Mother and Son

A New Way to Bond

Button Mash had always been into gaming and being with his friends. His mother, Cream Heart, had always been into exercising and being with her friends. Unfortunately, neither had really seen each other too often. They were so busy having fun with their respective friends that they rarely spent quality time with each other. But that would soon change when one of them got a new video game and the other one got a new exercise DVD.

It had been one week since the start of summer. Button Mash was ready to try out his new video game, “Warrior Quest”, while Cream Heart was going to start working out using her “Cat Stretch” workout DVD.

Button ran into his house and towards his mother.

“Hey Button,” Cream Heart said. “How was your day?”

“It was great, Mom,” Button Mash responded. “I just got a new video game and I was wondering if you wanted to play the game with me.”

“Well actually, I was going to do some exercising if that’s alright with you.”

Button Mash sighed.

“I understand,” he said. “Maybe in a little while?”

“Of course, dear,” his mother said.

“Okay, see ya!”

Cream Heart watched her son zip past her.

“Wait, don’t you—“ she began, but saw that Button Mash was already in his room with the door closed. She then sighed. “I guess I’ll be exercising alone then. Besides, I got an exercise DVD that he might have liked to try out.”

Cream Heart placed the DVD into the DVD player and the exercise session began.

Meanwhile, Button Mash placed his video game cartridge in the Neightendo 64. As he played the game, a thought struck him.

“Why does Mom never play games with me?” he asked himself.

At the same time, Cream Heart was doing several stretches.

“Why does Button never exercise with me?” she asked herself.

“I wish that there was a way that we can be together more often,” they said at the same time while doing their respective hobbies.

In Button Mash’s room, Button Mash was playing the game when all of a sudden, some strange character appeared in the game.

“Time to be together forever,” it told him.

All of sudden, Button Mash began to feel strange. He felt his ears itching.

“Hey,” he said to himself. “What’s going on? My ears hurt.”

Before long, his ears flattened and became more triangular, similar to that of a cat’s. Then his cheeks began to grow whiskers.

“Ow!” he yelped.

At the same time in the living room, Cream Heart saw the workout instructor acting a bit strange.

“Time to be together forever,” she told her.

Seconds afterwards, Cream Heart also began to feel strange. Her ears began to itch.

“Ow!” she yelped as whiskers began to grow on her cheeks. “What’s wrong with me?”

As Button Mash was growing fangs, he ran towards his mother.

“Mom!” he called out. “Something’s wrong with me! I was playing the new video game and then this happened when a character said ‘time to be together forever’.”

“You’re not alone,” she said as she grew fangs. “I was exercising when the instructor said ‘time to be together forever’.

Before long, their muzzles shrank and their noses became triangular and fused to their mouths.

“I’m turning into a cat!” Button shouted once he was able to speak again.

“We’re both becoming cats,” Cream Heart said.

Their hooves began to crack, grew pads, and split into four digits thus, became paws. Their four legs then snapped and reshaped, causing them to fall to the floor. As that happened, Cream Heart’s cutie mark vanished. Tears fell out of both of their eyes.

“I’m sorry that I haven’t been hanging out with you, Mom,” Button Mash cried.

“It’s okay, Button,” Cream Heart said. “I should be sorry for not hanging out with you too.”

The living room appeared to grow bigger, but they knew that that wasn’t the case. They were shrinking. Button Mash’s beanie fell off of his head and Cream Heart’s mane and tail bands fell off, but their manes and tails remained after shrinking. Within a few seconds, Cream Heart was the size of an adult cat while Button Mash was a tiny kitten.

“Now what do we do?” Button Mash asked. “We heard our game and exercise instructors say ‘forever’. I guess we’re stuck like this forever.”

“How about we spend some quality time together?” Cream Heart asked. “You’re always my sweetie. How about we just get some rest, then we can do something that cats like to do?”

“I guess,” Button Mash responded. “But what will we do afterwards?”

“Maybe hunt,” Cream Heart responded as she lay on the floor and curled up like a ball. “But right now, how about a nap? That transformation made me tired.”

“It did that to me too,” Button Mash said as he lay right next to his mother, who wrapped her foreleg on him. “But what about the house? Are we still going to live here? We don’t have an owner to take care of us.”

“I’m not sure,” Cream Heart answered. “Right now, we should sleep. Cats need more sleep, especially for kittens like you.”

“Okay, Mom,” Button Mash responded.

Before long, the two cats fell asleep. For a while, the two of them lived in their house and were able to cook their own food, even though they were much smaller. However, when Button Mash tried to play video games, he was having trouble doing so because he now had paws and was too small to use the controller. At times, ponies tried to called them on the telephone but when either Button or his mother tried answering, all the callers got was meowing. Despite this, Button and Cream could still communicate with each other. Unfortunately after two weeks, the IRS came and found no living pony living in the house. Upon seeing what was going on, Button Mash and Cream Heart ran out of the house to avoid being taken to the pound and as a result, lived on the streets of Ponyville. Many ponies wondered what had happened to them. Several tried writing letters to them, including Button Mash’s teacher, Miss Cheerilee, but got no response. Eventually, after three more weeks had passed, ponies began accepting that they had left Ponyville. Button Mash and Cream Heart never changed back into ponies but over time, they didn’t want to. They were happy together. The two of them spent most of the time either hunting mice or sleeping in the streets. Life was a bit harder for them, but they didn’t care. All they cared about was that they were together as mother and son.
