The next morning Turquoise woke up ready to continue her journey. After getting dressed and brushing her long red hair she went to the cafe area to get breakfast. After finishing eating along with her pokemon she went up front to ask Nurse Joy for directions.
“ Hey, Nurse Joy where can I find Pewter City?” Turquoise asked.
“ Go through the Viridian Forest and it should be on the other side, Are you planning on challenging the gym there?” Nurse Joy said.
“ Sure am,” Turquoise replied.
“ Than you will first need to register for the Indigo League and luckily for you Viridian City is where registration is. Just hand me your Pokedex and I will have you all set. After Turquoise gave Nurse Joy her Pokedex she placed it on a scanner and a few moments later she gave Turquoise her Pokedex back along with a Badge Case. Your all set and good luck on your journey. As soon as Turquoise left the Pokemon Center she noticed there was a gym already in Viridian City and decided to go there instead. As soon as she arrived at the entrance a man spoke over the intercom.
“ Welcome to the Viridian City Gym miss. How many badges do you have so far?” The man asked.
“ None so far I just started my journey,” Turquoise replied.
“ Zero Badges? I’m sorry miss but you’re not ready to face our gym yet. You need at least seven badges before you can enter so come back when you have them,” The man said before the gym door was covered by a metal shutter.
“ Well that explains why Twilight didn’t even bother coming to this gym yet,” Turquoise said to herself before heading towards the Viridian Forest. As soon as she enters the Forest Turquoise began to have feelings of dread from all the bug-Type Pokemon around her. As she was walking a green spider with a face on it appeared in front of her and startled her. “ AHH, Vulpix use ember. Turquoise quickly sent Vulpix out and Vulpix unleashed its ember and hit the spider and sent it flying. Suddenly a little boy comes out looking upset with Turquoise.
“ Hey lady what is the big idea attacking my Spinarak like that?” The boy shouted while holding his pokemon. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex after apologizing.
“ Spinarak. The String Spit Pokemon. With threads from its mouth, it fashions sturdy webs that won’t break even if you set a rock on them,” The Pokedex said.
“ Again sorry for attacking your Spinarak it startled me by coming down like that,” Turquoise said.
“ It’s ok that happens a lot. My name is Joey by the way,” Joey said.
“ I’m Turquoise it’s nice to meet you,” Turquoise said.
“ Want to have a battle with me since we met each other?” Joey asked.
“ Sure,” Turquoise said.
“ Before we begin how many pokemon do you have so far?” Joey asked.
“ Three,” Turquoise replied.
“ Then this will be a three on three battle. Agreed?” Joey asked.
“ Agreed,” Turquoise said.
“ So for my first pokemon, Go Beedrill. Joey threw his Pokeball which popped open and unleashed a bee-like pokemon with spears for hands. Naturally Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex to find out more.
“ Beedrill. The Poison Bee pokemon. It has three poisonous stingers on its forelegs and its tail. They are used to jab its enemy repeatedly. After seeing Beedrill’s typing Turquoise made her choice.
“ Go Bulbasaur. Turquoise unleashed her Bulbasaur who looked eager to battle.
“ Beedrill use Twineedle. Both of the spears on Beedrill’s arms glowed purple and Bedrill charged at Bulbasaur.
“ Dodge and use Tackle. Bulbasaur dodged all of Beedrill’s thrusts and as soon as he saw an opening he tackled Beedrill with enough force to send it flying into a tree and caused it to faint.
“ Beedrill return. Not bad you managed to beat my Beedrill with one attack but don,t think you won yet because this next one will even the score. Go Venonat. Joey threw another Pokeball and this time a purple puffball with red insect eyes and antennae came out and had Turquoise looked up the data on Venonat.
“ Venonat. The Insect Pokemon. Its large eyes act as radar. In a bright place, you can see that they are clusters of many tiny eyes,” The Pokedex said.
“ I will stick with my Bulbasaur. As soon as turquoise said that Bulbasaur unleashed a pair of green vines from its body.
“ Looks like your Bulbasaur just learned Vine Whip,” Joey pointed out.
“ That’s so cool I wonder what other attacks it knows,” Turquoise said.
“ You know you can use your Pokedex to find out. Your Pokedex can also keep track of the stats of your pokemon. Turquoise checked the stats of her Bulbasaur and was amazed that it also learned Growth and Leech Seed. “ Bulbasaur lets start this round off with a Leech Seed. Bulbasaur fired a seed from his bulb and as soon as it made contact with Venonat it wrapped it in vines that began to siphon its energy.
“ That won't stop us, Venonat use Confusion. Venonat’s eyes began to glow blue before Bulbasaur was covered in a blue aura that levitated him off the ground and sent him flying into one of the trees. Despite the energy recovery from Leech Seed Bulbasaur looked close to defeat. “ Let’s wrap this up with Tackle. Venonat charged at Bulbasaur ready to end it until Turquoise reacted.
“ Bulbasaur use Vine Whip to jump. Bulbasaur used his Vine whip on the ground and leaped high into the air. “ Now use a mid-air tackle. Bulbasaur charged at Venonat ready to end it.
“ Venonat use Confusion and send that Bulbasaur flying. Venonat used its Confusion to stop Bulbasaur and slam him into a tree thus causing him to faint. “ Looks like we are even now.
“ Bulbasaur return,” Turquoise said as she recalled her Bulbasaur. “ You were amazing and earned a good rest. As for you, not bad using Confusion to stop my mid-air tackle.
“ You were not half bad either using Vine Whip to get your Bulbasaur air-born like that. After Turquoise and Joey were done exchanging praise Turquoise selected her next Pokemon.
“ Go Eevee. Turquoise threw her next Pokeball and out of it came Eevee somersaulting before landing on the ground.
“Let’s see what you got Eevee. Venonat use Confusion on Eevee. Venonat used it confusion to send Eevee flying towards a tree only this time Turquoise was ready for that.
“ Eevee jump off the tree and use the momentum to tackle Venonat. Eevee straightened herself and bounced off the tree and moved as fast as a bullet before tackling Venonat and causing it to faint.
“ Venonat return. Clever girl using the trees to your advantage. One of the key elements to a battle is being able to use your surroundings to your advantage but that does not mean the battle is over. Go Spinarak. Spinarak popped out feeling good as new and ready for battle. Turquoise took a moment to check on Eevee’s stats and saw she learned a new move.
“ Can you keep going Eevee? Eevee nodded and looked more determined. “Then let’s try your new move. Use Quick Attack,” Eevee charged at Spinarak fast with a white trail behind her.
“ That won't work this time. Spinarak use String Shot. Spinarak fired a sticky thread at Eevee and managed to cover her completely with that thread thus putting the breaks on her attack. “ Now use Poison Sting,” Spinarak fired a bunch of poison needles at Eevee which upon contact may have freed her from the sticky thread but also poisoned her.
“ Eevee what’s that matter?” Turquoise asked after seeing Eevee with some purple on her face.
“ That is called a status condition. Some Pokemon Moves have an additional effect to Burn, Freeze, Paralyze, Put To Sleep, or in this case Poison another Pokemon but don't worry there is medicine for it but right now let’s finish the battle. Spinarak use Infestation. A bunch of tiny insects flew toward Eevee and after making contact caused Eevee to scratch herself like a dog with fleas until the combined effects of the poison and infestation caused her to faint.
“ What happened, how did my Eevee faint so quickly?” Turquoise asked before recalling her Eevee.
“ That is the power of Infestation even after it lands it will keep inflicting gradual damage and combined with the poison status makes for a lethal combination,” Joey explained.
“ Well, then I better be careful. Go Vulpix. As soon as Vulpix entered the battle the sun’s rays began to intensify.
“ Looks like someone has a hidden ability,” Joey said, impressed with what he saw.
“ Thanks, I was extremely lucky to find a Vulpix this rare,” Turquoise said before the battle continued. “ Vulpix use Ember. Vulpix unleashed her Ember attack which managed to land on Spinarak and knock it out quickly.
“ No way Ember is usually not this strong,” Turquoise said, impressed with Vulpix.
“ You have Sunny day to thank for that. Weather can have a certain effect on Pokemon and their moves like in this case the Sunny Day increased the power of your Fire-Type Moves,” Joey explained.
“ Thanks for explaining it to me and thank you for a splendid battle,” Turquoise said.
“ So where are you off to now?” Joey asked.
“ To Pewter City to challenge the Pewter City Gym,” Turquoise said.
“ Then I have some advice on the Gym Leader. The Pewter City Gym specializes in Rock-type Pokemon so your Bulbasaur should be good but your Vulpix will be at a disadvantage. As for your Eevee, unless it evolves into something that can beat Rock-types she won't be of much use,” Joey explained.
“ Thanks for the advice I will keep it in mind,” Turquoise said before leaving.
“ Best of luck on your Gym Battle,” Joey shouted. As soon as Turquoise made it out of Viridian Forest Pewter City was on the horizon. As soon as Turquoise entered the City she looked around for the Pokemon Center and found it. As soon as she went inside she went up to Nurse Joy.
“ Good to see you again Nurse Joy,” Turquoise said which made Nurse Joy confused.
“ Have we met somewhere before?” Nurse Joy asked.
“ Come on you know we met in Viridian City hours ago,” Turquoise said which suddenly sparked something in Nurse Joy.
“ Oh, you must mean my big sister. We all look so alike, most new trainers confuse us for the same person,” Nurse Joy said while showing her a family photo of her and her sisters.
“ In any case can you heal my Pokemon?” Turquoise asked.
“ Not a problem,” Nurse joy said before Turquoise handed her Pokeballs to her. While her Pokemon were healing Turquoise noticed that Rarity and her friends were also here.
“ Turquoise glad you made it through that horrid forest,” Rarity said.
“You’re just saying that because you don,t like Bug-type Pokemon,” A girl with blonde hair styled in braids with green eyes wearing a stetson and a western-style trainer outfit said.
“ Can I help it if they look so creepy and crawly,” Rarity said.
“ In any case, It's mighty nice to meet ya Turquoise I’m Applejack you already know Twilight and Rarity,” Applejack said while referring to Rarity and a gloomy-looking Twilight.
“ Nice to meet you too Applejack but why does Twilight look so sad?” Turquoise asked.
“ Because she lost her Gym Battle against Forrest the Gym Leader and it devastated her,” Applejack said.
“ I’m about to challenge him after my Pokemon heals anything I should know about?” Turquoise asked.
“ One thing beware of his ace pokemon it is Meaner than a tauros with a toothache,” Applejack said.
Will do,” Turquoise said before taking her Pokemon back from Nurse Joy.
“ May we watch your Gym Battle? I want to see how you handle it,” Twilight asked perking up for the first time since her loss.
“ Sure I need someone to show me where the Gym is anyway,” Turquoise said. After showing Turquoise where the Gym was Turquoise entered and noticed how dark it was until a spotlight came on.
“ You must be my next challenger. I hope you can give me a better battle than my last opponent,” Forrest said.
“ I’m ready when you are,” Turquoise said before a boy that was just a little younger than Forrest came up with two flags.
“ The battle between Forrest the Gym Leader and Turquoise the Challenger will now begin. Both trainers will use two pokemon and the battle will be over when both of one trainer's pokemon are unable to battle. Also, only the challenger is allowed to Substitute Pokemon,” The boy said. After both sides agreed to the rules the boy declared the battle to start.
“ Geodude, come on out,” Forrest said as a Pokemon that looked like a rounded boulder with arms and a face came out.
“ What is that?” Turquoise asked before pulling her Pokedex out.
“ Geodude. The Rock Pokemon. Commonly found near mountain trails and the like. If you step on one by accident, it gets angry,” The Pokedex said.
“ In that case Go Eevee. Turquoise threw her Pokeball and Eevee popped out ready to go.
“ Is Turquoise insane that little guy can't possibly make a dent in a pokemon as rock-solid as Geodude,” Applejack said, acting like Turquoise did something wrong.
“ I know but with what Rarity told me she may not have had a choice since her Vulpix would be destroyed as fast as my Charmander was and she wants to save her secret weapon for later,” Twilight said.
“ Too easy Geodude use rollout. Geodude suddenly tucked its limbs and face in before rolling extremely fast at Eevee and sent her flying at one of the boulders on the field. After getting up Eevee looked more determined to win.
“ Eevee use the boulders to try and avoid that rollout. Eevee kept dodging until it began to look tired and had nowhere to run. Just when it looked like Eevee was done for she suddenly began to glow.
“ What in tarnation is happening?” Applejack asked.
“ Eevee is evolving,” Rarity said.
“ But into what Eevee has eight different evolved forms,” Twilight said. Eevee began to get bigger while her tail narrowed and split in two by the tip and her ears changed. After the flash died down a lavender-colored cat with purple eyes, a red gem on its forehead and a split on the tip of its tail appeared.
“ Espe,” The cat said.
“ All right, Eevee evolved into an Espeon,” Twilight said which cued Turquoise to pull out her Pokedex.
“ Espeon. The Sun Pokemon. By reading air currents, it can predict things such as the weather or its foe's next move,” The Pokedex said.
“ This is so cool I have an Espeon,” Turquoise said with joy.
“ Too bad that won't change anything. Geodude use Rollout. Geodude repeated the same move as last time only this time Turquoise was ready for it.
“ Espeon use Confusion. Espeon’s eyes glowed blue causing a blue aura to stop Geodude in its tracks and send it rolling into one of the boulders and to faint.
“ Geodude is unable to battle Espeon is the winner,” The ref said as Espeon ran to Turquoise.
“ You were very amazing Espeon,” Turquoise said as she hugged her Espeon.
“ Espe,” Espeon said.
“ Geodude Return, You did a great job, Pretty impressive the way your Eevee evolved when you needed it most but playtime is over time to show you my ace, Go Rhyhorn. A gray Rhyno suddenly appeared and stomped its foot as it was preparing to charge.
“ What the heck is that Pokemon,” Turquoise said, pulling out her Pokedex.
“ Rhyhorn. The Spikes Pokemon. A Pokémon with a one-track mind. Once it charges, it won’t stop running until it falls asleep,” The Pokedex said.
“ This must be the ace Applejack was talking about, Espeon can you keep going? Espeon nodded which meant she could keep fighting.
“ Rhyhorn use Horn Attack. Rhyhorn's horn glowed as he charged at Espeon.
“ Dodge and use Swift. Espeon dodged quickly and unleashed a flurry of stars on Rhyhorn who just took it like it was nothing.
“ That's all you got? Time to end this. Rhyhorn use Superpower. Rhyhorn channeled its power into its body before unleashing a massive burst that was heading towards Espeon.
“ Espeon use Quick Attack to dodge it. Espeon used Quick attack with all her might but failed to get out of the way in time and was sent flying and fainted.
“ Espeon is unable to battle. The winner is Rhyhorn,” The ref said.
“ Espeon Return. You were amazing out there thanks for coming through for me when I needed you.
“ I hope your next pokemon is more of a challenge. Turquoise looked more determined to win this.
“ Go Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur flew out and was ready to go. Bulbasaur use Leech Seed. Bulbasaur fired a seed from its bulb. Rhyhorn tried to dodge but failed to make it in time and was covered in vines. Now use Razor Leaf. Bulbasaur fired a bunch of razor-sharp leaves at Rhyhorn and Rhyhorn felt the pain from it as soon as they hit it. Rhyhorn suddenly felt like it could move again.
“ Rhyhorn end this with Drill Run. Rhyhorn charged at Bulbasaur with its horn spinning extremely fast like a drill. Turquoise felt like this was the perfect time to show her new friends what she learned in the forest.
“ Bulbasaur use Vine Whip to jump. Bulbasaur used his Vine Whip on the ground and managed to leap high into the air while Rhyhorn got its horn stuck in the boulder that was behind Bulbasaur. Now use Razor Leaf while Rhyhorn is stuck. Bulbasaur fired his Razor Leaf and managed to nail Rhyhorn for a ton of damage thus knocking it out.
“ Rhyhorn is unable to Battle the winner is Bulbasaur and that means Turquoise wins the match,” The ref said as Forrest recalled his Rhyhorn and approached Turquoise.
“ That was a very impressive battle; you certainly earned this. As proof of your victory at the Pewter City Gym I present you with the Boulder Badge,” Forrest said as he handed Turquoise a silver badge that looked like a rock.
“ Thank you,” Turquoise said before putting the badge in her badge case. After Turquoise’s gym battle was over the girls all went back to the Pokemon Center to discuss their plans.
“ So what are you planning to do now Turquoise?” Rarity asked.
“ Well now that my Eevee has evolved into an Espeon I was thinking before I head off to Cerulean City I would train for the contest, that is if you are interested in helping me?” Turquoise said.
“ Certainly Darling after how you helped Twilight out it's the least I can do,” Rarity said.
