Spike's Destiny in the Pokémon World

by Darth Severus

The Beginning of a New Life

It was a pleasant day. A young human could feel a pleasant breeze passing him by. He thought to himself, "Where am I? There's a pleasant breeze... Is this a dream? I hear a voice. I wonder who it is?"

The voice, which was a girl's asked, "Hey... are you ok? Please wake up, hey, wake up."

The human opened his eyes slowly and thought to himself, "Where am I?"

The voice, which belonged to an Aron smiled, "Phew, you're awake! You were passed out here. My name's Suzie, and this is Scar! So, who are you? I've never seen you around here before."

The Nidoran next to her twitched his ears and said, "I don't think we should get involved."

The human told them, "I'm a human, what does it look like?"

Suzie tilted her head in confusion, "You say you're a human? But you look like a normal Totodile in every way."

The human looked at himself in the nearby lake, to see his reflection was that of a Totodile! He thought to himself, "It's true! I've been turned into a Totodile! But why? I don't remember anything..."

Suzie continued to look confused and asked, "You're kind of weird... Your name? What's your name?"

Scar mumbled to himself, "Weird is an understatement Suzie."

The human turned to Suzie and said, "Oh, my name is Spike."

Suzie giggled lightly, "What a funny name, kind of cute though!"

Spike blushed in embarrassment, before hearing somebody shouting for help. A Butterfree flew over and Spike asked, "What's wrong miss?"

The Butterfree, who was teary-eyed said, "It's my baby! He's fallen into a fissure!"

Spike, Suzie, and Scar all looked shocked, and said in union, "What!?"

The Butterfree nodded, "It opened up out of nowhere, and he's too young to crawl out on his own! When I tried to go get my baby, I was attacked by wild Pokémon!"

"You were attacked!? By other Pokémon!?" Suzie was shocked that other Pokémon would attack a mother who was trying to get her child back.

Butterfree continued to sob, "I think they're confused and scared, I understand, but I can't just leave my baby boy in there, and I'm not strong enough to fight! What'll happen to my baby boy!?"

Spike nodded, "I'll go in and find him!"

Suzie agreed, "Me too, I'll help! Let's go Spike!" before the two ran in to help the trapped child.

Scar ran after them saying, "Hey, wait up!"

As they ran into the fissure, Spike couldn't help but think why he was turned into a Totodile, but that didn't matter right now, there was a child trapped in here, scared and alone, he had to help get him out.

Scar looked around the fissure and said, "Watch out, this is one of those Mystery Dungeons. In a Mystery Dungeon, the layout of the dungeon changes every time you enter, no two explorations will ever be the same."

Suzie nodded, "That's more reason to get Caterpie out of here. Spike, why don't you take point?"

Spike nodded back saying, "If that's ok with you, sure." before heading deeper into the dungeon. Soon after entering, they encountered an angry Pidgey, who was obviously still startled by the fissure opening up.

Scar yelled to Spike, "Don't just stand there, use a move!"

Spike growled, "I told you, I'm a human! How am I supposed to know what moves I can use!?"

Suzie yelled at both of them, "Stop fighting, we're here to save Caterpie! Spike, try using Ice Fang, it's super effective against Flying types like Pidgey!"

Spike focused on using Ice Fang before his teeth felt super cold and he jumped at Pidgey, biting it with his frozen fangs. As the Pidgey fainted, the team moved on through the dungeon.

In the depths of the fissure, a Caterpie was huddled up crying, "I'm so scared! Mommy... Where's mommy? I want my mommy!" before seeing Spike, Suzie, and Scar coming toward him and he curled up even more yelling, "N-No! Don't hurt me! Mommy!"

Spike said, "Calm down little guy, we're here to get you out. Your mother's worried sick, and we couldn't just sit and do nothing while a little kid was in danger."

Caterpie sniffled and followed them out of the dungeon, and when they got out, he crawled to Butterfree as fast as he could, "Mommy! It was so scary down there!"

Butterfree cuddled her son, comforting him from the scary experience. She turned to Spike and his friends and said, "Thank you so much for saving my baby. It's not much, but please take this as a token of my gratitude." before handing Spike an Oran Berry, a Pecha Berry, a Rawst Berry, and a Reviver Seed.

Caterpie's eyes had finally stopped watering, and now they were glowing with admiration, "You guys are so cool! I want to be like you when I grow up!"

Scar smiled, "That's a good goal little guy, but for now, just focus on having fun."

Butterfree smiled, "Before I go, may I have your names? I think the three of you would make a fine Rescue Team, so I want to send a letter of recommendation to the Interplanetary Rescue Union."

Scar was shocked when Butterfree told them she was sending a letter of recommendation to the Interplanetary Rescue Union. Being an apprentice at the Rescue Union marked you as true rescuers. Of course, it wasn't required to be an apprentice to form a rescue team, but people hold apprentices of the union in high regard. He answered her saying, "I'm Scar, this is Spike and Suzie."

Butterfree smiled, "Thank you. If I ever need help, I'll know just who to call." before flying off slowly while her son crawled after her.

Spike asked, "Well, it's nice that we saved a scared child, but what's this Interplanetary Rescue Union she was talking about?"

Suzie explained, "This fissure isn't the first natural disaster we've had, in fact, five different worlds, Terra, Green Gate, Ignis, Triton, and Tatooine, they've all been experiencing natural disasters. The Interplanetary Rescue Union was formed to help Pokémon stay safe in the wake of these disasters, and being an apprentice of the Union signifies you as a true Rescue Team!"

Scar nodded, "I think Butterfree is right, we make a good team, so how about it?"

Suzie smiled, "I'm in! What about you Spike?"

Spike thought to himself for a moment, "It's not like I have any memories or ideas on how to get back to being a human. Besides, helping Pokémon in need could be fun." Before nodding saying, "I'm in!"

Scar smiled, but then realized, "We don't even have a team name yet, what do we call ourselves?"

Suzie couldn't come up with an idea and asked Spike, "Do you have any ideas?"

Spike thought for a moment and said, "How about Team Go-Getters?"

Scar thought it over and said, "It's got a nice ring to it. I'm fine with that name."

Suzie nodded her head in agreement, "Me too, from now on, we're Team Go-Getters!"

The three of them put their hands together and cheered, "1, 2, 3, Go-Getters, let's go get 'em!"

After that, Suzie and Scar led Spike to a little house that was vacant. Suzie explained, "We bought this place so we could use it as a base when we were old enough to form a Rescue Team. Since Scar and I have homes, but you don't Spike, you can crash here if you'd like."

Spike smiled, "Thanks you guys. It's getting late, so I'm going to hit the hay for now."

Scar nodded, stretching himself out as he yawned, "Yeah, me too. I'll see you guys in the morning." before heading off

As Suzie left, she yelled to Spike, "Get a good night's sleep Spike, if the Union gets Butterfree's letter, we'll have to go to the union first thing in the morning!"

Spike laid down and fell asleep, but he couldn't stop wondering about why and how he became a Totodile. Either way, he'd made some great friends in Suzie and Scar, and was ready to start tomorrow as a member of a Pokémon Rescue Team.
