Sunset Shimmer, along with her friends and princesses, were looking for Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker to use the Elements of Harmony. Celestia wondered if Sunset Shimmer met Princess Luna who rules this timeline, but in the form of Nightmare Moon, did she say anything else to Sunset? “Sunset.”
Sunset Shimmer looked at Celestia. “Yes, princess Celestia?”
“When you came across Nightmare Moon, did she say anything more than that Luna and I weren’t on that timeline?” asked Celestia.
“Yes Princess Celestia, she offered me to join her,” said Sunset Shimmer.
Celestia was worried. “And you joined her?”
“No. Even if I am faithful to the princess, I would never betray Equestria,” said Sunset Shimmer.
Luna smiled. “What you did was a heroic act, Sunset Shimmer.”
Sunset Shimmer smiled. “Thank you, princess.”
“Well, well. If you’re not Princess Luna’s student.” Sunset Shimmer looked up at the sky and saw Daybreaker descending to the ground before she approached Sunset Shimmer. “Sunset Shimmer, why are you loyal to Princess Luna?”
“I am loyal to the princess because she’s a benevolent ruler,” said Sunset Shimmer.
“Foal. Don’t you realize your princess has succumbed to darkness? It intends to cause eternal night so your night will be enjoyed forever,” said Daybreaker.
Sunset Shimmer was confused by the last sentence. “Why? Does she feel unappreciated?”
Daybreaker was annoyed. “Not appreciated? Please! She is loved even more by the subjects! It makes me jealous of that.”
“But do you know why she became Nightmare Moon, Daybreaker?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
“Yes. As Luna is the princess of the night, she also has to control the darkness within her,” said Daybreaker.
Sunset Shimmer went into possible panic. “Wait. So does that mean the princess had a dark side from the start?”
Daybreaker rolled her eyes. “Yes. But she could control that. But after these copies of me and my sister arrived, Luna thought Sunset Shimmer would prefer her fake version to the real one.” Celestia and Luna felt guilty. It was their fault that Princess Luna from this timeline had become Nightmare Moon.
“But what about you, Daybreaker?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
Daybreaker blew out a breath. Her expression changed to possible sadness. “I tried to talk to her. But she was so scared, so sad, and so angry that she succumbed to her dark side. I tried to talk to her, even though the one who was there now was Nightmare Moon, but she just started attacking me with her magic. So, I had to fight my own sister, as much as I didn’t want to. I had tried everything to get Nightmare Moon back to Luna: I talked, I fought, but I always lost.”
“And what did you do?”
“I became Daybreaker in the hope of beating Nightmare Moon and that she would return to being Luna,” said Daybreaker.
“But I don’t understand one thing. Because when you arrived in Ponyville, you laughed like crazy and said you returned? Did Nightmare Moon put you under a spell?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
“Well, even in that form, Nightmare Moon was stronger than me, and she put a spell on me to act like when I was in the past.”
Sunset Shimmer was gaping at what Daybreaker said. Did your mentor do this to Celestia? Luna couldn’t have done it for want. Luna must be under a spell.
“But was Luna really doing this? Wasn’t she under a spell?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
Daybreaker was sulking at what Sunset Shimmer said. “Yes, she really did it and wasn’t on a spell, Luna did it all on her own.”
Sunset Shimmer started to cry. Sunset Shimmer’s friends hugged Sunset as Daybreaker watched the scene with a neutral face. Luna and Celestia were still shocked that Daybreaker said that because they were to blame for all this, the princesses felt that they should leave here as soon as possible, but they knew they shouldn’t because they need to apologize to the princess Luna for making her feel that way.
Suddenly, the day turned to night. Sunset Shimmer looked up at the sky and noticed a figure approaching. Daybreaker stepped in front of the nine mares and charged her magic. Nightmare Moon landed on the floor. “I see that the spell I put on you is no longer effective.”
“Sister, you will not hurt our subjects,” said Daybreaker. “Stop now or I will be forced to fight you!”
“Sister, do you know what I control? The moon and the stars. They are twice as strong as your stupid sun,” said Nightmare Moon.
Daybreaker was annoyed. “Don’t talk about my sun like that!”
“Oh. Were you angry? Just because ponies prefer me more than you do?”
Daybreaker tried to not look upset. “Please, princess. Stop it,” Daybreaker looked at Sunset Shimmer and saw that the yellow unicorn was talking to Nightmare Moon.
“Why should I stop?” Nightmare Moon was annoyed. “You replaced me with this fake copy of mine!”
“No, princess. I didn’t know she was another one of you from an alternate timeline, I thought it was you,” said Sunset Shimmer, hoping that Nightmare Moon would be Luna again. “Please, come back.”
“Sunset! Use the Elements on me. Now!” Nightmare Moon said in Luna’s voice. The slits became pupils
“In position, girls.” Sunset Shimmer’s friends approached.
The necklaces and crown jewels began to shine. Sunset Shimmer’s eyes flashed white and a rainbow went to Nightmare Moon. “Aaaaahhhhhh!!!!”
Sunset Shimmer and her friends landed on the floor and saw Luna on the floor with their eyes closed. Sunset Shimmer went to Luna. “Princess!”
Luna opened her eyes and saw Sunset Shimmer. “Sunset Shimmer… my dear student… you didn’t replace me…” Luna fell asleep.
“Princess! Princess! Please wake up!” shouted Sunset Shimmer in panic.
“Don’t worry, Sunset.” Sunset Shimmer looked back and saw Celestia. “Luna is only weak because of the darkness that has taken her. When my sister wakes up, she’ll be better.”
Sunset Shimmer wiped away any tears that were coming out of her eyes. “Really, Princess Celestia? So that means she doesn’t… ”
Celestia smiled. “Yes, Sunset Shimmer. She’s still alive.”Celestia caught Luna with her magic.
Sunset Shimmer approached Celestia. “Princess Celestia, would you like to stay in the library with me until Princess Luna wakes up?”
“Until it’s a good idea, Sunset Shimmer,” said Celestia.
Chrysalis approached Sunset Shimmer. “Sunset, can I stay with you until Luna wakes up?”
“Of course, Chrysalis. Just don’t forget about the Sunburst. He might be worried if you don’t return today,” said Sunset Shimmer.
“I know, Sunset.”
At Golden Oka’s Tree Library, Luna slept in Sunset Shimmer’s bed. Beside the bed were Celestia, Garble, Chrysalis, Sunset Shimmer, Sugarcoat, Lemon Zest, Sweet Sour, Indigo Zap, Sunny Flare and the two princesses of the original timeline: Celestia and Luna. Celestia and Luna still felt guilty about coming, but they thought it was time to say goodbye and leave.
“Guys,” began Celestia. The other ponies looked at Celestia and Luna. “We are so sorry that this happened.”
Sunset Shimmer approached Celestia. “Don’t blame yourself Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. I had no way of knowing that this would happen.”
“But we were pretending to be the princesses so we could befriend you,” said Luna, guiltily.
“Luna, Celestia, don’t blame yourself. Do you remember what I said to you before?” a silence occurred. “I said I can see your side. You both thought I’d be mad and kick you out of the library for thinking you were Changelings.”
“So, won’t you stop being our friend?”
“No, Luna. But if you get back here, just let me know so that I don’t confuse you with the princesses here,” replied Sunset Shimmer. “Do you promise?”
“We promise, Sunset,” said Luna and Celestia in unison.
“So, are you two leaving now?” asked Sunset Shimmer.
Celestia and Luna looked at each other. Luna thought. Maybe Celestia can do Luna’s royal duties, but until Luna remembered what Celestia told her: “We were made to rule together, little sister.” Luna couldn’t stop ruling Equestria and couldn’t put her royal duties aside. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t visit this timeline from time to time to spend time with Sunset Shimmer.
“Okay sister, let’s go,” said Luna.
Sunset Shimmer went to Luna. “Bye, princess.”
“Bye, princesses,” said Sunset Shimmer’s friends in unison.
“Bye copies of me and my sister,” said Celestia.
“Goodbye,” said Chrysalis.
Celestia picked up the scroll with the time travel spell made a hole appear in the ceiling, a wind came up and sucked Celestia and Luna. The two passed through the same timelines until they reached the castle of Twilight Sparkle. Celestia and Luna glanced around before leaving the map and searching for Twilight Sparkle.
