse Redheart towards Twilight's room. Fluttershy couldn't help weeping her little heart out as Rarity tried to comfort her, holding back a sniffle as well. As the mane five enter Twilight's room, they saw Twilight looking as pale as a ghost and her eyes were narrow. She looked up to her visitors and smirked a little bit.

"Guys, I'm so glad you're here." She sighed with relief as they walked up to her.

"You can't die on me, Twilight." Spike pleaded. "We've been through so much together."

"Spike's right." Agreed Rarity, although Spike would usually fall in love that Rarity had agreed with him, he thought that it wasn't the time right now.

"Yeah, remember the "Welcome to Ponyville" party I threw you?" Asked Pinkie as she nodded her head.

"And the first time you met me?" Rainbow added.

"And the brunch me and my family gave you?" Applejack wondered.

Twilight nodded to all of their questions.

"Sorry guys, it's all my fault. I didn't understand the true meaning of friends and now I'm unable to anymore." Twilight sighed with depression in her voice.

"No, Twilight. It's my fault." Applejack admitted. "I'm the one who told you to let go."

"Well, we might not have been friends for that long." Twilight said. "But I will never forget you gu-."

Before Twilight could finish her sentence, she silently passed away with one last sigh. Her heart monitor let out an eerie beep sound. Everyone was sad.

"Twilight? TWILIGHT!" Spike cried out, but Twilight didn't answer.
