If You Can't Be With The One You Love

"And then we had donuts!" Minuette giggled as she emphasized her point by finishing off her own donut. Grinning at her companion she waited for the approving comment she'd come to expect.

"That's a funny story, love." Maud slowly took a bite out of her own donut, slowly chewing it as she watched Minuette.

"Thank you, thank you!" Taking a fake now Minuette smiled at her marefriend. "Whatcha wanna do now?"

Maud took another minute to finish her chewing, then slowly swallowed. "Whatever you want to do, love."

Minuette smiled and clapped her hooves together. Walking to the door and motioned for Maud to follow. She, of course, did, in silence. "Hey, Maud, you like to get our manes done don't you? I'll let you pick out my new style!"

Maia's eyes flashed and she nodded. "It will be a fun day. We could get out tails done too."

Minuette nodded vigorously and smirked. "Oh! Oh! That'll be great! We'll look so pretty!" Minuette grinned as she cantered off ahead of Maud. Though not too quickly that the grey earth pony couldn't keep up.

Minuette smiled as she looked at her new style, giggling. "I look great!" Despite the spa ponies grimaces Minuette didn't care. Her mane was more or less a fluffy birds nest, and her tail as well. It struck her as her familiar but she couldn't put her hoof on why. Turning around, Minuette grinned at Maud. Who had the same mane style, except a streak of blue down its middle. Minuette smiled and clapped her hooves happily. "It looks so good on you, Maud."

"Thank you, love." Maud's smile was almost nonexistent, but it was there. Minuette could notice it though. "What did you want to do this evening? Starlight is visiting later."

"Oh! I know Starlight!" Minuette grinned as she trotted over to maud. "We could do a picnic, I'll bring donuts!"

Maud nodded. "Can we have cupcakes instead?"

Minute nodded as well. She preferred donuts but Maud asked for so little that Minuette always gave in to any requests. "Sure!" Minuette started to reach up to pat down at least some of the birds nest of her main, but Maud raised a hoof.

"Can you keep your mane that way?"

Minuette gave a shrug and grinned. "Sure, you like it being messy?" Minuette waggled an eyebrow her best suggestive way, which due to her usually overly excited demeanor wasn't well-practiced.

Maud however rewarded Minuette with the slightest of smiled and nodded. "Yes, I do." Maud turned toward the nearest bakery and motioned with her head. Minuette following happily, humming to herself as she did so.

Maud did the ordering of the cupcakes, knowing exactly what kind she wanted. The pink ones with the pink frosting were always the most delicious from this bakery. And Minuette was just happy with any sweets she might get. And getting to spend time with her marefriend too, of course.

Everyone, even Pinkie Pie, was surprised when Minuette told them she'd started dating Maud. Minuette hadn't expected it either. But the placid pony had shown up outside her door with flowers and expressed her interest in romance. At first Minuette has assumed it was a joke, but after she was assured it was no such thing Minuette figured why not give it a try. It had been a big surprise for Minuette. While it wasn't a very exciting relationship, it was very stable. And Maud gave her lots of attention. So Minuette could be excited for the both of them. She wasn't sure what it was but that Maud liked about her, but Maud always seemed happy with their relationship. She guessed that Maud liked energy she just wasn't energetic herself.

Maud lead the way out of the bakery with the cupcakes. Heading up to a nearby park where the pair could eat cupcakes in peace. When they got up there Maid sat down as Minuette laid out a blanket to sit on, grinning at her marefriend. "You really like the pink ones don't you?" Minuette reached over and snagged a cupcake, taking a big bite out of it.

Maud nodded, taking a slow bite of her own cupcake. "Yes, I like lots of pink things." She slowly chewed, her usual quiet self, not that it seemed to bother Minuette as she chattered on about her day in her quick-talking, happy way.

Maud only ended up eating one of the cupcakes while Minuette devoured the other three, hopping back to her feet when Maud finally finished. "Hey, Maud, wanna go down to the stores? I'll buy you another pretty rock!" She bounced happily in place, hopping excitedly on her hooves.

Maud took a long moment, longer than her usual slow response to watch Minuette, a slow smile forming until Minuette stopped her hopping and it disappeared. "Oh, thank you, but I have to meet Starlight." Minuette nodded as they set off down the hill. But Maud wasn't finished. "You know, I like it when you're excited."

Minuet tilted her head. "I'm still excited! I'll get you the pretty rock while you meet with Starlight then come back!"

Maud nodded slowly. "Ok. But I don't know you're excited if I can't see it."

Minuette thought for a moment before grinning and starting to hop again as they traveled. Now hopping forwards instead of walking. "Like this?"

Maud nodded. "Much better." She waved as they walked toward the train stop, they were a little late and Starlight's train had already come in, but she was waiting by the train stop.

Starlight smiled and waved back at Maud, hopping over to her. "Hello Maud, Minuette, how are you?"

Minuette grinned as she circled around Starlight. "We're good, but I promised to get Maud something!"

As Minuette rushed off Starlight raised an eyebrow at Maud. "Huh... Minuette's acting... Differently, and is that a new mane style? Makes me think of Pinkie."

Maud smiled widely at Minuette's back as she hopped off. "I know."
