Prologue

I should probably start with an introduction, shouldn't I?

Ok, my name is Lugh. It's not the name I was born with, but I've been called Lugh for so long it might as well be. Normally, stories start with something happy, but this is sadly not the case with me. My story starts with my death.

You see, a long long time ago, in the year 2100, I had just turned 98 years old, an impressive accomplishment even for the future. I had gone to see my doctor for my checkup, just like I did every year. Unfortunately, that's when I got the bad news.

I was slowly dying.

Soon after receiving this news, I had a brilliant Idea. I called up and old friend of mine who specialized in neuro-technology and asked him for help.

What was my idea? I was going to upload my mind to my personal data server at my house.

The process of uploading brains to computers was first developed in 2065, but it was quickly decided that It was too dangerous to release to the public. The risks of losing memories or altering personalities were too much they said, but I decided that it was worth the risk if it meant that my knowledge would be safe forever. My friend was one of the scientists that worked on the original project back then, so I knew I was In good hands.

I took nearly 2 years for me to gather all of the necessary technology to complete the procedure, and during that time my health had begun declining at a constant rate. My family was worried during my 100th birthday, saying that I could pass away any day now. That's when I knew that we had to do the procedure as soon as possible.

To tell you the truth, I don't remember much about the procedure itself. What I do remember though is seeing glimpses of the otherworld from Celtic Druidism while my brain was being transferred.

The next thing I remember, I woke up Inside my house's data server. Once my friend confirmed the process was complete, he ran tests for the next hour to make sure everything was transferred correctly. The upload had worked perfectly, nothing was left behind. After that, we discussed what to do next, and we both agreed that it would be best to keep my existence a secret to all but my family.

After that, life went on as normally as it could. Of course, I didn't need to eat, drink, or breath anymore, but I became dependent on electricity to make sure I kept going. Because everyone knows what happens to a computer when it suddenly looses power. As the years passed by, technology got better and better, so I started adding that new technology to my house.

However, in 2200, Nuclear war broke out, wiping out most of human life on the planet. After which, the radiation caused by the hydrogen bombs finished off the humans while at the same time mutating all of the animals, giving them higher levels of intelligence over the course of hundreds of thousands of years. Some species even developed language and society.

Meanwhile, plant life on earth began to grow out of control without people to cut them back. A forest grew around where my house was, but with a few alterations, I would be able to stay active for millions of years. After 500 thousand years, I was starting to get bored, and lonely. But one faithful day, all of that would change.
