Heir to the Throne

Prologue

Celestia ran to the castle of the two sisters, hoping that she was not too late.

As she was running, she was thinking about how it had come to this. She thought of Canterlot a couple of months ago.

Celestia was a white coat alicorn with a sun cutie mark. She had a pink, purple, aqua, blue, and green mane and tail which had an elegant flow.

The Princess of the Sun had always been adored by her subjects and failed to notice how all her subjects treated her sister.

The only time Celestia paid attention to her sister was at Twilight's coronation.

"This is the very first born alicorn," said the Princess of the Sun. "Who knows how everyone will take the knowledge that there are three alicorns to protect the land of Equestria."

"They will probably like that," said Luna. "But what use is a nation when its very citizens ignore some of its rulers?"

"Luna, l---"

Save it, Celestia! You know well that the ponies pay more attention to your day than my night. I mean, look at night court. No one ever comes! No one ever has a problem that concerns the night! They only care about your precious sun, don't they?"

"Luna, can we talk about it later? This is your daughter's coronation."

"Can we talk about it later?" Lune repeated angrily. "Later!? We never talk! You're too busy looking perfect for your subjects and pay hardly any attention to your actual family."

Celestia was sad thinking about what Luna had said that day. "She is right. I do pay more attention to my subjects than to my actual family. l have to make things right."

She entered the throne room and stopped when she saw her sister.

“Not another step.”

Her sister was a dark blue coat alicorn with a half moon cutie mark and a mane and tail that looked like the night sky itself.

“Luna, you must lower the moon. It is your duty.”

“Did you think I would do nothing while you ponies celebrated in your precious light? There are two princesses of Equestria and NEITHER WILL BE YOU!

Luna stomped the ground which cracked up to the window and shattered it. Her horn glowing a bright blue aura and the moon moved over the sun. A black magical ball surrounded Luna, transforming the Princess of the Night to Nightmare Moon, a black coat alicorn with razor sharp teeth lining her mouth, a gas-like dark blue mane and tail, and blue, dragon-like eyes.

“Luna?” Celestia said, a tear in her eye.

“Luna?! I am Nightmare Moon and I have one royal duty, AND THAT IS DESTROY YOU!

As she said this, she fired a beam of magical light. The Princess of the Sun quickly deflected the spell and sent it to the ceiling which made a new hole. Then Celestia flew through the hole.

“And where do you think you’re going!?”

The Princess of the Sun was caught off-guard. Nightmare Moon fired several beams of magic. Some hit, others missed. They flew through and over the castle of the two sisters, damaging one tower after another.

Then, Nightmare Moon got a lucky shot and hit the Princess of the Sun between her wings.

Celestia screamed, falling towards the castle. Then Nightmare Moon flew to the moon, laughing.

The Princess of the Sun got up and said, “I’m sorry, Luna, but you leave me no choice.”

And with a heavy heart, she went to the elements chamber and levitated six gems. Red, orange, green, blue, pink and purple. And with the power of harmony, Celestia flew up and started to charge the elements.

Nightmare Moon fired a beam of magic.

But Celestia’s elements fired a rainbow beam of harmony.

Nightmare Moon’s beam evaporated. She tried to flee the inevitable. The next thing she knew, she was in the moon.

The Princess of the Sun slowly glided down in the elements chamber.

“Celestia, what did you do…?“

The Princess of the Sun turned around and saw young Twilight, a purple alicorn filly with a starburst cutie mark and lavender coat, and with a dark purple mane and tail, which had a pink stripe. Twilight had anger in her eyes.

“Niece?” Celestia said with a sad tear.

The young alicorn said again, “Why did you take away the only mom I have ever had?“

Silence filled the room. Celestia spoke.

“I did it to save Equestria.”

Then Twilight broke down. A feeling of dread filled the chamber, but the dread feeling was coming from Twilight. Dark shadows poured out of her eyes and her form started to change, creating a large shadow mountain with two purple, staring eyes. But a bright light shown, and two magical beams, one orange and one white, circled the shadow mountain in a bright ball. Then it disappeared and what remained was a statue of Twilight with a shocked look on her face.

Celestia turned to see Star Swirl the Bearded, a gray stallion unicorn with a white and gray mane, tail, and beard; a blue robe; and a wizard hat with stars and moons. His cutie mark had four stars in a swirl.

Celestia also saw Clover the Clever, a butter yellow mare unicorn with a brown mane and tail. She also had a brown cloak. Her cutie mark was three four-leaf clovers.

Celestia stood up, walked to the two unicorns, and said with a worried look, “What happened to my sister and my niece...?” The two looked at the statue filly, then looked to the moon.

Clover spoke first. “You were sad when you used the elements, and they knew you didn’t want to kill her, so the elements did the next best thing. They banished her to the moon. But it won’t last forever. In ten thousand years, she’ll come back.”

Star Swirl spoke next. “As for the filly, she was turned into a statue thanks to Clover the Clever and me. We used a spell to stop her from killing you. But the spells burned away and we used a lot of our magic too. The spell was to be saved for another unicorn but he has yet to appear.”

Celestia asked, “Where did you come up with this complicated spell?”

“Well,” Star Swirl responded, ”I got the idea from you and Luna when you two used the elements on Discord, the Lord of Chaos.”

As they talked, far in the corner a small, a shadow with two green eyes stared at the statue of Twilight.
