//------------------------------// // Baby All My Life I Will Be Driving Home To You // Story: Home from Work // by CapNTilfy //------------------------------// Sunset Shimmer heaved a sigh as she got into her car. Work at Sushi World had been nothing short of hell in a handbasket, and she just wanted to go home... She took her phone out of her pocket and dialed her girlfriend. Now Calling: Rarity The phone rang for a moment, then Rarity picked up. "Hello, my love," The fashionista purred. "Hey, hon," Sunset said with all the energy and enthusiasm of a sleep-deprived college student mere moments before a test. "Oh, dear... Was it another rough day?" Sunset scoffed as she put a hand to her forehead. "Rough to the point that I'd rather not talk about it while driving..." "I understand," Rarity said sympathetically. "I just wanted to check in with you. Gonna hang up because I'll need to focus on the road." "I'll be waiting," Rarity said softly. Sunset smiled warmly, then sighed again. "Oh. One final thing." "Name it." "...Bring out the wine." Rarity stayed silent for a moment, then nodded. "Understood." "Thanks hon. Love you." "I love you too, Sunset." Sunset hung up. ---------------------------------------------- Back at home, Rarity began to fret. Whenever Sunset Shimmer wanted wine, it meant that the day had been far more than just rough. The poor woman had been overworked as of late, and it seemed to have finally taken its toll on her. The fashionista took heart, however, in the fact that she could help lighten the load weighing on her girlfriend. Simply by being there for her. After all, they had been through so much together... ---------------------------------------------- Rarity recalled the dreadful Spring Fling debacle, in which Sunset Shimmer sabotaged her efforts to make the school a more bright and vibrant place. Oooh, she had hardly even been so upset with someone! Her memories then went to the fateful day when everything changed: The day Twilight Sparkle, a princess from another reality, arrived and set things right between the fashionista and her friends. On the evening of that year's Fall Formal, Sunset had given her a sincere apology, which Rarity accepted. The two became friends, and over time they learned they had a great deal in common. Their passion for life. Their love of aesthetics. Both were supportive people. Both were great friends... Everything changed for Sunset Shimmer and Rarity yet again when they spent an afternoon together at the fashionista's, bouncing ideas off of each other. The two sat down on her bed after another productive exchange. "Rarity," Sunset said. "You're such an amazing woman, you know that?" Rarity giggled. "I do." "W-We've been friends for quite a while now, haven't we?" Sunset chided herself internally for the stutter and clenched a hand into a fist. Rarity would definitely sense something was amiss. "...Is everything all right, darling?" Dammit. Sunset sighed. She might as well spill her guts. With a deep breath and exhale, she decided to fess up. "Rarity," she said as she felt heat rise to her face. "You're one of the most wonderful women I know." The former bully glanced at her friend, looking for a reaction. When she saw none, she continued. "You can see the beauty in just about anything... and you helped me find the beauty in myself after that night at the Fall Formal." Rarity nodded. "I'm so, so grateful for that..." Sunset turned away from Rarity. "A-And lately, I've been noticing your beauty. M-More s-so than usual." She risked a glance, and saw her friend wide-eyed with a hand to her mouth. For several moments, an uncomfortable silence reigned until Rarity finally spoke. "Sunset Shimmer... Are you saying you're starting to develop feelings for me," the fashionista asked in surprise. Sunset turned away again. "Y-Yes," she said shakily as both her hands clenched into fists. Well, the cat was out of the bag now. All she could do now was hope... "Sunset," Rarity said softly. "I think you're an amazing woman too." Sunset gasped, then turned to see her friend blushing. "It takes a great deal of personal strength and integrity to go from where you were to where you are now," Rarity said as she scooted closer to Sunset. "Your tenacity and passion, the inspiration you've given me..." She smiled, then took the former bully by the hand, opened it... ...and laced their fingers together. It was now Sunset's turn to gasp. "After everything we've done, everything we've been through. We've learned so much about ourselves and each other. It was only recently that I came to realize..." Further heat rose to Sunset's face as she watched Rarity scoot even closer, until the fashionista reached her ear and whispered. "I love you." Rarity pulled away from Sunset's ear, then planted her lips on the rocker's. Sunset immediately opened her mouth, and their tongues wrestled, danced, and scraped each other. Rarity broke the kiss with a blush, only for her now-girlfriend to kiss her back. The fashionista ran a hand through the rocker's hair as the other caressed her cheek. Roughly a minute later, the kiss was broken and the two simply stared at each other with loving gazes. "I love you too," Sunset said. ---------------------------------------------- And the rest, as they say, Rarity thought happily as she finished getting things ready, was history. The fashionista smiled as she heard the door to the garage open, then close. She gasped as a bedraggled Sunset Shimmer rounded the corner. Her hair was a total mess and she looked positively exhausted! "I need wine, kisses, and cuddles from the most beautiful woman in the world," Sunset said wearily, then embraced Rarity with a happy sigh. Rarity ran a hand through Sunset's hair. "Oh, you poor, poor, thing," she cooed. "You've been working yourself to the bone!" She cupped her lover's chin. "I'd be more than happy to oblige with all three..." The fashionista pressed her lips against Sunset's and opened her mouth. Sunset sighed again into the kiss, tasting Rarity's tongue as she buried her hands in her girlfriend's hair. A faint scent of lavender perfume wafted in the air, further calming her. Rarity broke the kiss with a warm smile as she caressed Sunset's cheek. "There's more where that came from, just in case," she said with a wink, then took her girlfriend by the hand. The two arrived at the living room, and Sunset smiled at the sight. The living room had light blue walls with white accents. Lining the wall were pictures of the Sunset and Rarity on various dates, as well as a few group pictures of them with the rest of their friends. Oh, the memories those photos brought back! Also lining the walls were a couple of bookcases filled with books about aesthetics, art, and fashion. The living room was spacious, with a hardwood floor to avoid wine stains. Not that Rarity would want wine spilled on any sort of floor. Two light blue sofas sat next to each other, each with a needlessly huge amount of smaller pillows on them. A loveseat sat off in a corner, near a sliding-glass door that led outside to the patio and backyard. In front of one of the sofas was a glass coffee table, with a bottle of wine, two wine glasses and a box of tissues. Sunset turned to Rarity with a snicker. "Thanks hon, but I don't think the box of tissues will be necessary." Rarity smiled warmly. "One never knows, dearest. One never knows." Sunset simply shrugged, then walked into the living room with her girlfriend. As she neared the coffee table, she kept her focus almost exclusively on the bottle of wine. She eyed it as though it was an ancient, long-lost treasure. Something to be cherished. Revered. Worshiped. "I could chug this whole fucking thing and it still wouldn't be enough after the day I've had," Sunset said breathily as she sat on the couch, gesturing to the wine bottle. "Well don't hold back any longer, darling. You're here now, and I'm all ready to hear your tale of woe," Rarity said as she poured wine in each of their glasses. "Hold on," Sunset said, lifting her hand and curling all but her pointer finger as she grabbed her glass and downed it in one go. She threw her head back with a sigh. "Yeah, that's the shit right there..." Rarity quirked an eyebrow and folded her arms. "Oh, don't worry baby," Sunset said, noticing the fashionista's reaction. "I'll stop when I start to feel buzzed. Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye," she recited, while doing all the proper hand motions. Pinkie Pie would have been proud. Feeling reassured, Rarity sat down on the sofa next to Sunset. "Now then," she said as she leaned into her girlfriend. "Tell me everything..." ---------------------------------------------- Roughly half an hour and one wine bottle later, Sunset finished her story. Rarity simply stared on in shock with her hand to her mouth, stunned. "Yeah," Sunset said with a scoff. "Tell me about it." It took the fashionista a few moments to process all that she was told. Once finished, she lowered her hand. "Good lord..." She took Sunset by the hand and pulled her into a tight hug. "No wonder you were so out of sorts!" Rarity stroked her girlfriend's hair gently, eliciting a sigh. "I'd ask follow-up questions, but it would seem just talking about it has made you look even more worse for the wear!" Sunset broke the hug, then rested her head on Rarity's chest. "Yeah," she whispered. "So let's just leave it at that, okay?" Rarity looked down at Sunset and ran a hand through her hair. "Of course. I completely understand." "But you know what?" "Hm?" Sunset smiled, her eyes half-lidded. "I can think of something that'll make me feel better..." Rarity grinned mischievously. She knew all too well what her girlfriend was getting at, but she decided to play dumb. "Oh," she asked. "And what might that be?" Sunset planted her lips on Rarity's and buried her hands in her hair as she opened her mouth. The fashionista wrapped her arms around Sunset and gently stroked her back with a sigh of contentment. Their tongues danced, scraped and wrestled with each other until it was broken. "How about another," Rarity asked, then kissed Sunset again, giggling into her mouth as she caressed her cheek. She lowered her hand, tracing her girlfriend's neck, then shoulder blade, going lower... ...until Sunset gently held her hand and directed it upward as she broke the kiss. "Sorry hon, but I don't have the energy right now..." Rarity blinked, then smiled warmly. "I understand," she said with a nod. Sunset yawned loudly as she stretched. "Shit, I didn't think I was that tired." She leaned into Rarity and rested the back of her head on her chest. "Mind if I take a nap on you?" The fashionista shook her head. "Not at all." Sunset Shimmer closed her eyes as she gently stroked Rarity's thigh. "I love you." "I love you too," Rarity said, then kissed her girlfriend on the forehead. "Sleep well, my Shimmering Beauty." Sunset took the fashionista by the hand, then held it until she slowly drifted off to sleep. Rarity sighed happily as she watched the most beautiful person in the world gradually fall asleep in her arms. All was right with the world.
