Chapter 17

Blaze flew into the clouds. He knew this is where Rainbow would be. She loved flying and she was definitely upset with Linus. He needed to tell her what happened. She would be very upset when she learned that Blaze took her spot. But he didn't want anything to happen to her. She was very important to her. Maybe we'll get some alone time now. He thought as he remembered their kiss. He really wanted to be with her. Especially since he might die tomorrow. "What they hay am I thinking? I can easily beat Linus." Blaze said to himself. But can I kill him? He shook his head. He didn't want to think about that now.

He found her on top of a cloud. She wasn't crying. She was just sulking. "Hey." He said as he landed next to her on the cloud.

"Hey..." She said.

"You ok?" He asked. He knew she wasn't.

"Blaze, why is he like that? Why is he such an accusationist?" She asked.

"I don't know. But I don't think accusationist is a word." He replied with a small smile. She returned it. "He's just extremely ticked that I called him out at the tent. He's not going to hurt you tomorrow." He said. "

Why do you say that?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "It's a fight to the death. One of us is going to die." She said sadly.

"Maybe. But I do know it's not going to be you." Blaze said.

"Blaze, he's twice my size and stronger than me. The chance's of my survival are slim." She said. She put her head down and stared at the cloud.

"Actually, your survival chance is 100%." He said as he kissed her forehead. She looked at him.

"I have decided to take your place in the fight to the death." Her mouth hung open.

"You did what?" She asked shocked.

"I told Linus that I would take your spot. He accepted. The rules of the fight state that one pony can take the spot of another as long as the opponent allows it." He said. She just sat there, staring at him.

"Why? Why did you take my spot?" She asked.

"I...I guess I just don't want to see you get hurt. You're too precious to me." Blaze said blushing. He never was good at the romance stuff. I probably just screwed myself over He thought to himself.

"Well, thank you. But next time, ask me first before you fight my fights." She said and kissed him. This time she held it there, and Blaze returned it.

She retreated from the kiss after that. "You know, I used to be very gung-ho about doing things myself. This war has changed me." She said.

"It's changed all of us. I used to be very quiet. I liked to hang out with Linus and play chess and I hated to lose. I never was able to handle a loss well. Even if I lost a game of tag! Now....I can lose battles and soldiers...and not seem to care." Blaze said , remembering all the ponies he's lost. "This war needs to end. I don't see how fighting within our ranks could make the war end sooner. I don't think I can kill him. I know I can't kill him. He's been my friend since we were foals. I know I can beat him in a fight. I'm the better hoof to hoof combat fighter, but he's more ruthless. He could easily kill me if he wanted to." He said slowly. "I hope I can talk some sense into him."

"Blaze, you are a very talented fighter. You proved that over and over again. We can talk to him when we get back to camp." Rainbow said.

"Well, we don't have to go now." He said. "It's still mid-afternoon. I think we have some time to spare." He said with a smile.

"Oh really? By doing what?" She said with a smile. Blaze leaned over and kissed her. She kissed him back as they held each other in their arms. They carressed each other's bodies and kept each other close, feeling each other's heart beats. After a few minutes of this, they stopped and looked at each other. "Well then, I guess that answers Linus' question about us." Rainbow said with a smile. She winked at him.

He laughed. "I guess it does." He said and kissed her again.
