Turquoise made it through Mt.Moon and noticed a city on the horizon. Before she could continue she decided to stop for lunch. As soon as she pulled out an onigiri a yellow and black blur suddenly flew by and snatched it. The blur revealed to be a small bird with yellow feathers and some black ones around the face and white one on the chest. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for information.
“ Rookidee. The Tiny Bird Pokemon. It will bravely challenge any opponent, no matter how powerful. This Pokémon benefits from every battle—even a defeat increases its strength a bit,” The Pokedex said. Turquoise noticed that the Rookidee on the Pokedex looked different from the one she was looking at.
“ So you like to battle huh, in that case, go Espeon. Espeon came out ready to go. “Espeon use Swift on Rookidee. Espeon unleashed its stars on Rookidee only for Rookidee to counter it with Fury Attack. Rookidee than begin scraping its talons together before a red and white aura surrounded it indicating its attack and accuracy went up. Rookidee than came in fast with a Peck attack. “ Espeon use Confusion to stop Rookidee. Espeon’s eyes glowed blue before Rookidee was stopped in mid-air and then slammed onto the ground. Turquoise used this chance to pull out a Pokeball and throw it. “ Go Pokeball. The ball made contact with Rookidee and after many shakes, it clicked indicating the capture was successful. “ Looks like I just caught a Rookidee. After calling back her Espeon Turquoise decided it was best to keep going before any more pokemon showed up. After nearly ten minutes of walking Turquoise finally arrived in Cerulean City. As soon as she found the Pokemon center Turquoise saw rarity and the others.
“ Turquoise darling so glad you could make it,” Rarity said with joy.
“ Had some tough opponents along the way but we made it. I even managed to catch a unique looking pokemon a while ago,” Turquoise said which piqued Twilight’s interest.
“ May we see this pokemon?” Twilight asked.
“ Sure’ Rookidee come on out. After throwing her Pokeball and seeing it pop open. Rookidee flew out while glistening.
“ Your right, that is a unique Pokemon. It’s a shiny Rookidee,” Twilight said.
“ And that is a good thing right?” Turquoise asked.
“ Good? It’s better than good. Shiny Pokemon are very elusive and just spotting one is amazing,” Twilight said.
“ Are you planning on using Rookidee in the contest?” Rarity asked.
“ I might do so in a future one but not in this one since I’m still learning about it,” Turquoise said before recalling her Rookidee.
“ Well, the contest is not for a few days so why not just hang with us until then,” Rarity suggested.
“ Sure, Say Twilight have you challenged the Cerulean City gym yet?” Turquoise asked.
“ Not yet I’m still not ready because my current team is no good against her,” Twilight said.
“ What do you mean?” Turquoise asked.
“ You see Darling the Cerulean City Gym is a Water-Type Gym and Misty the Gym Leader is a Water-Type master. They even call her the world-famous beauty,” Rarity said.
“ So what do you plan to do Twilight?” Turquoise asked.
“ Isn’t it obvious? I’m going to try and catch a Grass or Electric Type,” Twilight said before running off. Applejack followed her since she knew how Twilight gets when she starts to freak out.
“ So what shall we do while we wait for them?” Turquoise asked.
“ I suggest we do some shopping especially since we need to find you something to wear,” Rarity said.
“ You don't like the way I look?” Turquoise asked.
“ It’s not that. Your casual look is very nice but you need to dress up for a contest darling,” Rarity said before pulling Turquoise by her arm. Sometime later Turquoise and Rarity were at a dress shop looking at dresses. After trying on many dresses Turquoise came out wearing a royal blue sheath column off the shoulder chiffon cocktail dress. “ That’s the one, keep it and let’s start looking for matching shoes. Turquoise looked at many types of shoes until she came across a pair of royal blue pumps with three-inch heels. “ Perfect now that we have your outfit ready let’s see if Twilight is back from her little quest. As soon as they got back to the Pokemon Center Twilight looked frazzled like she lost her mind.
“ I take it that by the look of Twilight she failed to find a Grass or Electric-type pokemon?” Turquoise asked.
“ Oh she found one and even caught it but it took a lot of her sanity to try and catch it,” Applejack said.
“ Yikes’ guess this means I can have the first crack at the Gym Leader?” Turquoise asked.
“ Go ahead I think we should give Twilight some time to regain her sanity,” Applejack said.
Sometime later the girls were all standing in front of the Gym and as soon as they entered they noticed they were standing in a huge room with a huge aquarium full of Water-Type pokemon from every region and in the center of that room was a huge swimming pool with platforms in it. As soon as Turquoise stood on the challenger’s side a girl with orange hair styled in a short side tail wearing a white one-piece swimsuit with a jacket of the same color stood on top of a diving board.
“ So you’re my next challenger?” The girl shouted.
“ Are you Misty the Cerulean City Gym Leader?” Turquoise shouted.
“ You bet I am so prepared to be dazzled by the World Famous Beauty Misty,” Misty Shouted before throwing her jacket off and performing a perfect dive into the pool and then into a perfect leap onto her side of the Battlefield. “ So what is your policy on pokemon? What is your approach?”
“ My Policy?” Turquoise asked, confused by the question. “ If I had to say I guess my Policy is elegance and power,” As soon as she answered the question a woman with blue hair wearing a blue two-piece athletic swimsuit took her position on the referee spot.
“ The battle between Misty the Gym Leader and Turquoise the challenger will now begin. Each Trainer will use two pokemon and the battle will be over when both of one Trainer’s pokemon are unable to battle. In addition, only the Challenger will be permitted to substitute pokemon,” The ref explained.
“ Staryu I choose you,” Misty said while doing a twirl before tossing her Pokeball which popped open and sent out a bronze-colored star with a golden core and a ruby in the center that stood on the platform.
“ Hya,” Staryu said.
“ So that’s a Staryu,” Turquoise said before pulling her Pokedex out.
“ Staryu. The Starshape Pokemon. No number of injuries can bother Staryu. Its amazing regenerative powers return it to its previous state in half a day,” The Pokedex said.
“ The pool is going to make maneuverability impossible since I don't have anything that can swim so it looks like I’m going to use it after all,” Turquoise said to herself in her thoughts.
“ Your choice Challenger?” The Ref asked snapping Turquoise out of her thoughts.
“ Go Rookidee,” Turquoise said as Rookidee popped out and hovered over the battlefield.
“ Let the Battle begin,” The ref said.
“ Rookidee let’s start with Hone Claws. Rookidee began sharpening his claws which covered him in a red and white aura that indicated his Attack and Accuracy increasing.
“ Raising your stats first huh, not bad but just because you won't strike first doesn't mean I won,t. Staryu use Bubblebeam. Staryu spun in mid-air as it fired a beam of bubbles at Rookidee.
“ Rookidee use Fury Attack. Rookidee’s beak began to glow as he popped the bubbles one by one before heading straight for Staryu.
“ Staryu use Harden. Staryu began to glow with a shine that raised its defense and allowed it to withstand Rookidee’s Fury Attack. “ Now use Rapid Spin. Staryu spun like shuriken and nailed Rookidee before causing him to lose altitude. Before making splashdown with the pool Rookidee regained control and flew back up.
“ Can you keep going?” Turquoise asked with Rookidee nodding yes. “ Than use Hone Claws,” Rookidee sharpened his claws again raising his attack and accuracy. “ Now use Power Trip,” Rookidee’s Wings began to glow with a black aura as it continuously smacked Staryu and inflicted a ton of damage.
“ If you think that will be enough, think again. Staryu use Recover. Staryu began to glow with a soft light that healed most of the damage it sustained from the battle.
“ What kind of move was that?” Rarity asked.
“ That was Recover. It allows the pokemon using it to heal some of the damage it took,” Twilight explained, returning to her usual self again.
“ In that case Use two Hone Claws in a row. Rookidee sharpened his claws twice and felt close to having its attack and accuracy maxed out. Now use Fury Attack. Rookidee charged in with his beak glowing.
“ Staryu use Harden. Staryu’s body glowed with a light shine as Rookidee pecked away at it with his Fury Attack.
“ Just what I hoped you would do. Now Rookidee use Power Trip from close range. Rookidee continuously hit Staryu and send it flying towards the wall of the other end of the pool and after hitting the wall the ruby in the center of its body began to beep and light up.
“ Staryu is unable to battle Rookidee wins the match,” The Ref said as she pointed her right flag at Turquoise.
“ Staryu return. You were awesome out there, As for you Turquoise that was a clever move switching from Fury Attack to Power Trip from close range,” Misty said.
“ I knew you would try to fend off my first attack so I chained a second one after harden ended,” Turquoise explained.
“ Well, I hope you're ready for my next Pokemon. Go Gyarados. Misty threw her next Pokeball and after popping open above the water a blue sea serpent with an angry-looking face appeared out of the water and unleashed a mighty roar. Turquoise like the new trainer that she was, pulled out her Pokedex to analyze it.
Gyarados. The Atrocious Pokemon. Once it begins to rampage, a Gyarados will burn everything down, even in a harsh storm.
“ Rookidee use Power Trip. Rookidee was about to hit Gyarados until Misty reacted.
“ That won,t work. Gyarados Use Twister on the water. Gyarados unleashed a twister from its tail and suddenly caught Rookidee in a vortex of wind and water that inflicted a ton of damage on Rookidee thus knocking it out.
“ Rookidee is Unable to battle. Gyarados wins the match,” The Ref said as she pointed her left flag at Misty.
“ Rookidee return. You fought valiantly and got me this far. Now rest. Turquoise pulled out her next Pokeball and threw it. Go Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur appeared and landed on one of the platforms despite how wobbly it was because of the waves.
“ Gyarados use Ice Fang. gyarados’s fangs suddenly turned to ice as it swam closer to Bulbasaur.
“ Bulbasaur use Vine Whip to dodge. Bulbasaur tried to use Vine Whip to leap into the air but the platform was too slippery and wet for it to work and fell onto the platform next to it while the Ice Fang missed and turned the whole pool into Ice. Turquoise thought Gyarados would be stuck and had nowhere to go until she saw Gyarados floating over the ice
“ I guess you didn't know Gyarados is also a Flying-Type so he can fight on land, sea, or air. Now Gyarados use Bite. Gyarados was charging in at Bulbasaur who looked scared until Turquoise had an idea.
“ Bulbasaur use the ice to dodge that. Bulbasaur slid on the ice and narrowly avoided Bite. Now use Poison Powder while circling Gyarados. Bulbasaur unleashed a cloud of purple powder from his bulb as he skated circles around Gyarados which left Gyarados with purple blush on its face indicating it was poisoned. Now use Leech Seed. Bulbasaur fired a seed from his bulb and as soon as it made contact with Gyarados it wrapped it in vines that sapped its power.
“ If you think those tricks will work here, think again. Gyarados use Ice fang. Gyarados charged at Bulbasaur with fangs made of ice and managed to nail Bulbasaur this time. Bulbasaur managed to survive thanks to Leech Seed giving it enough health to survive. Suddenly Bulbasaur was covered in a green aura.
“ What is happening to Bulbasaur?” Turquoise asked hoping someone would tell her.
“ That’s Bulbasaur’s Ability Overgrow. When Bulbasaur is down to less than a third of its health the power of his Grass-type attacks is raised by 50%,” Twilight explained.
“ In that case, Bulbasaur use Razor Leaf. Bulbasaur unleashed his Razor Leaf with all his might.
“ That won't beat us. Gyarados use Twister. Gyarados unleashed its twister which collided with the Razor Leaf. Both attacks pushed against each other with all their might until Razor Leaf managed to break through and nail Gyarados for enough damage to knock it out.
“ Gyarados is unable to Battle. Bulbasaur wins the match which means the winner is Turquoise the Challenger,” The ref said as she pointed her right flag at Turquoise.
“ Gyrados return. You were amazing as always now rest. Misty approached Turquoise as she toweled off. “ That was a very well thought battle and here is proof of your victory at the Cerulean City Gym. The Cascade badge. Misty handed Turquoise a light blue badge shaped like a water droplet. After putting the badge in her badge case the girls left for the Pokemon Center. While Turquoise’s pokemon were healing Rarity decided to take Turquoise with her to work on her outfit for the pokemon contest. After having Turquoise change into her new dress and shoes rarity felt like something was missing. Suddenly Rarity had an idea and quickly pulled out a dark blue fur stole and had Turquoise put it on.
“ Perfect now all you need to do is decide who you're using for the contest and you're well on your way. I think you are going to find that contests are the most fun you could have,” Rarity said.
“ Can,t wait to see what a contest is like,” Turquoise said. After changing back into her casual clothes and putting her contest outfit away Turquoise and Rarity returned just in time for Turquoise to get her pokemon back.
“ Thank you for waiting for your pokemon are back to full health,” Nurse Joy said.
“ Thanks,” Turquoise said as she took her pokeballs back.
“ Now let's get you registered before they run out of spots,” Rarity said. Turquoise and the girls ran for the Contest hall and made it in time.
“ I would like to register for the contest,” Turquoise said.
“ Certainly miss I just need your Pokedex and we can get you set up,” The lady at the desk said. After placing Turquoise’s Pokedex on a scanner for a few seconds, Turquoise was given a contest pass for the Kanto Region. “ And here are your Ball Capsules and some seals. After Registering The girls went back to the Gym to see Twilight’s Battle. They arrived just in time for Twilight to call her second pokemon against Gyarados.
“ Go Rowlet,” Twilight said before throwing a Pokeball that popped open and unleashed an owl with a leaf bowtie.
“ That must be the pokemon Twilight just caught,” Turquoise said while pulling out her Pokedex.
“ Rowlet. The Grass Quill Pokemon. During the day, it builds up energy via photosynthesis. At night, it flies silently through the sky, on the prowl for prey,” The Pokedex said.
“ You sure like to play with that thing a lot don't ya?” Applejack said.
“ I’m new at this so there are a ton of Pokemon out there I haven't seen or met yet so of course, I would want to learn all I can about them,” Turquoise said.
“ Rowlet use Shadow Sneak. Rowlet suddenly went into his own shadow and then reappeared behind Gyarados.
“ Gyarados behind you,” Misty warned only to be too late as Rowlet kicked it with his talons and knocked it out.
“ Gyarados is unable to battle Rowlet wins the match which means the winner is Twilight the Challenger,” The ref said while pointing her right flag at Twilight.
“ How did you beat that Gyarados so quickly?” Turquoise asked.
“ It sustained a lot of damage from my Charmander’s Dragon Rush,” Twilight said.
“ Charmander can use Dragon Rush?” Turquoise asked in shock.
“ If bred with a parent that knows the move it can,” Twilight said.
“ In any case, you won so as the victor I present you with the Cascade Badge,” Misty said before giving Twilight her badge. “ So where are you girls off to now?”
“ After the contest here I’m off to find the next Gym,” Turquoise said.
“ Then you should head for Vermillion City next,” Misty suggested.
“ Where is that?” Turquoise asked before Applejack pulled out her Pokenav.
“ It's south of Saffron City which is also south from here,” Applejack said.
“ Then that is where I shall go next,” Turquoise said. The girls all went back to the Pokemon center and Twilight decided to ask Turquoise something.
“ Turquoise do you consider the three of us as friends?” Twilight asked.
“ I do, you, Rarity, and Applejack helped me get this far on my journey,” Turquoise pointed out.
“ Then why don't you want to tag along with us?” Twilight asked.
“ Because my mother always told me it's important to make your own path in life. Don,t get me wrong Rarity has given me a good amount of tips for pokemon contests and you always pointed out stuff that baffled me and Applejack is good at cooking and navigating. But I want to travel on my own and see where my journey takes me,” Turquoise said.
“ So you're saying you don't want to travel with us because you want to figure out where you're going on your own is that it?” Twilight asked.
“ That right,” Turquoise said.
“ That sounds fair enough but just remember that having friends who help you from time to time is also important,” Twilight said. After having their discussion Twilight and Turquoise went back to their rooms for the night.
