Episode 37: Showing the Showoff: Part 2

Everyone watching the duel was growing quite anxious.

“This has got to be the closest duel I’ve ever seen!” said Rainbow.

“Me too.” agreed Sunset “With just fifty life points splitting the scores, it’s quite literally anyone’s game.”

Onboard the camper, the others were all watching.

“Come on, Pinkie…!” Cadance whispered to herself.

Karle snuffed at Pinkie. “You can go ahead and keep your fun and games for yourselves, but I’ve got a duel to win and a pain in the mask to confront!

It’s my turn! I draw…!”

Pinkie still remained positive in her mind. “I can’t lose my confidence. I’ve got to win this duel, not just for my friends, but so I can show Karle that dueling can be fun instead of a game for vengeance and cruelty!”

“Now…” snapped Karle “I play POT OF GREED so I draw two cards!”

She looked at what she drew, “Excellent! Just what I need…!”

Pinkie gulped hard.

“I activate the spell LUNA LIGHT PERFUME, which lets me call my Lunalight Cat Dancer out of the graveyard!”

Her monster reappeared and hissed nastily at Pinkie’s field, scaring her smaller monsters.

“Oh, not good!” groaned Pinkie.

“Maybe not for you,” hissed Karle “But it does me fine, especially since I can now banish my Perfume card to activate its other effect, letting me add a “Lunalight” monster to my hand from my deck!

…I choose LUNALIGHT TIGER!”


“A Pendulum Card!” cried Pinkie.


“That’s right, and I’m setting him in my Pendulum Zone, just like that, this lets me use his Pendulum Ability, which lets me summon a Lunalight out of my graveyard, but its effects are negated and it’s destroyed at the end of this turn!

…I choose LUNALIGHT WHITE RABBIT!”

Pinkie and the others realized that was obviously the monster she had discarded.

“Now,” shouted Karle “I use the power of my Fusion Gate banishing my Panther with my Cat and Rabbit so I can once again Fusion Summon LUNALIGHT LEO DANCER!”

“Not again!” cried Pinkie, but she watched as all three monsters vanished, and Karle’s monster appeared in a flash of lightning and dark winds!

Pinkie looked up nervously at the huge, yet stylish creature.

“This is so not good!” groaned Rainbow.

“No it isn’t,” agreed Twilight “Especially considering the Leo Dancer can’t be targeted or destroyed by Pinkie’s card effects!”

“…And don’t forget its other ability too!” cried Fluttershy.

Karle grinned wickedly and snickered, “It’s time for me to close the curtains on your little Performa-Punks!”

“…They’re “Performapals!” corrected Pinkie.

“Whatever! I don’t like them, and I’m canceling their show, starting with that overgrown firefly there!”

Pinkie gasped as she gawked at her Fireflux, remembering she had placed in attack-mode, and its attack was now its original 1200, much weaker than Leo Dancer, and with her Momoncarpet no longer in the Pendulum Zone, she couldn’t halve the battle damage she would take!

“Pinkie’s life points will be all cleared out if this attack hits!” cried Terra.

“Come on Pinkie…!” muttered Sunset.

“Leo Dancer, attack that bogus bug!” ordered Karle, and her monster leapt forth with its huge sword at the ready, coming right down on Pinkie’s monster.

“Not so fast!” called Pinkie “I activate SYNCHRO BARRIER!”

“Huh…?!”

“All I have to do is tribute my Metaphys Horus, and then for the rest of this turn I take no battle damage!”

The friends cheered wildly.

“Way to play, Pinkie!” hollered Rainbow.

“She won’t lose the duel now!” cried Applejack.

“An excellent move!” said Celestia.

Karle was far from amused. “You think you’re safe? Well, guess what… I can still destroy your monster!”

Fireflux was blown to bits.

“…And then, thanks to Leo Dancer’s ability, all Special Summoned monsters you have go Bye-Bye!”

With that, all of Pinkie’s monsters were shattered to pieces leaving her field totally empty!

The viewers on the camper were feeling scared for Pinkie.

“Poor girl’s got nothing left to protect herself with.” said Vic.

“And she has no cards in her hand either!” added Kori.

Nobody figured how she could possibly pull herself out of this!

Even Pinkie herself was starting to have serious doubts as she looked little downhearted.

“What’s the matter—run out of “Ladies” this and “Gentlemen” that?” Karle sneered. “Face it, Girlie; shows’ over and smiles lose!”

Pinkie remained still for a moment or two, until she raised her arm and prepared to draw.

“Pinkie!” hollered Applejack.

Karle couldn’t believe her eyes. “You’re kidding me? You’re still planning to duel me out some more? What part of “Show’s Over” don’t you get?”

Pinkie drew her card, and smiled at it.

“Huh?” said Karle.

Pinkie smirked at her, “The show’s never over until the final curtain, and I’m going to prove it by activating ONE DAY OF PEACE!”

“No!!” cried Karle “That means I can’t damage you!”

Pinkie giggled, “True, and we each get to draw a card.”

The girls drew giving them one card each.

“Alright!” cried Rainbow “Pinkie just bought herself some more time.”

“Let’s just hope it’s enough.” said Sunset.

“I can’t believe this kid!” Karle thought “What is it going to take for me to bring her down and shut her up with all this smiling and stupidity?”

“Now then,” said Pinkie “I activate ROLL OF FATE!”

The giant dice block appeared and began to bounce about.

“Whatever number I roll, I get to draw that many cards, but then I have to banish the same number of cards from the top of my deck!”

The die stopped on 3, so Pinkie drew three and then banished three.

“I’ll place one card facedown, and that ends my turn.”

“Well, it’s not like she can be damaged or anything, so she’s still safe for now.” said Fluttershy.

Sunset was beginning to grow worried through as she looked over at Karle, hoping Pinkie had inadvertently helped her out too.

“It’s my draw…!” said Karle “Since there’s no point in my attacking, I’ll lay these two cards facedown, and end my turn!”

Pinkie remained calm as she thought, “This is it. This may be my last chance to show Karle how fun dueling can be and soften her up.”

She drew her next card giving her three in her hand, and she gave a quirky smile, and she pretended to take the stage again, bathed in spotlight and held out her arms.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, your attention please, I do believe at this point we have reached our grand finale.”

Everyone gawked up at the field with anxiety.

“And just what are you babbling about?” asked Karle.

“Ahh… ask and ye shall receive.

First I summon PERFORMAPAL SKULLCROBAT JOKER!”

Her wicked monster laughed and cackled at everyone.

“He may seem scary, but when he’s summoned, I get to add a “Performapal” from deck to my hand, and I’ll pick PERFORMAPAL U GO GOLEM!”

“Hey, I’ve never seen Pinkie play U Go Golem before.” said Rainbow.

“I can’t wait to see what it can do.” added Fluttershy.

Pinkie held up her cards, “I set the Pendulum Zones with Scale 1 PERFOMAPAL U GO GOLEM and Scale 5 PERFORMAPAL SILVER CLAW!”

Her two monsters appeared in the lights, and the pendulum began to swing between them.

“Now I can summon monsters between Levels 2 and 4 all at the same time…

…And here they come!”

Four shots of light rained down, and her monsters appeared.

Karle’s eyes twitched while shut. “I am getting really tired of seeing these ugly creeps!”

“Ooh, you shouldn’t talk mean like that for such performers.” cautioned Pinkie, but all her monsters looked visibly insulted and looked ready to make Karle pay!

“Uh-oh, you’ve hurt their feelings. I guess they’re going to have to teach you now, especially since I’m going to help myself to your Fusion Gate card once again, banishing my Odd Eyes Synchron with Momoncarpet, and with that, I Fusion Summon my greatest sensation, the pride and joy of my traveling troop…

…PERFORMAPAL ODD-EYES METALCLAW!”

Pinkie’s dragon stomped out forward, and roared loudly for all to hear!

“Boo-Yah!” cried Vic “Way to show her, Pinkie!”

Shining Armor was bouncing giddily cheering “Pin-kie! Pin-kie! Pin-kie…!”

The spectators on the silliness were with glee and excitement.

“She just may win this!” cried Rarity.

“Come on, Pinkie! You can do it!” hollered Sunset.

Pinkie flicked her hair, “Thank you, my friends, but I’m just getting warmed up, because now I activate U Go Goldem’s Pendulum Ability:

Whenever a monster is Fusion Summoned on my field, I get to add a “Performapal” from my Extra Deck to my hand, and I choose my Odd-Eyes Dissolver!”

She knew of her own monster’s ability, and hope she was doing the right thing as she thought, “I don’t know if this is the right choice or not, but it’s all I can hope for right now.”

Karle was looking bored and she spoke irritably, “Are you done yet?”

“Why no, I’m not. After all, a good performance takes time to perfect, and now is the perfect time for me to use this last card in my hand…

…the magic of SMILE WORLD!”

Her card activated and spewed out all those cutesy and happy images of smiles, flowers, sparkles, and everything.

“I just love it when Pinkie plays this card!” cried Rarity “So dazzling! So marvelous…!”

Everyone held out their arms smiling and laughing with glee.

The Prince Brothers looked around at the playful images.

“Hmm! Cute, really.” said Rubeus.

Loki playfully fluttered his fingers through the cute little smiles near him, and he couldn’t help but chuckle.

Karle was repulsed by it all. “You think you can beat me with all these floating what’cha-ma-call-its?!”

“I do…” hissed Pinkie “Because the magic of Smile World grants every monster on the field 100 attack points for every monster in play, and when I say “Every Monster” that includes yours too.”

Since there were five monsters in play, each of them gained a total of 500 attack points.

“I know what you’re all thinking now…” said Pinkie “Leo Dancer is still stronger than any of my creatures, but that can all be changed; thanks to Silver Claw’s Pendulum Ability, all my Performapals gain yet another 300 points!”

Pinkie then engaged her battle phase and ordered her Odd-Eyes to attack!

“And by the way…” she called “When Odd-Eyes attacks, the attack of all my monsters goes up yet another 300 points!”

“No!!” cried Karle.

“It’s lights out for your Leo Dancer!” Pinkie called as her dragon slashed the monster hard, and thanks to her Fireflux, Karle couldn’t play any spells or traps under after the damage!

Karle was furious!

“I can’t believe it!” cried Rarity “She’s actually done it! She’s beaten Karle!!”

“Go on, Pinkie…! Let her have it!” called Rainbow.

Twilight clenched her fists softly, but didn’t let anyone see her nervousness-- which she couldn’t show anyway and for good reason!

But before Pinkie called her attack…!

“Hold on…!” snapped Karle “I activate my other trap, RETURN FROM THE DIFFERENT DIMENSION!”

Pinkie gasped with horror while Karle smirked. “Now by trading half of my life points…

…This trap lets me summon as many of my banished monsters as possible, but they get destroyed at the end of this turn!”

“Oh, no!!” screamed Pinkie.

“Oh, yes…!!” replied Karle as a big rift opened wide, and five shots of light burst through it revealing Karle’s monsters.

“I bring back Panther dancer, two Cat Dancers, Blue Cat, and White Rabbit, to defend me!”

Pinkie stood quivering and stammering at the sight of all those monsters!

“I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS!!” shouted Rainbow. “She had her, and now all of a sudden she has all those fashion freaks lined up defending her!”

Rarity was breathing hard into a paper bag, and Fluttershy hid behind Celestia again.

Sunset clenched her fists with worry!

Twilight looked back and forth at Pinkie and Karle, but then she noticed Pinkie smiling again.

“I figured you’d try something like that, and I was ready for you!”

“You what?!” snapped Karle.

“You’ve been avoiding my Fireflux all game long, and I assumed this one wouldn’t be any different, so I have a little card of my own.

…Activate, EBON ARROW!”

“Ah!”

Pinkie snickered, “This trap weakens Joker’s attack by 500…”

“But it’ll be worth it, because once my Joker attacks your Cat Dancer, not only will you be dealt piercing damage, but you’ll also take damage equal to her defense points, and that’s 2000!!”

Karle growled softly.

“It’s show time!” shouted Pinkie, and she ordered her monster to attack!

Joker leapt forth, the crowd was going wild with cheers for what was sure to be her assured victory, and her kicked the Cat Dancer hard!

…making it fall hard and explode and the shockwaves sped past Karle

“And now…!” shouted Pinkie “Thanks to Ebon’s Arrow, you take another 2000 points of damage, and that’s all folks!”

Karle only laughed wickedly and called “That’s not all!”

The trap card began to glow and fired straight at her.

“Now that the damage step of the battle is over, I activate EMERGENCY PROVISIONS!”

Pinkie gasped.

“This card lets me destroy as many spells and trap cards on my field, and I gain 1000 life points for each one!”

She destroyed her dead Call of the Haunted card, and her Fusion Gate, which granted her 2000 points, just in time to take the hit from Pinkie’s trap, and so she remained at 750.

Pinkie was completely stunned! She just stood where she was, with her eyes wide open and her mouth half agape.

Her friends looked the same way, as did those on the camper.

Masquerade sat watching the TV with his arms folded and shaking his head pitifully.

“Pinkie…” cried Sunset “All her attacks just weren’t enough.”

“Well, there’s still a chance.” said Terra, “Remember, Karle’s monsters all get destroyed now.”

She was right. Pinkie had to end her turn, and the remaining monsters all exploded and were gone, while she still had all of hers, but because her smile world card had worn off, all her monster’s lost the 500 attack bonus they had.

Karle’s hand was quite empty, and all she had on the field was her Lunalight Tiger in the Pendulum Zone.

Pinkie still said nothing and remained where she was, stiff and still.

Karle snickered, “It’s my turn.”

She drew her card, “Well, well, look what I have here; it’s another Lunalight Wolf, and I’ll place it in my Pendulum Zone!”

Nobody liked the looks of this one bit, especially since Karle was grinning wickedly, and not smiling the way Pinkie wanted.

“I use Lunalight Wolf’s Pendulum ability, which allows me to Fusion Summon simply by banishing monsters in my graveyard!”

Pinkie’s eyes bulged even wider!

“So, once again I banish Panther Dancer, and two Cat Dancers, in order to summon LUNALIGHT LEO DANCER!”

Pinkie’s arms softly fell to her sides. She knew she was finished. There was no way she could stop it now!

Her friends could see this as well.

“I can’t watch!” cried Rarity.

“Me nether!” whimpered Fluttershy.

The others all did watch in shame and misery.

“Leo Dancer destroys Odd-Eyes Metal Claw!” ordered Karle, and with one swing of its blade, Pinkie’s monster was toast!”

Pinkie didn’t even flinch; she was too lost in shock.

“And now…” sneered Karle “Leo Dancer’s ability destroys every monster that was special summoned that you control!”

All of Pinkie’s monsters were gone, one after another!

“And finally, Leo Dancer may attack once more, and that wipes you out!”

The monster lunged forth and struck Pinkie hard, knocking her over flat on her back!

The friends all looked sadly up.

Those on the camper gawked at the screen miserably.

“Oh, Pinkie…” Robins sighed sadly.

The Prince Brothers just sat comfortably in their seats without much emotion showing. It was what it was and no one could change that now.

Twilight looked over at Karle as the duel images vanished, and Karle could only say, “…Show’s over! Smiles lose!”

The referee made it official as he announced “And the winner is Karle Plight!”

With that, Karle turned and walked off the platform, stopping just before one of the cameras.

“Masquerade…! If you’re watching this, a fair warning! I’m coming for you next, and I won’t lose to you!”

He heard her, and he was not impressed as he poured himself a drink of soda. “…That’s what they all say.” and he softly lifted his mask to fit the straw underneath to his mouth.

Karle then walked off towards the elevator.

“Hey, you get back here right now!!” shouted Rainbow.

Sunset grabbed her by the arm, “Never mind her!” and she motioned over at Pinkie.

The others had climbed up onto the platform, and comforted Pinkie who still seemed really down and upset.

“You okay, sugar cube?” asked Applejack.

“Pinkie, we don’t know what to say.” said Celestia.

Pinkie still said not a word, and the referee then announced, “Attention! Please clear the duel field! The next match of the quarter finals will begin in twenty minutes!”

Terra and Rainbow both looked at one another. They knew they had to prepare themselves, but they were still concerned about Pinkie.

The others helped her off the platform, and she was at least walking, but still looking down at the ground with the beaten look on her face.

“Pinkie...” said Sunset “If it means anything, you really put a great duel.”

“Yeah, you almost actually had her!” added Rainbow, but the others gave her a “Not Helping” glare, but Pinkie started to look up, and she spoke softly…

“That… was…” she paused and her lips curled into a smile “… The most challenging duel I’ve ever had.”

Everyone was speechless at the moment, and confused, but Pinkie just kept that soft smile on her face.

The others couldn’t understand it, but they were proud of her, and came together in a big group hug.

The Brothers were intrigued by all this.

“Their friendship is very powerful.” said Rubeus “Even after all this, they still remain optimistic and strong; determined to achieve their goals.”

Loki nodded, “I wonder how things will go in the next duel?”

He looked down at Terra and Rainbow, knowing they were friends and it would be difficult to face one another.

They would all find out soon!
