//------------------------------// // Our Precious (Epilogue) // Story: When The Wind Changes // by Symphony //------------------------------// The white walls and the disinfecting stench inside the hospital did nothing but unnerve the pacing sprit with every passing moment. Discord could hear the pained wails coming from Luna as she gave birth. Discord gritted his teeth and growled silently. He felt so helpless when there was nothing he could do to relieve Luna of her agony. He wasn’t allowed to enter the room she was in, as the doctors had ordered him to stay put. Luna’s painful, strained smile as he left the room was etched into his brain. Celestia had refused to leave the room though, and the doctors had allowed her to stay. He snarled and tried to think of something else, just about anything that would relieve his troubled mind, but to no avail. 13 months had passed since the Gala when Luna told him, and 15 months after he had been turned into a pony. Over the course of a year, Discord had been brought into the public eye as a changed pony. He was still pranking and making fun of Celestia and the Elements, but he had calmed down over time. It took 13 months for the foal to evolve, as 11 months is the time for an earth pony, and 12 is for a pegasus, or a unicorn when they evolve their extra limbs, such as wings or a horn. But Luna and Discord’s foal was an alicorn, so it took two months longer than the normal expectancy. The initial reaction to the Lunar princess bearing the foal of the Embodiment of Chaos caused havoc in court and in high society, but with the help of Celestia, Fancy Pants, his wife, Fleur De Lis and the Elements, Discord and his coming foal had been accepted, praised even by some. Discord had also been interpreted of a symbol for change for some ponies. Another wail of pure agony rocked the hospital, making Discord pin his ears to his skull and start pacing around in a circle. He had never been a patient creature, but this was just torture. He hated this, he wanted to do just something to help her, but he would only get in the way and probably make it worse with his actions. An irritated groan escaped the spirit as he contined his stubborn trudging. The procedure had lasted for about five hours, and Discord had been forced to leave the room three hours ago. He was absolutely in no mood to just sit back and wait for any signs from the doctors inside. He clicked his tongue and took a deep breath. He had to calm down. There was no help in being annoyed or restless. But those two feelings were hard to avoid in his current situation. After three consecutive screams, all of which raised in volume with every scream, silence followed. There was no more screaming, just a few tiny, soft cries which made Discord perk his ears immediately. He understood that it was finished after all these hours of stress, anger, anticipation and finally, relief. About ten minutes after the screaming stopped, the doors opened for a very disheveled Solar princess. Her ethereal mane was drooping and she had bags beneath her eyes. She was exhausted, but she was still smiling. Fresh tears of joy were still in the corner of her eyes. A doctor followed her and walked past the princess. The doctor sighed and brushed a hoof through his mane. He looked straight into Discord’s eyes and smiled. ’’Do you want to see your daughter?’’ He asked politely. Discord’s mouth hung open. He had a daughter... Discord grinned and nodded ferociously. The doctor chuckled and moved out of the way, allowing Discord to pass him. Discord trotted in a brisk pace, giving the exhausted doctor trouble to keep up. ’‘Princess Luna is sleeping. The birth took a lot out of her, but she will be just fine when she wakes up.’’ The doctor started panting a little as Discord further increased his pace. After five minutes of navigating through the corridors, they reached a room with a giant glass window. On the other side of the glass was Celestia and Twilight Sparkle. The doctor raised his hoof to his mouth and hushed, indicating that Discord had to be as silent as possible. Discord nodded once again and followed the doctor into the room. Inside the room were numerous cradles, each containing a different filly or colt of all kinds of pony races. The doctor headed to one specific cradle in the corner by the room and stopped next to it. Discord looked at the doctor, who nodded and smiled. Discord walked carefully to the cradle and peeked inside. His heart fluttered as he saw the tiny filly lying inside. She was an extremely pale cornflower blue, and her mane was navy blue with soft pink highlights. Her tiny horn was barely visible through the wrap around her. Tiny wings sprouted from her back, and the tips of the wings were the same pink colour as the highlights in her mane. The spirit felt his lower lip quiver as he nuzzled the foal as carefully as he possibly could. As he straightened his neck again, he looked over at the doctor. ’’C-Can I..?’’ He asked hesitantly. Twilight and Celestia smiled as they saw the baffled spirit. The doctor just waved a dismissing hoof. ’’Of course you can, she’s your daughter after all...’‘ The doctor whispered and turned around to leave the spirit with his daughter in privacy. ’‘I’ll come back in ten minutes. I have to go and check on Princess Luna. Congratulations.’’ Discord thanked the doctor as he closed the door behind him. Discord picked up his daughter as carefully as he could and sat down in the corner with his back toward the wall. He started rocking her back and forth, all while smiling weakly. A tiny yawn escaped the filly as she nuzzled into Discord’s chest. The spirit felt a tear of pure joy and thankfulness roll down his cheek and spot the floor. He took a breath and nuzzled the filly’s head again. He started humming as he rocked her back and forth. The tune he hummed was one he had sung to Luna over a year ago. ’’She came with the spring As birds start to sing The queen of the fairies dance I joined I took the chance Now bittersweet memories So bittersweet A lover's dream like a star in the sky To pass away like a sweet Lullaby Tell me why did the fire die Tell me why Like a star in the sky A soothing breeze like a sweet lullaby A lover's cry Farewell... Goodbye...’’
