Interlude - Twilight

With her friends’ support, Sunset felt a weight being lifted off her shoulders. However, she still didn’t have an answer for what her purpose is and she still had no idea how to go back to her world. Not to mention, the peace and quiet is starting to unsettle her somehow. It’s peaceful. Sunset thought to herself as her eyes darted to her left, where she could see ponies happily chatting with one another. Too peaceful. Her eyes darted to the right, where some ponies were sharing a drink. Shaking her head, she let out a deep sigh.

“C’mon, snap out of it, Sunset. Calm down. I’m sure everything’s fine.” She drew several deep breaths. What if this peace and quiet is just a ruse to make me let my guard down before something big happens? It’s not foreshadowing something, is it? She looked around again, only to see the same peacefulness and tranquillity from a few seconds ago. Ok, this is ridiculous. Nothing’s going to happen. Stop being so paranoid, Sunset Shimmer! Everything’s fi- A loud rumble in the distance made Sunset let out a loud groan as she planted her face into the ground. “Called it.” She mumbled before running over to find out the problem.

When Sunset arrived at the scene, she wasn’t expecting to find a scared purple pony cowering in the midst of a fighting crowd. She seemed to be the only pony in her right mind, so Sunset naturally chose to approach her for answers.

“What’s going on here?” She asked as the pony looked up at her with tears in her eyes, hidden behind a pair of thick glasses.

“I…I’m sorry! I-I just wanted a friend…” Sunset raised an eyebrow.

“Elaborate?”

“I-I just wanted a friend, but I didn’t know how to make one. So I thought that if I secretly caused a problem and then came in to fix it, all the ponies would want to be my friend. I casted a Want It, Need It spell on that doll and now everypony’s enchanted by it!” Sunset rubbed her head with a long groan.

“And what exactly made you think that was a good idea? Do you know how dangerous the Want It, Need It spell is?” A part of her wanted to be angry at the pony for disrupting the peace. But another part of her reminded her of her past, when she had tried to research forbidden magic behind Celestia’s back, even though thinking back now, it was a terrible idea. It was the same situation here. A terrible idea that had seemed like a good idea to get what was wanted, until it spirals out of control. Guess this is how Celestia felt when she found out what I did. She grimaced as her horn lit up. Luckily, she knew just the spell to reverse the effects, and soon everypony was returning back to their daily lives, leaving the discarded doll on the ground. The pony before her looked down in shame, her eyes watering.

“I’m so sorry… I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”

“Don’t worry. I understand.” Sunset offered an empathetic smile. “And going by my own experiences, they’ll forgive you.” She helped the pony up. “So, what’s your name? My name’s Sunset Shimmer.”

“I’m Twilight Sparkle.” Twilight replied shyly as Sunset smiled.

“Great. Nice to meet you, Twilight. Look, I understand that you want friends, and you must’ve been really lonely and desperate to have casted a Want It, Need It spell for it, but that’s not the right way to do it.” Twilight nodded.

“I know that now. I’m sorry. I’ll just leave and never come back.” Sunset shook her head.

“Nope, you’re coming with me.” She said as she used her magic to levitate Twilight in the air and shot her a large grin. “You said you wanted friends, right? I have some ponies I’d like you to meet. Let me show you there’s another way, just like they did for me!”
