Chapter 1: A Magical Mishap
It was pretty much a standard day in Ponyville, a light bustle of ponies walking around and chatting with each other, some of them eating an early lunch at Sugarcube Corner. However, inside the Castle of Friendship, Twilight Sparkle was doing some research on new spells to try out. She had recently become the Princess of Friendship, specifically two days ago, where there was a ceremony for for her ascension. She couldn't become ruler of Equestria quite yet, so there was no rush for it.
Anyways, the purple Alicorn was reading a spell book, as she sometimes does, to see if there were any spells she might have missed. One page of this book had a very interesting one, where, if consent was given, the magic user would see into the mind of another pony. "Hmm... this is going to be very difficult to set up," she said to herself. "Thankfully, I have my friends to count on for this. The question, though, is who will be willing to do it?"
She looked up when she heard a knock on the door that led to the room she was currently inside of. "Come in," she said in a sing-song voice. Then the door opened to reveal Rainbow Dash, who had a slightly annoyed look on her face.
"What a surprise, the bookworm is reading books," the cyan Pegasus said with heavy sarcasm. "You've been in this room for an hour now, Egghead. What are you even reading?"
"I've been going back to some old books that I have to see if I missed any spells," Twilight explained to the Pegasus. "There's one spell that I'm especially curious about, which I'm reading up on right now, which allows me to see into the mind of another pony when given permission."
"And let me guess, you want somepony to help perform this spell with you?" Rainbow asked, a little concerned.
"You guessed correct. I know it seems rude to read somepony's mind, but it's interesting to see what others are thinking in certain situations."
Dash shrugged, deciding that it would be rude to not have it happen for her friend. "Alright, I guess I'll help."
"Thank you," Twilight smiled. "We'll begin the process shortly."
And with that, she left the room, leaving Rainbow behind, with the Pegasus chuckling. "Knowing her it'll take about an hour to be ready."
Sure enough, an hour later Twilight was ready to cast the spell on Rainbow at her castle. After a fit of laughter to where she said she called it, the cyan Pegasus stopped as best as she could and breathed slowly, mentally preparing herself to be read like a book. Twilight closed her eyes and lit her horn up slowly, the usual purple aura emitting from it. As this was the very first time she was using this spell, she had to be extra careful to make sure everything went according to plan. It took a rather long while for her horn to fully build up... and that was her first mistake of using this spell.
"How long are ya gonna take? I don't have all day!" Rainbow was becoming impatient, tapping a fore-hoof on the floor in annoyance.
"Almost... there..." Twilight replied, starting to strain a little bit and trying to speed up the process of the spell.
What they didn't know was there was a galloping Pinkie Pie heading straight to the castle, with some amazing news from Rarity. She burst through the door and shouted, "TWILIGHT! DASHIE! I'VE GOT AMAZING NEWS!"
That had startled Twilight, and sure enough, the spell had backfired, causing her to shoot it at herself, becoming electrocuted and knocked out. However that was not the end of it, as the energy from the spell shot up from the Alicorn and made holes on the ceiling and blitzed out of the castle, and out of the world.
"PINKIE PIE!" Rainbow shouted out of pure annoyance. "I had waited an hour to help Twilight with an experiment and you HAD to ruin it! You knew we needed privacy!"
Pinkie giggled and blushed in embarrassment. "Haha, sorry, Dashie."
Meanwhile, in Sonic's World
Sonic the Hedgehog had just finished saving his world from a group of Zeti known as the Deadly Six, as well as defeating Doctor Eggman when he arrived at the last minute to try and take him down. He, his best friend Miles "Tails" Prower, his friendly rival Knuckles the Echidna, and slightly(To put it mildly) obsessed fangirl Amy Rose, were relaxing under a tree for the rest of the day. Tails saw the handheld, that was used by Knuckles and Amy to communicate with him and Sonic when the latter two went to the Lost World, was frozen, and as a result broken, so he sat down to try and fix it.
"What's that?"
Tails looked at Knuckles, who was speaking and pointing to the sky. The four of them looked at the flashing light, making the yellow fox take out a pair of binoculars and take a closer look. "I don't know... it looks Lavender." he said to them.
It was rapidly fast approaching them, specifically heading for Tails. Seeing that, Sonic shouted, "LOOK OUT!" running to and pushing his best friend out of the way before the blast hit him. It sent him crashing to the tree and knocking him out, and the lavender aura that surrounded him for a brief moment went out of his body and back into space.
"SONIC!" Amy screamed in shock, rushing to check the blue blur's pulse. After seeing he had one, she immediately said, "We need to head to your place, Tails!"
Without another word, the trio took Sonic to Tails's workshop, hoping the blue Hedgehog would be okay.
The Mane Six and Princesses Celestia and Luna were in Twilight's Castle, very worried about their best friend and hoping that she could wake up from her bed. During that time, Rainbow Dash was trying to hold her rage in due to Pinkie Pie interrupting them earlier. Celestia checked Twilight's pulse for a bit before saying, "She is out cold. I'm hoping she'll be okay."
"What was going on with you and Twilight when she was knocked out?" Princess Luna asked Rainbow Dash, knowing that the cyan Pegasus was the one who witnessed it.
"Basically she was trying some spell... I don't remember what it was," Rainbow explained, "before Pinkie Pie barged in. We told her that we were busy, but of course she wouldn't listen."
"I DID listen!" Pinkie replied out of fear. "It's just that I was going to tell Twilight news about her sister-in-law, Princess cadence!"
"And it couldn't wait?!" Rainbow was close to bursting out in anger. "We... ugh, never mind."
Suddenly, the lavender blast that was from Twilight's horn crashed onto the Alicorn, making everyone jump, especially Fluttershy, who cowered behind Princess Luna. The magical energy sphere hit Twilight, and after a few seconds, they would hear her stirring.
"Wh...what happened?"
Everypony was confused. It sounded like Twilight, but something told them it wasn't the lavender Alicorn. The pony in Twilight's body slowly opened his eyes, and saw the group of ponies in front of him, looking confused. "Who are you all?" she asked. "Where's Tails, Knuckles and Amy?"
The ponies looked at each other, very confused. "Who are these ponies? They don't sound very pony-like to me." Rarity said to him.
"...Pony-like?" Sonic was confused as well, and it made him look at himself. What he saw was not a hand... but a hoof.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" he screamed at the top of his lungs. "WHO AM I?! WHAT THE HECK AM I?!"
Meanwhile, Tails, Knuckles and Amy were in the workshop, slowly observing Sonic. When he stirred, the gang ran in to see him. "SONIC!" Amy was very relieved, hugging him. "Thank goodness you're okay! I was so worried about you!"
The blue hedgehog looked rather confused at the pink hedgehog, saying, "Who's... Sonic?"
The three friends shared absolutely stunned looks, as Amy pulled away from him. "You don't... remember who you are?"
"What? I remember who I am, I'm..." having a sudden thought, Twilight looked at herself in a mirror, provided by Amy.
"No... nonononononono..." Twilight was having a panic attack. "This wasn't how the spell was supposed to happen. I wasn't supposed to swap bodies with someone!"
Tails, Knuckles, and Amy were really confused. "Spell?" they asked in unison.
