Episode 2: Home is Where the Heart is

"It's done. . . It's finally done!" Nightfall Silver said with a relieved smile as he pushed his chair from his work desk, and held up a small, compact device that had a projector lens on top of it. "It took a while, but I finally managed to get it done! Now all that's left is to figure out how to present it to Twilight."

Speaking of the Princess of Friendship, she'd just entered the doors of her new castle. Normally, Twilight would have been eager to get home early. Then again, she had lost the place that she'd called home for years in the battle against Tirek. And even though she had gained a new dwelling in the castle that had manifested after unlocking the Rainbow Power, it didn't quite feel like it was her home.

"Maybe it was just a place, but so much happened there." Twilight said with a sigh. She knew that she wasn't the best when it came to hiding stuff. If she was to be completely honest with herself, Twilight knew that she had been avoiding her castle lately. Almost as if she'd do anything to get as far away from it as possible for as long as she could. "And now, all that remains of Golden Oaks Library is a charred stump and some debris."

Meanwhile, Nightfall had noticed Twilight come inside. He noticed the sad look on her face all too well. Despite the time he'd spent in his workshop, Nightfall was very much a part of the world around him. From time to time, he'd take a break and just go outside to grab a snack and enjoy some fresh air. But the most frequent activity he performed as observing Twilight. It was plain enough for anyone to see that he had an obvious attraction to the young goddess.

It was true that they had some differences, as Nightfall always favored technology and Twilight's interested was rooted in magic. But considering magic and technology were so closely intertwined in this world, such a difference between them was negligible. In truth, they had far more in common. Both of them were avid readers, the two of them always seeking how to improve their technology or magic respectively. And like Twilight, Nightfall had a great love of his friends. While it was true that he hadn't been a member of the Elements of Heroism very long, he'd grown very close to the team of heroes. Probably because all of them were actually huge nerds like him. However, the matter of his phone call took priority over his brief reflection.

"And that's why I'm calling you." Nightfall said as he slipped out of Twilight's view and hearing. "A lot of you guys have experience dating girls and going steady with them, so you're the best people I can ask about this. I want to give Twilight something special to remember her old home."

"So that's why you dialed me up." Inferno Flare said from the other end of the line. "Well, it sounds to me like you're trying to ask her out on a first date. Looks like combat training isn't the only thing the rest of us guys are going to have to teach you, Night. But honestly? You're over-complicating things. You already know what to do."

"I do?" Nightfall asked with a puzzled look on his face. "What do you mean?"

"You know Twilight's interests." Inferno answered. "Her likes and dislikes. From there, you can easily figure out where to take her or what you want to do with her."

". . . Huh." Nightfall said in realization. "Welp. I know what I'm doing now. Thanks for the advice."

"Thank yourself." Inferno said as he hung up.

"Hey, Twilight?" Nightfall asked as he re-entered Twilight's field of vision. "Would you like to head to the Castalot Library? I've got my suit repaired, and my new pieces of equipment are mostly done. I-If you don't have anything better to do that is!"

"O-oh! No, I don't have any plans!" Twilight answered with a slight blush. as she tried to maintain a calm facade. "Sure! We can go right now!"

"G-Great!" Nightfall stuttered as he broke into a relieved smile. "In fact, we can test out one of the new pieces of equipment I developed. Follow me to the garage." Nightfall led Twilight to the castle's garage, and proudly presented his latest invention. It was a sleek, silver, hi-tech motorcycle with a slight eastern-style dragon motif (think Cyber Dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh! made into a motorcycle). "Well?"

"It's beautiful. . . " Twilight said in awe. "You know, somehow I figured you were working on something like this. It never takes you too long to repair your suit. Just what other surprises did you whip up in your workshop?"

"If the events of that village are any indication, you'll be seeing them in action soon enough." Nightfall answered with a smile. "Now come on, and grab a seat behind me."

"Right." Twilight said with a nod as she mounted the bike after Nightfall had. "You do know I could have just teleported us to Castalot or flew us there, right?"

"Yeah." Nightfall nodded. "But isn't this more fun?"

"Depends." Twilight said as she wrapped her arms around Nightfall's waist. "Is this going to be a dull ride?"

"Heh heh!" Nightfall chuckled as he put his keys into the ignition, and revved up the bike! His thumb hovering over a button labeled "boost". "Hold on tight!" Nightfall put the pedal to the metal, and hit the boost button! The motorcycle whirring to life and taking off like a rocket! Where it would have taken an hour or two to reach Castalot by train, Nightfall's bike reached the city in a matter of minutes. "You okay back there?"

"Wow. . . " Twilight said shakily as she dismounted from the bike. "Next time, I'm taking you as a passenger when I go flying. One good turn deserves another."

"O-kay. . . " Nightfall gulped nervously. From what he remembered, Twilight's flying was still a little rocky at times. "Anyway, just let me get the bike back home." Nightfall whipped out a flip-phone from his pocket, opened it up, and punched in three buttons.

"RETURN" A voice called out from the phone. And the bike responded to the command by revving up, and driving back to Twilight's castle.

"Shall we, your highness?" Nightfall asked as he offered his hand to Twilight.

"It would be my pleasure." Twilight smirked as she gave her hand to Nightfall. The two of them entered the library, and found their own little private corner to read in.

"Hey, Nightfall." Twilight whispered as she turned a page of her book. "This is a date, right?"

"Do. . . you not want it to be one?" Nightfall whispered nervously.

"No." Twilight answered. "It's just, I didn't expect anyone to be interested in me anytime."

"Why not?" Nightfall asked. "You're smart, royalty, and you're pretty cute." Nightfall blushed red as soon as he'd said that. "I-I mean-!"

"Oh?" Twilight asked with a smile. "Do you not find me attractive Sir Silver?"

"Y-Yes." Nightfall gulped. "Ever since I first saw you. Your eyes, no pun intended, have a lovely sparkle in them whenever you're happy. It's pretty magical, and really beautiful. Plus, you definitely give a hot librarian vibe."

"Looks like your heart's an open book." Twilight replied as she bookmarked her page and smiled sweetly. Approaching Nightfall as she set her book aside. "You do look pretty dashing in that lab coat of yours. But there's more to this little outing, isn't there?"

"Y-Yeah." Nightfall said shyly. "I noticed that you always seemed to feel less at home in the castle. I can't claim to know how much it hurts to lose a place that you called home. The painful truth of the situation is that we can't rebuild the library you called home. But, they say that nothing is truly gone as long as you remember it."

"What are you getting at?" Twilight asked. Curious as to what Nightfall had in store for her.

"It might not be as grand as a statue of a fallen hero, but I think it's more than enough to help you look back fondly." Nightfall said as he pulled out the device he'd been working on from his pocket, and pushed a button located on it. A holographic image of the Golden Oaks Library flickered to life. "They say home is where the heart is. Maybe this can help you put your heart into your new castle."

"You know Nightfall? I was attracted to you too when I first saw you." Twilight confessed as she gazed at the hologram that was displayed. "But it wasn't because of your face. You went through a rough childhood while you were growing up. But despite that, you still pushed forward with a bright outlook towards the future. Your heart is one of the strongest I've ever seen. It's no surprise that someone like you is the Element of Heart. Because you managed to steal mine."

"W-Would you like mine to be yours?" Nightfall asked with a blush.

"Sssshhh~!" Twilight said as she put a finger to Nightfall's lips. "This is a library. No talking~." And she silenced him with a kiss. Though the couple were silent as their kiss broke, they didn't need to say a thing in order to communicate as Twilight curled up against Nightfall. A wordless request that Nightfall granted without any hesitation. The two of them feeling at home in each other's arms. In each other's hearts.
