Turquoise finally made it to Vermillion City and was on her way to the Pokemon Center to meet up with her friends to tell them about the journey from Cerulean City to here. As soon as she got there she asked Nurse Joy if she had seen them yet.

“ I saw those three a while ago. The purple-haired one with glasses wanted to challenge LT Surge as soon as possible,” Nurse Joy said. As soon as she asked Rarity and the others showed up with Twilight looking sad. After Twilight gave her Pokemon to Nurse Joy Turquoise guessed why twilight looked sad.

“ Let me guess your Gym Battle did not go so well?” Turquoise asked.

“ It’s not just that darling it's what the Gym Leader LT Surge said to her after he beat her that has her so sad,” Rarity pointed out.

“ What did he say?” Turquoise asked.

“ You’re the weakest,” Twilight said while flashbacking to the rest of what was said.

“ The weakest maggot to have ever challenged me now get out of my gym and don't come back until you evolve those wimps,” LT Surge said in the flashback.

“ Yikes. And I thought Gym Leaders were supposed to be nice and friendly like Forrest and Misty,” Turquoise said.

“ Well, this guy is a might tougher than they were,” Applejack said.

“ But enough about him tell us about your journey,” Rarity said.

“ Well I met this trainer named Selena who is also a Coordinator with both forms of Ninetails,” Turquoise said.

“ Did you say both forms as in a Kantonian and Alolan Ninetails?” Twilight asked feeling a bit better.

“ Yep and she wanted to take my Vulpix away from me so she ran away in a panic,” Turquoise said.

“ Did you manage to get her back?” Rarity asked.

“ Luckily she found a nice breeder named Fluttershy who managed to take care of her for me while I was looking,” Turquoise said while surprising everyone.

“ You met Fluttershy? How are she and Scorbunny doing?” Twilight asked.

“ Pretty good she helped me handle the situation and even gave my Vulpix the chance to prove herself ready to evolve,” Turquoise said.

“ Nice what else did you do?” Rarity asked.

“ I arrived in South Blue City just in time for the Princess Festival,” Turquoise said.

“ Princess Festival?” All three of them asked.

“ It’s a special holiday celebrated here in Kanto for Girls and Women and I even won this Pokemon Egg by winning the Queen of The Princess Festival Competition,” Turquoise said while showing them her egg.

“ Wow that is one fine egg if I ever did see one,” Applejack said.

“ And it’s getting close to hatching,” Turquoise said.

“ What about that Contest in Canvas City, how did that go?” Rarity asked.

“ I won it despite being at a type disadvantage. It came down to me and Selena in the final round with her Gabite against my Ninetails,” Turquoise said. “ How was the Saffron Contest by the way?

“ It was tight but I managed to win,” Rarity said.

“ Cool,” Turquoise said. “ Anyway back to my story. I challenged Rick to a rematch and won and saved a Pokemon Sanctuary.

“ Sounds like you had quite the adventure,” Twilight said.

“ I did. Now that I shared my story. Twilight why don't you tell me a bit about the gym?” Turquoise said.

“ Very well. The Vermillion City Gym is an Electric-Type Gym and the Gym Leader LT Surge is the meanest drill Sergeant you ever met and has a dislike of trainers with unevolved pokemon,” Twilight said.

“ By any chance have you caught any ground type Pokemon?” Applejack asked.

“ All I have is what I caught so far. Some of my Pokemon have evolved,” Turquoise said.

“ Then you may want to find one,” Twilight said.

“ Sorry for eavesdropping but if you’re looking for Ground-Type Pokemon then try Diglett’s cave it has every ground-type from every known region,” Nurse Joy said.

“ Is it far?” Turquoise asked.

“ No, it’s just outside the city limits,” Nurse Joy said.

“ Then let’s get going,” Turquoise said before realizing the others were not following her.

“ Uh, Turquoise do you even know where you’re going?” Twilight asked.

“ Of course I do. It’s the cave past the docks right?” Turquoise asked. After arriving at Diglett’s cave and going down the ladder Turquoise saw a lot of different Pokemon. As she was walking she suddenly noticed a steep sand trap ahead and stopped in time to avoid it but she dropped one of her Pokeballs which rolled down the slope and caused some orange creature with a big mouth to pop out at the center of the trap and get hit by the Pokeball without realizing it. After shaking a few times and clicking shut the sand suddenly stopped moving and Turquoise retrieved her Pokeball. “ Not exactly a proper catch but I suppose that would work too. After exiting the cave Turquoise called out her new pokemon and then pulled out her Pokedex to see what she just caught.

“ Trapinch. The Ant Pit Pokemon. It makes an inescapable conical pit and lies in wait at the bottom for prey to come tumbling down,” The Pokedex said.

“ Not what I had in mind but you will do nicely,” Turquoise said. After returning to the Pokemon Center Turquoise showed Rarity and the others her new Trapinch.

“ Are you sure this Trapinch will win you the match?” Applejack asked.

“ I looked up his moves. He has Dig, Bulldoze, Sand Tomb, and Crunch which is not a bad array of moves. Plus a little beginner’s luck might work for me just like it did at the Cerulean City Gym,” Turquoise said.

“ Just be careful LT Surge is pretty strong and his partner Pokemon is the toughest opponent you will ever face,” Twilight said. As soon as everyone was ready they all went to the Gym which was a warehouse-like building with the gym logo on it. As soon as they went inside a loud booming voice was heard.

“ Ten Hut, which one of you babies is my next challenger,” A tall muscular man with yellow hair wearing a military outfit shouted before Turquoise stepped up.

“ I am your next challenger,” Turquoise said which caused the man to laugh.

“ You? Don't make me laugh, you look more like one of those sissy coordinators,” The man said.

“ I’m guessing you must be LT. Surge?” Turquoise said.

“ You got it, baby. I’m the Lightning American, The commanding Officer of this operation, and the Gym Leader of this gym. So if it's a badge you want then bring it baby,” LT. Surge said. After both Turquoise and LT. Surge took their positions on the battlefield a man dressed in a shoulders uniform with a matching beret took his position at the referee spot.

“ The battle between LT. Surge the Gym Leader and Turquoise the Challenger will now begin. This will be a three on three battle and the battle will be over when all three of either side’s pokemon are unable to continue. Furthermore, only the challenger is permitted to substitute their pokemon,” The ref said.

“ Sounds good to me,” Turquoise said.

“ We shall see if I can break that spirit of yours baby,” LT. Surge said.

“ Let the battle begin,” The ref said as both LT. Surge and Turquoise pulled out their first pokemon.

“ Vikavolt, Forward March,” LT. Surge said as he threw his first Pokeball which popped open and unleashed a stag beetle like pokemon with sharp edges which creeped Rarity out a bit due to the fact it was part bug-type.

“ What kind of Pokemon is that?” Turquoise said before pulling out her Pokedex.

“ Vikavolt. The Stag Beetle Pokemon. It zips around, on a sharp lookout for an opening. It concentrates electrical energy within its large jaws and uses it to zap its enemies,” The Pokedex said.

“ Great, a flying opponent. I know they told me he was tougher than any Gym Leader I thought thus far but really,” Turquoise said in her mind.

“ I hoped you weren’t planning on using Ground Type attacks because my Vikavolt is immune to them thanks to its levitate ability,” LT. Surge said.

“ Good thing I’m not using any yet. Go Ninetails,” Turquoise said as she threw her Pokeball which popped open and unleashed Ninetails.

“ Yay Vulpix has evolved into a lovely and elegant looking Ninetails,” Rarity said.

“ Vikavolt use Thunderbolt. Vikavolt unleashed its thunderbolt on Ninetails which did not faze Turquoise.

“ Use Flamethrower. Ninetails unleashed her Flamethrower and managed to try and push back Vikavolt’s Thunderbolt which resulted in both moves exploding. “ Ninetails use another Flamethrower. Ninetails unleashed another Flamethrower which Surge was ready for.

“ Vikavolt use Double Team. Vikavolt split into many copies of itself waiting to see how Turquoise reacts to it.

“ Ninetails switch to Fire Blast. Flamethrower then split into five directions and managed to nail some of the fakes while the real one hovered above.

“ Vikavolt use ElectroWeb. Vikavolt suddenly spat out a web made of electricity that managed to trap Ninetails and shock her if she tried to move.

“ What did you do to my Ninetails?” Turquoise said in a panicked tone.

“ I slowed her down, that's what. Electroweb is a move that slows the opponent down as well as damages them. Now for the finisher. Vikavolt use Guillotine. Vikavolt’s pincers began to glow white as they spread wide open like it was ready to decapitate Ninetails.

“ We won,t let you do that. Ninetails use Flamethrower while spinning. Ninetails leaped into the air and used Flamethrower while spinning in mid-air and created a wall of fire around herself that managed to nail Vikavolt from all sides thus knocking it out.

“ Vikavolt is unable to Battle. Ninetails is the winner,” The ref said as he pointed his right flag at Turquoise.

“ Vikavolt Return. You served our gym proud now rest. Tell me, baby, where did you learn to use that counter shield?” LT. Surge asked.

“ Is that what that was? I just went with it hoping to stop your Vikavolt from decapitating my Ninetails,” Turquoise said.

“ In any case, let's see how you handle my next Pokemon. Heliolisk forward march,” LT. Surge said as he threw another Pokeball that popped open and unleashed a yellow and black frill lizard-like creature.

“ Helio,” Heliolisk said.

“ What is that?” Turquoise asked while pulling out her Pokedex.

“ Heliolisk. The Generator Pokemon. They flare their frills and generate energy. A single Heliolisk can generate sufficient electricity to power a skyscraper,” The Pokedex said.

“ Ninetails return. I may need you later. Time for some beginner’s luck. Go Trapinch,” Turquoise said as she threw her next Pokeball which popped open and unleashed Trapinch which made LT. Surge laugh.

“ That is your next pokemon, it looks weak,” LT. Surge said.

“ Never underestimate a pokemon especially my ground type,” Turquoise said.

“ Either way It's no match for my Heliolisk. Heliolisk use Rain Dance. Heliolisk sent a ball made of water into the air and created a bunch of clouds inside the gym which caused it to rain.

“ What was the point of that?” Turquoise asked.

“ You will see but for now Heliolisk use Focus Blast. Heliolisk focused the energy in its arms and fired a ball made of white energy at Trapinch who looked confused until Turquoise reacted.

“ Trapinch use Dig. Trapinch burrowed underground in time to avoid the Focus Blast and was heading towards Heliolisk and popped out of the ground in time to nail Heliolisk and send it back a few feet only for the rain to heal it a little.

“ That is my Heliolisk’s Dry skin ability which allows it to recover damage during rain,” LT. Surge said. Heliolisk use Razor Wind. Heliolisk began to channel its power into his frills and then spun around sending razor-sharp blades of air at Trapinch who took a ton of damage but managed to survive.

“ I will admit that Trapinch sure has spirit if it can survive Razor Wind like that,” LT. Surge said.

“ Thanks and here is our next trick. Trapinch use Sand Tomb. A bunch of wet sand began to rise beneath Heliolisk before trapping it and damaging it. “ Now use Bulldoze. Trapinch leaped into the air and landed on the ground thus causing it to shake. Heliolisk struggled desperately to escape the Sand Tomb but failed and took a ton of damage and fainted.

“ Heliolisk is unable to battle Trapinch is the winner,” The ref said as he pointed his right flag at Turquoise

“ Heliolisk return. You were excellent out there now rest. I hope you're ready because my partner is going to tip the scales back in my favor. Raichu forward march,” .LT. Surge said as he threw his third Pokeball which popped open and unleashed a big orange mouse with a long tail with a thunderbolt on the end of which looked determined to win.

“ Rai rai,” Raichu said while punching his front paws together.

“ So that is a Raichu,” Turquoise said before pulling out her Pokedex.

“ Raichu. The Mouse Pokemon. Its long tail serves as a ground to protect itself from its own high-voltage power,” The Pokedex said.

“ I will stick with my Trapinch,” Turquoise said.

“ Suit yourself, baby. Raichu use Iron Tail on Trapinch. Raichu’s tail suddenly turned to metal as he leaped into the air and prepared to slam his tail on Trapinch.

“ Trapinch use Dig to dodge. Trapinch burrowed underground and successfully dodged Iron tail.

“ That won’t save you this time. Raichu use Brick Break and wait for Trapinch to pop out of the ground. Raichu’s left arm was covered in a white glow as it waited for Trapinch to attack. As soon as Trapinch came out of the ground Raichu delivered a powerful hit to Trapinch’s head that knocked it out.

“ Trapinch is unable to battle Raichu is the winner,” The ref said as he pointed his left flag at LT. Surge.

“ Trapinch Return. You did awesomely for your first-ever battle now rest. Turquoise took careful thought into who to send out next until she decided. Go Ninetails. Ninetails returned to the battle-ready to continue while her Drought Ability kicked in and replaced the rain with sunlight. Ninetails use Fire Blast. Ninetails unleashed her Fire Blast which did not faze LT. Surge in the slightest.

“ Raichu use ThunderPunch on that Fire Blast. Raichu’s right arm was charged in electricity as he punched the Fire Blast and used it to increase the amount of damage he inflicted on Ninetails.

“ Ninetails use Confuse Ray. Ninetails unleashed a ball of yellow light that hit Raichu and confused him.

“ Raichu use Iron Tail. Raichu suddenly hit himself with his own tail multiple times thus damaging him slightly. “ What did you do to my Raichu?

“ That's the effect of Confuse Ray; it confuses the Pokemon it is used on,” Turquoise said. “ Ninetails use Flamethrower. Ninetails unleashed her Flamethrower and managed to nail Raichu for some major damage but not enough to beat him.

“ Raichu use Thunderbolt. Raichu managed to unleash Thunderbolt and nailed Ninetails for enough damage to knock her out.

“ Ninetails is unable to battle Raichu is the winner,” The ref said as he pointed his left flag at LT. Surge.

“ Ninetails return. You were awesome as always. now take a good rest. Turquoise considered what she had left and made her choice. “ Go Ivysaur. Turquoise unleashed her Ivysaur who looked ready to battle.

“ Saur,” Ivysaur said.

“ Ivysaur let’s start with Poison Powder. Ivysaur unleashed his Poison Powder which did not faze LT. Surge in the slightest. Raichu took it and acted like it did nothing.

“ You're going to need something better than that if you want to beat my Raichu,” LT. Surge said. “ Raichu use Brick Break. Raichu charged at Ivysaur with his left arm glowing and managed to hit Ivysaur square on the head. Ivysaur stood his ground and then pushed Raichu back before glowing.

“ Looks like Ivysaur is evolving,” Twilight said as Ivysaur’s body began to grow bigger and the bud on his back began to bloom into a lovely flower with a thick stem. As soon as the flash died down a bigger green plant creature with a giant pink flower with a thick stem stood where Ivysaur once did.

“ Venusaur,” The creature said.

“ Looks like my Ivysaur evolved just when I needed him to,” Turquoise said while pulling out her Pokedex.

“ Venusaur. The Seed Pokemon and the final evolved form of Bulbasaur. Its plant blooms when it is absorbing solar energy. It stays on the move to seek sunlight,” The Pokedex said. Turquoise also noticed that Venusaur learned a new move upon evolving.

“ So what if your Ivysaur evolved I will still win. Raichu use ThunderPunch. Raichu charged at Venusaur with his arm glowing with electricity which did not faze Turquoise at all.

“ Let’s show them your new attack. Venusaur use Petal Blizzard. Venusaur sent out a violent breeze of pink flower petals that managed to nail Raichu and as soon as the blizzard died down Raichu was knocked out.

“ Raichu is unable to battle. Venusaur is the winner which means the match goes to Turquoise the Challenger,” The ref said as Turquoise ran to hug her Venusaur with joy.

“ You did it Venusaur you won us the match and evolved,” Turquoise said as Venusaur smiled.

“ Kid that was a great battle so as proof of your victory here at the Vermillion City gym I present you with the Thunder Badge,” LT. Surge said before giving Turquoise her Thunder Badge.

“ Thanks, Lt. Surge,” Turquoise said.

“ So where are you kids off too next?” LT. Surge asked.

“ I’m off to find the next Gym or Contest,” Turquoise said.

“ Then might I suggest the gym in Celadon City? I have a feeling you will love the Gym Leader there,” LT. Surge said.

“ Applejack where is Celadon City?” Turquoise asked which prompted her to look it up.

“ It’s west of Saffron City which is a big problem,” Applejack said.

“ Why?” Turquoise asked.

“ You see darling the day after the Saffron Contest Team Supernova managed to gain control of Silph Co and seized control of the entire city now no one may enter or leave. We were lucky to get out before they closed the gates,” Rarity explained.

“ Well, this is bad if we can’t get through Saffron City then how will I get to Celadon City?” Turquoise asked.

“ I might have a solution for that. Why not take the Rock Tunnel. It will take you to Lavender Town which is east of Saffron City,” LT. Surge said.

“ Sounds like a great idea. There is a contest coming up in Lavender Town,” Rarity said.

“ Where is the Rock Tunnel?” Turquoise asked.

“ It’s east of Cerulean City and before you point out the same issue there is an underground tunnel on the outskirts of Saffron City that connects Vermillion City with Cerulean City there is also a tunnel that connects Lavender Town with Celadon City. People don't use them much because it's quicker and faster to just cut through Saffron City,” LT. Surge said.

“ Well girls I'm off,” Turquoise said before Twilight stopped her.

“ Wait, Turquoise let us come with you. We are going in the same direction after all,” Twilight said.

“ But your rematch,” Turquoise said.

“ Well then you better help me with my training so I can get that Thunder Badge quickly,” Twilight said.

“ I guess I can wait a bit longer,” Turquoise said.

“ Then lets all head back to the Pokemon Center for the night,” Applejack said.
