//------------------------------// // Chapter 5: Q & A // Story: Nibiru: Chaos Collision // by Knox Locke //------------------------------// After a couple of days, Luke finally worked up the nerve to ask Discord the question that'd been bothering him this whole time. "Discord," he started. The creature from another dimension looked his way, letting him know he had his attention. "Discord," he repeated, "why did you come here?" 'Well, you see that's complicated,' Discord said in his head. 'At first, I was trying dimensional travel because it was something I hadn't done much in the past. Then, once I got here and saw the state of your world, that all changed.' "What do you mean? Our world is fine!" 'Wars breaking out around the globe, corruption running through your societies, homicide rates the likes of which I've never seen. Even the environment itself seems to be perfectly content wiping as many of you off the map as it can. Tell me, Luke, does that sound fine to you.' "Well..." he trailed off. "When you put it that way..." 'My mission here has changed. I no longer want to just have fun. I want to make this world better. I want it to be a world that people like you, Maggie, and Felicity deserve before I leave.' "And how will you do that?" Luke questioned, somewhat fearful of the answer. 'Why that's simple,' replied Discord's voice. 'It's pretty easy when you have chaos magic.' "Magic?" Luke said, not quite sure why he was this surprised. I mean, what else could've allowed him to talk to them in their heads like this. Nonetheless, the prospect of magic being real was frightening. 'Yes, chaos magic to be precise.' "Is magic common in your world?" 'More than you could imagine.' Luke gulped. He tried to picture the world Discord could've come from. He failed. He couldn't quite wrap his mind around the concept of there being more of these things out there somewhere. Then, he thought of another question to ask. "Is everyone there like you?" 'No, I'm afraid not.' "Then what are they like?" 'They're pastel-colored ponies. Some of them have horns, and they can use magic. Some of them have wings. I'm pretty sure you can guess what those are for. Others don't have either, and the nation's leaders have both.' Luke was just listening to Discord talk at this point, jotting down notes in a pad of paper he'd brought. 'There are also other sentient species, like Yaks, Hippogriffs, Changelings, Kirin, Griffins, Dragons...' "So there are a lot of mythical creatures living there?" Luke interrupted. 'Well, they're only myths when we're in this world, now aren't they?' "I suppose so," Luke responded in an embarrassed fashion. 'Oh, and the animals there also seem to have higher intelligence than those I've encountered here.' "Hmmm... Interesting." Luke pondered all of this new information for a short time before he asked his next question. "How do you plan to make this world a better place?" Discord looked him dead in the eyes and flashed a bit of a mischievous grin. 'Well,' he thought into Luke's head, 'there were elements in my world that kept everything from breaking apart. If I can find a way to make copies of those elements in your world, I'm confident that it will change for the better.' "And how do you plan to do that?" 'Simple, really. Once I have my magic back, I'll be able to create copies of the elements myself.' "But..." Luke paused for a moment, not sure he really wanted to ask. "But what will these 'elements' do to this world." 'It's Equestrian magic. Powerful stuff. What should happen is that your people will become less violent over time. Embrace friendship more. The elements will help everyone stay safe during difficult times, and they'll supply a means of defense against anyone who threatens this more peaceful way of life.' "Well, that sounds nice." Luke was, of course, much more worried about Discord's plan than he was letting on. Discord, unbeknownst to Luke, already had a pretty good idea of just how much the presence of the elements would change this world. This was going to be fun to watch. 'Hopefully, my claw will heal soon. Then, I'll work my magic.'
