Blue Electric's Destiny

Ch.8: The Silver Fox

It's been two weeks since the accident at the Wonderbolts show and the strange dream. Blue spent days wondering what it could mean but she lost interest and shrugged it off as just a weird dream.

She even blamed Pinkie's sweets for it. She was in the hospital waiting for her cast to be removed.

Nurse Redheart walked in. "You ready to have your wing cast remove, Miss Electric?" Blue nodded her head with determination, her blue eyes narrowed. "I was born ready." The white earth pony bite at it and ripped it apart.

Blue smiled as she moved her now healed up wing. She said her thanks to the nurse and head out the hospital. She walked out, moving her wing. She flapped her wings hovering a bit and landed back on the ground feeling satisfied.

She took off, flying around town for a moment and landed on a large cloud. She sighed with relief as she laid down on the soft fluffy surface.

Oh, how she misses sleeping on one! She shifted to her side, gazing down at the busy town below her. She was about to drift off to snooze, when she felt something brushing her ear.

She flicked her ear, thinking nothing of it. But then she felt it again. She heard a whisper in her ear. "Guess who's behind you." Blue's eyes shot open.

"Spitfire?" She turned around to see the fiery pegasus smiling at her. "I thought you were finishing up your tour."

"Already done. I thought I come back and check on you." She lied down, brushing up against her. Blue glanced at her friend. "That's very considerate of you." She said, smiling at her as she flipped herself around.

Spitfire leaned down and touched her ear with her nose. "I can be a very considerate pony when I want to."

She glanced at Blue's now unbandaged wing. She grinned. "I see that your wing got better."

Blue nodded. "Just got the cast taken off today." She yawned. Spitfire notice."Tired?"

The black mare nodded. "It's been a long morning. I guess it's also my fault that I stayed awake until nine in the morning." She glanced back at her. "I was getting ready to nap, when you decided interrupt me."

"Sorry about that." She apologized. "You know, coming to think of it, I guess I'll nap too." Spitfire positioned herself so she can lie on her side, while resting her head onto Blue's side. She glanced at her friend, who was already asleep.

She smiled as stroke the spiky, but surprisingly soft mane. She curled up and rested her head against her shoulder. She soon fell asleep as well.

Spitfire was woken up to a sound of whimpering. She blinked her eyes open and glance at the mare beside her.

The sleeping bat pony had tears running down her face and was shivering like crazy. "Mother, don't leave me." Blue whimpered in her sleep.

Instinctively, she wrapped her wing and foreleg around her comfortingly and nuzzled her cheek. She continued to rub her cheek and began to lick away her tears.

"Don't worry Blue, I got you." She sooth, whispering in her ear. Blue finally stop shaking and slowly open her eyes.

She looked up and spotted Spitfire looking back at her with a sympathetic smile. "You were dreaming about your mother, didn't you?" Blue nodded as more tears began to fall.

"We were in a middle of a field hugging each other, when she walked away and disappeared in a cloud of smoke."

She buried her face into Spitfire's shoulder and sobbed. "I miss her so much, Spitfire." The golden pegasus nuzzled her cheek and whispered. "I know you do."

She raised her hoof and stroke her mane soothingly. She lifted her face with her hoof. She stared deep into the pretty electric blue eyes. "Because I felt that way about my father."

"How did you make it go away." She cried. Spitfire licked her tears away soothingly. "I didn't. You just have to remember the good things your mother did and live with that." She pressed her forehead against hers. "And you got friends to help with that too."

That seems to calm her down. She smiled and gave Spitfire a hug. Spitfire hugged back, running her hoof through her mane. They eventually broke away from the hug.

They both stand up and notice the sun starting to set. Blue sat down and watched it with awe.

"Wow," she breathed. "I never notice how beautiful sunsets look from up here." Spitfire turn to her crush with a smile. "Yeah, it's sure is." She agreed, watching her longingly.

Blue stare back at her. "And it made you glow. You look so pretty in it." That line made Spitfire blush hard.

"T..thanks!" She stutter, looking away. She was starting to sweat furiously. When she look back, Blue was starting to stand up. "I have to get back home." She look back at her.

"Do you want anything to eat? I could fix us something at my place." Spitfire's stomach growled. She nodded. "Lead the way."

They both took off and landed in front of the museum. Spitfire look at it curiously. "You live in a museum?" Blue nodded as they head up the stairs.

"Sort of, I live in the basement. I work here." She open the door. She turn back to look at the pegasus. "I have to warn you. Miss Era turns the light off this time of the night and it gets pretty dark in here. Just follow me."

She close the door back as Spitfire step inside. She look around. "You're right, it is dark in here."

She turn and notice Blue's blue wings are glowing. "Since when did your wings glow in the dark?" She asked in shock.

"I was born this way. My foal doctor said it's a recessive trait and only one in a hundred batponies have it" she explained as she led the way through the museum. "But it only works in really dark places."

Spitfire watch her in wonder as she followed her. This mare was really something else. She brushed close to the glowing mare. "One in a hundred, huh? Do you know someone else with it?"

Blue nodded. "The mayor of my hometown." Spitfire smiled. "I guess that makes you rare. And that's a good thing." Blue nodded as she paused in front of a door.

"I guess it is," she said as she opened the door and turned on the light. She frowned as she added. "But my glowing wings also makes me a target if I want to hide from my father."

She led the way down the short flight of stairs. "Sit down on one of the bean bags. I'll get dinner ready."

Spitfire glanced around the basement/apartment. It was small but comfy. "You seem to like Daring Do a lot." Blue nodded as she took out ingredients for a salad. "She's my idol."

She glanced back at Spitfire as she sat down on a bean bag. "Did you read any?" The Wonderbolt shook her head. "Not much of a reader. But I heard plenty from Rainbow Dash."

Blue walked up and gave Spitfire her salad, as she went back for hers. She sniffed at the salad curiously. It look like a normal salad with strawberries added to it.

She took a mouthful, surprised by the fresh sweet salad. She swallowed and glanced at Blue beside her. "This salad is good." Blue glanced back at her, smiling gratefully. "Thanks."

They were standing outside of the museum. "Thanks for dinner." Spitfire said. "It's no problem. And thanks for stopping by." Blue smiled. Spitfire smiled back and embraced her.

She smiled harder when she was hugged back. They let go of each other. "I'll probably see you tomorrow." She said. Blue smiled and kissed her on the cheek. "OK, see you then." She turned and walk back to the door.

Spitfire watch her go frozen in place, her face burning furiously in the place where the kiss was. She slowly raised her hoof and touch her check. She smiled, eyeing the retreating black flank as it disappears into the building.

She then turn, whistling a happy tune as she made her way to the hotel.

Blue woke up at midnight and walked up to the window. She smiled as she opened it and hopped out. She closed it back and decide to began her usual midnight stroll.

She lift her wings and take off. She flew for a few moments until she decided to land by Twilight's castle. She turn around spotting something in the corner of eye.

Standing a couple of feet from her was a silver fox cub; like the one from her dream. It was standing there sniffing around at the ground. Blue blinked and shook her head thinking she was dreaming again.

The cub was still there. Slowly as she could, she crept up to it noticing it was a female.

She was a beautiful cub; silver, with black feet, black tipped ears and a fluffy white tipped tail. Blue also notice that she was almost as thin as a twig. The fox looked up and stared at her with blue eyes. With a yelp of fright, she ran off.

"Wait! Come back! I'm not gonna hurt you!" She ran after her, not noticing the castle light went on. The castle's balcony door open and Twilight Sparkle walked out.

She looked down, spotting Blue chasing something silver. With wide eyes, the Alicorn took off from the balcony and landed on the ground below. "Blue, where are you going?" She chased after the bat pony.

Meanwhile, Blue rushed past Sugarcube Corner. The light went on and Pinkie popped her head out the window. She notice Twilight rushing by. "Ooh! A midnight chasing game!" She shouted in delight.

Twilight was still on her trail when she notice Pinkie running beside her.

"Pinkie, I need you to get Applejack and Rarity." She ordered. "Okie Dokie, Loki!" She shouted as she heads towards Sweet Apple Acres.

The purple alicorn then look on in horror, as Blue went into the Everfree Forest. She paused at the entrance near Fluttershy's cottage to catch her breath.

"Twilight, care to tell us why your up in a middle of midnight?" She look around and spotted Rainbow Dash followed by Fluttershy.

She pointed to the forest. "I heard shouting, so I look out and spotted Blue chasing something. Then she went into the Everfree Forest."

The two pegasi look into the forest with shock expressions. They heard footsteps and turned around. They spotted the other three heading straight towards them.

Applejack had an annoyed look in her eyes. "Care to explain why I have to wake up this time of night?" Rainbow Dash explained to the rest.

They slowly walked up towards the entrance, hesatatied for a few minutes. "Isn't it too late at night to go exploring that place?" A voice behind them made them jump.

They turn around and spotted Spitfire landed behind them. She raised an eyebrow. "And it's far too dangerous."

Rainbow Dash walked up to her. "We're not trying to explore it. Twilight told us that Blue went in there a few minutes ago. And She thinks she was chasing something."

Panic lit up in her orange eyes. She pushed past them and rushed right into the forest. The others look on with shock. "What in tarnation was that all about?" Applejack asked in disbelief.

Rarity spoke up. "I believe Spitfire may have feelings for Blue, dear." They all turn to the white mare. "What, isn't that not hard to believe? I think it started when Blue saved her life. And this evening I spotted them on a cloud, taking a nap with each other."

Spitfire was halfway through the forest looking for a sign where her dear friend had went. She looked around and spotted something on some brambles.

As she walk towards it she spotted tufts of black fur sticking from the thorns. She gasped and started to head towards that direction.

She ducked under the brush and notice tiny paw prints in the dirt. She also spotted hooftracks and knows she's going in the right direction.

She spotted more brambles up ahead and spotted more tufts of black fur. She also spotted tufts of Blue's mane. She also spotted blood.

Starting to worry, she shouted. "Blue! Blue where are you?!" She flapped her wings and took off, flying through the trees. Up ahead she spotted something glowing. It was Blue, and Rainbow was right; she was chasing something and was heading toward a cave.

She landed on the ground and chased after her. Blue slipped into the cave. Spitfire didn't hesitate as she followed behind. The entrance of the cave led underground.

It went dark for a few moments until she spotted light up ahead.

The cavern was huge, covered in large white crystals. The walls were covered in drawings. Spitfire payed no mind to that as she spotted her friend staring at some of them.

She tackle her in a crushing hug. "Spitfire?" The fiery mare hold her tight and buried her face into her mane. "Don't ever do that again." She her heart was pounding in her chest and she was sure Blue felt it. "I thought something bad happened to you." She look back at her and notice a scratch on her check. It was fresh and still bleeding.

"And your bleeding!" She added in shock. She touched it with her hoof, which made Blue wince. "I'm fine. I'm sorry that I worried you." She stared at something behind her.

"I was following her." Spitfire followed her gaze and notice a fox cub. She was huddled against the wall and stared up at the two ponies in fear.

They turn around and notice the rest of Blue's friends entering, with Twilight in the lead. They looked around the cave in awe. Rarity walked up to one of the crystals.

"Absolutely, marvelous!" She gasped, her tiredness suddenly forgotten. "Oh, glowy!" Pinkie exclaimed as she hopped up to a bigger crystal. She giggled when it made it look like her face gotten bigger.

Twilight walked up to Blue, still looking at the pictures. "How did you found this place?" She asked in awe. Blue and Spitfire stepped aside to reveal the fox. "She did."

Fluttershy gasped. "A silver fox!" She walked up and pick up the shivering cub. "And the poor thing is skin and bones." Applejack smiled at it. "Now I know what happened to my chicken eggs."

Blue looked around. "But I can't find her mother anywhere." She walked up and nuzzled the fox. "I'll take care of her." The fox cub stop shivering and look up at her with hope.

She hopped from Fluttershy's grasp and rubbed against Blue's legs. The other ponies awed. "What are you going to name her?" Fluttershy asked. Blue already picked out the perfect name.

She glanced down at the fox cub who stared up at her. "Her name is Wisp."
