Next morning, the Equestria Girls race over to Sunset Shimmer’s house and meet up at the front door. They’ve been summoned by an emergency text message. “I wonder why Sunset would send us an emergency text.” Twilight said.
“She said it’s a shocking surprise,” Rainbow Dash said.
“Maybe another guitar string emergency,” Applejack said smugly.
“Right,” Rainbow commented.
Twilight knocks on the door. “Sunset,” she called. “We’re here. Are you in there?”
“You guys can come in,” Sunset responded from inside. “Just don’t freak out when you see me.”
The girls are concerned as they enter. Sunset is up in her bedroom area and appears before them as a unicorn. Her friends are wide-eyed, surprised by what they see.
“Oh… my… goodness,” Rarity said. “You’re-- You’re--”
“Back in my pony form,” Sunset said.
“And you really are amazing as a unicorn,” Fluttershy commented.
“But how is this possible,” Twilight asked.
They took a seat with Sunset as she explains. “I don’t know how this happened,” she said. “Last night I woke up when I felt a strange pulse and I found myself this.”
“I think it was Trixie,” Pinkie suspected. “Because her wand is magical now. She did say she likes unicorns.”
“But, it doesn’t mean she wants Sunset to be a unicorn,” Fluttershy said. “Besides, she gave her wand to her.”
Sunset levitates Trixie’s wand to her. “And I don’t think it grants wishes either,” she said and gives it to Twilight. “See if it can change forms.”
“I’ll try,” Twilight said. She activates the wand’s magic and casts it on Sunset. But it turned her into a book illustration on a piece of paper.
“Okay,” Sunset said. “Maybe you need to clear your head to do it.”
“Here,” Pinkie said, grabbing the wand. “Let me try.” She casts its magic again and turns Sunset into a balloon pony.
“Pinkie,” Sunset said. “You’re not clearing your head!”
“Don’t worry, I can get it," Pinkie said. She keeps turning her into common objects. Sunset talks as she transforms.
“Just…” changing to an inflatable.
“Stop…” changing to candy.
“Changing…” changing to a carousel pony.
“Forms!” The table breaks under Sunset by her weight. She takes the wand away from Pinkie and changes herself back to normal pony.
“Sorry,” Pinkie apologized.
“And I think we get the point that it only creates objects,” Applejack said.
“Which means,” Twilight said. “Something else must have caused this.”
“I think this is something we ponies never heard of,” Sunset said. “I’ll have to explain this to Princess Twilight. Time for another visit to Equestria.”
At Canterlot High, Sunset’s friends try to keep her hidden from the public until they come to the portal to Equestria. She was ready to go through while the others were thinking of coming too.
“I don’t suppose we could come with you,” Applejack said. “I sure like to meet the pony me.”
The other girls agreed as Sunset was concerned about it. “But it could make things pretty confusing with you as ponies,” she said.
“I’m sure there’d be a difference between us and them,” Rainbow Dash said.
“Like between me and princess me,” Twilight added. “Because of my glasses and no wings.”
“Besides,” Pinkie said. “We managed to lay low last time and maybe they could help us with our pony forms.”
“Like I couldn’t fly good as a pegasus,” Rainbow Dash said. “And Twilight had trouble using her unicorn horn.”
“But maybe you won’t turn into ponies,” Sunset thought. “Because when I turned back here, I think you’ll still be in your human forms there.”
“That’d be a relief to me,” Rarity said. “It was difficult for me to get used to being something else other than a human.”
“But let's see what happens,” Sunset said. “But what about the fair?”
“Eh, we got time,” Rainbow reassured. “So, let’s go.”
Sunset was the first to step through the portal. One by one, her friends followed her through.
On the other side, Sunset emerges from the Crystal Mirror and into the Castle of Friendship in Equestria. The rest of the girls emerge from the mirror. Unfortunately, like Sunset thought, they’re still in their human forms. But they sprouted their pony ears and wings.
“I knew it,” Sunset said.
“At least, you don’t have to worry about being something else,” Applejack said to Rarity.
“But check it out,” Rainbow Dash said. “We can still pony up here.”
“The pony us would be surprised to see us as humans,” Pinkie said, “Right?”
"Of course they would,” Twilight said. “They never seen humans before and this will be the first time.”
Sunset leads the Human Six through the castle to the throne room. They stopped at the door while Sunset peeks through the keyhole. She sees Princess Twilight and her pony friends sitting in their thrones.
“Let me greet them first and I’ll let you know when,” Sunset said to her friends, nodding in agreement.
Sunset enters the room and calls out in excitement, “Twilight!”
Princess Twilight hears this and sees Sunset. “Sunset Shimmer,” she said excitedly. They both share a hug with each other. “Welcome back.”
“Thanks,” Sunset said. “It’s nice to see you.” She looks at the Pony Five, feeling nervous. “But I guess the rest of you don’t seem glad to meet me after the first and only time you saw me.”
“Why, of course not,” Rarity said. “We all heard how Twilight helped you change.”
“And I did greet you, the other Rainbow dash and Twilight the last time you were here,” Pinkie said.
“Wait,” Rainbow Dash said. “The other me visited here before?”
“Yes,” Sunset said. “And speaking of which.”
Sunset uses her magic to open the door and reveals the Human Six. Twilight greets them first, “Um… hello?”
The Pony Six are astonished to see their human counterparts. Even pony Pinkie gave out a prolonged gasp and reacted the same way when she first met Twilight.
“Well, I’ll be,” stunned Applejack.
“Oh, my goodness,” surprised Rarity.
“The human us,” Fluttershy gasped.
“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!” Rainbow Dash repeated. She zooms towards her human self, tackling her to the floor. “How awesome this is to meet myself from the other world!”
“I would’ve said the same when I visited before,” Rainbow said. “But Sunset didn’t want us to draw attention or we wouldn't tell who is who as the same being.”
Pony Fluttershy flies around human Fluttershy, utterly amazed. “This is so amazing,” she said.
“I know,” Fluttershy said, nuzzling pony her.
As both sets of the Main Five excitedly meet their counterparts, Princess Twilight was stunned into silence seeing that the Human Six didn’t become ponies.
“Even we were surprised when we saw Sunset in her pony form,” Twilight said.
“Which is why we came to talk about this,” Sunset said.
For a while, the Human Six sit with the Pony Six as Sunset explains the problem to Princess Twilight.
“So, what you're saying, Sunset,” Twilight said. “Is that the pulse you felt might’ve affected the portal?”
“That’s right,” Sunset said. “So travelers like us would stay in their true forms. This never happened before.”
“Maybe it's when I sealed the crack and magic burst out,” Twilight theorized.
“I don’t think so,” Rainbow Dash said. “Because I checked it before we left and it’s still sealed. Maybe another artifact?”
“I don’t know,” Twilight said. “But me and Spike will have to do research.”
“Me and Sunset can help too,” Twilight said. “And you ponies show your other selves around your home.”
“What about laying low, Sunset,” Applejack asked.
“Now you’re still humans,” Sunset said. “No worrying about getting mixed up.”
Both sets of the Main Five leave the room to tour Ponyville as both Twilights, Sunset and Spike head to the castle library.
At Sweet Apple Acres, pony Applejack shows human Applejack around her farm.
"You know," Applejack said. "My Twilight told me about your farm and what it's called."
"And what is your farm like in your world," Applejack asked.
"Not that big like yours," Applejack said. "And after graduation, that's what I'll be making."
"While you plan that," Applejack said. "You should practice how I do applebucking." She shows human Applejack how she harvests apples from the orchard. She lets her try buck apples, which impresses her.
“You make apple harvesting look so easy,” Applejack said.
“I guess you haven’t tried it before,” Applejack said. “Have you?”
“I don’t have an apple orchard,” Applejack said. “But now I want one to drum up my own business.” She suddenly bumps into another pony, who reveals to be Big McIntosh. “Surprised to see your sister from an alternate world?”
“Eeyup,” Big McIntosh said.
At pony Fluttershy's cottage, her animal friends greet human Fluttershy, who was excited about meeting them. They also take her to the Sweet Feather Sanctuary, where she feels more amazed.
"This is the same thing I'm planning at home too," Fluttershy said. "Along with flying ballet that would raise health money."
"Flying ballet," Fluttershy asked. "I would like to try that too. But I would do it to entertain my animals, because I still have a little stage fright to perform to ponies."
"I'm sure you might overcome your fear," Fluttershy said.
At Sugarcube Corner, pony Pinkie Pie takes human Pinkie Pie into her party-planning cave. She was impressed how the pony her kept files of everyone's type of parties.
“You have a party-planning cave,” Pinkie asked excitedly. “Why do the ponies think of stuff like this before I do? I should make one of my own too!”
At pony Rarity’s Carousel Boutique, human Rarity is dazzled by the dresses her pony self makes.
"All your dresses are so styling," Rarity commented.
"What, these old things," Rarity giggled. "You know, have you tried making season-themed dresses?"
"How'd you know," Rarity asked. "That's exactly what I made. Including, holiday-theme and music, which Rainbow Dash likes because they're like our instruments."
"So, like instrument costumes that can play real music," Rarity asked. "Not a bad idea and you'll have to show me. Well, if Twilight would allow us to visit."
And last, pony Rainbow Dash shows human Rainbow around her Cloudominium and introduces her to the Wonderbolts, who makes her so excited about it.
"So, you're a human of Rainbow Dash from another world," Spitfire asked.
"That's right," Rainbow Dash said. "And around here, you do flying acrobatics and demonstrations?"
"Exactly," Rainbow Dash said in her Wonderbolt uniform. "Wanna see our performance?
Human Rainbow Dash watches her pony self perform their routine as she records it on her phone. "Now this is how I would practice," she said. "To see how they do it."
Back in the castle library, Sunset, Spike and human Twilight read through almost all of Princess Twilight's books. But none of them have any information of the portal's effect.
“These books are amazing and new to me,'' Twilight said. “But I just don’t think any of them have what we’re looking for.”
In a flash, Princess Twilight teleported from Canterlot. “I even looked in the library in Canterlot, the restricted section and the book of the mirror,” she said exhausted. “But I couldn’t find anything.”
“Is it beyond pony history,” Spike asked.
“I’m just not sure,” Twilight said. “I’m sorry, Sunset. I’m afraid the portal’s effect must’ve worn off and you’re gonna have to accept being a pony in your world.”
Sunset feels sad about it but human Twilight cheers her up, “But your unicorn magic could help others that I can’t, which is lifting things.”
“I guess it could,” Sunset said. She spots another book in the pile and takes it. It reveals to be a copy of the Pony Six’s Journal of Friendship. “What’s this book,” she asked.
“That’s our friendship journal,” Twilight said. “It’s where we keep our friendship lessons written that we learned from each other. I thought of publishing it before so ponies can learn from our lessons if they have problems. But it made our lives miserable when they never learned from them.”
“They even think we were characters in a book,” Spike said.
“But two fillies learned and helped us learn fads come and go, friendship is forever,” Twilight said.
“That’s why you should just keep journals to yourself,” Twilight said.
“You can keep a copy if you want,” Twilight said. “And you can take some more from our recalled shipment for your friends.”
“One will be okay,” Sunset said. “Let's go join them on the tour.”
Outside, they meet their friends on the stairs, where the Human Six told the Pony Six stories of their adventures of facing magic in their world.
"I see you're telling them about how we solved our magic problems," Sunset said.
"And we just finished telling when we first discovered our geode powers," Applejack said.
“And you’d like our wardrobes when we power up,” Rarity said.
“That sounds nice,” Rarity said. “But how about our School of Friendship?”
The Human Six are surprised when they notice the School of Friendship. Even human Twilight was excited to see it. “You have your own school to teach friendship,” she asked.
“For those from and beyond Equestria to learn about the Magic of Friendship,” Twilight said.
“Five of our students are non-pony creatures,” Pinkie said. “A dragon, a griffon, a yak, a changeling, and a hippogriff that can also transform into a seapony.
“How’d you like to meet them and our world’s Cutie Mark Crusaders they’re hanging out with,” Rainbow Dash asked.
Humans Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Rarity were surprised to hear about their pony sisters. They each finish their sentence as they asked.
“You mean the pony Sweetie Belle…” Rarity started.
“Apple Bloom…” Applejack second.
“And Scootaloo?!” Rainbow Dash finished.
“But let’s show you around our school first,” Twilight said. “And we’ll introduce you to them.”
Later, the Cutie Mark Crusaders were at the lake hanging out with the Young Six when the main cast arrived.
“Enjoying your time with our students,” Applejack asked.
Before Apple Bloom could answer, she, the CMC and the Young Six became shocked to see the Human Six. Princess Twilight starts to introduce them, “Students and Crusaders, there are our-”
Right in mid-sentence, the CMC zoom past Twilight and up to their human sisters excited. Apple Bloom asked, “You’re our sisters and friends from another world?!”
“That’s right we are,” Applejack said petting her pony sister.
Human Rarity picks up pony Sweetie Belle, “And you make our sisters look so cute.”
“I wish we could meet them,” said Sweetie Belle.
“Well, we do have a picture of them,” Rainbow Dash said. She takes out her phone and shows them a picture of the human Crusaders.
“Whoa…” the CMC said amazed.
“But they don’t have our cutie marks,” Scootaloo said.
“So these are different versions of our teachers from another world,” asked Silverstream. “Didn’t we learn about that?”
“Not that you should,” Sunset said. “And they’re called humans in case you never heard of.”
“Sunset Shimmer was from here before she decided to live in their world,” Twilight said. “Usually, the portal turns you into what they are in their world, but now it doesn’t. Anyway, Sunset, girls, these are our non-pony students. Sandbar is the only pony of their group.”
“We have our griffon student, Gallus,” Rainbow Dash said. “From Griffonstone.”
“What’s up,” Gallus greeted.
“Smolder from the dragon lands,” Rarity said.
“Hey,” Smolder greeted.
“Ocellus of the changelings,” Fluttershy said.
“Hi,” Ocellus greeted.
“Yona the yak from Yakyakistan,” Pinkie said.
“Yona glad to meet human teachers,” Yona said.
“And Silverstream,” Applejack said. “Who is a hippogriff from Mount Aris.”
“And also, a seapony in Seaquestria,” Silverstream said.
“It’s nice to meet all of you,” Sunset said. “Things have changed since I was last in Equestria. Seeing how other creatures become friends. Especially about changelings turning good and hippogriffs. How do you turn into seaponies too?”
“We each have a piece of our queen’s magic pearl,” Silverstream explains. “She used it to turn us into seaponies and take refuge in Seaquestria when the Storm King invaded Mount Aris. After his defeat, our queen split the pearl in pieces so we can freely switch forms and visit both our homes on land and sea. It works on other creatures too when I touch them and activate it at the same time. Like this.”
Silverstream demonstrates by using her pearl fragment to transform herself and Sunset into seaponies. The Human Six are fascinated as well as Sunset. “This is amazing,” she said. She enjoys herself swimming as a seapony as the Human Six mingle with the Young Six and the CMC.
“So, changelings are creatures that can shape-shift into anyone or anything,” Pinkie said to Ocellus. “Can they also mimic voices?”
“Can they also mimic voices,” Ocellus said in Pinkie’s voice. She giggled in her normal voice, “Even I didn’t know I could.”
“Don’t you think you should have nicknames to tell you apart,” Sandbar asked and turned to human Twilight. “Like, what if we call you Sci-Twi, short for Science Twilight, because you look like you know science more than magic.”
“You’re right.” Sci-Twi said. “I like that name.”
“How about we show them our geodes,” Sunset asked as Silverstream turned her back. “We each have magical geode necklaces that give us special powers. Mine’s probably combined with my unicorn magic. But it allows me to read others' thoughts when I touch them and understand what they’re feeling.”
“Our powers are the same as what the pony us can do,” Sci-Twi explained. “Mine is telekinesis.”
“Super speed,” Rainbow Dash demonstrated.
“Super strength,” Applejack demonstrated.
“Diamond shields,” Rarity demonstrated.
“Talking to animals,” Fluttershy demonstrated.
“And sugar bombs,” Pinkie demonstrated.
“I don’t have that power,” Pinkie said. “But it’s interesting.”
“You know,” Smolder said to Sunset. “I doubt a pony can read minds.
“Me too,” Gallus replied. “So if I touch you, you’ll start reading my mind.”
Gallus places his claw on Sunset and her mind-reading powers activated. Just then, her horn magically broadcasts a recording of Gallus' thoughts.
*FLASHBACK*
Gallus was facing his fear to escape the shrinking chamber when he was being tested by the Tree of Harmony. He confesses it to Silverstream, “I'm afraid of being trapped, too! I'm scared of small spaces.”
“Really,” Silverstream asked.
“Yeah,” Gallus said. “And I was stuck in a room that kept shrinking. But I realized I had to face my fear, and I found the way out.”
In the next scene, the Young Six meets the Tree of Harmony’s transparent projection of Twilight.
“The Tree of Harmony turned into a sparkly version of our headmare to talk to us,” Silverstream asked. “Did I miss a chapter in class?”
“Like all living things,” the Tree of Harmony explained. “I change as I grow. As I have grown, so have my abilities.”
“I'm a bit rusty on pony history,” Gallus said. “But since when does the Tree of Harmony trap creatures in a cave with their biggest fears?!”
“You chose what you saw in my roots,” the Tree said. “Not me.”
“Our friendship got us past our fears,” Sandbar said.
“You were more concerned with each other's well-being than your own,” the Tree explained. “You were strong when your friends were weak. You let each other in and showed that you would be there for each other, no matter what. Friendship is in your nature.”
“We just learned a friendship lesson from a tree,” Gallus said to Sandbar. “Didn't we?”
*END OF FLASHBACK*
Sunset finishes viewing Gallus’ thoughts as he pulls himself away from her surprise.
“Okay,” Gallus said. “That was kind of cool.”
“And I didn’t know my powers could do that,” Sunset said.
“I guess only when you’re a unicorn,” Sci-Twi said.
“I’m more surprised as you are,” Twilight said. “Especially that the Tree of Harmony talks to you with a projection of me and tested your friendship!”
Smolder tells Twilight what she told them before, “Almost as if it has a mind of its own, right? Do me next.” She touches Sunset next and has her broadcast her thoughts.
*FLASHBACK*
Smolder confronts her fear of liking cute things and confesses it to Ocellus. “I like cute, silly stuff! But ever since school started, I've realized that sometimes I kinda don't mind cute stuff.” She gets laughed at by Ocellus until she stops. “If a dragon like me can admit she likes tea parties, that's proof we can change.”
*END OF FLASHBACK*
“Okay, bad idea,” Smolder said embarrassed as the broadcasting ended. “Please promise me you’ll all keep this to yourselves.”
“Your secret’s safe with us,” said Sandbar. He suddenly notices something with Sunset and asks, “Did Twilight tell you what happens when your cutie mark glows?”
Sunset looks at her cutie mark, which is glowing. “What’s wrong with my cutie mark,” she asks Twilight, who is in complete shock to see this.
“I don’t believe it,” Twilight said. “You’re being called by the map!”
