Prologue

Once upon a time, before Equestria even existed, there existed a great many creatures with power untold. These creatures, despite having each other for company, soon grew bored and lonely, for despite how powerful they were, that power meant nothing when others were just as powerful. They could pull of a great many tricks, but the only ones to see them would be others that could off just as impressive tricks. It was then that a few of the creatures talked with each other to discuss what they should do about this problem. Soon one of them suggested creating more creatures like them, so they went to the one that represented creation, and asked for her help.

“But what am I to do?” She said, “All I can do is create an empty shell that would only sit there”

And so, they left filled with sorrow, so they left to the one that represented magic so that it could perform actions.

“But what am I to do?” She said, “They would perform actions, but they wouldn’t be real, they would just follow what was told of them to do.”

And so, they again left sorrowful, so again they left to the one that represented chaos, so that it could possess emotions.

“Well I suppose I could,” He said, briefly filling them with hope. “But they would still be empty husks, just forced to perform actions against their newfound will.”

And so, once again, they left, this time a little hopeful, so they went to the ones that represented life and death, the one that they really should have gone to first, to give them a soul, so that they could truly perform actions, and feel emotions, and they wouldn’t just be an empty husk.

“Of course we will!” Life exclaimed, ecstatic that she could finally perform what she was meant to do, “oh, I’ve been waiting for someone to ask me to do this for forever. I mean I would have just done it myself, but then what if the others disagreed, or maybe everyone was perfectly fine with only themselves, I didn’t just want to assume, because assuming is bad and you should never do that, but at the same time-”

“Ok, I'm just going to stop you right there,” Death said, seeming like he’s been used to this for a long time. “Yes, we will agree to do this, but on one condition.”

“What is it?” The group full of hopeful creatures said.

“Unless we have a very good reason to, we will do our best to stay out of their lives. Of course, there will be a few exceptions, but either way, no interfering with their lives, we don’t need them relying on us or trying to do anything bad to us.”

“Very well,” the one representing creation said. “Let us begin.”
