Prologue

“I hate you!” Cadence had screamed with tears streaming down her face.

Chrysalis’ heart had wrenched at the words as she felt a rush of dread. “Cadie… You- you don’t mean that.”

“I do! You’re a monster! And you’re not my sister! All you do is take! You don’t know how to love because all you care about is yourself!”

“Cadence, please! Would you just lis-“

“I’m done being your keeper! I’m done with defending you! You ruin everything! And now I have to give up my life and-“ Cadence screamed in frustration as she angrily swiped all her cosmetics off her vanity making a mess on the carpet. “Just leave Chrysalis! Get out!” She cried too upset to even verbalize her feelings.

“No! I’m not leaving!” Chrysalis stood her ground, eyes narrowing with determination. “Regal Royale is a selfish, pig! You’d believe that chauvinistic cum stain over me?! I’m your si-”

“I saw you!” The Alicorn of love enunciated remorselessly. “I walked in on you!”

Chrysalis paled at her sister’s words as her stomach lurched with shame. ”Cadence…” To know that her sister had seen even a fraction of what happened to her made it hard to think let alone speak.

“Nothing to say?” Cadence asked, her voice low and bitter. “I opened the door and there you were- naked and, and moaning…” She shivered in disgust before her hardened gaze locked onto the girl she thought she knew. “I asked for your help and you… You only thought of yourself.”

Chrysalis’s mouth worked, but no sound came out. I should’ve never gone to that party, she thought angrily, unconsciously balling her fist.

“God, you’re pathetic!” Cadence folded her arms across her chest as her face twisted in a sneer. “Regal was right... You really are an attention seeking slut! You’re an embar-” The cerise colored girl cried out in pain as her sister’s nails swiped across her face in a lapse of pure rage.

“Don’t you ever! Ever say that again!” Chrysalis thundered as her body shook with ire. Even with her distorted vision she could tell she’d split her sister’s face.

Cadence’s expression was a mix of anger and fear. “Get out!” She hissed as her voice trembled and she clutched at her oozing face. “Get out now!”

Without a second thought, the older of two fled in the face of the other girl’s hurt filled stare. She disappeared into the night as her own heart burst in despair.
