The New Beginning

Prologue

Dark.
Everything is dark.

WHUMP!

“Ouch!” yelped the dragon-duck, Yosh, as he smashed his beak upon a support column within Canterlot Castle.

TINK
KLACK-KLACK

“Eep!” he quacked as, in tending to his sore beak, he knocked his glasses off his face.

RUSTLE-CRINKLE

The diapered dragon-duck went down on all fours in search of his fallen glasses. He had recently lost all his physical eyesight and was still trying to learn to adapt to a world without vision.

Princess Cadence entered into the hall Yosh was in and couldn’t help but let out a slight chuckle at the sight before her.
“Yosh,” she said in a very motherly voice. “Can I help you with something?”

The green-and-white colored dragon-duck blushed as he realized his padded posterior was likely all Cadence could see given the direction of her voice and approaching hoof steps.

“Did you lose your glasses again?” she cooed while using her magic to subtly move the lost item towards Yosh’s hand. “They’re by your left hand.”

Yosh claimed his glasses, which he knew Cadence had moved towards him by the sound of her Unicorn horn igniting with magic, and quickly took to his feet. The sound of the thicker diapers he now wore since losing all his eyesight echoing through the hall with almost every move he made.
“Thanks, princess,” he thanked with a pout.

Cadence’s talent for understanding the feelings of others enhanced her already motherly approach to Yosh.
“I know it must be hard for you,” she stated softly while slowly putting a hoof on Yosh’s shoulder. “Losing all your eyesight so quickly is a terrible thing. However I know you will not allow yourself to be defined by it.”

Dawnbreak Horizon, the brown Unicorn prodigy who hatched Yosh for his entrance into Celestia’s School For Gifted Unicorns, had heard all the sounds coming from the hall and knew it to be his companion.
“Yosh!” he cried with concern. “Are you okay? Why didn’t you call for someone if you wanted to move about the castle?”

The dragon-duck only blushed as another embarrassment started to audibly pour into his diaper.

Princess Cadence knew Yosh was not in good shape and decided she needed to act to save him some dignity.
“I was with him, Dawnbreak,” she replied. “Yosh just wanted to try and see how much of the hall he could navigate by memory and had a little accident.”

The dragon-duck let out a little whimper as, to him, ‘accident’ referred to his wet diaper. This is not what Cadence had referred to in her statement. However he’d been quite upset at how a lot of effort to better control his weak bladder was lost after losing his eyesight.

“Oh,” replied Dawnbreak who, as he loved to do, wore a stylish hat to hide his Unicorn horn. “Keep up the good work, little buddy!”

KA-CLOP, KA-KA-CLOP

Tears formed in Yosh’s glazed over eyes as he thought on how everyone had been treating him like a toddler since having lost all his physical sight.

The pink Alicorn princess waited for Dawnbreak to head down the other hall before addressing the dragon-duck.
“It’s okay, Yosh,” she said while gently rubbing at one of the dragon-duck’s red head spikes. “How’s about we get you cleaned up and I’ll help you to where you want to go?”

Yosh found himself levitated upon Cadence’s back. His diaper wasn’t going to leak but he still could feel the padded protective garment mush against his body.

Cadence could tell that the young dragon-duck was not doing well in coming to terms with having so suddenly having lost the gift of sight. She knew that Princess Luna had started to work with him in his dreams on this matter but she felt there was a bit more than the living with blindness that was causing Yosh such emotional pain.
“No worries, Yosh,” she assured while using her wings to better shield him from curious eyes. “Everything is going to be okay.”

Twilight and Spike had come by to tuck Yosh into bed that night. He could no longer read and there had yet to be an alternative method to visual reading made available in Equestria. So, after having his diaper changed before bed, Spike and twilight read him a chapter from the latest Daring Do book before helping him to remain comfortable in his basinet-like bed.

Twilight had read up on how losing any of the five key senses would cause the mind to get weak from a lack of sensory input. Her solution to this was an enchanted music box along with Spike lighting a lavender scented candle.

“I wouldn’t mind having a pair of those footie pajamas,” stated Spike. “It’s like one big comfort blanket.”

Twilight laughed.
“We can look into making you a pair, Spike,” she replied. “However these are for Yosh so he can feel comfortable and touch is one of the senses I’ve been reading up on.”

Yosh said nothing as, for as comfortable as the sleeper was, it pushed his bulky diaper harder against his feathers and scales. This meant he not only had a visible diaper bulge around his waist but could also very quickly realize when he was unwillingly wetting himself.

“See, uh, talk to you tomorrow, Yosh,” stated Spike as his footsteps could be heard leaving the room.

“Sleep well,” Twilight added while using her magic to pull the covers over the dragon-duck and fluffing his pillow. “Sweet dreams.”

Yosh would’ve said something but the tears forming in his eyes over his current situation kept him from wanting to seem any more like an overgrown toddler.
