A Sunset Interlude

Before an old journal bearing a mark so similar to her own, Princess Celestia sat, quill poised loaded with gilderglitter ink. She had been sitting there for several minutes, staring at the last unfinished page, eyes rereading the darkened yellow, lightly reflective letters she had last written, and the crimson text with a golden glitter that caught the light. The ink was pretentious but they had picked them out of Celestia's stationary back in the early days. It was the memory of those early days that had the Princess of the Dawn staring at the inviting paper, and it was the memory of the last that stayed the words she wished to write.

Her eyes finally looked from the book to one of the reminders she kept in her room, a single photograph of an amber mare with an honest and excited smile. The picture of the mare -- filly really -- was one of the last to have blue eyes aglow with excitement and sheer simple joy that Celestia could find. It helped her steel her will, and a folded letter unfurled itself, and Celestia began to copy. Word for word, then drew a faint curved line and wrote.

Sunset,

I don't know if you've kept this journal. I don't know if you'll be the one to read this, but I hope you kept it for old time's sake. I was not able to send this letter in any other manner, and... after my poor decision in a heated moment, I was afraid to write my regrets, my thoughts, and my apologies here. Before courage fails me, I have copied that letter as written, and I pray it finds you well.

Please write back, Sunshine.

The letters burnt with golden light for half a moment before searing into a lightly reflective dark yellow, several shades darker than gold proper, and the same color as her previous missives. It took a great deal of self control to remain calm as she finished, and closed the journal, leaving it on the old stand that it had occupied since the last time it was used.

Celestia was gifted with a second chance with her sister, she had made a grudging friend of Discord of all beings, but she wanted another chance with another she had wronged. She wanted Anon to meet Sunset, to share those movie nights, and maybe to try again to teach Sunset what she had failed to express before, with the aid of one of the strangest, most frustrating friends the Mare of the Sun had made in... A very long time.

With these things on her mind, Celestia sat, waited, and watched the link to see if it would answer.
