I Don't Wanna Live Forever

Acceptance (Edited)

Twilight watched the two former princesses of Equestria at her side. Celestia and Luna looked at Twilight sadly. While Celestia was trying not to cry, Luna was almost on the verge of tears.

Seeing the two sad ex-princesses made Twilight’s heart break. She never saw the two sad princesses before, well, except when Celestia was sad when she realized that her ex mentor was a little sad because Luna was on the moon, and Luna because she felt the ponies were afraid of her even though she was made friends with them during Nightmare Night, but they started to be afraid of her, resulting in Luna get mad and canceled Nightmare Night, but at least Luna allowed to have Nightmare Night again after discovering that the ponies were only acting on account of the holiday.

Twilight started thinking about a solution. She didn’t want to give up, but she also didn’t want Celestia and Luna to be sad about her death, even if it was something that always happened to everypony. She started to walk in circles, thinking of a solution.

She didn’t know what to do. This wasn’t in her plans. Her plan was for her to die without a problem, but it looked like the future had something up her sleeve. She looked at Celestia and saw that her ex mentor hugged Luna with a wing while Luna, was already crying with sadness. Twilight knew that the ex-princesses were saddened by the possible future death of the Equestria ruler. So how was she going to solve this? Until an idea came to her head.

Twilight approached Celestia and Luna with a smile. “Celestia, Luna,” Celestia and Luna looked at Twilight Sparkle. “I have an idea that could solve all of this.”

“Are you going to stay alive?” asked Celestia, with a small hopeful smile.

“No,” Celestia’s smile fell. “But, I was thinking about this situation and I came to a conclusion.”

 “Which one is it then?”

“I’m realizing that you two are very sad about my death that will occur, so I thought: Why die alone if you two can go with me too?”

Celestia and Luna were confused. “What?”

“You two could die with me.” Twilight summed up her idea as she smiled.

Celestia and Luna gaped. Literally. Did they hear right? Was Twilight’s idea that they would die together?

“Is your idea that me, Luna and you would die together so that we could be with you, even during death?” asked Celestia to be sure.

“Yes, Celestia,” replied Twilight, still smiling. “So? Do you two agree to do that?”

Celestia and Luna looked at each other for a few seconds before looking back at Twilight Sparkle. “But what about the other ponies, Twilight? They will miss us and they will forget us.”

Twilight Sparkle approached Celestia and Luna and put a wing on the two former princesses. “Celestia, they will miss you, yes. But, all ponies die one day. No one lives forever, well, except alicorns. And they will not forget you two, just as I am sure they will not forget me either.”

Celestia and Luna were surprised by the Twilight speech. They couldn’t help noticing that Twilight has become somepony with enough wisdom since she started to rule Equestria. “So? Do you two accept?”

“We aren’t sure, Twilight. How is Cadence running the Crystal Empire?” asked Celestia.

Twilight’s smile fell at the thought of Cadence. “Cadence passed away years ago. She had taken away her immortality as soon as Shining Armor died. And since Flurry Heart had already become an adult alicorn mare, so she passed the throne to Flurry Heart. Flurry and I are practically the only princesses left in Equestria.”

Celestia and Luna were surprised. They never imagined that Cadence would also decide to take away her immortality. But they wondered if Discord took away Cadence’s immortality. “Who took Cadence’s immortality?”

“I really don’t know, Celestia. I’m sorry, ” replied Twilight. “But you two didn’t answer my question. Would you two like to die with me?”

Celestia looked at her sister before looking at Twilight Sparkle. “Can Luna and I talk privately outside the room?”

Twilight Sparkle was a little surprised, but soon smiled. “Sure.”

“Thank you, Twilight.” Celestia and Luna left the room that Twilight was in and closed the door.

“So, Luna? What do you think? Should we accept passing away with Twilight?” asked Celestia as she approached Luna.

“I don’t know, Celestia. I want to die together with my best friend so that we can continue together even in death, but at the same time, I also don’t want to die because I will miss my ex subjects, especially Pipsqueak.” Luna scratched her knee with a hoof. “And you?”

“I also want to die to be with Twilight so I don’t miss her, but I also don’t want to die because I’m going to miss her too and my other former subjects as well,” replied Celestia. “What are we going to do, Luna? Should we accept to die with Twilight or should we continue to be immortal?”

“I don’t know, sister. I would like to go with Twilight so I don’t miss her, but I would like to continue to be immortal to enjoy our retirement from the throne,” replied Luna. “I never imagined that if we retirement from the throne it would happen this.”

“I also didn’t think that would happen, Luna,” agreed Celestia. She started to wonder if they hadn’t retire from the throne, Twilight wouldn’t be suffering from the loss of her friends. “When Twilight was named the new ruler of Equestria, I expected her to rule Equestria for generations.”

“Me too,” agreed Luna. “Sister, what are we going to do?” She wanted to believe that there was another way besides death.

Since Celestia was the older sister, it was up to her to decide everything. She started to think. Twilight was one of the mares that made her happy during Luna’s banishment. Since she saw Twilight at the Summer Sun celebration, she felt a motherly love for Twilight, as Twilight was one of the only ones who seemed happy to see her raise the sun during the celebration.

And when she made Twilight her student, things just got better for her. Twilight has always been close to her, and she has always been close to Twilight. It was like Twilight was her daughter and she was the mother of Twilight.

Celestia suddenly felt a very strong feeling in her. She wanted to be together with Twilight, more than anything, especially during death. Because she knew that if she didn’t go with Twilight, she would be suffering the same thing that she felt during her years in government in Equestria: Mourning. This was her chance to be reunited with her former subjects and friends from the past. And Celestia knew that Luna cared about Twilight too. It wasn’t a maternal love like hers, but Luna cared about Twilight just like a best friend.

She looked at Luna. “Luna, I already decided.”

Luna looked at Celestia and waited patiently for an answer. “I am listening.”

“We are going to give up our immortality and die together with Twilight Sparkle,” said Celestia.

Luna looked concerned. She didn’t know whether to accept that. “But sister, what about our retirement? We had retired to enjoy and relax our lives as former princesses.”

Celestia approached Luna. “Luna, I know that you want to continue to enjoy our retirament. I want it too, but if we don’t go along with Twilight, we will be suffering the same feeling as before.”

Luna was confused. “How can we be suffering the same feeling as before?”

“We will see another friend of ours die. And Twilight is one of our last friends left in Equestria,” replied Celestia.

Luna was now uncertain. Although what Celestia said was true. When she and Celestia ruled Equestria, they made friends, especially Celestia. But their immortality prevented them from dying with their former friends. But now, thanks to Twilight, they could go see their old friends, be with Twilight, and also be together with her sister if Celestia intended to die along with Twilight. Luna made her decision.

“So? You accept?” asked Celestia, noting the silence.

Luna looked at Celestia with a determined and courageous look. “Yes. I accept.”

They went to the door and opened it with their magic and approached Twilight. “Twilight, we already decide.”

Twilight Sparkle looked at Celestia and Luna, and they approached.

“My sister and I talked, and we decided that we are going to get rid of our immortality to die with you,” said Celestia.

Twilight Sparkle smiled with joy. “Really? Are you going with me too?”

“Yes, Twilight. Because that way we can see our old friends,” replied Luna as she smiled,“ and also your friends.”

Twilight Sparkle was nothing more than surprised by this. “Wow. I really don’t know what to say. For a moment, I thought you two wouldn’t want to.”

“What are you going to do next, Twilight?” asked Celestia.

“First, I will announce my retirament as Equestria’s ruler for Luster Dawn, then I will crown Luster Dawn as Equestria’s ruler, then I will ask Discord to take away my immortality and yours as well.” Twilight explained her plan.

“Don’t you think it’s best to talk to Discord first?”

“I would rather announce my retirament than speak to Discord before,” replied Twilight. “Since I need to do all this so that we can get together with our friends.”

Luna smiled at what Twilight Sparkle said. “It’s a good point, Twilight.”

“Thank you, Luna. Well, let’s go to Canterlot,” said Twilight Sparkle.

“Are we going to fly back to Canterlot or are we going by train?” asked Luna as she lifted a hoof.

“Let’s fly to Canterlot,” replied Twilight as she started to walk out of the castle library. Luna and Celestia followed her.

Spike was sitting in his seat, signed papers. He wondered if Twilight was going to take too long to come back. He also wondered if Celestia and Luna would continue to stay with Twilight or if they would continue to enjoy the retirament.

The door to the throne room opened, revealing Twilight, Celestia and Luna. Spike realized that Twilight was smiling. He dropped the parchment and quill and went to Twilight. “Twilight! You’re smiling!”

 “Yes, Spike,” said Twilight Sparkle.

“Are you feeling better?” asked Spike as he was concerned.

 “Yes, Spike.”

Spike’s concern was gone, he smiled. Twilight approached Spike. “Spike, I have some good news.”

 “What is the good news?”

“I managed to find a way to get rid of my immortality so I can get together with my friends,” replied Twilight. “The ex-princesses also decided that they are going to get rid of their immortality to see their old friends again.”

As much as Spike was happy for Twilight, something worried him. “So, am I going to outlive you and the others ponies?”

“Yes,” replied Twilight. “Why? Does living longer than us bother you?”

Spike looked at the floor, feeling guilty. “Yes. Since Rarity passed away, my long years of life have been bothering me a lot lately. I miss Rarity and my other friends.”

“But Spike, dragons live longer than ponies.” explained Twilight Sparkle.

Spike looked at Twilight Sparkle. “I know, Twilight. But I wish there was a way to take my long years away from me so I could be together with Rarity.”

Twilight Sparkle started to think. She put the hoof on her chin in thought. How could she solve this problem that Spike was going through? Well, she and the ex-princesses would get rid of her immortality to join their friends. Perhaps Discord will be able to take the long lives of creatures that live longer?

She would have liked to have researched a book before, but she knew that now she couldn’t, since she was no longer in the library of her old castle to continue researching. She remembered that in the book she had read that immortal creatures can also take away immortality from not only ponies, but also other immortal creatures. But there was a problem. Spike was a dragon, and dragons aren’t immortal, they just live longer than ponies.

She looked at Spike. Spike was looking to the side, sadly. Twilight didn’t know if it was possible, but she started to think that creatures with powers would also be able to shorten the lives of other creatures that lived longer. Maybe if she spoke to Discord, maybe he could shorten Spike’s life so that Spike could reunite with Rarity? She wasn’t sure, but she decided to believe it would work.

Twilight Sparkle looked at Spike. “Spike, I have an idea.”

Spike looked at Twilight Sparkle. “I am not sure if it is scientifically possible, but my idea is that if we went to Discord not only to take away my immortality and that of the ex princesses, but also your long years of life.”

Spike smiled. “It’s a good idea. But will we do that now?”

“Not yet. First, I will announce my retirement for Luster Dawn,” replied Twilight.

 “And then?” asked Spike.

“Later, I will crown her the new ruler of Equestria, and then we will go to Discord.” Twilight brought out an ink, parchment and quill, and started writing.

The ex-princesses and Spike watched Twilight write. When it was over, Twilight read what she had written, but didn’t say it out loud. “My former student Luster Dawn, I need you at Canterlot Castle. I have news to give you. Signed Princess Twilight Sparkle.”

Twilight Sparkle made the pen and ink disappear, rolled up the parchment and approached Spike. “Spike, send this letter to Luster Dawn.”

Spike smiled. “Okay,” he went to a window, inhaled and blew a green fire.

That done, he went to Twilight Sparkle. “And now? What will we do?”

Twilight Sparkle went to her throne to sit. “Now, let’s wait for Luster Dawn to arrive.”

Spike decided to return to her seat to wait for Luster Dawn. While Celestia and Luna decided to wait in the same place as they were before.
