That Odd Stallion

Chapter Three

“Alright Whooves, all you got to do now is go and ask Derpy on the date.”

“Yes, I know. But, what if she doesn’t accept? What if she slams the door in my face? What if-”

“Whooves, I’m sure she’ll forgive you. Derpy isn’t one to hold grudges, or to hate a pony for more then a few days.” Rainbow said comfortingly.

Doctor Whooves looked at the front door of Derpy’s home. He was more then nervous about asking her on the date. Especially since he had wings, what would she possibly think of them?

“Alright, Rainbow Dash…I just wish to thank you for this spectacular idea before you go.” Doctor Whooves said with a small smile.

“No problem, I kind of owed Derpy one so…why not help her awesome colt friend. Anyway, good luck Whooves.”

Rainbow gave a quick salute to the Doctor before she leapt off into the sky. Doctor Whooves watched her fly off until she was out of sight. He turned his eyes to the door and slowly approached it, his semi permanent wings fluttering. Doctor Whooves gulped, and knocked on the door.

A small unicorn opened the door, Whooves presumed it was Derpy’s daughter.

“Hello, Mister!” The small unicorn chirped.

“Ah, Hello. Your mother wouldn’t happen to be home would she?”

“Yeah, she’s home…wait, are you Doctor Whooves?”

“Indeed, I-”

“Dinky! I told you not to answer the door, you could get pony napped!”

Doctor Whooves glanced at the door as Derpy came out from the house and looked at him with shock. She motioned Dinky to go back inside, and the unicorn agreed without too much pressure. Derpy looked at him, and didn’t say anything, expecting him to speak first.

“Derpy, I’m dreadfully sorry about cancelling our date with out telling you before hoof. I-”

Derpy cut him off, “It’s alright Doc. I shouldn’t have gotten so angry, your forgiven.” Doctor Whooves smiled warmly. That was easier then I thought, Rainbow Dash certainly was right.

“Also, I thought we could go on a date to make up for it. Go somewhere special, somewhere I’ve heard you really like.” Derpy looked at him, and smiled.

“What did you have in mind?” The Doctor chuckled.

“It’s a surprise, and the only way to find out is to come with me.” Derpy looked inside the house and back at the Doctor.

“Hold on, I’ll be right back. Wait right there!”

Doctor Whooves nodded and watched the grey pegasus trot back inside her house. He waited for a good five minutes and soon Derpy came back out, closing the door.

“You have pretty good timing Doc, it must’ve been a coincidence that I had a friend over. You know, to watch Dinky.” Derpy said as she brushed up Doctor Whooves side, when she stopped.

Derpy moved away from his side and Doctor Whooves made a small grin. Derpy examined his side and noticed a wing, and gasped.

“Doctor, where did you get those wings?” Derpy stuttered.

“Well, a certain unicorn gave me them and, also the ability to walk on clouds.”

“Why…why would you get wings. I like you for who you are! You don’t need wings to impress me.” Derpy said saddened, thinking that Whooves didn’t think she appreciated him for who he truly was.

“Nonsense, Derpy. These wings only last for forty-eight hours. I just wanted to make this date special, by taking you for a flight and dinner on a cloud.” Doctor Whooves said, followed by a kiss on Derpy's cheek.

Derpy didn’t say anything, she couldn’t think of anything to say. He must really like me! Wow, a date in the sky…my absolute favourite place in all of Equestria? Derpy looked at the Doctor and couldn’t help but made a teary eyed smile.

“Come, Derpy. Come and fly with me.” Doctor Whooves said quietly, while pulling Derpy into the sky.

Doctor Whooves and Derpy were soon airborne and both began their date in the sky. Whooves tried his best to keep up with Derpy, being not as experienced with flying. They just flew through the sky, going no where in particular, just talking. Derpy asked the Doctor to tell her about his latest job, and Doctor Whooves did just that.

Derpy listened contently, with full wonder. She loved his stories, they were so…unusual. Like the first date, she found something about the Doctor that she couldn’t imagine living without. Maybe it was his charm, his good looks, his unusual yet spectacular life, or the fact that he had already so far went so far, just to impress Derpy and to make her happy.

Derpy glided closer to the Doctor and brushed up against him while they were flying, he was so warm even though they were high up in the sky. The frigid temperatures that flying supplied would always be a default to Derpy, but with Whooves… he made it all too perfect.

Doctor Whooves finished his story and after a good amount of time flying, he began to lead Derpy to where they would be having dinner. It wasn’t too far of a distance to the cloud, and on arrival through the gentle breeze that lifted them, they spotted a cloud that had plates, cups, and everything.

The cloud was a light purple, and when Derpy and Whooves rested their hoofs on it, it was so soft, neither of them could find words to describe it. They both sat down on the cloud and began to eat. They didn’t have anything fancy, just some hay fries and a salad.

Derpy didn’t really touch her food, considering she had already eat dinner at home. She eat a little so it would seem that she was hungry and try not to upset the Doctor. While she picked at her food, they continued talking about their week had been.

“So, Dinky got in trouble in school the other day. She got into some shenanigans with the so called Cutie Mark Crusaders , something about them getting their cutie marks.”

“What did they do this time?” The Doctor shook his head and chuckled. “They tried to be animal care takers. Dinky said it was going fine until they brought a bunch of animals into the school yard and, well some other students freaked out.”

The Doctor began laughing as he pictured the scene is his mind. “That seems pretty hilarious but of course, I wouldn’t be too peachy if I was the teacher.”

“I agree, but she didn’t have to give them detention for a whole week. That’s seems a bit of pushing it…don’t you think?” Doctor Whooves shrugged while he took a chomp out of his sandwich.

Derpy looked at the Doctor and smiled, as he returned the glance. She looked over to his wings and noticed something odd. Why are his wings all blurry? Derpy took another look and squinted her eyes, it must just be my eye sight she thought.

“Derpy, are you alright?” The Doctor asked.

“Oh, yeah I’m fine. I was just looking at your wings.” Derpy responded when she moved her eyes from the Doctors wings.

“Ah, well I-” The Doctor was cute off as he vanished.

“Doc? Where did you go?!” Where Doctor Whooves was sitting was now a big hole, Derpy rushed up and looked into it and saw him falling. She heard him screaming and immediately began to plummet after him.

Derpy stretched out her wings and dove down as fast as she could make herself go. The distance between her and Doctor Whooves was closing, but they were coming closer to the ground. Derpy flapped her wings and got a little burst of speed and soon her hoof touched the Doctors coat, but both ponies were suddenly engulfed with water.

Derpy’s couldn’t see anything as she began to sink into the body of water, until she saw a brown blur grab her and pull her upwards. She wasn’t unconscious, but Derpy never was a good swimmer. She found herself laying on a patch of grass with Doctor Whooves sitting over her, checking to see if she was alright. Derpy shook the water out of her ears and coughed a few times before sitting upright.

“Are you alight Derpy?” The Doctor asked as he rubbed her back.

“I’m alright…are you alright? How did you get out of the water so quickly?” Derpy asked trying to get the water out of her ears.

“Well, since you grabbed me a few moments before we fell into the water…my fall was lightened and I didn’t dive into the water like you did. So, I didn’t go down as further as you and when I noticed you were under the water, I dove down to get you before you drowned.”

“Good thing you were there, I probably would’ve drowned. I’ve never been a good swimmer.”

“Ah, but Derpy…if it wasn’t for you I could’ve broke some of my bones if you hadn’t lightened my impact into the water.” Derpy blushed as Doctor gave her a hug. But, how did he fall though?

“How did you fall though, I thought you had a spell that aloud you to walk on clouds and also you wings, why did they disappear so soon?” The Doctor looked at his sides and realized that she was right, he didn’t even notice.

“I guess the spell wore off early, maybe the spell went wrong and lasted for less time.”

“And, your not bothered by that? I mean you could’ve…died Doctor.” Derpy whispered.

“Well, maybe. But I’m sure Mrs. Sparkle didn’t mean for the spell to go wrong like that.” Derpy’s gasped.

“Do you mean, Twilight Sparkle? Rainbow Dash’s friend that lives in the library?”

“Well, yes. Why do you ask?” Doctor asked confused, do they know each other perhaps?

“Nothing, just her name isn’t Mrs . Sparkle. She isn’t married, she is in a relationship though.” Derpy giggled.

“Oh, I see. So, if you don’t mind asking…who is the lucky stallion?” Doctor Whooves chuckled. Not surprised she’s in a relationship, she is quite beautiful.

“Twilight’s dating Pinkie Pie, you know the hyper earth pony that throws a party like more then once a week?” Doctor Whooves gasped. “She’s into mares?”

Derpy laughed and told her about how they met and how Rainbow Dash had told her about it on one of their get togethers. The Doctor thought the story was adorable, but his favourite part was in the end when everything worked out. The two continued talking until the sun set and Doctor Whooves walked Derpy back to her home, and said good bye.

~~~~~~
The next day, Doctor Whooves made his way to the tree that had been sitting under the previous day. He sat down and began to wait. He was early, but he preferred being early over late any day. After a little while, Rainbow Dash landed on the ground beside him.
“Hey Whooves, how did everything go yesterday with Derpy?”
“It went a little unexpected, but it was still great.” Rainbow looked at him, and raised a eye brow.
“Aren’t you going to tell me what happened? You can leave out some details…”
“Oh, well I asked her on the date and she said yes…we went for a fly together and just chatted and such, then we landed on the cloud that you left for us. Then you’ll never believe what happened next.” The Doctor said dramatically.
“What, what happened?” Rainbow asked excitedly.
“My wings, and the spell to allow me to walk on clouds vanished and I plummeted down to the ground and Derpy went after me, we both fell into the pond. Derpy almost drowned, but I saved her. Then we just talked for a bit, and I brought her home.”
Rainbow looked at him blankly, Wow…that seems pretty awesome actually.
“So, Derpy wasn’t mad about anything? She was completely cool with it?”
“Indeed, but overall I would say it was a pretty good date. Probably not as good as the first date, but I’d say it was good.” Doctor Whooves smiled.
“Good, I would say it sounded pretty awesome! I’ve never had a date like that…” Rainbow looked at her drawn watch on her hoof. “Look at the time Whooves, I should be going. But, if you need any help you know where to find me!”
Doctor Whooves was going to say something, but Rainbow flew away before he could. I guess Rainbow Dash is right, it was a pretty awesome date. Doctor Whooves stood up from the ground to head back to the Tardis for the remainder of the day, with out any worries. Nothing to fear now, this relationship is as they say…in the bag.
