Flurry Heart

My name is Sombra and I'm sitting in the kitchen in Cadence's home facing my biggest problem ever. No, I did not enslave any creature. Though I do not blame you for assuming that happened. No, my biggest problem is this little ball of mischief in front of me. Her name is Flurry Heart, and she is Cadence and Shining's daughter. I’m currently helping them raise her, oddly enough, I have been for the past couple of weeks.

Discord and I were only supposed to stay for a small amount of time but Cadence insisted that we stay, permanently. She really, desperately, needs help. She lessened her staff to not expose her secrets but that meant she had to do more. I take whatever I can off her hooves, so does Discord. We are in on that secret, see it’s Flurry heart, my biggest problem. She is very, very powerful and Cadence is worried about what will happen if some-creature found out. That’s not why she is my problem, no. Discord and I are also very powerful we have a good hold on the situation, most of the time. We put out one hundred thousand and twenty fires in total since we began working here, which is very good. Or at least I think it is.

Flurry Heart is my biggest problem because she won’t eat this cupcake I brought her. I teleported all the way to Ponyville to get it. Straight from Pinkie Pie, who makes the best cupcakes. I sat it down in front of Flurry, but she just keeps gargling at me. I do not understand why.

“Hello Sombra”

“Oh hello Cadence,” I turned to face her, she just got out of one of her meetings and now she had an hour break. Those were something I squeezed into her schedule. You should have seen it before, that mare had no time for anything.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m feeding Flurry a cupcake,” obviously, I mean what did you think I was doing? Taking over the empire? Ha, I'm so funny.

“You can’t do that!”

I watched as she ran over and levitated it away from Flurry Heart, “well why not?’ I asked Cadence, Flurry was right there. She could have a cupcake if she wanted to.

“What do you mean why not?”

Was she tricking me somehow? “I mean why not, Cadence she has every right to eat that cupcake,” I yelled. Was she forbidding Flurry from eating a cupcake? How could she? Cupcake-less for her whole life that was incredibly mean of Cadence. Is this one of those mother things? Or maybe Cadence has gone insane?

“She can’t Sombra...she isn’t old enough.”

“Wait what? What is that supposed to mean, is there some weird law somewhere stating you can’t have a cupcake before a certain amount of time? That’s a really terrible law, you should change it.” I'll have to talk to 'Tia later. Her idiocy knows no bounds. Forbidding cupcake consumption like that. Surely there is a way I can convince 'Tia to look the other way. This is her adopted niece after all. I'm sure she could be easily bribed.

----

“Sombra….are you kidding me? This is a joke right?” Cadence asked, her heartbeat had quickened, and she held her breath as she waited for an answer. He had to be kidding, there was no way he wasn’t kidding.

“No, I'm being serious,” Sombra said, why wouldn’t he be serious about this?

“Oh my….just one moment,” She said as she summoned Discord into the room with the whistle she kept around her neck. It could call just one of them if she chose so, or both. He had to be here.

“Yes, Cadence?” Discord said, wondering as to why he was called here.

“Get 'Tia,” Cadence demanded. Celestia had to be here, she just had to be. She had to witness this, whatever this was going to end up being. Because it was definitely going to be interesting.

Discord snapped and Celestia was in the room. “Uhhh why am I here?” She asked she was about to take her lunch break when she found herself in Cadence’s kitchen.

“Sombra is trying to feed Flurry a cupcake.” Cadence started to explain but Celestia interrupted her with the question of the day.

“Why?” Celestia had been called here, for this. A cupcake? If this didn’t get interesting soon she was going to be very angry. This was her break, she wouldn’t get another until dinner time. Although anytime Cadence called her, it was usually worth her time. Last time was a pillow fight so this time had to be interesting too, right?

“Because she has a right to eat cupcakes, Why can’t she just eat it Cadence? Is she allergic?” Sombra said, was she? He had no idea, if she was he would be more careful from now on but that was an unfortunate allergy.

Discord and Celestia’s eyes went wide. They looked at one another then back at Sombra. It took everything Discord had to not interrupt, but he just had to see where this was going. For now. He could join in a little later.

“Sombra she is too young,” Celestia said, her head swam with questions. Was she being pranked? She had seen the look on Discord's face if she was being pranked he was not in on it. Which lessened the chance she was being pranked. He was always involved.

“So there is a law forbidding cupcake consumption before a certain age? Why would you do that Celestia?” Sombra asked as he struggled to understand what was happening around him. What was wrong? Why?

“Sombra you must be joking,” Celestia said as she settled on that idea. He just had to be, there was no way he was being serious.

“I am NOT joking,” Sombra angrily said. He was starting to get fed up with the situation. Was he being made fun of? Was he being pranked?

“Sombra….you do know what a baby is...and how to get it….right?” Cadence dared to ask, may as well start there.

PUMPKIN PATCH! Yes I know, Cadence and Shining have sex, Cadence gives birth. Now you got a tiny version of the two of them running around.” It was obvious to Sombra that this was the answer. How could he be wrong? Did they not know what a baby was? That would be impossible Cadence had one.

“Maybe in your own words, you could tell us what a baby is,” Celestia said as the fact that this situation was real, it was happening, it wasn’t a joke, dawned on her. She tried to hold back the laughter building inside of her at the sheer ridiculousness of the situation.

“A baby is just a smaller version of you,” Sombra stated in a manner of fact way.

“Maybe...you could explain it further because I think there is something we are missing,” Celestia added, she certainly was missing something.

“FINE I'll just show you,” he said as he levitated Cadence over to himself. “See this alicorn?”

“Yes,” Cadence, Celestia, and even Discord answered though it took him all he had not to add anything else. He just needed to see where this was going, he felt whatever would be said was going to be insane.

“This alicorn,” he said, pointing to Cadence. “And this tinier version," he said pointing to Flurry. "Are pretty much the same thing. This one is just smaller so that birth is easier. When I have a conversation with Cadence she knows, and responds and is aware of what I am saying. So is Flurry Heart. She is just the same thing Cadence is just smaller, meaning she can eat this cupcake. She can eat whatever she wants, Cadence can eat whatever she wants.”

“Oooooo I see,” Celestia said as she poorly tried to cover her laughter but Discord saved her the effort of trying too hard.

“HAHAHAHAH, NO SOMBRA NO, THAT’S NOT HOW BABIES WORK,” Discord said as he finally cracked. He had been holding his breath by the sideline. The situation was so uniquely chaotic that he was afraid to interrupt it. Though he could no longer hold back, it was just too funny. He had to be involved.

Celestia cracked after Discord, and she lay her head on the table, quaking in laughter. "Hahahahaha!"

Sombra put Cadence down, slightly hurt he didn’t understand what was funny. He was so confused. “I don’t understand,” he sadly said. It was clear now that he was being made fun of.

Cadence took a deep breath she had been laughing too. It was funny but Sombra didn’t understand why. “Sombra, she doesn't know what is happening.”

“She….isn’t sentient? Well, why are you taking care of her if she isn’t sentient?” Sombra went from sad to angry. All this work for something that won't have a single thought ever? "Why not just throw her in a closet and forget about her?" He really should have asked more questions at the start of this.

Celestia just laughed harder “HAHAHA! Oh my...well. me. I have to tell Luna.” She said as she teleported away to go tell her sister what just happened. It was oh so funny, and she knew her sister would get a laugh out of it. Then she would tell Twilight after that. Something else burned at her mind. Flurry, and Discord, he was oddly...responsible. In her head, Sombra and Discord were just getting in the way, not helping but it looked to be the opposite. She wasn't sure what to do with that information.

Discord snapped and a portal opened, which he soon stepped through. He would teleport all the way to Ponyville, but he was worried it would hurt Flurry. This would be just fine though, he had somewhere to go, a pony to see. IS SHE SENTIENT? He went straight to Fluttershy. He just HAD to tell her all about this. It was the funniest thing to have ever happened, ever. He never stopped laughing.

“First of all, her body has to grow, she is still feeding on milk, it has to be a slow transition to food. She doesn't even have her teeth yet. Secondly, she isn’t conscious. You have to grow into it, you grow into consciousness. Flurry Heart will grow up, learn from her mistakes, and have her own family. Her brain is still growing, learning she isn’t just born knowing everything. Were you born with all of that?” Cadence asked she was glad Discord and Celestia were gone. They had been laughing up a storm and while this was funny. She could tell Sombra found it frustrating. It was funny but not for him.

Sombra looked back over to make sure Celestia was no longer there he was about to spill….sensitive information. “Yes.”

“Well- wait, what?” Cadence was going to explain to him how it wasn’t much different from how he was made.

“Yes,” Sombra repeated, he wasn’t lying either.

“WAIT WHAT?” Cadence yelled, surprised by the sudden information. He was what now?

“I was made with magic.” Sombra said in the same way one may say ‘i had toast for breakfast.’

“How did you find out about...you know what I don’t want to know. I didn’t know that was possible who-” Cadence had a million questions, a million and one, no, more than that. Her head swam with assumptions. She needed clarification.

“Well, it is. Consider this one of those friend things where you tell ponies stuff about yourself when it is brought up. That’s what you do right. Did I do this right? I thought you wanted to know more about Discord and I. You always say you do...were you kidding?” Sombra asked.

“Yes, Sombra you did just fine. No, I wasn’t kidding, I do want to know more about you both. I just have a thousand questions. Could you maybe tell me more? Who are your parents? Do you even have parents?” It was a question that itched at Cadence’s mind since she first met them but the question that truly burned her was. Where were they? If you had them, where were they? Where did they go? Why didn’t they help you during your overtake? Or help us?

“This...was a mistake, I shouldn't have said anything,” Sombra said as he ran out of the kitchen and to his room. He hadn't expected so many questions. He hadn't expected to wrong about Flurry, to make that kind of mistake. It was quite overwhelming. He felt so stupid. Would she keep that information to herself? He hoped so.

“Sombra wait!” Cadence yelled but it was too late he was already gone. She sat in her kitchen, her head still swimming with unanswered questions. How was she supposed to get either of them to open up? They were like stone walls, both of them. When she did get a bit of information either by accident or in passing. They would completely shut her out, ignore her, pretend she didn’t know. Especially Discord, he was very stubborn. While she had an easier time with Sombra, he still gave her quite the runaround. What could she do? How could she help them more? How will she connect to them?
