211. Under the Moonlight

Pinkie Pie was standing on the floor next to the bed, not jumping on the bed even though she wanted to, in her mom’s room in the Canterlot Inn. This was it! It was Gala time, and everyone was super nervous!

Especially Pinkie’s mom, Cloudy Quartz, who was trying to apply her earrings but her fingers were shaking and making it difficult. She looked really nice in the super fancy dress that Luna had given her; it was really reserved and cool, but super elegant too. Perfect for Cloudy, Pinkie thought.

It wasn’t nearly as cute as Pinkie’s dress though, which was hot pink and blue and had little candy corns on it and had little frills and a cute bow on the collar. It was a gift from Luna as well, or more specifically from Luna’s girlfriend Fleur de Lis, who designed Rarity’s party, and Cloudy, dresses to wear to the Gala, and Pinkie couldn’t have been happier to wear hers!

“Do you need some help, mom?” Pinkie asked concernedly as she watched her mom fumble with her earrings for what felt like the third consecutive hour.

“No, dear,” Cloudy chuckled as she finally got the ring into place. “I’ve got it. Thank you though.”

“I wasn’t talking about the earring,” Pinkie said. “I mean, do you need any help calming down? Or hyping up? I’m a lot better at the second one, but I can try the first one since it’s you.”

“Thank you, sweetheart, but I’m fine,” Cloudy said sweetly, spinning around and watching the trail of her dress. “I’m the exact proper amount of nervous one should be, when they’re going on a date with a Princess for the first time.”

“Pfffft, c’mon, what’s to be nervous about?” Pinkie scoffed, batting both hands in a dismissive manner. “You’re just dating a Princess!”

“I appreciate your optimism, Pinkie Pie,” Cloudy rolled her eyes playfully and exited through the door, Pinkie following her onto the snow-dripped streets of Canterlot, the city lit up in neon under the moonlight in celebration of the Grand Galloping Gala.

“I’m sure she’s just as excited to see you,” Pinkie suggested. Who wouldn’t be excited to date Cloudy? She was a super cool lady!

“I’m sure she is too,” Cloudy said softly, “but I can’t get my heart to stop pounding. She’s just—” Cloudy bit her lip, and Pinkie giggled into her hands; she recognized that look. “You don’t understand, Pinkie Pie, how amazing Luna is.”

“She’s just as amazing as you are, I bet,” Pinkie said proudly, Cloudy giggling. If Pinkie was gonna have to be her mom’s hype squad all the way to the castle where the Gala was taking place, then she was gonna do just that!

“Besides, it’s not just her,” Cloudy explained. “Meeting the woman I love in the waking world for the first time is reason enough to be a little anxious, Princess or no, but meeting the other woman that she loves for the first time as well? I want to make sure I make a good impression.”

“You’re gonna make the best impression,” Pinkie said confidently but softly, just to make sure Cloudy knew she was super serious. She also pumped her fist a little for good measure.

The rest of the walk to the Gala was spent in silence, which was hard as heck for Pinkie but she knew her mom was a quiet gal and appreciated her thoughtful time, and Pinkie could respect that. This was her night after all, at least until they got there, and then Pinkie could go off on her own wild adventures!

The two women arrived at the massive-ass— way too big if you asked Pinkie Pie— stairway that led into the royal plaza in front of the castle. There were a few stray ponies coming and going around them, but neither Pinkie nor Cloudy paid them any mind once they saw the towering blue alicorn waiting for them at the foot of the stairs.

Luna was supporting the wall just by the stairs, ponies walking by without paying her any notice as she stood shadowed by the wall of the royal plaza, and she pushed herself off of it with her wings, her eyes sparkling as they met Cloudy.

“My love,” Luna took Cloudy’s hand and gave it a gentle kiss, Cloudy biting her lip and putting her other hand against her blazing cheek. Luna leaned in to kiss Cloudy on the lips and she purred, humming gently as she was consumed by Luna’s embrace. “Welcome to Canterlot, and to my home, my dearest.”

“Oh,” Cloudy put a hand over her chest and stammered, “w-why thank you, Prin— er, Luna, I should say. I’m sorry, I’m nervous.”

“It’s quite alright,” Luna smiled politely, but then she gave a catlike grin and her ears folded back as she shrunk into herself. “To be quite honest, I’m nervous too… I’ve been looking forward to meeting you so much, and I just wanted to make sure everything was perfect fo—”

Cloudy silenced Luna by grabbing her mane and pulling on it lightly, bringing her lips into smooching range so Cloudy could lay one on her, and this time it was Luna who was purring as she held Cloudy tight.

“Everything is perfect,” Cloudy whispered, “because I’m with you.”

“Howdy!” Pinkie Pie beamed, waving at a now distinctly embarrassed Luna and Cloudy Quartz who maybe had forgotten Pinkie was there. “Sorry to interrupt, but there’s only so much I can watch my mom making out before it feels really weird? I’m Pinkie Pie!”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Pinkie Pie,” Luna bowed her head, and held out her hand, Pinkie’s just barely reaching it due to the size difference. Luna was literally like, at least two-and-a-half-Pinkies tall. “I’ve heard much about you, from Cloudy of course, but also from Rarity. I’ve been looking forward to meeting y—”

“HELLLOOOOOO DARLINGS!” a dainty, yet very loud, woman’s voice cut through the quiet atmosphere and all three women present turned to see the source; a tall ivory unicorn with an absolute ocean of pale pink hair, dressed in a slim cocktail dress that hugged her every feature. “I’m so sorry I’m late!”

The unicorn didn’t hesitate to kiss Luna right on the lips, which gave away her identity to Pinkie; this must’ve been Fleur de Lis. She wasn’t exactly subtle or reserved like Cloudy was, but Pinkie couldn’t argue with the smitten smile on Luna’s face as her lips disconnected from Fleur’s.

“Oh!” Fleur gasped, hand over her heart. “You must be Cloudy Quartz! Sweetheart, please! It’s such an honor to finally meet you!”

Fleur kissed Cloudy on the cheek, her eyes springing wide open as she stumbled back a step, Fleur pursing her lips and presenting her cheek to Cloudy for a moment, who simply stared in stunned silence.

“Fleur,” Luna put her hand on Fleur’s shoulder, the dainty unicorn almost looking like she was gonna collapse under the weight of the giant alicorn, “Cloudy is much more reserved in her affection than you are, please give her some space and patience.”

“Mm! Right, I am so sorry,” Fleur said, waving her hands about and backing up behind Luna, squeezing her butt for a sec— which made Luna yelp and it was adorable— and bowing her head. “I got a little overexcited, it happens, I can be a bit of an airhead, especially around beautiful women and oh, my, stars do you look ravishing in that dress!”

“Th-thank you,” Cloudy rubbed the back of her neck and blushed, her posture stiff as a board. “You did an excellent job on it.”

“I know I did, honey, I can see it with my own eyes,” Fleur snapped her fingers and grunted excitedly, swishing her hips as she looked Cloudy up and down.

“Thank you again,” Cloudy chuckled, and it seemed like she was actually starting to loosen up just a wee bit, and Pinkie couldn’t have been more excited!

But that said…

“Hey!” Pinkie said, clapping her hands. “I’m gonna leave you lovebirds alone, cuz I also got a hot date!”

“Thank you for taking care of me, Pinkie,” Cloudy said with a smile, and Pinkie saluted her. “I love you, and I’ll see you tonight, or maybe tomorrow?”

Definitely tomorrow,” Luna whispered, Cloudy’s ears flicking up and the brightest smile Pinkie’d ever seen crossing her lips. Luna cleared her throat and bowed to Pinkie. “It was a pleasure meeting you, Pinkie Pie. I look forward to getting to know you better soon… i-if you’re interested, that is.”

“Of course I’m interested!” Pinkie beamed.

“Of course she’s interested,” Fleur scoffed, hands on her hips and bumping one into Luna’s. “You’re Princess Luna. Who is she, by the way?”

“That’s my daughter,” Cloudy said, Fleur immediately jumping in surprise.

“OH! Sorry, sorry, I didn’t recognize you!” Fleur grabbed Pinkie’s hand and shook it vigorously, making Pinkie’s head spin. “You look adorable in that dress! You’re gonna knock all the ladies dead at the Gala, little pink!”

“Thank you so much!” Pinkie said with a gleaming smile, and then she waved her mom and pals goodbye as she took off for the stairs. If she let herself get distracted any more she’d be there for hours, and that wasn’t fair to her dates, or her plans for that matter. “Talk to y’all later!”

Pinkie was gonna knock all the ladies dead! Not literally dead, but you know! First though, she just had to get up the stairs! No big deal!

Pinkie took off up the stairs like a rocket, though she got winded like maybe halfway through, or maybe more? She was probably almost there by the time she was panting and gasping for breath, and being in the big floofy pretty dress didn’t help her cover much ground either, but she was almost there! Just a few more steps and she’d be—

“Pinkie Pie?” Luna asked softly, standing at the foot of the stairs mere inches from Pinkie. “Do you need some help?”

“Yes, please,” Pinkie said bashfully, and in a crack of magic Pinkie was teleported into the royal plaza, flocks of ponies gathered around her and the majestic castle towering over her.

Now she was ready to knock ‘em dead.
