Chapter 1: The Day of the Cutie Mark, part. 1 House Hunting

Date: Nov 4th, 2008
Location: Kenaz's House, Canterlot
Time: 7 am

"Kenaz is at school, so today we are going to Ponyville to look at houses," Glyph stated.

"Okay, but we have to make sure that we can get back here before he gets out of school," Ichor said. "So, when does he usually get home?" he asked.

"He can get here by 3:10 at the earliest, so we have less than 8 hours to get there look at houses and get back," Glyph replied. "So, I am going to set up a receiving teleportation circle under the carpet so that we can get back here quickly. It should only take about 30 minutes to draw."

Glyph immediately gets to work drawing the circle for their return. After forty minutes she finishes the circle. "Okay, done. That took a lot longer than expected. We have to remember to draw the other circle in the Everfree Forest so no one else can use it. DO NOT LET ME FORGET!" Glyph tells Ichor.

"Okay, but we should hurry to the train station, it is 7:42 and our express train tickets are for 8 o'clock sharp, we need to go now!" Ichor says.

The two leave their house running for the train station on the south side of Canterlot. Fifteen minutes pass and they just barely make in time to get on the train and sit down. "Phew, we made it. I thought we would have to wait until tomorrow," Glyph said, immediately followed by a sigh from Ichor. "What was that sigh about, mister," Glyph nagged.

"Nothing, I am just exhausted I never had to run that far before," Ichor whined.

"Then why not fly?" Glyph said, instantly realizing her mistake.

"I wish I could have, but as you recall bat ponies can't fly during the day. The sun burns our wings making it near impossible to fly for at least 2 weeks," Ichor growled, "Remember what happened when Kenaz decided to fly home from the guard barracks last month."

"Yes," Glyph said, with a depressed look on her face, "I am sorry."

The two spent the rest of the ten-minute train ride in silence. When the train stopped at Ponyville train station they were surprised to see Princess Twilight waiting on the platform. "Hello Twilight, we weren't expecting to see you today. How have you been?" Ichor exclaimed.

"Good, but what are you two doing in Ponyville?" Twilight inquired.

"We are planning on moving here as a gift to Kenaz. He has always wanted to live in Ponyville ever since he learned of the Everfree Forest. Why are you at the train station anyway?" Glyph replied.

"Look behind you," Twilight chuckled.

"Luster? What are you doing here?" Glyph jumped.

"Oh, hey Glyph, Ichor, nice to see you," Luster Dawn said, "I am here to study with Princess Twilight. Princess Celestia thought it would help me grow. Don't know why though," she said muttering the last part.

"Well, it was nice seeing you two but we should probably be going, we are on a tight schedule," Ichor says.

"You two should go to Sugarcube Corner, near the center of town, there are two ponies there who can help just ask for Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich," Twilight suggests.

"Thank you, if you recommend them they must be good," Glyph says gleefully.

Glyph and Ichor make their way to Sugarcube Corner looking around for any For Sale signs along the way. They eventually make it to Sugarcube Corner. {Time: 8:30 am}. Glyph and Ichor make their way inside and head straight for the counter. Ichor having smelled various mango desserts rush past his wife to the counter to stare at the mango dessert almost drooling on the glass.

"Hello, I will be there in a second," Glyph hears a mare's voice from the kitchen. After a few seconds a pink mare with various toys, candy, and party supplies in her mane and tail. Without looking at them directly she starts to speak, "So, how may I help you today?" she asks.

"We were told to ask for Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich, Princess Twilight sent us," Glyph says. Ichor still too entranced by the mango flavored desserts behind the glass.

Pinkie Pie finally looks up and gasps, "Hold on, I will be right back," she states. In a matter of around 20 seconds, she goes back to the kitchen, talks to somepony at what seems like the speed of light, and comes back with a stallion. "So, what did you need us for?" she asks.

"You two are Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich?" Glyph questions.

"Yes," Pinkie Pie replies before a small pony pops out of her mane, "and this is our son Li'l Cheese."

"Okay," Glyph begins before looking down and smacking her husband back to reality with one swift hit, "we came to Ponyville today to look for a house to move to next month and Princess Twilight told us to come to see you two," she continued. Within seconds they hear Li'l Cheese say three. "Sorry, three first," Glyph finished.

"Oh, that makes sense, my husband and I know every house, creature, and pony in Ponyville," Pinkie Pie replied.

"Hey, how much for a dozen of those mango cupcakes?" Ichor asked, staring and pointing at the contents of the display in front of him.

"16 bits for a dozen," she replies, within seconds 32 bits are put on the counter as soon as Glyph sees this she puts half of them back in her coin purse.

"Only one dozen hun," Glyph commands. Ichor looks at her with puppy dog eyes. "No!" she says bluntly.

"Fine," he concedes grabbing his box of cupcakes that Pinkie placed on the counter during the argument.

"Well he eats those may I ask you two, sorry, three how many properties are for sale here in Ponyville?" Glyph inquires.

"If I remember there are only 6 houses for sale right now," Pinkie Pie replies.

"There are also 3 empty lots for sale, but all of them are right next to the Everfree Forest," Cheese Sandwich continues.

"Also 3 of the houses for sale are near Whitetail Woods, while the other 3 are all in town," Li'l Cheese finishes.

"How big are the lots?" Ichor asks in between cupcakes.

"The biggest is about 10 acres but 8 of that is Everfree Forest," Pinkie Pie replies.

"The next biggest is 5 acres with half an acre in the Everfree Forest," Cheese Sandwich continues.

"The smallest 3 acres with none of it in the Everfree Forest," Li'l Cheese finishes.

"Are there no houses for sale next to the Everfree?" Glyph questions.

"Nope," Pinkie Pie replies.

"Only Fluttershy lives near the Everfree with her boyfriend Discord," Cheese Sandwich continues. Li'l Cheese leaves the room after hearing a beeping coming from the kitchen. "Remember to use the oven mitts Li'l Cheese!" he screams back. A few seconds later they hear a clang and see Li'l Cheese return with a pie on his mane. As if by control his mane deflates just right to slide the pie onto the table, over at Ichor table they hear a mutter come from him.

"He doesn't like any fruit other than mangos, apricots, and peaches," Glyph explains.

"Oh, wait then what does he eat?" Li'l Cheese questioned.

"My husband and son eat fish and poultry for the most part, but my son eats many fruits and vegetables on occasion," Glyph explained.

"Wait, they eat meat, but I thought ponies couldn't eat meat?!" Li'l Cheese said with a questioning and confused look.

"You see, unlike most ponies, my son and husband are omnivores so it is hard for them to live without meat," Glyph explains further.

"Why are they omnivores?" Li'l Cheese asks.

Before Glyph could respond Cheese Sandwich starts to speak, "Son, do you remember why we make mango-flavored desserts?" Cheese Sandwich asks.

"Cause bat ponies like them," Li'l Cheese answered, "Ooh, I understand, her son and husband are bat ponies," Li'l Cheese caught on.

"Anyways, back to the pressing subject, do you know how much the 5-acre lot costs?" Ichor asks.

"If I remember correctly Mayor Mare priced it at 245 bits for the 5-acre one but the 10-acre lot is better for the price coming in at only 380 bits if I remember correctly, but it would probably be best to double-check with her," Pinkie Pie recalled.

"Thank you, oh and before I forget does anypony sell mangoes in town?" Glyph asked. At the mention of mangoes, Ichor perked up like a royal guard at attention.

"Yeah, there is a store in the market called Thestral Meat and Produce they are the only place in town that sells them," Cheese Sandwich replied.

"But my question is why you would consider buying an empty lot near the Everfree Forest," Li'l Cheese questioned.

"Because my son adores the Everfree Forest, that and my husband enjoys building things," Glyph explained. "Anyway, we should probably be going. We want to keep my son from finding out we came down to Ponyville and he gets out of school at 3 pm."

"Well we hope that you decide to move here we enjoy making new friends here and I know everycreature would be happy to welcome you too," Pinkie Pie said while waving goodbye.

After Glyph, Ichor, and his half a dozen cupcakes leave Li'l Cheese starts talking to his parents, "So, does that mean we can't plan a party for them yet?" he asks.

"Sadly that would be true but when they come back we can throw a party for them then," Pinkie Pie replied.

"Yeah, we only have to wait until next month for them and their son to move here," Cheese Sandwich stated.

"Really?!? Are you sure?" Pinkie questioned.

"My cheesy sense is never wrong," he states bluntly.
